I took my leather Tory Burch boots here for repair of the shoe sole. The owner, Noel came out to explain to me the various options I had and the price difference. He was really patient with my questions and was honest about what was not necessary to do. His pricing was very fair and it was a really speedy turn around time. I dropped my boots off here for a re-gluing. I was told it would only take about a week and I'd get a call when they were ready. Two weeks go by and I give them a call and go straight to voicemail. I called again a couple days later and again the day after that. By then it had been 3 weeks and I had no idea what was going on with my boots. Finally get ahold of the owner and he gives excuses as to why he wasn't in the shop and tells me to call back the following Monday. I call again that Monday and he says he's not in the shop again but says he remembers my boots and that they're ready. When I go in to get them I notice they're more snug in the toe than before and there's visible flecks of glue around the edge of the sole. I was also told upon drop off that a cleaning was included in the repair price, but my shoes came back to me with the same toe scuffs and we're still in need of a conditioning. On top of it all I was charged $50 for glue and 3 weeks of waiting, I could've done the same job at home. read more

I had a very good experience this week when I had to drop in to get my new boots fixed. See, I had gotten them at Marshall's in Boston, but the buckles where the straps loop through had fallen off. Lucky for me I didn't try to fix them at home, by myself, with superglue! I was telling Noel about this and he said that I might have been able to do it, but once he got them into the back room and got a good look, he said it was a much more involved process because he had to glue one side of the buckle to the leather first...instead of just gluing the two buckle sides together. In about 30 minutes (I went ahead and took them off and walked around in my socks), he had them BETTER than new, since they were already broken when I bought them (not complaining, though, I got a $300 pair of boots for...TWENTY dollars!). I was thrilled. I asked him what the damage was and he said $20....can't beat that....there were four buckles, so....$5 a piece! and I have boots that I can still wear instead of ones with superglue all over them. Noel is the owner of the shop and he has a very impressive amount of vintage/used boots...and even some custom made ones. Drop by....they are very reasonable priced, and you get to stare at all of the stuffed animals from Martinez Brothers Taxidermy (they share the building). read more

I have a really nice pair of Lucchese boots that I had worn so much that a hole had opened in the sole. I discovered from Allen Boots that it was going to cost me $250.00 plus shipping to send them back to the Lucchese factory for official repair. So I found this place online and went to check it out. Noel greeted me and was very cordial and fun to speak with. He offered a much better price than the $250 I was going to pay so I rolled with Noel. These 3-year old Helm boots went in to the leather spa to have a grease stain removed, new heel caps, re-staining, and polishing. I added shoe horns because all leather footwear should have shoe horns. These boots should last forever. Cost: $$ out of $$$$$. Worth it! read more

I recently acquired my first pair of custom cowboy boots secondhand, which is to say, they were not custom made for ME. I needed the calves to be stretched out a bit. After reading Alex M.'s yelpreview about the "porn star hottt and bothered loving attention" that his vintage cowboy boots received, I made a beeline for Texas Custom Boots. As I handed Noel my boots, he said, "Tommy Taylor made your boots... wow. I met him about 15 years ago in Santa Fe... he was a master craftsman. How did you like working with him?" I was flummoxed. Flummoxed because I never met Tommy. Flummoxed because he said "was". Flummoxed because master craftsmen probably do not appreciate people who buy custom boots second hand... "Ummm. When did he die?" "A couple years ago... GREAT guy, very talented." Lineage is strangely important to me... so I was thrilled at one level that the person operating on my new old boots was connected in any way to the man who made them, but maybe a bit embarrassed that I bought them barely used and needed Noel to make my custom boots custom for ME for a fraction of what he charges for his beautiful boots. "I never met him but I like that you did. I bought these used and need the calves stretched out... can you do that?" "Sure! I will measure your calves, stretch your boots, and then clean them up a bit, so when you get them back, they will look like new. If you bought these for under $350, you got an amazing deal on them." "Yes, I got an amazing deal. What would you say they are worth... like, if I were to have these made for my feet?" "Well, probably around 2K... but he has died, so you can take that to mean they are worth more or less... they are a rare collector's item and they are worth more OR people are not interested now that he is not producing and they are worth less." My boots were ready in a week, the leather had been oiled and rubbed and maintained and the heels had been meticulously cleaned. Calf stretching cost me about $40 so the total cost on the boots was just under $100. Noel was very thorough, professional, and easy to work with...he does not appear to be a man who would care about flummoxing anyone. I had a great experience that connected me to the history of my new acquisition and ended up with beautiful boots that fit me. All in all, clearly an unflabbergasted WIN. read more

In October 2009, my husband bought his first pair of cowboy boots. They were $400 and he bought them at Heritage Boot. Three months later, in January 2010, the heel caps were worn down and, on one of the boots, separating from the wood. My husband is not hard on his shoes/boots. He goes to work (at a carpeted office), he comes home, he wears them out to restaurants...that's it. Heritage Boot recommended Noel at Texas Custom Boots for the repair. I went to Noel's little shop on South 1st. He told me it would be $50 for the new heel caps (and a shine!) and assured me that, once he replaced the caps, they wouldn't need to be replaced for a long time. He showed me what he was going to use. There was a huge difference - the original (Heritage Boot) heel cap was soft and squishy; the heel cap Noel was going to put on was solid and substantial. We were annoyed at having to spend $50 to replace heel caps on three month old $400 boots. Everyone we shared the story with encouraged us to call Heritage Boot again. While not at all friendly on the phone, Patti from HB agreed to arrange to pay for the repair with Noel. Apparently she made quite a scene when she went to Noel's shop, butting in front of another customer who was there first and giving Noel's employee an earful before Noel came out of the bathroom. In the end, Noel never got paid. Just like Noel promised, the heel caps he put on a year ago show very little wear. Unfortunately, now the boots need new soles and we've returned to Noel to have that work done. I don't know if it's normal to have to replace soles on boots that have been worn for a total of less than a year (my husband doesn't wear them in warm weather) but that's the situation. We know Noel will do a fantastic job and the new soles will undoubtedly last far longer than the original ones. Next time we are in the market for boots, we will definitely buy from Noel. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Noel and his team at Texas Custom Boots. I borrowed my sister's $400 UT Student Government Boots to go to the BYU game in Provo...at which I was caught in a torrential mountain downpour. Literally soaked all the way through all of my clothes including my sister's fancy boots. I was sure they were ruined as water was squeegying (yes, that's the official term) out of the top of the toe of the boots. They were absolutely waterlogged and certainly ruined. Enter Noel and TCB. I took the soaked then dried and at this point, defunct UT boots in along with my handmade rattlesnake Lucchese boots that needed some love. While the repair took longer than expected due to the amount of work that had to go into repairing the boots (I found out that mold had actually formed in the boots after only one week), I could not have been happier with the results. Noel had to presoak them, reshape them to fit, then recondition them. They are better than new. My rattlesnakes came out beautiful as well with all the scales conditioned and smoothed down. Noel took the time to affectively communicate as the repair was ongoing (he even texted me as that's easier for me), and then when I arrived to pick them up, he took the time to show me all they had done, plus go over care for all my boots (yeaaaah, I've got 15 pairs. Some call it a sickness, I call it being Texan). He also gave me recommendations on how to store them. When all was said and done, he SAVED the boots for only $100. I am THRILLED with the results. I can honestly say that this is the ONLY place I will take any of my boots for repair or custom fitting from here on out. Thanks for saving my ass on these boots, Noel, and restoring them to their former glory. Austin original and Austin proud. read more

I have no doubt they do great work on boots, but their customer service leaves so much to be desired, I left without getting the work I needed done. I left my boots there for over three weeks, with two promises from them to call me. I never received a call. I decided to pick up my boots, and still had to stand in the waiting area for a solid five minutes before anyone acknowledged me, including the two fellows with whom I made eye contact when I walked in. Perhaps their real strength (and income) is creating custom boots. Perhaps they offer other services only as a courtesy. Still, I know that good customer service is easier in the long run than poor customer service. If you say you'll call, call. If you know you're going to be closed for two weeks over the holidays, tell your customers that. I wouldn't have minded waiting three weeks or even longer, had I known beforehand that was the deal. But the lack of communication was so avoidable and so frustrating, I won't be going back. read more

I walked into their shop close to tears after another book shop wouldn't let me even try a pair of boots on, saying that they didn't have any that would come close to fitting me. He was very fair about the price of the boots and the customizations he made to them (making the heel a bit higher and repairing some minor damage to the toe). I was really nervous to bring my $1,500 boots here for stretching around the calves. The place I bought them from wasn't comfortable stretching them any further due to the elaborate embroidery and rhinestones. This place was not afraid of the challenge. They needed to be stretched TWO INCHES. That's a lot. He got it done in about a week as i was not in any hurry and it was $50. A fair price to pay for the level of skill and patience required to get this done. I believe he had to go through his process twice to get the desired result. I have to say, I was extremely disappointed. I brought a pair of boots here after reading such great reviews about this place! Noel told me it would take him 2weeks to sew the inner lining of one of my boots! It ended up taking over a month before I got my boot back... Not just that every time I called to check on the progress, no one answered OR ever called me back, so a few days later I would just top by the shop each time to hear they still weren't done!
