Great customer service, fantastic boots and incredible value Knowing that I was going to be in Austin for a couple of days on business, I had done a fair amount of research online to find some boot stores and was struck by the online presentation and selection of Heritage Boot. Immediately prior to my trip, I called the store and talked to the owner (Jerry) who walked me through his philosophy and dispelled some of the mystery of buying a good pair of boots. His easy manner and knowledge won me over. I was doubly blessed when I arrived in Austin to find the store almost in the shadow of the Capitol and within easy walking distance of my downtown hotel (just as Jerry had told me), The sweet smell of soft leather perfumed the air when I walked in Heritage Boot and Jerry was there with his engaging conversation and a huge selection of boots. Noting that they were all made in Mexico, I heard him talk of the artisans and the pride that they take in their work. Looking at the boots, it showed. Jerry proceeded to chat, and by simple, but insightful questions, got me to narrow my search to a pair of kick-around suede boots (exactly what I had been looking for!). After asking my normal size, Jerry coaxed me to move down a size and when I slipped them on, he was dead on. This guy knows his boots. It was like these boots were made just for me. One pair sold. Then, I asked him for something "different", and a slight smile crept across his face as he reached for a multi-color embroidered pair of, what I later found out was, shark skin boots. The lower part of the boot is very dark brown mottled matte leather, but the shaft is just plain wild. They just knocked me over. Beyond the shaft stitching, the only hint of their "alternative life" is a bright red "racing stripe" that runs down to the heel. Once again, Jerry pegged me and I bought a second pair, right on the spot. While the selection is huge and he has a full range of sizes, my shark skins needed to be made, so I prepared to wait (impatiently) for them (predicted time, 2-3 months, at most). I say impatiently because the damn boots are just so comfortable, I want to wear and show off my second pair. Well, just as predicted, the "skins" came in last week and they are even better than I remebered. I have to admit that I was more than a little worried about buyer's remorse and/or poor fit. But, Jerry's guidance and patience with me paid off. Even after I got home, and wore the boots to work (casual Friday), they were still comfortable after a full day of wear. I wish my dress shoes were so comfortable when they were first purchased. The boots are only getting more comfortable with each wearing. Heritage Boot gave me a unique combination, rarely found today, of exquisite craftsmanship and very fair prices. Bottom line, Heritage Boot has a customer for life, but the boots are so well made, I am not sure when they will see me again. On second thought, maybe I need those Texas lawyer boots after all... I must say that I was quite impressed with the selection and quality of the boots offered there. The craftsmanship put in these boots are top notch. I had been considering THE boot purchase for some time. $600 is a lot of money for boots. The staff provide the level of service you desire. I am kind of a don't bother me person so the staff member on today helped but was not intrusive. I picked my pair (lizard skin) tried them on and bingo they are awesomerific. I have two pairs of Heritage boots: red and black "hearts and vines" and a pair of black lizard boots. I love them both. I ALWAYS wear the black ones when I travel outside of Texas and they are magnets for people approaching me to say that my boots are amazing and where did I get them? I've made friends due to those boots and had some really interesting conversations with the boots as the opening topic. I've also had people (both here in town and outside of Texas) come and ask if they could take a picture of my boots. (I always say yes and tell them where I got them, so I hope that sends some fans their way). I don't know Patti but Jerry sold me both sets and he's wonderful! He LOVES boots and can chat like a champion about any facet of boot fashion, making, wear...you name it. This is a great store. Just received my second pair of Heritage boots, and I couldn't be happier. The fit and finish of the all-leather, Mexico-made boots are perfect. It's great to own a piece of history in these traditionally handcrafted, stout yet refined kickers. I ordered the first pair back in 2012, and they are wearing incredibly well, so I snagged another pair. I own boots from several fine, well-known El Paso bootmakers--some costing thousands--but my Heritage boots look as great, are beautifully constructed, wear exceptionally well and get lots of compliments. The service from Heritage has always been quick and courteous, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to a friend. Good example: this last pair had a little nick in the leather on one of the vamps...barely noticeable, not anything I'd even care about. But they told me about it up front, sent me photos, and even gave me a discount without my asking--fantastic! If I have one minor nit to pick, it's the lack of an online payment option...not a showstopper for me, but I wonder why they don't implement it. I've never been to Austin, so I haven't visited their store. My guess is, as their online-only customer base grows, it may prompt them to provide other options. My boyfriend had been shopping for a pair of Lucchese Classic rough-out boots for over a year with no luck. There are many lower quality rough-outs out there but he's a devoted Lucchese customer for over 38 years. He has always worn an 11 D in Lucchese's, and whether he ordered them custom-made, purchased them in one of many retail stores or online, they always fit perfectly regardless of model, toe and heel type or material. So after reading an article about the best cowboy boots in the US and saw the great reviews of The Heritage Boot Co, we decided to purchase a pair of their "4638 RANCH HAND BROWN." The lady (Boot Maven?) who took the order over the telephone was very polite and extremely helpful. However, while inquiring about three different rough-out models, she advised him that some fit like Lucchese's and others didn't. She convinced my boyfriend that the 4638 RANCH HAND's would require a 10.5 Med to match a Lucchese 11 D. First red flag that we disregarded. We later wondered how is that? Owners Patty and Jerry supposedly have found this great boot maker in Leon, Mexico. So if that's truly the case, then how is it that some of their boots are not equally sized to their numeric measurements. Don't traditional boot makes use the same molds to manufacture their boots to consistent sizes? US made Lucchese must, as did Justin and T Lamas in past years. Well, the only logical explanation is that they do not only use only one boot maker, they must use multiple shops in Leon. Kind of misleading if true! At any rate, boots arrived 5 days later and they truly were beautiful and appeared to be well made for the price range. My boyfriend tried them on and in order to stay within Heritage return policy, by wearing them, with new quality boot socks, on carpet around the house for several hours. They appeared to fit perfectly. Took them on and off several times, walked up the carpeted staircase several times. All was good. He even said that he may just order three other models he saw on the website if they hold out well after a couple months use. The next day we went to a Boots in the Park concert. We had to walk over a half mile from parking lot to the venue and by the time we arrived, my boyfriend began to complain that the boot appeared to be expanding. By the end of the evening, his foot was floating all over the inside and he began to get blisters. Got a lot of compliments though! That weekend he tried the boots with a thicker pair of socks, which made getting in and out of the boots extremely difficult, but his foot was still floating, especially in the heel. Too late to return now that the soles show wear so we're stuck with a $500 pair of boots that don't fit him. We did not even bother attempting to return the boots because their return policy is clear and my boyfriend is embarrassed that he didn't follow his gut feeling when the Boot Maven told him about the inconsistency in Heritage Boots sizing. I don't know about the quality of Heritage Boots or if they will hold up for years as well as Classic Lucchese's, but they are very nice looking; however, expensive for Mexican made boots. My advise is that if you are considering this company for your next pair of boots, go to their store and buy them in person. read more

There's an understated "Fancy Boots" sign in the window, which is a wink to prepare you for a jaw-dropping assortment of high-end boots (and maybe a little sticker shock; this level of quality and design isn't cheap) These boots are worth every penny: I bought a pair of show-stopping, 16" tall, pointed toe boots (1) There was no break-in period for the leather. Even with a pointed toe - I bought them and wore them for 12 hours; they were as comfortable as a pair of favorite sneakers. Wore them the whole next day, too... no rubbing or blisters. (2) The pegged soles and heels are unbelievably secure and shock-absorbing. No knee or ankle instability or twinges. (3) The designs are one-of-a kind. You will be noticed. Get ready for it. Okay, okay. The store doesn't want you to pull boots off the shelves and scuff them up. And it's impossible not to touch them. They're irresistible. But let the nice staff help you take down the boots. That's why they're there ... They have a terrific website, but you can't order on-line; you have to call the store. Yes "I" had an attitude when I walked through the door and saw the very prominently displayed signs asking you to "not touch the boots". But what happens is extraordinary customer service from Alli and the owner. Were they expensive...it depends on how you value quality. You get what you pay for means just that. I shopped at Luchesse and Allen's (up the street)' this is the place to buy your boots. Leave your attitude at the door and get ready to learn how boots should fit and feel. I absolutely can't wait to receive my boots. They will apply the vibram sole and ship them to Me. No need to carry them on the plane home. Thanks, we will be back! My husband took me here while we were visiting Austin for a short stay. The shop was fairly busy, but the salespeople were all very friendly. The girl who helped us had her hands full - I think I tried every boot on in my size! I enjoyed hearing about the details of what the leathers were made from and the different techniques used to make the different styles of boots - the staff were very knowledgeable. When I finally decided which pair to get, she made sure to go over proper care of the boot uppers and soles to make sure they last as long as possible. I absolutely love my boots - they look great and the stitching and leatherwork is a true piece of art that I get to wear. Heritage Boot was one of the highlights of our trip to the US. The boots screamed quality, there was a great selection, and the service we received was excellent - helpful, honest and down-to-earth. We're in Texas on vacation for three weeks visiting family who've moved over here. My wife and I were keen to buy some boots, but had been disappointed by what we'd found in the large boot emporium we had tried earlier in our trip. A couple of locals recommended we try Heritage Boot, and after checking out their website we drove to South Congress Avenue to take a look for ourselves. You won't find any boots for less than about $350 and many are considerably more, but within a few moments of entering the shop you'll understand why. Every single boot oozes artistry, quality and workmanship. The photos on the web simply can't do them justice. Living in England, I knew I'd be more comfortable with something a little more conservative in style - worried that with the more fancy boots it'd look like I was in fancy dress once I got home. I bought a pair of Apache Brown, which I've been wearing all day - and which I love. My wife loves the pair she bought too. My brother-in-law was completely smitten by the brown ostrich quill boots he tried. Just got my Grafton Street boots. The fit is excellent. The ladies at Heritage Boots that helped me through the selection process and size recommendation were dead on. This was essential since I was ordering them over the phone. I typically wear a 11.5 D in most boot brands. However, they stated with the Heritage snip toe boot I was better off going to the 11 D. Good choice. The boot looks exactly as noted in the web site picture. It is obvious the boot is well constructed. The best part is that they look awesome!! Very cool design. 11/12/2012 Today I visited Heritage Boots and had the worst shopping experience of my life, bar none. As a veteran shopper at 54 years of age, I have never been yelled at and addressed as "Hey, Momma!" (except by my young children) in a retail establishment. From the get-go, the female assistant demonstrated attitude to my friend and me. Upon entering the store, I told the assistant that I was shopping there because they had come highly recommended by a personal shopper at Nordstrom's. (Since the Nordstrom's shoe department is the king of customer service, I was confident I would receive excellent service here, too.) The assistant had no response to my compliment but gave me a verbal reprimand for touching the boots. I continued to inquire about the price of the boots (starting point is high $300's but many are twice or three times that much, btw) and asked why I could not handle the boots. Shortly thereafter my friend and I left, but I returned to express my concerns to the manager/owner about my customer service experience. Before I could finish my first sentence, the manager/owner cut me off with "Hey, Momma! You are the one with the attitude." When I told him that I was unaware that I could not touch the merchandise, he continued in a raised voice, "Hey, Momma! There are signs all over the store telling you of our policy. We are a full service boot store. If you want to take boots off a shelf, then go down to Allen's Boots.!" I answered that I did not see the signs; when I came into the store I was focused on the boots. I also told him that after this, I wouldn't spend a dime in his store. As I walked out, he continued insulting/berating me with his chant of "Hey, Momma!" I also took his advice -- walked down to Allen's Boots. There my friend and I were greeted by a friendly young salesman who immediately asked how he could be of service. He spent at least 20 minutes showing me his selection of ladies boots and discussing the brands and qualities of boots the store carried, as well as how to ensure a proper boot fit. I told him I wasn't quite ready to purchase but when I was, I would come back to see him! He handed me his business card and wished me a good day. I then told him of my shopping experience at Heritage...the sad thing is that he was not all that surprised. By the way, I have never written a review of a business but felt compelled to let Heritage know that retail is no place for insults and name-calling. I did not buy them because this store has the RUDEST sales person I have EVER encountered. I work in fashion sales and literally visit stores around the world so this statement coming from me is more than valid. Seriously if I was the owner of this shop I would let her go. That kind of person is just bad for business. It doesn't matter how exquisite the product is if the people behind it are awful. I decided to spend my $900 elsewhere. Don't touch the boots? Inane. This place is symptomatic of everything that's wrong with Austin (my hometown) now. Used to be, a shop like this wouldn't have lasted a week. Austin used to be such a cool place. Now that it's mushroomed in population and exploded with celebrities, it's lost its unique down-home and off-the-beaten-track quality. Instead, it's developed an over-the-top, self-consciously "cool" attitude--perfectly reflected by shops like this--which, of course, means that it's not only not cool, but is pathetically class-bound. You're selling cowboy boots, people: get a grip. I don't care how expensive they are, a don't-touch-the-boots policy, accompanied by a snotty attitude, has no place in Texas. Anywhere. My wife and I sat down told Allie what we were looking for and the boot parade started. One hour later my wife and I walked out with three pair of one of a kind boots. recently while cleaning out my closets i discovered that my favorite pair of cowboy boots, bought on a girls' weekend in las vegas, finally had to be put down. they were suede and basically my foot, after 15 years of pulling them on, went right through and out the other side. sadness does not begin to describe the emotion i had when i pulled my revolver out of it's holster and whispered, 'goodbye old friends'... anyway, i went online at a friends prompting to Heritage Boots and found EXACTLY what i was looking for...JD Apache. OMG...i LOVE these boots. i called and spoke w Alie who directed me to the correct size and sent me via text a photo of the calf lengths (tall and short...i went w the short size). she was very sweet and explained that they are so dark in color because they just arrived and the oil is still wet, but that they will lighten over time. the color on the website is way lighter, like a burnt butter and i loved it, but even dark as they were in the photo, i knew they were my boots. if they lighten up (and i'm sure they will) that's even better. i just got them delivered to my office and i am SO STOKED i cannot even tell you. they are really beautiful...not too fancy (though some of the fancier ones on the website caught my eye as well). but i was really looking for a simple, understated cowboy boot that i could wear with everything and that would last for ever or close to it. i'm hard on my shoes and i can tell that these will walk with me a looooong time! 5 stars. great service. speedy delivery. beautiful product. i'm a happy san franciscan cowgirl. read more

I just ordered a pair of Heritage Boots for myself, after examining the pair I bought for my wife. When I put them on, they fit perfectly (ordered over phone). They are the most comfortable pair of footwear I have ever worn on first fitting. The materials appear to be of very good quality and the workmanship is excellent. I paid about $450 out the door, so to speak, for these boots and I feel that I got a tremendous bargain. Look around, you will NOT find this quality of footwear, particularly cowboy boots, with the serious craftsmanship and attention to detail at this price range anywhere else. Prior to buying these boots, I looked pretty seriously at 600-1000 Lucchese boots and their high end competitors. These Heritage Boots exceed those brands by far. The boots are nice enough (although a bit stiff and generic), but the shop keeper (I think he was owner) was soooo incredibly rude to us. I was shocked by his behaviour and comments particularly since we were serious buyers who needed to buy a pair that day. Thankfully Allen boots is down the street.
