Ordered some Allen Edmonds shoes for local pickup. Store was clean and welol presented with high-quality American made products. Salesman was very courteous and professional and laced up the shoes and set me up to try them on. I was impressed that shoes came with a shoe horn. Overall great experience. Poor customer service and they don't stand behind their product. Tried on multiple shoe sizes, person at the store recommended a size based on the fit in the store and gave me "they get even more comfortable as you wear them." Wrong. They're too small. But the company says you can return them within 60 days, so I took them back. Wrong again. They refused to take them back, when I requested an exchange, because they've "been worn." Seems to me that implicit in having sixty days to return is that I can, you know, wear them during the sixty days. Bottom line: shop elsewhere. read more

My husband is addicted to these shoes and we don't have a nearby store where we live... so of course when we came to Austin we had to stop by the store for him to check out another pair of shoes he adores. The only person that works there did greet us, but she was assisting another customer (which was fine). We waited around for quite some time because she gave her full attention to the person she was helping - which seems cool, but she is the only person working. 30 minutes later we still hadn't been seen. For the price of the shoes, more than one person needs to be working there after work hours. My husband will unfortunately still be getting the shoes because he loves them, but it'll likely be online. I had never been to an AE store before, and I will likely not go back after this experience. Customer service is apparently hard to come by. read more

Great store. Have been to various Allen Edmonds throughout the United States and can unequivocally say staff at this location has knowledge far beyond what I have experienced elsewhere. From Michael and his knowledge of music and film to Jeff, the store manager's deep knowledge of Allen Edmonds' history, sizing and lasts you can't go wrong being fitted in the store. In fact, rather than trying to squeeze me into a size too small and opting for a wider width Mark advised that he did not have properly fitting Chelsea boots for me in stock. If you're looking for an elegant pair of dress shoes that will last you a long time, this is the place to go. All of the shoes are made in the USA of high quality leather, and they're Goodyear welted, so they can be easily resoled when the soles wear out. The styles are classic and range from dressy cap-toe oxfords to full-brogue wingtips and longwings to single and double monk straps, loafers, and way more than I can think of. The people in the store really know their stuff and will get you a pair that fits great. I came in thinking that I was a size 10D, but it turns out that a 9.5C fits me way better. Even if you know your Brannock size, Allen Edmonds builds different shoes on different lasts, and each last fits a little differently. It's well worth stopping by and getting fitted. The only real downside is the price. Just about everything is $385 per pair. If you can wait, there are significant sales several times a year -- they'll price match the Nordstrom anniversary sale in the summer, and the Rediscover America sale in the fall has good discounts as well. Additionally, Allen Edmonds has a factory shoe bank where you can order factory seconds and discontinued styles at a significant discount. read more

Went to return/exchange a pair of shoes that were hurting my feet. First thing I find out is that there are "No returns," only exchanges... "Because they'd been worn." How am I supposed to know they hurt my feet if I don't wear them??? So, be sure to read THAT piece of fine print. Beyond that exchange, the salesman was smug and very unfriendly. He never smiled and acted as if I was a huge bother. I was so irritated that I will likely just give these $450 shoes to Goodwill. This company will never, ever get another dime of my money. I recommend that you stay away from this place. I will buy all my shoes from Nordstrom from now on. Thy know how to treat me with respect and make sure that I'm 100% satisfied. Completely felt like we were putting the sales people out! When you're spending that much on shoes I would think the customer service would be MUCH better. My husband had been in the store a few days before and walked out after waiting for service...was told by salesperson he'd would be right with him and then started helping someone else who came in after him. I bought my first pair of AE shoes just a couple of months ago, but I'm already a customer for life. The quality of the shoes is exceptional and the customer service throughout the entire company is off the charts good. I've been particularly impressed with this location. Jeff and Mark have both helped me on a couple of occasions and both were very good. They took the time to answer questions, take measurements, and make sure I had the right fit. I even received a hand written thank you note in the mail. I had an issue with my second pair of shoes (a small rip) and it was promptly taken care of. Great company. Great product. One of the few benefits of Austin's crazy growth to long-time residents is that we're now big enough for firms like Allen Edmonds to open shop here. I've been buying AE shoes for 30 years, during travel to larger cities or from their catalog. I still have the first pair I bought. They are more expensive to begin with, but the designs are classic and the quality and value are outstanding. Keep them in shoe trees, properly cleaned or brushed, and they may outlast you. I recently bought my first pair from their shop on Congress Ave and was pleased with the experience. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive. They seem more interested in making you comfortable in a good pair of shoes than rushing a sale. I've been wearing the same size for a long time, but the person who helped me had a good idea for a slight change in size that worked out well. Having a local shop also makes it easier to take advantage of AE's commitment to what they sell. They have a well-known refurbishment program, to resole and generally spruce up an older pair of shoes for a reasonable charge. Even before that, however, they stand by their quality promise. I brought in a pair of AE boots I got a few years ago that had a lacing grommet come loose. They had been purchased elsewhere, but the Austin shop took them in, shipped them to the factory, fixed the grommet and mailed them back to me, free of charge. You will not get that kind of service anywhere else in Austin. Long term, you won't save money buying cheaper shoes. read more

I called Jeff this morning about shoes that I've been looking for, he took down details, and shoe was waiting for me when I walked into the store. Jeff was very professional, knowledgeable about the brand, and shoes that he was selling. He measured my feet, and recommended a couple of choices. And I never felt any pressure to buy, he just focussed on my experience. I was a bit intimidated by the brand, but Jeff made me feel at ease. I hope to be a long time customer at this store! My shoe size is 16A, and Allen Edmonds is one of the only companies that I know of who can offer me semi-custom dress shoes in something other than a D width. They are a bit pricey but, if taken care of properly, they can last decades - I know this from experience. I purchased my most recent pair with the help of Marivel Uribe at this store on Congress near 5th. He helped me order up a certain pair, had them built, but when they arrived the fit was off. He didn't hesitate to send them back (no charge to me) and build up another pair with some adjustments. The revised pair are excellent. I will be an Allen Edmonds customer for life, and I am grateful for Mr. Uribe's patience and expertise in helping me find dress shoes that are not only beautiful but comfortable. read more

Went in yesterday while walking around downtown Austin. Moving here next month from Raleigh and we don't have an AE. Being that I wasn't buying I didn't expect much but the gentleman there was extremely helpful and sized me and was very knowledgeable explaining fit and styles and the company history. Once I move I will definitely be back to purchase a few pair. It's rare these days you get professionals and old school service at any store let alone a shoe store. Nice to see.
