I always love going to Allens, even if it's just to browse. They've got so much incredible stuff to look at. 10,000 pairs of boots, hats, shirts, accessories, and so on. We stopped in today, 9/19/26 for the first time in about a year. My boyfriend was looking for a new pair of boots and he found just what he was looking for. It was nice because (like always) there was no pressure to buy anything and the sales staff go out of their way to assist and accommodate you. They also do an incredible job of making sure the boots fit properly. We've had some instances at other shops close by where the staff aren't always helpful with proper fittings. Here, it's spot on. Allen's Boots has been a spot I've been coming to since they first opened, but I've never seen it as busy as it was on this Saturday afternoon visit. The store was absolutely packed, yet there were still plenty of well trained staff helping customers. We didn't have to wait at all for assistance, which was great. We found a hat that was very close to what we were looking for, had it fitted, and it turned out great. After we made our purchase, they even took us over to their bar for a celebratory shot of whiskey. I love the poker playing raccoons! I don't even know where to start! Great selection of hats, many shaped to your liking, great selection of boots (didn't have my size in a popular Ariat style no biggie). I fell in love with the color of a hat but wasn't vibing with the shape, they made is almost exactly like the other hat I was buying and that was perfect. Matt and the gentleman who helped actually shape my hat were wonderful. Left with a beautiful black Stetson and a gorgeous brown Resistol. I was also able to get a more feminine bolo tie which I appreciate because that doesn't happen often! So many are too masculine for my liking. Let me preface this with the following information: I grew up in Midland, Texas and lived in Austin for 25 years off and on from 1986-2013, when I moved first to Terrell, TX and then to South Carolina. Let's just say Austin was no longer a friendly place to live for a social worker trying to get ahead (AKA buy a house some day). After 2 attempts to get to ATX in 2025, I finally gave up on the airlines and decided to drive. I made it on 2/28/26 with a long list of "errands" that included "buy cowboy boots at Allen's." Imagine my dismay and surprise to see scads of people lined up north of Allen's at a boot store that looked like it was straight out of IG. Who are these people and why are they queuing for an overpriced California-looking place when the real deal is just a few stores south?? We bought my daughter's first pair of boots (red ropers) at Allen's back in 1994/1995. Why mess with tradition? I'm an Aggie, so we cotton to tradition. Anyhoo, Pedro was helping me find some boots and I got down to two pairs that fit like a dream. When my friend asked which pair I would buy, I made a quick decision - both. After all, it took two cancelled flights and a (kid you not) wrench in my tire to make it to ATX. I wasn't going to waste the trip making hard decisions. I don't get into AUSTIN very often. I was downtown with a business partner and our day didn't go as planned. We decided to take our business elsewhere and walk through the scenery of S. Congress Ave. We wandered into Allen's Boots as many people do I'm sure. I love the smell of the leather wafting into the street. I couldn't help myself side, dragged my friend in since he was looking for a cowboy hat. And like a couple of kids, we wandered to the aisles and tried it on different hats. We found a couple that looked really good on him as he is just a clown in general. Had a good time! No, had a great time! The prices were not cheap. Be ready to pull out your credit card because I don't ever carry that much cash. There are many different boots I would like to pick from, but I'm not a cowboy. This place is nuts. I figured when in Texas, you might as well look around for a pair of real cowboy boots. I had any idea of maybe trying to score a pair in gold metallic leather or black and sparkly like the kind Madonna wore in "Desperately Seeking Susan" but no such luck. Still with the rows and rows of cowboy boots in every other imaginable color, the strong smell of real leather and the friendly salespersons, I have to say it's worth a visit even if you're not buying a pair. Scoot your boots on into Allen's! This place is the best for getting a good pair of boots! I think it's probably the place with the widest selection in Austin! They have aisle after aisle of men's and women's boots, sorted by size. Be sure to check out the cowboy hats as well. My favorite thing about Allen's is all the accessories that they sell- the wallets, the hats, belts, belt buckles, bandanas. You can tell that this place has been here forever, and has put the boots on all kinds of people. It's a great place to get something different, where they're not all work boots. Many of these boots are for cutting rugs. I love the way that this store smells. It just smells like fine leather. The service is warm and friendly. They offer to measure your feet, or tell you how handsome any pair of Tony Llama boots will look on those hooves you got. The service is friendly with a country flair. Love it. Parking can be challenging here. There's all kinds of headaches associated with parking on S Congress. I'd take a bike or walk, if I were you. Put those boots to work, son! Visited friends in Austin for the weekend. Being from Florida and a former Texan, i thought about time i get some authentic cowboy boots!! My friend immediately suggested Allen's. I had never heard of them and only knew of the other splashy names in boots (which everyone has so i was really not interested in those brands).... From the minute we walked in to Allen's on S Congress (coolest area of town btw!) we were hit with the smell of leather and massive crowds but the kindest sales people who were milling about and taking care of everyone (somehow!)... i found my aisle based on my size and quickly fell in love with 2 pairs... put them on hold and decided to think about them while i made sure the fancy stores a few doors down didn't have anything I might like more... tried on a pair at one store and they didn't come CLOSE (in style or comfort) to the 2 i had on hold already... found nothing at the other store that i even wanted to bother trying on.... Went back TO Allen's and lamented over choosing between traditional brown with a little blue flair or a GORGEOUS cream pair with a darker cream/taupe at the bottom... the sales person could not have been more helpful- reminded me to think about my skin tone and how it would look with different boots If I am wearing a skirt, what clothes I would wear with the boots, etc. Truly helpful and took her time with me and genuinely seemed engaged and interested in helping me decide- so sweet! I Ultimately decided to go with the beautiful cream pair knowing I would get a ton of use out of them and they were a little bit different than the Norm which i like! They even offered to ship them to me, and I didn't have to worry about getting them in my luggage for the flight home! Shipping was really no extra because if you are shipping out of state, they do not include state sales tax. Win win!!! You can't come to Austin without checking out this store. You might think you don't want boots but after coming here, you might change your mind. In fact, even if you have no interest in boots at all, you should still visit this shop. It's a hoot. The music playing inside while we shopped was either dance music or disco. I can't remember. Either way, it seemed totally out of place but in a great way. This place is just fun. There are endless rows of boots here. Some are fairly modest in design and many are just out of this world. They really are art pieces. They have shirts and belts and other items, too, but you are here for the boots. Our group didn't buy any boots but the service we received was off the charts terrific. The woman who assisted us answered all of our questions and was very helpful and friendly. Make sure you check out the hats in the adjoining room next to the boots. I looked good in some of them and ridiculous in others. Find out how good you look in a cowboy hat. This is a must visit in Austin. She wanted a real pair of Western boots, and there's no better place in the world to purchase a good quality pair from Allen. I bought my first pair from Allen fifteen years ago and my second eight years ago. My first was a custom design by yours truly, and Allen made my dream come true. After all these years, it still is my favorite pair of boots, which led to my second pair. But I bought my second pair right from the shelf! My brother loved mine so much that I bought him a pair for his birthday. So, that should let you know my niece was equally pleased with Allen's selection, too. Also, there are more than the best boots here! Allen carries a wide selection of Western hats, belts, and clothing! But if you aren't ready to purchase, the store is equally pleasing to the eye to browse around in and ask questions about the history of Western boots and clothing. I browsed this store for about 30-45 minutes. This includes looking at boots, clothes, and hats. The staff really seemed to not care if you bought anything or not, and not one time did anyone ask me if they could help me. It's almost like "here we are, in this tourist area, so they'll buy stuff here". For the selection they get 4.5stars. Pretty good, especially boots. For customer service they get 1, only because you can't give zero. For value they get a 2.8. Not terribly priced, but I've seen better prices in other western stores.
