I brought in a pair of naturally distressed shoes I've owned for two years that had stitching coming undone at the toe. They repaired them quickly, buffed them out, and the cost was far less than expected--easily 90% cheaper than buying a new pair. I'll get at least another couple of years out of them. Wow, what a throw back to the "good old days". I have an old pair of nice cowboy boots that I only wear when it's cold. It got cold and I noticed both heels were a bit worn. I was driving by an Austin Shoe Hospital and stopped in. Asked about having it done while I waited, but apparently the Shoe Hospital sends them out now (huh?). Later on I called Austin Shoe repair and they said come on down anytime except between one and two, when the shoemaker eats lunch. I did. Took off my boots and was told to make myself comfortable on the one chair in their small but tidy little shop. I asked to use the bathroom and in my stocking feet walked into an immaculately clean little bathroom (it was cleaner than the one I went to in my Doctor's office, earlier in the day). In a reasonably short time the nice lady presented my nicely cleaned, buffed and new-heeled boots. The cost was reasonable and the service terrific. Shame that things we used to take for granted are so hard to find these days. read more

THESE PEOPLE RUIN SHOES!!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR SHOES HERE! Take it from someone who buys expensive shoes and takes great care of them. I put protective soles on my brand new shoes regularly so they last longer and I don't damage the shoe right off the bat. I came to this hangnail of a place because my normal shoe shop- Austin Shoe Hospital (which does incredible work) was closed on Sunday. I brought my brand new, never been worn $950 Jimmy Choo pumps here the be soled and these clowns put the wrong size rubber soles on them and painted the sides of the rubber a super dark brown and got that dark brown paint all over the sides of my shoes. Instead of trying to take the excess brown paint off or fix it, they decided to paint on top of the brown paint with a bright pink paint to try to cover it up. When I went to pick up the shoes, I pointed it out as it was super obvious. They said they would try to fix it. It took 3 weeks of trips back and forth for me to try and get my shoes clean and they never got any cleaner, they just kept adding more and more pink paint. By the third time, the guy in the back came forward and said my shoes "came like that." That he was done working on them and refused to do any more work. He demanded I pay $25 in cash and leave. He would not accept my credit card because he didn't want me to call my credit card company to get a refund. He said if I chose not to pay, he would keep my shoes and call the cops because I was now causing a problem. I wish there was video footage of this, because I just stood there while he screamed at me. I paid the $25 and left. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else otherwise it will look like you took your shoes to an elementary school on arts and crafts day. read more

DISHONEST!!! DON'T DO BUSINESS HERE!!!!! I brought my boots in to get re-heeled. When I picked them up, there were scratches and weird marks (see photos) all the way around one heel. Looks like when they were filing around the new bottom, they rubbed against the entire heel and scratched it. When I told the guy that I was not happy, he said that that was how they were when I brought them in. NOT TRUE! He was incredible rude and got really mean. I then had to wait about 15 minutes while he called Lupe (the front desk lady who wasnt there that day) and told her (In spanish) that my boots were brought in that way and that because they weren't "nice" boots, that it wasn't his problem. As a customer, I've never been treated so horribly before. I came back in the next day to talk to Lupe and she told me that my boots were brought in that way and that if I wanted them to get smoothed out, I would have to pay them another $5. I made the mistake of wearing my cute boots to Volsteads dance floor on a busy Saturday night where somebody (not me, but also it was me) dropped a tequila soda right on my boots. Needless to say I thought they were ruined and almost threw them out but wanted to give the repair shop a shot. So glad I did! They removed the water spots AND fixed the scuffs on the heel. Please.. don't bring your shoes here. I brought my boots into Austin Shoe Repair because one of the zippers slipped off. I was pleasantly surprised that they were only charging me $8 to repair the zipper. When I came to pick up my boots, I was horrified. The thread used around the zipper was a completely different color than it was supposed to be and the sewing was very, very sloppy. As if that wasn't bad enough, he added zipper stoppers to the top of my boot that honest to God looked like 2 gold teeth. I went back and explained to the lady that I would be needing my money back so someone could fix the mistakes they had made. The cobbler guy took off the hideous gold teeth and re-broke the zipper which was really classy. I brought an expensive belt buckle in for repair-when I came to pick it up it was further damaged despite their claims they "didn't touch it." I asked the business if they would provide me with their insurance information so I could have my property replaced and they refused to do so, refused to talk to me further and went into the work shop behind the front counter. Terrible customer service in refusing to admit they caused damage, refusal to fix the damage, and refusal to provide insurance information. I do not write reviews unless a business's rating is not in concert with my experience with the business. In this case, you should know that Austin Shoe Repair's owners (I recall Guadalupe, but I do not remember her husband's name) are not honest and have unprofessional, bizarrely reckless practices. They ruined my most expensive pair of dress shoes--a burgundy pair of Salvatore Ferragamo loafers, which retail for $600. (My father gave them to me as a gift.) During a simple heel replacement job, they did this by dyeing the welt its original black and carelessly dyeing (using permanent, alcohol-based sole/edge/heel dressing) black onto the burgundy upper. The black staining on the upper is ruinously all over the upper near the welt. They either over-dyed, realized their mistake and tried to hide it with a woeful black staining effect all around the upper, or they carelessly dyed the edge unknowing of the fact that the sole/edge/heel dye is permanent. Either way, this was an extremely basic shoe repair job that they got totally wrong and ruined a beautiful pair of dress shoes. Frankly, I would have demanded they replace the shoes, but I carelessly did not check the Ferragamo loafers (I got several heel cap replacements at once) till I got home. I knew they would never pay $600 to replace the shoes when I had already accepted and paid for their repair, so I just accepted that I have to get them dyed black to keep them. What a disaster. Please do not trust them to do good work, or to admit when they do horrible, damaging work. read more

Such a great place! My boyfriend originally took a pair of shoes there to get cleaned up and polished, and he said it was great. Of course, I had to see for myself...and I couldn't agree more. I brought in a pair of Steve Madden combat boots that had been attacked by my puppy...Which basically means, there was a huge hole in the sole, an insert in one of the shoes had been eaten, there was a small hole in the side, and the structural support of one of the heels was gone. Basically, they looked terrible. I originally was just going in to have the soles replaced so that I could wear them, and not get my socks wet if it was raining...That costed me about 30 bucks. Not bad I guess.... but this is why they get 5 stars. If you have shoes you love, STAY AWAY. My mom came to visit and we decided to get my favorite Clarke high heels (leather and suede) re-soled and sewn, as I'd had them for a year, and worn them everyday. My mom was leaving Wednesday, so she brought them in on Saturday afternoon and said it was very important she have them finished by Tuesday. The lady PROMISED they would be done by Tuesday afternoon. That's 4 days to finish shoes. We go in on Tuesday and the lady first can't find my shoes, then tells us he hasn't started on them and they wouldn't be done till the following afternoon. Hello!? You couldn't call and tell us after you knew they wouldn't be finished? I finally get my shoes and they stay open an extra ten minutes so I can pick them up after work, and there' s a NEW HOLE in the side of my shoe. They don't look new or fixed at all, and it cost $35 dollars! My shoes are worse than they were before we went in. This place is awful. If you're willing to spend $35 to fix your shoes, go elsewhere. read more

The sole was of equal or better quality than the original - Vibram rubber. Paid $50 which I thought was a little pricey for a pair of $150 shoes, but hey, it's better than spending another $150 (especially when you love the shoes).
