I am a current Board Member at the Park Millennium Condominium Association. We were HiPoint's first large building and we maintained service with them for five years. During this time period, HiPoint was professional and the Internet Service provided via DSL to the units on an opt-in basis (not bulk) was consistent and reliable. There was never a single building wide outage. HiPoint provisioned a Fiber Optic line to the building and then used DSL technology to deliver the service to each subscribed unit. In general, the only issues that arose were primarily failures in the DSL modems, and thus, would only affect a single unit until that modem was repaired or replaced. There were no major or constant issues with billing or anything else. If HiPoint makes an offer to your building and you are pleased with the terms offered, have no hesitation on the service they will provide. read more

Guy came out was super nice found out it was something with the router and fixed it. took about 10 minutes in all and he was very professional. I continue to be impressed. I've been in a building that HiPoint services for a year now. Service was acceptable, around 10mbps up and down for the first 3 months or so. A few drops around storms but nothing serious. Then, I started having trouble. Like, bad trouble. Like, less than 1mbps, can't load FB or Tumblr kind of slow. Definitely no working from home, streaming video or music, or hosting friends for that involved my Roku or my computer. There was a lot of back and forth with HiPoint, a lot of "fixing" and a lot of excellent customer service. In the end, I am living in an apartment that essentially has no internet and I have been for months. And months. And months. Every once in a rare while (read: at 10am on a Tuesday when I am at work) my upload/download speeds will approach what I was promised. But when I'm actually at home and want to watch Hulu or Netflix or read Tumblr? I have to use my phone. I am moving out of this building, and I am never, ever using their service again. Internet is kind of essential. I can't live without it, and apparently with HiPoint, I can't live with it. read more

Have had Hi-Point as ISP for about a year now and I am very happy with their service. We live in Downtown Chicago in an older building and the only options are Hi-Point and AT&T. While AT&T offers a lower rate they also deliver 1/3 the speed as Hi-Point and, from what I have been told, their customer service leaves something to be desired! On the other hand, my experience with Hi-Point has been stellar thus far. Because I'm in an older building with thick plaster walls and older wiring, I have had to talk to Hi-Point customer service a few times. I think because they are a smaller company (than say AT&T, Verizon, Dish, etc) they actually care about each customer - at least that has been my experience. Hold times are almost non-existent no matter when you call. Their reps are always very friendly and will work with you on the phone to diagnose your problem and help solve. There has been times they have had to troubleshoot and call us back - they have never missed a call. There has been a couple of occasions that a tech had to be sent to our home to help solve a problem. Both times the tech was there within 24 hours during the appointment window as agreed. The tech - RYAN - is fantastic! Both times he came out he has been friendly, conscientious and helpful in light of issues that I'm sure are more due to the facility and less about their (Hi-Point's) system. Each time he assisted in ensuring my entire network was set-up correctly. Overall, the Hi-Point service and team may be a little more expensive than the bigger providers and we're not rich but, I have to say I don't mind paying for good service! I had an issue with my satellite and HiPoint sent out Richard Rainey to help troubleshoot my problem. This is the first time I've needed HiPoint to come out for service and I have to say it's best experience I've had with a cable/satellite service call thus far. Richard arrived well within the allotted timeframe and was friendly and receptive. He also fixed my issue in five minutes flat. It was quite impressive. The overall experience was efficient and pleasant and a far departure from other companies I've dealt with in the past. I've had HiPoint for a few days now, and it is fantastic. Download speeds are greater than 20Mbps Upload speeds are greater than 60Mbps !!! For, what? $50 a month? AMAZING! Also, their customer service is the best I've ever dealt with. I waited about 4 seconds to be directly connected to a tech named Brett, who guided me through what I needed to know, and was extremely pleasant to deal with. I used to use Comcast, and I cannot say the same for them ..in any aspect of what I just said. HiPoint is the best! read more

I wanted to give these guys a chance, I really did. I'm a fan of small companies, and I root for locally run businesses. That being said, I believe that I have given them a multitude of opportunities to redeem themselves. Three frustrating months have passed and I feel the need to echo some of the other 1star reviews - to let people know what I've gone through with Hipoint. When my condo switched over to this provider a few months ago. I signed up for the "WOW" 40/10Mbps package, and at no point have I have ever gotten anything even close to those speeds. I have had numerous outages during that time and get half of their promised speeds even when plugged directly into their modem. (not the router's fault) All my testing returns the same low speeds regardless if I'm using a wireless or wired connection. Despite my calls and emails, I have not received an update on the ticket I filed with them regarding the slow speeds for an entire month. No trouble shooting, no service fee reimbursement, no contact of any nature except for a single invoice (they've charged my CC three times). If all you do is check your Facebook occasionally, and don't care if sometimes even that won't work, these guys might be OK for your needs. If you ever work from home, or rely on your connection for ANY reason and want always on, high speed service, with responsive tech support, I would NOT go with Hipoint Inc. If you serve on a condo board and are considering this company because you can save a few bucks, save yourself the headaches and complaints and choose another company. Consider yourselves warned! As for me, I'm currently investigating what I need to do to switch back to my previous provider, and will be sending along my personal experiences to the BBB and the Illinois Attorney General. read more

A huge rip off. Call techs are often misinformed and are never on the same page with customers. It's a disaster. I don't understand why I am paying so much money for shoddy internet services and low speeds, coupled with awful customer service and low response times. I have been sent running on a whole goose chase in Chicago to figure out the cable and internet issues this company has blessed me with. I call and quite often get incredibly rude managers who don't address the problem at hand, by yet choose to speak over and patronize the customer if they don't have knowledge on the companies specific bill cycles. For the duration that I've had Hi Point internet service, which was sort of forced on me by my condo association, I've utterly hated it. The internet was extremely slow as well as completely going out whenever it was inconvenient for me. After calls which were limited to merely restating my router by unplugging it I became frustrated to the point of considering paying an additional just for normal service. However today was different... The technician (Ryan) was proactive as he informed me that he proceeded with action even prior to entering my condo. Not only did he stay for literally hours on end to ensure I was satisfied as well as the problem being rectified but he also went above & beyond the scope of the project. Last but certainly not least his communication skills were stellar as I know nothing about troubleshooting my internet problems he explained everything using layman terms & was very attentive. My condo building converted to Hipoint approximately 2 1/2 years ago, and I'm extremely disappointed with this company and will be switching providers soon. The following are a few things that have occurred: 1.) I signed up for the mid-range plan offering 10 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload. After a few months of service they switched me without my knowledge to the lowest plan 3 Mbps and 1 Mbps upload, but kept charging me for the faster plan. I noticed it was taking longer to download items, so I did a speed test and noticed the drop in service. When I called, they blamed it on a tech who "accidentally" switched me to the lower plan. The majority of people out there don't know how to check these sorts of things so it's very possible there might be others in the building who are paying more for a faster plan than what they are getting. Who knows how long I had been switched as there was no way for me prove it. They did not offer any sort of refund, only to change the settings so that I would get what I was paying for. 2.) On 2 other occasions over the next couple of years I did a speed test and noticed that I was only getting approx. 0.75 Mbps upload. I called and the support person argued that I was only supposed to get 1 Mbps upload. They changed it only after I disputed them and sent in a document showing I was supposed to get 2 Mbps upload. I still have yet to get 2 Mbps upload a single time as it is usually 15% less than promised. 3.) I've done speed tests numerous times and in the evenings when people are at home in my building using the internet I'm getting less than 1/2 of the download speed I'm supposed to be getting. I've gotten speed tests down as low as 3.66 Mbps when I'm supposed to be getting 10 Mbps!! The graph of my speed tests looks like a comb as this company apparently can't provide download speeds that are anywhere near constant. PLEASE NOTE: I've done speed tests with and without a router connected between my modem, with the exact same results each time. Every single time I call the tech wants me to bypass my router. I only purchased a WiFi router so I could stream netflix videos on my television -- which doesn't work due to inconsistent speeds (per my conversation with netflix). 4.) Numerous times the internet has gone out. I can understand the service going out completely a few times, as stuff like that happens. However, most of the time it goes out, it will only go out for a few secs or a minute, then pop back on which is really frustrating. When the internet is out intermittently like that people don't normally call support and only do so when it occurs pretty consistently. So if it's just you that calls about it, then they schedule a tech in a week or so, and you have to take off work to meet them...unless someone else actually calls in about it then they'll send someone to look at their equipment.. 5.) The only good thing I have to say is that when I call support I am generally able to get through pretty quickly. However from the minute the tech starts talking to me, they seem determined to somehow blame the problem on my own equipment. As if a 300 Mbps WiFi router and 300 Mbps bridge is somehow cutting my speed down to almost nothing, when I'm not even accessing the internet to do anything but speed tests. I have spent at least 10 hours of my own time doing things to ensure that it wasn't my equipment since using Hipoint, AND EVERY SINGLE TIME it has been a problem on their end. I now know 3 of their tech support guys on a first name basis if that gives you any idea of how often I've had to call them. After checking things out I found out that I can get a DSL plan that provides roughly the same speed as I'm actually getting for approx. 40% of the cost. I will be switching, and it appears that others within my building aren't happy at all either. If you are exploring them make them give you a technical definition of "download speed" and "upload speed" as it pertains to the speeds they promise. If they say it means touching that speed (even a fraction of second) then ask them how often that speed needs to be reached. Once every 15 seconds, once every few minutes? Once every hour? Once every day? Once a year? In my case, they advertised higher speeds and I chose them because of it, and I'm paying roughly $50/month for it (remember, it's a large condo association so that number should already be probably discounted from the typical consumer). However I'm just not getting the speeds I'm promised on a consistent basis, so I'm paying more for speeds I'm not even getting. read more

I have been a HiPoint customer since around 2008 and have had zero negative experiences with internet or customer service levels. Have any of these people attempted to contact AT&T, RCN or Comcast customer service? Have you ever spoke to ownership of any of the "other" companies listed above? It is strange to me that we live in this new digital world and expect no problems. Hey RJ W you also pay taxes that contribute the upkeep of our streets yet we still have potholes as a result of salting which is a result of mother nature (snow) do you blame the City of Chicago or Mother Nature for those issues? Has it occured to you to speak with your building management regarding the condition of the buidling owned wiring or the potential that remodeling by another unit owner although I am assuming you are not a property owner, is causing the signal to be diminished? Probably none of those options have been considered because that would require you to complete a bit of research not possible considering you have just had service for one week; it is easier to blame the internet provider. In any profession issues will arise and a thoughtful resolution must be sought out otherwise the issue will not truly be resoved. I appreciate the mindful professionalism of the HiPoint team in resolving issues that will arise in the field of technology. I am confident that you seem like the type of person that will have the initial set-up glitches resolved and never post an update once you too become a raving fan of HiPoint. read more

I have had nothing but headaches from HiPoint Internet Services. My condominium building also changed over to HiPoint for Phone/Internet in 2010, and originally they had what seemed like decent prices so we figured what the heck and gave them a try. Ever since we signed up we've had more downtime than we can imagine and it's never just for a few minutes. It usually goes down from sometime around 10am until 5pm when people begin coming home from work/school and begin complaining since it's the entire building's service that goes out, not just my unit. The shortest downtime I've experienced personally is 20 minutes, and the longest is over 10 hours. Not to mention if there is a storm going on you're guaranteed to lose the internet at some point, whether it's for 10 minutes or an hour it will go down. Yes we've called customer service, yes people have come out to our condo, and still we have (and have always had) major issues with downtime. The other issue I have with them is that along with this less than satisfactory service some time about a year ago they sent out an e-mail explaining that because not enough people in our building signed up for their phone/internet service our bill for both the internet and phone service was going to be increased. Why should I have to pay even more money than original just because they're not making as much money as they hoped from the building? Especially if their prices were the only thing originally drawing us to them. I would not waste my time with this and I can't wait to switch to a new provider. read more

Where do I even begin on the garbage fire of a company HiPOINT is. We rent an apartment in a building that has only this service and were worried about getting internet from a company we've literally never heard of, and we were right to worry. Our internet goes out for a certain amount of time almost every day, and my fiance is on the phone with Hipoint once a week. It is constantly dropping and until recently the DirecTV wasn't working at all (completely pixelated and frozen, even after complete restart). We had someone come out to look at the issue a few weeks ago. He actually informed us that in the server room our internet was mislabeled as another apartment, so every time we called they were resetting an internet that wasn't ours, and speed tests showed we were getting 20 or less mbps. After his visit, the internet and DirecTV were working, but we've since had continued issues with the internet. My partner has been trying (and failing) to work with their customer service and billing to at least try to get some sort of refund since we have been paying since last May for a service we weren't receiving! They seem to not be taking any sort of responsibility for the mislabeling and cross-talk that was happening with the internet in the server room, or the continued dropping. Billing keeps promising to get back to us and they don't. I know we aren't the only ones in the building having issues, the day they performed service our doorman mentioned to us that there were multiple workers there servicing multiple units. This has been an issue way before everyone has started working from home due to COVID-19, as we both work from home most days. In our last apartments we paid $39 a month for 155 mbps with RCN (who have IMPECCABLE customer service) and Hipoint is around the same price for 20 mbps, which is a little crazy in this day and age! This is the biggest issue and honestly the reason we won't continue living here, and will purchase a house or condo who has RCN, because having this kind of internet in 2020 is nothing short of unacceptable. read more
