The techs are phenomenal. They do an excellent job and are quite speedy when resolving issues. Both were able to explain the problem in simpler terms and how to fix it if it ever happened again. As for the actual service, it is terrible. There are daily outages or throttles of sorts. I pay $43 per month for a router and 12/1 mbps plan though most of the day I experience speeds averaging around 5 mbps. The building just went through an upgrade yet my speeds have gotten slower. There will be two or three hours blocks where the speeds scale back to less than 1 mbps and stay that way especially during peak hours. read more

My experience with this internet company was TERRIBLE and honestly traumatizing. I am no longer a customer. I posted a negative Yelp review because setting up service with them was awful and wasted so much of my time. I deleted the old review because they CANCELLED MY SERVICE BECAUSE OF NEGATIVE REVIEW, stopped responding to me, even though they were my only option at the time. Seriously the most messed up company and ethics in the world. They deserve an investigation into their practices. Do not even bother commenting on this review to tell your customers to not listen o me, unless it is to apologize for being so corrupt Your other reviews speak for themselves. For years my condo building had amazing RCN for TV and internet, but then some board got cheap and contracted with these bozos. I will give them credit for having very nice customer service (although never had billing arguments, just technical) but those kind people are probably trained on how to effectively soothe and b.s. (string along) upset customers. There are a handful of outages each year, but those I'll forgive them. What bothers me is paying $60+/month for 12Mbps which is already pretty lame, and consistently getting only 3Mbps download/1Mbps upload. Everytime I've called to complain they try to placate me. Sometimes they'll jiggle a tube and for a few hours I get 12Mbps, but then it's back to throttling so they can give another poor sap paying $100 his 100Mbps (prob 15Mbps). In short: pay for 12, get only 3. No resolution. read more

I have lived in my condo building for over 5 years. The internet and cable (DirecTV) are provided by HiPoint. Besides a few questions after moving in, there have not been many reasons to call customer service. When I have called, I usually speak with Reggie - He is still working at HiPoint 5 years later! Whether speaking with Reggie or another Tech, my questions and any issues have been quickly addressed and resolved. I find the employees to be polite, professional, knowledgeable and patient. Communication is great and any building issues have been quickly handled. Recently, the building contract was up for renewal. Living in Chicago for over 40 years and having experienced many other providers, I was vocally supportive of renewing with HiPoint, the building's eventual choice. Our new contract has substantially increased internet speeds (from 100 up/down to 500 up/down) and expanded the included DirecTV equipment and coverage. Knowing that my existing 'landline phone' wiring would prevent me from reaching the new internet speeds provided and that HiPoint would need to rewire some connections, I called and spoke with...Reggie. I decided to finally cancel my phone line. Reggie made an appointment for a tech to come by the next day. The tech was prompt and knowledgeable. He made the changes to the wiring and was able to increase my internet speeds immediately. Thank you Reggie and HiPoint! Leading up to these changes, HiPoint set up a few zoom calls for the residents. Omar and Jason were very generous with their time and expertise. The meeting I attended was relaxing and informative. Omar and Jason answered all questions and it was a great way to get to know the people behind the company. HiPoint's level of commitment, communication and customer service is rare and appreciated. RYAN RYAN RYAN LIKE SERIOUSLY WHY HADN'T THEY SENT HIM TO ME BEFORE??? My internet is NIGHT and DAY difference!!! I've been in this building going on 5 years and when we started WFH (Working From Home) in March 2020 my internet was so choppy and every time I called they'd just advise that I update my modem or some BS! And they normally sent some Big white guy who never even bothered to check what the issue was. I was so frustrated because my building is tied to Hi-POINT that I ended up getting a hotspot for video calls. But since Ryan left my place I haven't had to use my hot spot once and I've been in video meetings ALL DAY TODAY and not one hiccup! Next time I call hi-POINT I'm requesting only Ryan!! The struggles of the old HiPoint infrastructure have been removed since they have introduced fiber to the building. I am getting outrageous and excellent speeds - both upload and download are very competitive with some of the country's fastest speeds. All this for a reasonable price, as well. From what I gather, they have been updating many buildings around the city to fiber. Unlike other ISPs, they work with not just the new buildings, but also the old ones, where infrastructure needs to be updated. I think a lot of reviews here are probably reliant on older infrastructure prior to any fiber upgrade. One thing I also like over other ISPs is that they are a local outfit and not some corporation; you can personally reach out to support per email or phone and reach them directly, instead of being transferred here and there. read more

The Hipoint call center person insisted that I leave a Yelp review, so here goes: My partner and I have wasted enough time dealing with them, so I will be brief and just provide hard-learned recommendations if you have the misfortune of dealing with Hipoint: (1) Keep track of every single thing they say they will do and quadruple check what the tech actually does; (2) don't expect them to get the job done the first (or second) visit; and (3) be prepared for them to be "revisionist" in their call notes. They outright lied to us yesterday when we inquired about a costly error we discovered. Horrible customer service. They don't offer weekend appointments so even though my building had an outage (my unit, plus public areas) I went without service from Friday night until Monday night. And they could care less. The team answering the phone is helpful and does everything they can but if you have to escalate to the manager, he gets defensive of his product and does nothing. He stopped answering emails and kept claiming all was working, even though I had screen shots of speed tests proving it wasn't. I'll be petitioning my board to cancel this contract. read more

Moved in a few months back to a building with HiPOINT and I was a little fearful especially with a small company providing me internet. I work from home and internet is my means for my livelihood. I have come from buildings with Comcast and had RCN too so I was less than hopeful and extremely fearful. The property manager did reassure me, but, I felt like I was being sold a rotten apple. The week of the move in was perfect. The setup was easy the tech came out was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He actually gave my boyfriend and I tutorial on how to setup the internet ... lemon squeeezy. I was a little shocked. But, still a little hesitant. The following week I moved in they held a free training seminar which I attended on Streaming Services. After the seminar, Omar, the presenter, said that he would be able to have a technician visit and assist me with setting up my Smart TV and provide some assistance with my wifi. (I apparently needed a firmware upgrade... who knew!) I took a couple months to write this review because I could not believe the service and this company, I just have to pinch myself. The speeds are always whats advertised. As internet goes, I have had some issues but, without fail, the support team is too amazing and always cordial and helpful. Love these guys and HiPOINT. My next move will be sure to look for them as the internet provider for the building. In the interim I am loving it. Thanks for a refreshing experience. read more

HiPoint has been the internet service provider for my building for about 4 to 5 years. Originally they offered DSL with modems in-unit and the connection was not very good. I'd encounter frequent outages which seemed to always come around lunch time. These type of outages are a major pain when working from home regularly. Overall the support team is great. Typically you will get a local person to assist you with your needs. They have always been upfront about observed outages and provide reasonable time frames to get you back up and running. Support even goes the extra step to give you call when connectivity is back to normal. DSL is an old technology and they don't typically own the last mile of connectivity to customer. So you can bet there will be issues along the way. Recently the association decided to upgrade the building to ethernet. Each unit has a dedicated connection to a switch in the building and then out to the internets. Service has been awesome since the upgrade. The installation team suggested replacing my decrepit wireless router and speeds are night and day. We upgraded from 3/1 (download/upload) mbps to 50/50. No more lag while streaming video and no interruptions in services to date. The installation team provided great service as well. Pulled new cables within 30-45 minutes I was ready to go. They explained everything they were contracted to do and even removed there shoes to not track any dirt in. You don't often receive that type of courtesy. Let's just say they went the extra mile. HiPoint has upped there game recently and the service they provide has only gotten better. They even have a portal to manage the service. Even though I had no choice in the service provider I like to the idea of their smaller shop (in comparison to a Comcast and the like). If you want to complain about your service check your building infrastructure first. This will play a huge factor in the speeds you realize. If you have antiquated technology delivering your 1's and 0's I'd suggest starting with your building association. Have had this service for well over a year and would have to say, its decent. Teams are quick to response to email and phone (night or day). If you are capable of configuring your own network, you may avoid most installation fees. Example: I just started paying for a static IP and it would have been $50 for someone to update the WAN on my router. Took me 5 minutes and kept my $50. read more

I just wanted to write an updated review for Hi Point since the customer service I've received the past few years (since my last review) has been fantastic. Whenever I have problems with the connectivity, Hi Point has helped me to identify that its been my router or my ethernet cord. It very rarely is the Hi Point connection that needs to be refreshed. When I call for assistance someone is usually very quick to pick up the phone so I'm not placed on hold at all. They are also available 24/7 and have assisted me during the early morning hours and the very late hours of the day. Sometimes when the weather is bad and its storming outside the connection may cut out but I've found that it will usually come back up quickly. When they have to do repairs, they make sure to send an email out to residents in advance and schedule the repair to occur between 2-6am in the morning to cause the least amount of impact to users. I highly recommend Hi Point and am glad they have been servicing our building for years. read more

The upload and download speed are great but that's completely useless when the internet constantly goes out. He helped me troubleshoot many different possible problems with my wifi and was finally able to help me connect, all over the phone. My condominium association recently switched to HiPoint for cable and Internet services. I was initially apprehensive as I had never heard of this company. But my experience has been extremely positive. Both the technicians who came to my home to install the equipment, as well as the technicians I've spoken with on the phone, have been knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive. They arrive during the time period they say they're going to, so I don't waste an entire morning or afternoon waiting for someone to show up. Reshmi deserves a five star rating. She was relentless in resolving my DIRECTV issues associated with my move and was tenacious in making sure that I was able to receive my local channels after moving to a new city. Although DIRECTV support was unable to solve my problems, Reshmi stepped in, had numerous lengthy calls with different DIRECTV groups, and wouldn't stop until my issues were resolved. She was also quick to offer to help with any future issues that may pop up. Where DIRECTV support team was quick to say that the problems couldn't be resolved, Reshmi wouldn't quit until all issues were resolved. She did an outstanding job. read more

Terrible. Just terrible. The worst ISP I have had in Chicago thus far. Internet down? Don't expect to talk to somebody in the same day. Not once have I called these people and have been able to talk to somebody right away, I always have to wait 24+ hours to get a call back from these people. RIDICULOUS. And trust me you will be calling them a lot, seeing as though this is one of the most unstable ISP providers I have ever had to deal with. If you need stable internet service and a responsive customer support DO NOT give HiPoint your business. I had some trouble getting someone on the phone to discuss my painfully slow internet, but once I did, my appointment was promptly scheduled for the following day. Roosevelt -- the specialist who arrived to help me out -- expertly solved my issue. Calm in demeanor and knowledgeable, he methodically ran through all the potential causes for the slow down and tested each one until he located the issue. Our condo association's 4 buildings had our internet/cable technology upgraded not too long ago, so Hipoint technicians were in each building for a couple of days, as well as each individual unit. They did a great job of accommodating their customers as much as possible around our schedule, did great work and were all super friendly and informative. The specific technician that came to my unit, Roosevelt, did such a great job and was an incredibly kind and helpful person (not to mention he played with my dog for awhile and now my dog loves him more than me)! I know internet and cable service can be frustrating, and I'm sure we will continue to have outages and/or connection issues, b/c those things seem to happen with all companies from time to time. But Hipoint has done a great job of taking care of their customers, in my experience, and has a much more personal feel than large companies like RCN, DirectTV, etc. I'm a satisfied customer and recommend them for internet and cable. read more

Had some internet problems in our building recently. Fair enough they sent out an email the day after it was noted and fixed and admitted they have to work on their communication skills along with DR problems. Since then its gone downhill. I work from home part time so decided to pay a bit more for a faster line in order to do y work. No problem there, but when you have an agreement where you pay for something that is not being delivered that changes things a bit. For the past 3 weeks I have been struggling with this company to resolve problems with my slow and unstable internet connection. When I say slow though I mean 10% of what I should be getting and even then I am seeing unstable connections. 1) Had multiple calls with their "help line" with no solution in sight. Most of the people you deal with only know the basics so they go through it every time. Reset the port, reset your router, plug it into the laptop directly. Never varies and never solves the problem. 2) Do NOT believe them if they say they will phone you back. It will not happen as no one takes responsibility and the supervisor is always "busy". Think they have more than a little work to do on the communication skills front. 3) If you do push back and ask what is being done the second line of defense is to say it is being looked at by a senior technician. I suspect the mean geriatric senior more than experience senior as they have managed to mess it up more often than not and even after 3 weeks they still don't know what the problem is! 4) Eventually met with the technician for an onsite visit and it took us all of 5 mins to verify what I had told them multiple times that that the problem isn't on my network or devices but somewhere on their switch/network. The port is configured to allow 150mb/s according to the tech, but is only delivering 3mb/s currently. In the past it did achieve the 50mb/s speeds I pay for though. So in summary they are happy to take your money, have the communication skills of a plank and cannot seem to figure out what is wrong on their own network even if you tell them where to look. Stay away if you have a choice and if you don't then buckle up boys and girls it going to be rough ride. read more

Overpriced and terrible quality and customer service. I pay about 42 a month for what they say is 20 megs. In reality I average 13, plugged directly in to the router. Internet seems to go out pretty regularly in bursts. They don't answer the phone when you call and are constantly defensive about everything. I've never had a pleasant experience with this company at all. I will be reaching out to my board of directors to see if we can change. read more
