Just another day without internet. Called support several times. My call is dropped before I even speak to a live representative. This is the norm when I experience outages or other problems. The year I've been here I've been connected to support three times, all on the same day. In which I was told the problem wasn't on their end. And that a technician could come out in two or three days to check. After a few more callbacks the support figures out something was wrong and I got internet back. This was the most positive interaction I've had with them. Hipoint is the only isp available in my building. And several times it has caused me to consider moving from a condo I otherwise love. Imagine your AC, water, electricity, or gas went out for a day. And the company you pay for the service ignored your calls? Their website or social media accounts dont a knowledge their is an outage or problem. And you have no idea when the service will be back? read more

Unfortunately, our building uses HiPoint. Service has gotten worse and worse since we've lived here. We kept the free internet that is included in our rent because it worked fine when we first moved in, only a bit slow when doing certain things (playing online games, streaming, etc). It slowed a few times and when I called to ask about it, it was back up to normal again within the hour. The past few months have been horrid; I've constantly been switching between wifi and my phone's hotspot multiple times per day. As of today, I basically have no internet. Nothing loads, Safari actually thinks I'm not connected to the Internet (which I definitely am, unless they shut me off completely). Customer service reps are never apologetic or helpful. I'm considering cancelling my service a week early since I'm moving and basically without Internet at this point anyway. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Update: I just called to cancel the service. The guy was very polite. However, I almost laughed when he said to go on their website to cancel the service. I told him I couldn't because the Internet wasn't working and he filled out a request for me, which was nice. Doesn't change the fact that the service is awful, though. read more

Ryan was absolutely fabulous and very accommodating. When he got to my house for my scheduled appointment he told me that I had bought the wrong router, so he was flexible and came back later in the day. Unfortunately when he came back I was in the middle of moving and I still hadn't gotten to Target to get the right router. Ryan stayed and waited for 30 minutes so I could run to Target and get the right router, so I wouldn't have to reschedule my appointment. That's what I call customer service! read more

My building uses hiPOINT. It's unbelievably bad service. I'm currently on day 5 of my internet not working at all and when I contacted them, they said they were "working on it." This is not the first time this has happened- I'd say this is the third or fourth time in the past year my building's Internet has gone out for days at a time. Technicians and customer service reps are unfriendly. Would give 0 stars if I could. read more

Had an install for DirectTV and internet from Roosevelt and Rich today, they were both incredibly helpful. Rich made sure my TV had the perfect set-up and walked me through new features. Roosevelt, made sure my internet was in working order, even setting-up Netflix on my Xbox and getting a few other apps launched. Really appreciate the teamwork! read more

Where to start - this is the most unreliable internet service I have ever had. It goes down all the time...Recently I was online on Sunday July 20th - and the internet went down. July 25th - internet down. Tonight July 31st - internet went down. I called to complain this time and they told it was a maintenance outage... We have reached a point where we are having weekly outages.... I didn't give one star because their prices are supposedly pretty good, but you can't rely on their service. Imagine working from home and being on a shared meeting - but your internet goes out in the middle - you can't see anything. How about taking a timed online test for your MBA - and your internet goes out.... These are just a few of the fun experiences I have had when actually trying to use my hipoint broadband... Oh and just to be clear - as I understand it these outages are the entire building- not just my unit... I figured I would start a log here of all the times it goes down. 8/02/13 ~ 7:15 am tried to check my work email before heading into the office- Internet went down a couple times, but only a few minutes at a time before coming back up. 9/17 ~10:30 - well I made it over a month without an outage. I should be happy. I was working on my fantasy football team tonight and again the internet went down. Called customer service and they confirmed our entire building was out but they are working on it. 1/5/2014- So I am only reporting outages of longer than 30 minutes now... And it was down when I tried a few times during the day. Tried to call to report it, after waiting through a broadcast of all the "known" building outages, I was routed to voicemail box to leave a message... their customer service is now a voicemail box where they promise someone will call you back.....Really? 1/6/2014 - Goes down about every 20 minutes for 10 minutes. Talked to a neighbor who managed to contact someone from Hipoint. Apparently they have a lot of buildings down and we are not a priority because our outage is only intermittent. They expect to get around to our building today or tomorrow. 1/29/2014 - There goes the work from home day - time to get ready and go in the office... Hipoint is down - known outage in the area - no estimate when they might be able to fix it. Another great day with (or without) HiPoint internet. 3/15 - call to complain about low speed - internet test shows 800kbs. They restart something and it is back to normal. May 2014 - The journey ends- I am no longer a HiPoint customer.... read more

ZERO stars. It wouldn't let me post without putting at least one star. This internet service provider is the WORST! The only reason I use them is because I have to bc I live in a condo and the association has a contract with them. Their internet is not reliable and when there is an outage, it takes them over 24 hrs to fix! I've been having problems with my internet since Thursday night. I called them on Friday to tell them my internet was out. To which they replied, it's not out...it's just slow right now. It doesn't matter if the internet comes back for one minute, it doesn't stay on and I lost all my work!! Then they send out an email to customers saying they are aware of the outage, that they hope to get it fixed in a few hours, only to send out another email saying they need more time and it should be resolved by last night. Well it's Saturday morning and it's STILL not resolved. Then they send out a other email this morning saying, they think it's resolved. Umm, no it's not, as I type this on my cell phone using my data plan. The email states: if you're still having problems after 4 pm, try unplugging your router. If you still have problems, call us. I'm pretty sure this is their way of buying more time, since my internet is still not working. This is ridiculous! I don't know how they stay in business or think they can run their business like this. Before I was forced to use them, I had AT&T and never had issues. This is just one in MANY service problems I've had with HiPoint internet. I'm just finally fed up enough to write a review. I'm not one to write reviews unless I've had an extremely bad experience. Warning you now: stay away! There are more reliable internet options out there! 5/31/17 - In response to Masud from HiPoint's comment to my review below. This is not "fake news." I don't check Yelp messages often because I don't regularly use it to write reviews. In this case with HiPoint, the internet was THAT bad that I felt like it was my duty to write a review to warn others. One of the worst internet providers in the city, most terrible customer service, slow speeds even when we are supposedly paying for 8 times that speed and there are constant outages. You can never be sure if your home internet from HiPoint would work or not, zero reliability ! I would stay away from HiPoint at all cost. No one should sign up for HiPoint voluntarily, terrible choice. Unfortunately I am stuck with them through my condo building. Can't wait until our condo board finally gets rid of them and replaces them with a more competent provider. read more

I posted my review in the month of July and hipoint customer representative responded in the month of December. With all the issues with your internet connection and multiple unsuccessful attempts to correct from your technical team, Do you expect me to stay with HiPoint? I changed my internet provider to AT&T back in July and I do not experience any issues now (direct connection or through the same wireless router that I used during HiPoint connection) . It's so sad that you cannot even pull records of your previous customers by their first name ( My first name is Deepak ) . Anyway its a lost cause now if you try to do anything. I have already moved to a different provider and never in my life would get back to HiPoint even if you lure me with free monthly connection. I spoke with hipoint to get internet in our condo building last year, made sure to ask the important questions to which satisfactory answers were given...currently our building has been sans usable internet for over 24 hours... when speaking with them, the delivery method of the internet was discussed as well as the impact of weather on that service, we were assured that there would be none...every time there is severe weather there is some interruption whether minor or major...major being at this time...I'm writing on here cause calling the hotline gets us nowhere, just a person who tells us that they are working on it...these interruptions are unacceptable as many residents use it for work as well as leisure... The reason for 3 stars is that the price is very competitive against other options and the speed is as they guarantee (when it's working)...but I need them to do something about these interruptions... I'm writing this on my phone as it is working just fine in this snow...wish I could be streaming a movie instead of writing this... read more

My apartment complex recently started providing HiPoint as the Internet provider. I called CS asking help to set up and needed a technician to come out. Today Rosevelt showed up! He was courteous and very efficient. He answered all of my questions and didn't make me feel like I was being stupid (as I often feel with electronic things!). Very pleased. The internet speeds are fast as advertised and their prices are reasonable. After SO MANY STRUGGLES WITH COMCAST HiPoint is such a relief and their service people are a pleasure to deal with. I can't stand Comcast and how their service always crashes and needs to reboot-which can take 20+ minutes each time.. This happened to me 5-6 times a week. after dealing with AT&T for years our building switched over to Hipoint and not only are we saving over $50 each month but we've had great service. They are a local business and i'm glad our building chose to use them. I've had to deal with 2-3 different people and they were very professional and actually nice guys. Our service has been equal if not better than AT&T so it's win win for us and them. read more

They upgraded our system to faster speeds and distorted our land line. they told me to call ATT and so I did. ATT troubled shoot the line and it's due to the Internet provider. I keep calling them to fix the issue and keep being promised a call back. They never call back. JOSH who is suppose to be a manager said he would even call me back. Never received a call from him and now that I ask for him, he's always busy. Avoid this company. read more

Serious lack of customer service. I called inquiring about an Internet rate I had seen on a flier left in my building. They told me it was expired, flier was only a few weeks old! I asked if they had any other deals and the guys says no but let me ask and call you back. 3days later and no one had called back so I signed up for RCN. Way to lose a new customer. read more

I am at the Montgomery building and am very dissatisfied with this Internet provider. I have lived in multiple condominium buildings in Chicago and have owned here for the last two years. The Internet is by far the worst aspect of living in the building. Hipoint does not care that they provide terrible Internet service. I have emailed them, call them, and have had an on-site technician multiple times with no resolution. Unfortunately, our building is contracted with them and I have no choice. Anybody who has a choice should choose another provider even if it is more expensive. read more

If you live in a place that experiences rainstorms, I would not advise choosing HiPOINT. My husband and were obligated to use them due to a larger contract with our condo association, and we have internet problems on a daily basis. And since it's summer in Chicago, I have to check the weather to make sure to schedule my internet usage around thunderstorms, since we lose service due to any minor atmospheric disturbance. I work from home and regularly get booted off the internet. Even worse, we pay extra for higher bandwidth (16-18 mbps) and only receive 5-7 mbps on average. This results in a biweekly call where they mysteriously "fix" the problem and we get what we pay for. A few days go by and we're back to slow download speeds and spotty connections. Their technical line is on my "frequently contacted" list, right under my mom and dad. We don't have a lot of great choices for internet providers in the city, but I would avoid HiPOINT at all costs. read more

Does anyone know how to cancel the service? I put my cancellation request three days ago as a CSR told me. No change. The account is still showing the active service. BTW, the reason for cancellation? It's just unreliable. I'm very tolerant for the Internet reliability. I always prepare a backup plan for any interruption. But, three interruptions in four days (one even more than 8 hours) are beyond my limit. Also, CSRs are not just helpful but also very rude. read more

These guys seem to really get it. I'm not happy about any internet interruption either, but it's just part of the digital world we live in. It's gonna to go down once in a while. To me, it's about how you handle it when it does. Their efforts to make it right is what impresses me most about HiPoint. When I call Tech Support it's because things have somehow gone wrong. They understand that we are not happy and work to fix it. That's not something you can say for many of the MDU'S servicing buildings in the City. The internet keeps going out and they don't have weekend or evening hrs in the summer to help assist with the issue, even though "they think the error is coming from our end." So unless you have time to keep taking off from work to wait 4 hrs for a technician or lots of data on ur phone this really isn't the company for you. The only upside is that it doesn't have the same hidden fees as Comcast. read more

I live in a building that uses HiPoint for internet services, and I have never had a problem. It's fast, reliable, and best of all, cheap.

We had some hiccups in the beginning but the past 6 months have been outstanding. These guys are saving me close to $60 a month over AT&T. The customer service is very good as well, guy named Gavin seems to always go above and beyond. He came to my condo on a Saturday night to fix a router issue, you don't see that from the big guys. This is my first Yelp Review and given I have used Yelp to evaluate others, I felt compelled to finally start contributing. And the reason I started with HiPoint is it was a case of low expectations being very pleasantly exceeded. As background our 400+ unit building uses HiPoint and I have lived their for 2 years, enjoying good service and speeds. Several weeks back things started to take a turn for the worse and it was getting very difficult to upload and download (1MB upload and download via Speedtest.net). I complained to my building and found a number of my other neighbors were equally dissatisfied. Several of them had been visited by techs only to be told it was likely a router problem, but given the number of us complaining that didn't seem logical. I wrote a rather comprehensive e-mail to our building manager (I know just enough about networks to make a fool of myself) and figured it would be blown off by the company, thus my low expectations. However, I was very surprised to be contacted two days later by a manager and we went over the items in my letter. He then arranged for a tech to come visit, but I later had to cancel. Rather than have to chase them for a reschedule, they called me back. A tech named Roosevelt came to my unit, tested all of my equipment and went down to the core area of the building. Turns out they located a faulty main switch and later arranged to swap it out for the entire building. Overnight our speeds shot back to levels higher than before (90/70MB download/upload) and it is possible this have been failing slowly over time. Should they have known about it and fixed it on their own? Possibly. But as I stated, I was very pleased that they didn't blow off my e-mail, had a manager call and pursued me to reschedule an appointment. And Roosevelt was a patient professional. Given all of that in today's world of Internet providers, I had a five star experience. read more

On June 22 we lost the internet. The technician tested something and said it was our computer. I bought a new Netgear ($45), a new router ($48). Nothing worked. I hired a friend-technician;he could not find anything wrong with the equipment. I gave him $50 for his assistance. Here we are already spent nearly $150 and there is no internet. Still no explanation from HiPoint. Then on July 24 our telephone went out as well. Many calls with suggestions from the techs, do this do that and with "I will report this and get back to you". No follow-up. Suddenly, internet is up but still no dial tone. On July 26, Theresa, guided me and my husband (now two of us working; we do have day jobs) to plug, unplug cords, routers, power lines for the 20th time. Still no phone. After 2 hours of back-and-forth trying we finally got the dial tone. Here is my question, why not sent a technician?. It would save us the $150, plus the give us the phone and the internet. Our condo association had a contract with HiPOINT to deliver high speed internet to our building before they decided to move on to RCN. HiPOINT's internet service itself is spotty, there are many outages and your connection is throttled immediately if you tend to download music and games. We've had to switch through different mediums of service (DSL and cable) because of constant service interruptions and/or wiring problems. Their field technicians attempted to help us through these issues and they are for the most part good. HiPOINT did however try and pull a fast one on us by randomly charging us (without notification) for cable service that they had already agreed to provide (FYI, this was close to a year after installation). When confronted via phone/e-mail, the middle managers of HiPOINT shamefully tried ignoring us. We eventually had to file a complaint through the Better Business Bureau to resolve our billing/service issue and get our money reimbursed. Overall, the internet service itself is too unreliable for a home office. Customer service/middle management is a mess. Ironically, we have had no problems (service, hardware or billing) when our building switched to RCN. Think twice if you are remotely considering HiPOINT. read more

Only positive experiences! After switching a few months back, I am fed up with the Xfinity, RCN and Uverse ads and their big-operation nonsense. Price hikes, slowed speeds at all the wrong times, hidden taxes/fees...it all adds up and their support networks are painful to navigate through. No one wants to be on hold for 15 minutes plus and told to power cycle the box/modem. Hipoint's speeds cannot be beat in Chicago, and when paired with DirecTV I have superior service. DirecTV's menu options make it obvious who the front runner in tv technology is...it isn't about the number of channels anymore. I think that HIPoint is resourceful with their offer, is looking to the future of internet, and it does not hurt that their sales team (Todd, Gavin, etc) is great - customer service is their forte. After many years of hell with Comcast I switched to DirecTV and hiPoint internet. HiPoint did both installations and manages the internet service. I am very please with Both satellite and my internet which I have had now 3 months. The customer service has been very helpful and I had only one brief problem with internet in 3 months, Tons better than Comcast on ALL levels. So glad I switched, even though I got a breakage fine from Comcast--the savings with DirectV and HiPoint internet paid for itself within 3 months. read more
