In 1981, David borrowed $1,000 and put out a shingle of his own when he bought the shop from his uncle... years before the Austin Shoe Hospital even opened. At one point his shop on Congress and 5th was over 3,000 sq ft. And he had a second shop, too. He's since sold both shops and most of his equipment but he still repairs shoes (especially boots!) for a few hours each week. This man represents the old Austin that I loved so much. We have used Abraham's several times over the years for boot and shoe repair, along with canvas and leather luggage. David always has the repairs finished on time, and his repairs have held up extremely well. If he can't repair the item, he tells you that and explains why. If possible, he will refer you to someone he knows who can make the repair. David is semi-retired and has moved the shop into his garage off of Duval Rd, a mile or so north of 183. It's easy to find. His hours are 10-2. It's wise to call ahead to be sure he's available before you head over. I would not take my shoes, purses, or luggage anywhere else! read more

Outstanding!!! David Abraham is a craftsman and puts out the best product by far in town. My husband always has his shoes repaired by him. The reason I was prompted to finally do a review was because he's just so darn honest! I had a pair of shoes that I called him about and explained what I needed done and instead of being a slick salesman and saying "oh sure, I can do that", he informed me that due to that company not typically making a product that's repairable AND I'd honestly just be better off buying a new pair. He could have totally just made it worked and made money off me, but instead he said it's going to be the same cost as buying a new pair and for me to think on that. I just found that refreshing! He always does a wonderful job on my husband's shoes and he will be our "shoe and boot guy" from now until he's ready to quit doing it! read more

Hands-Down THE BEST place to bring your old favorites back to life. They made my 14 year old ropers look brand new, so now I've got shiny new boots that are already broken-in, comfortable, and ready to add to my jeans in Fall weather! They also restored my black ankle boots that have walked miiilles on NYC's, Austin's, and other city's sidewalks without leaving blisters or aching feet. I assumed those boots (that went with EVERY pair of pants) were goners, but now they look like they're right off the rack! The brothers who own and run this small shop are absolute magicians, and I'll never take my leathers to another shop. They make every effort to work with you (maybe you can't get there until 15 minutes past closing? Call them and they'll wait for you!), and definitely bring back memories of when shops were small-town and family-owned instead of corporate, cold, unfeeling warehouses. I was able to have them stretched, took home for test drive, and brought back for little more stretch - no extra charge. They also do small leather good repair. I am EXTREMELY pleased with Abraham's shoe repair. I live on the south side of town, and drove up here, to entrust my Frye Boots to be reheeled. Backstory-- I bought these boots when I got home from being deployed. Being stationed in Germany, I missed Texas so much, that I wanted anything I could to remind me of home. I ordered these Frye's for almost $300, and wore them proudly. Eventually the heel wore down, and 12 years later, I knew they needed repairs. David at the shop was extremely helpful in telling me how he would rework them, and I left the shop. Not even 2 weeks later (maybe less), I get the call to come get them. Needed a heel liner re-glued today, David diagnosed the problem and re-glued it while I waited for free. Told me to come by again if it becomes a problem again. I've been there previously for slightly more complex work like a sole liner / topy and that has held up great, at very reasonable prices and a very high level of customer service as Today's experience demonstrated. The same shoes that some drunk girl had proceeded to wear and damage the heels even further (yeah, that was me too). Abraham's fixed the damage, gave me new heels, and only charged me $17. Dropped my 3 ferragamo bar as off with them on Aug 13. Abraham, the older guy who does bigger fixes on shoes, was on vacation so the son, didn't get his name, put them on hold for him to work on and get a better understanding of what to do. Fast forward to Abraham returning from his vacation and he called me to let me know of some changes that the son had initially mentioned to me. Cheaper too! I called back a few weeks after and wasn't sure if they were finished with my shoes since it had been a while since I had heard from them when they said they were gonna start working on them. The dad picked up and looked around, had to call me back but finally found em and they were all good to go! Picked them up and the guy told me if anything happens, heel cap comes off, a week, a month, anything we did that goes undone, bring them back in, don't get mad get even! I needed my shoes shined for a wedding so I called around to nearby places. One place placed me on hold for more than 8 minutes so I hung up. I called this place and they said they could shine my shoes on the spot, will take 5 minutes, for $5. I hurried over and the gentleman I spoke to stayed true to his word. He was quite meticulous and did a very fine job, paying attention to details as he shined my shoes. He was also very friendly and made for great conversation. These fellas have a method to their madness. I brought them a pair of early 1970's Italian leather platform that were in dire need of repair and they made them like new again! Give this place a try if you're looking for a great local shoe repair shop. They are very affordable and the service is awesome! I've been to Abraham's twice, once at the old location and recently at the new location. The guys are wonderful and friendly. I've only had minor repairs done and always anticipated to pay a lot since that's what other shops charge, however, it always comes out to be a fraction of what I anticipated. Plus, they will do certain minor fixes for free. Turnaround time is also quick for the repairs I had. I believe they do not accept CCs for payment. read more
