Let's start with I from Brooklyn and I now live in South America. My need for cowboy boots started as a joke. I had a planned business's trip to Nashville and wanted to leave the Wild West/ south with a pair of cowboys boots. Essentially to be the gaucho negro in buenos aires. Gimmicky and silly I know for a grown man, but we have to get our kicks and giggles somewhere. Anyway, My trip ended up more business than pleasure, and I left Nashville without boots or a hat. "Fortunately" my trip was delayed in Houston due to wonderful airline on-time performance. I did a search, Cavenders appeared to be the consensus. After an hour, I walked away with a decent pair of tony Mahon black caiman square toe and a Cavenders straw hat. Shout out to my Mexican American sales girl who was just awesome. The boots looked nice, fit ended up being a little loose, and once home, they did not quite meet my expectations. So I did a search on eBay, and encountered that Forbes article (do you guys have Forbes stock?). Anyway with my crappy skype connection I gots Janet H. On the line. She was absolutely fabulous. I explained that what I needed, she took pictures of the actual boots from her iphone and sent to me. We did this with about 5 pairs of boots. She did this knowing that I may not purchase for 3 months, when I was planning to be back in the states. Turns out I had an emergency trip to NYC later that week. Based on her great customer service and answering all my questions, setting my comfort level about sizing, even looking at my shoe/boot collection I me mailed her for size reference, I decided to pull the trigger. The boots arrived on time on the day she predicted. I went a bit more conservative, but I have to say overall the boots are a1, style, workmanship, color, and comfort. (Texas whiskey snip toe). They are only my second pair ever and my first pair lasted for 14 years before I decided that it might be time to get a new pair (I like to take things slow...) This place is awesome. Do you ever just walk into a place and know that you're not welcome? And you're so uncomfortable that you can't wait to get out? I really wanted to check out this store. Walked in and got such a cold reception. All around the store there are signs that say don't touch don't touch don't touch. I can understand why I don't want everybody grabbing all of them. But the whole vibe in the store was just cold and unwelcoming. Woman working there gave me such dirty looks I wondered if I was tracking dog poop or something (I wasn't). Such a relief to walk out. I own more boots than a person should. So far I have 4 pairs of Heritage boots. They are a beautiful boots, with a great sense of style. The owner is friendly, engaging and has a true appreciation for boots. I bought a pair of boots two days a go and walked in wearing my 23 year old Justin Anteater boots. We had a great time discussing how boots have changed and how to care for boots. Jerry was extremely attentive, engaging, and helpful. I was in and out in 20 minutes with a new pair of boots and off to lunch. I've been in many times and had no issues. I respect the please don't touch the boots policy and have never had an issue. I've always walked in, looked around at the boots in my size and virtually every time, I've been asked if I would like to see anything. Bottom line -- if you are respectful and genuine customer, you will have no issue and great service. I've been in the store a dozen times or so and received the same great service whether I bought a pair of boots that day or not. These boots are stylish, unique, and good quality. read more

Extremely easy purchasing experience and awesome products. I went to college at UT and was back in town to be in a friend's wedding. She welcomed us (her bridesmaids) to wear boots at the reception. The only pair I owned were not legit, and I knew that wasn't going to fly in Austin. I flew in two days before the wedding and went to Allen's with a friend, who recommended it to me. The place was a madhouse (it was a home game weekend coming up). A woman sort of helped me, but it was fairly obvious she was more interested in talking to my guy friend, leaving me mostly alone to wander up and down the aisle. I tried on quite a few pairs, but I simply didn't want to buy something that felt really generic and mass-produced for upwards of $600 (my limit). I left Allen's bootless. Frustrated, I turned to Yelp the next day and found all of these great reviews for Heritage. I found a style online that I loved - the classic Black Apache 16. Because of Yelp, I knew not to touch the boots when I walked in, but there were plenty of signs and I was helped almost immediately, so I don't think I would have done so anyway. 20 minutes later I was out of the store with my fantastic new boots, after a very friendly and straightforward session with one of the saleswomen. I love them. I got tons of compliments at the wedding reception and continue to get them back home in Washington, DC. Heritage, you rock. read more

Totally pricey--luckily, I was more window-shopping than anything else--but very fun to see. I came upon Heritage Boot by doing a search of the "best quality cowboy boot." Now that I have my first pair, I can't agree more that these are the "best (darn) boots you can buy!" After reading the fantastically written Forbes article about Heritage Boot, I visited the awesome Heritage Boot website (one of the best I've ever seen!). I flipped through the boot selection several times, zooming in and in awe of the detail. I narrowed down the pairs I loved most - there are so many beautiful ones to choose from! As I am a Michigander and do not have quick access to the Austin, TX store, I called the store on a Saturday morning and had the pleasure of speaking with Alie. She was so friendly and helpful! I told her about my feet and calves, and she helped me determine which boot would be best for me based on the ones I had narrowed down and her extensive knowledge of the fit. She spent nearly a half hour on the phone with me and I felt that she was fully engaged in my boot buying experience! Alie took time to kindly answer several questions as I had great curiosity and excitement about the company. Having received my first pair last night after only five days of waiting (I ordered them on a weekend, too!), I couldn't agree more that these are the best quality boots around. I wish Alie could have seen the smile on my face as I tried them on. A perfect fit! These boots are one of my favorite purchases for myself - they are a work of art and are so comfortable. Opening up the package was like Christmas - the box was packed beautifully with care. Alie included a handwritten message on a postcard, I received a bag and other HB goodies, and the boots are pristine! I am already saving for my next pair and cannot stop raving to my friends and family about how wonderful these boots are. Heritage Boot is my new favorite company based on the excellent customer service and quality of their boots! I can tell that these boots are made and sold with love and great care. The first time I walked into Heritage I was met with a variety of boots in all prices from $300. up. Some of them taking me back to the boots I originally fell in love with in the 50's and the red boots my Mom had from the 40's. I now have more than one pair and I love them all. Can't wait for the first week in Jan. when I will be back in Austin and I can fall in love with another pair. I am not one to write Yelp reviews but wanted to make sure that the fine folks at Heritage Boot get their due. Danielle was friendly, competent and incredibly knowledgeable. Although I could have spent all day in the store looking at the walls of exquisite boots, she had me sized and out the door with a new pair of Ranch Hands in about half an hour. In truth, I could have been out of the store in about ten minutes but got lost in conversation. The boots really are works of art and a huge value at their price point. Are they cheap? Not at all. But, with care and some simple maintenance, the shoes' construction looks as though they'll hold up for years. Not sure what all the fuss is about not touching the boots. Danielle and the other sales associate pulled each pair I was interested in and allowed me to try them on and get a feel for the properties of each type of leather without any delay. I am hard on my shoes and expect that I'll beat up my new boots right quick. However, I want to be the one to do that and don't need body oils, scratch marks and barbecue sauce from random customers expediting the process. Again, my thanks for a lovely experience. As a Texan that has lived on the East Coast for years, the boots are a wonderful way to remember home. I'll definitely be ordering a few more pairs. read more

If you're serious about serious boots, this is the place. These aren't boots for your inbred cousin, Maynard. These are impeccably designed, and masterfully crafted boots for the taste-conscious customer. Enjoy retro styled western wear that you can actually use day to day. The vintage brethren that inspired many of these designs are highly collectible, and therefore more suited to display. Wear these guilt free with no worries. While more pricey than regular old boring boots, the prices are VERY reasonable for anyone who knows anything about boutique quality western wear. Beyond that, the owners are super helpful and have a vast knowledge of their boots. This kind of knowledge only comes from years of obsessive passion. It's always more fun to buy things from someone who is passionate about what they do. They add the value of knowing that if they care this much, and have this much enthusiasm for what they are selling, then how could it be anything but the best? I've been to this store twice as a serious buyer and both times I had unpleasant experiences. The first time they told me "Don't touch the boots." Excuse me? I'm going to spend $600 on a pair of boots and I can't touch them. The second visit was yesterday and they made a big point that my small bottle of sparkling mineral water was not welcome. Having been to Texas a number of times and having picked up one or two (or three....) pairs of boots on my travels I figured that I had a pretty good idea of what makes a good pair of boots. On a previous trip to Austin I had seen (and picked up) a flyer for Heritage boots but just did not have the time to visit. However, having looked at the website when I got back to the UK I made a mental note to visit on my next trip. And I did. The shop is small, and therefore personal. This is not a big western wear supermarket (like the many which surround large towns on the freeways with parking for fifty), so if you want boots piled high and cheap - this is not the place. Heritage Boots IS the place however, if you want to 'enjoy' buying a pair of very high quality boots, that are just that little bit different. On entering I met Jerry, a man whom I warmed to immediately. Not a pushy salesman, not a belligerent teenager who is bored like in A&F, but an owner, crafter and ambassador of quality boots. Jerry talked to me about MY boots, showed me a couple of his favourites and very gently and subtly asked a couple of questions about what I liked; didn't like; wanted; aspired to; my size etc. Admittedly I had a few idea's and they were pretty vague but he just smiled and said "Why don't you try these...". The Ranch Hand boots that he passed me were just, well, cool. Jerry persuaded me to drop a size and when I slipped them on - I was sold. The total time Jerry took to chat about what I liked and hated - 10-15mins; the total time to try on what he suggested and be convinced that I wanted them - 20 seconds! If I had had more money, who knows what I would have spent in that shop. The boots range from subtle and cool - too as fancy as you want - check out the Bandido boots - they're my next ones. And I I will return to get them on my next trip to the U.S.! It's been about six months since I visited and my Heritage Boots have become my favourites. They're as comfortable today as the day I put them on in the shop. They have worn nicely too. I don't think there is much chance of these falling apart - even if I treat them roughly. Even if you don't think you need a (new) pair of boots - go in and spend some time with Jerry and Patti. It's worth it! read more

Heritage Boot is the greatest place I found in all of Austin for my cowboy boots. Not only is the selection plentiful, all the boots are handmade. The customer service oriented staff, Ali, assisted me could not have been more knowledgable or friendly. There is another "western boot" place (Allen's) up the street. Walked in before finalizing my purchase at Heritage and asked for a specific color boot and was told they had them and told me where to go. no service, at all...out the door for me back to Heritage. I know nothing about boots, nor can I afford a $300+ pair of boots, but if I did qualify for those two things I would totally shop here. I went in and talked to the owner about boots and he was very helpful explaining why fancy cowboy boots and motorcycles don't go together, although shark boots might be ok because they are super durable. The owner really cares about the boots as he makes them himself and cares about what happens to the boots after they walk out the door. He explains the care of the different leathers and colors on the boot and makes sure you have the right cleaning stuff before you leave. In summary, if you wants fancy boots from a local guy who's been making boots since the 70's, buy them here. If not, go to Shepler's and get crappy boots with no sense of customer service. read more

Heritage Boot is my favorite place to browse boots. It's the boots store that just feels like a boots store should feel. Quite a contrast to Cavender's Boot City . . . even Allens Boots down the street doesn't have the right feel to it. They have colorful boots, unusual-looking boots, and boots that just stand out from what regular boots look like. Even if I don't need a lot of color in my boots, I do appreciate the coolness. The white haired "gentleman" decided to curse at us after trying to take a photo of the boots and then attempted to kick us out after "assuming" we were not going to purchase. Never again will I buy boots from anywhere else. The quality and comfort of these boots far surpass anything else out there. The staff is incredibly helpful and the boots are incredibly unique. To the folks on here that complain about not being able to handle all the boots without assistance, you're not shopping at Walmart. These boots, while fairly priced, are expensive, and I'm sure that rule was put in place after they had folks handling them and probably scratching the leather, or doing something else to affect value. Also consider they probably see window shoppers all the time and know when you're truly going to buy something, or when you're just going to look and pull a "pretty woman" act when they ask you to stop. Yeah....sure you were going to buy a few pairs. I'm sure they made a BIG mistake by daring to ask you to respect their merchandise. Huge even. If you're looking to leave Texas with an authentic pair of hand made boots, (and quite possibly the only pair you'll ever need), and not just some run of the mill "nice" boots, definitely make Heritage Boots a destination point. The selection is incredible, from exotics such as shark, stingray and full quill/smooth ostrich to the most beautiful calf skin and water buffalo hides you'll ever see. These boots pay homage to the true boot styles of the turn of the century as well as current flair. The service is great and I ended up spending a good part of my afternoon with Allie and Rick who collectively have me obsessing over a pair of German calf skin boots that I can't wait to have on my feet. (Good thing they ship!) Allie and Rick are knowledgeable and friendly and really went out of their way for me. My wife and I loved our experience at Heritage Boot. As soon as we walked into Heritage, we realized that this was a different type of boot store. It's more of a boutique and definitely not one of the super-sized stores. But if you expect a boutique to be snobby and expensive, then be ready to be pleasantly surprised. It's apparent that Jerry (the owner) has done a great job in training the associates. Elexia, Janet & Emily all helped out. They took the time to walk us through the differences in each boot, from the skins and toe-types to parts of the boot and how to take care of them. We went in tried on some boots and left hoping to find another store with better quality boots, a place that felt less chaotic and was more individually focused. We went to Heritage boots. They had a wonderful selection of boots hand made in Mexico. The place is small and was quiet. Dedicated to quality and vintage inspired boots Heritage is very dedicated to excellent customer service. Jerry was a terrific help in explaining things from simply how to pull boots on, to their fit, style, types of leather used and how they are made. He provided great service. My wife and I stopped in in early December after reading about Heritage's fantastic boots in Forbes; we wound up walking out with 2 pairs - Brown Shark for me and Queen of Diamonds for the misses, Christmas presents to each other. The boots are top notch, supremely comfortable, and reasonably priced compared to bigger names like Old Gringo and Lucchese.
