We came here for lunch on a weekday and parking in the front was easy. I got the turmeric fish rice box ($10), spicy fermented pork (3 sticks for $6), and a bag of frozen yogurt ($1). The rice box was great! Fish was yummy and so was the rice with bits of crunchy stuff. Super flavorful. Veggies on the side were okay, but tasted a lot better with hoisin sauce and sriracha. I wasn't a fan of the pickled veggies. The spicy fermented pork was pretty tasty and reminded me a bit of Chinese sausage. It would be nice if they sold the sticks individually. The frozen yogurt was AWESOME! Even though I was super full after eating the rice box and some of the pork, I didn't feel gross at all while eating the frozen yogurt. Ordered their Vermecelli bowl with pork chop. Customers beware, it's not pork chop, chopped pork! The vermecelli could have used more cooking. My son ordered the spicy beef, there was barely meat in his bowl. The food took a while to come and it came in increments. By time I got my order, 2 out of 4 of my party has finished eating. I asked the server if they give military discount, the owner answered I don't have time for that . A simple No would have been fine. I don't expect all businesses to give any discount but it doesn't hurt to ask. Overall, the only good thing that came out of this dining experience is we had a nice server. I was very confused when I arrived, the inside pictures listed on yelp are not the same restaurant. It is inside of another restaurant called Bun Belly and when we asked to be seated it is online/takeout orders only. Please make sure you understand this before arriving. I tried the pork belly bao and the tumeric fish bun (vermicelli noodles). The pork belly bao was quite good and very tender. The tumeric fish was a little dry but overall the bun was quite refreshing. The sauce that came with it was spicy so I couldn't use a lot of it. Nice casual place to go for good food at affordable prices. They are more towards the lower end of the $$ price range since their items are $10 or less. You order and pickup at the counter. One of the owners was working the counter on Friday during lunch, he was helpful in explaining the dishes and suggesting some dishes that were good and popular. This is seriously my newest favorite place in Austin. When you walk in you're not too sure what to expect. It looks simple but clean. The menu has enough items so you can pick what you want without getting overwhelmed by the choices. The cashier is this girl who is always friendly and polite. The owner is generous and sometimes comes out to say hello or give out a free sample :). To break down the menu, they sell three types of food they sell here are bánh mìs, rice boxes, and (new) noodle soups. I've had the chicken rice box which is absolutely delicious. It comes with this fried rice type rice (not sure how it's made), pickled vegetables (cabbage?, carrots), and roasted vegetables (beets, brussel sprouts) that are so so good. It's served on the cutest metal tray. I've also had their pork belly bun which was yummy. Now their drinks :) if you want a blast to the past you gotta come here. I had their chrysanthemum tea here and it seriously reminded me of my childhood. It's served in a cute plastic bottle which I love. Dessert. Every time they come here they give us the most delicious frozen yogurt ice cream in a bag. It seems to be some street style ice cream. I like how generous they are in that they give it away for free. If you want to eat at a local business run by people who are friendly and obviously love food you have to try this place. I've been coming here since the day they opened and this place has never let me down. It's a regular lunch spot for me. I've seen their menu expand since opening day and everything I've tried has always been great! I've brought visiting coworkers here and in return visits to Austin they always ask about going here again. I don't remember how I found this place. I think I was looking at some yelper's page and saw this bookmarked and it looked really good so I bookmarked it too. Service here is friendly and very helpful. The space is limited, but it's not cramped. Parking is limited to a few spots and there is street parking available as well. TURMERIC FISH RICE BOX- served with leek and garlic rice I was told this was the most popular dish so I had to order it. First off, the presentation was beautiful and so inviting. The fish was bright orange and it really captures your attention. The flavor of the fish was lightly seasoned and fresh. I was expecting a little kick from the turmeric, but there wasn't much of it. I liked eating the roasted veggies. The carrots were really sweet and I liked the addition of the pickled cabbage and jalapeños. What I didn't like about this dish was the rice. It was hard and so dry. I didn't taste any garlic in it at all. LEMONGRASS BEEF RICE BOX- served with leek and garlic rice I was disappointed with this dish. The beef didn't really have a lemongrass flavor. I could smell it slightly, but I was expecting an overpowering spice of lemongrass, but it was lacking it. The beef wasn't tender, but chewy and tough. I also had the same problem with the rice in this dish. It was dry and hard to chew. I did like the side veggies, but that was the only thing I liked about this dish. It sounded good on paper, but execution was lacking. Overall, nothing spectacular. Decent banh mi, bao was average and a bit overpriced. I visited Heo on a Saturday night and there wasn't any wait, as the place was empty except for two tables. Parking, as a result, wasn't too bad, but there's only a couple spots out front. I believe there's parking in the back though. Food came out pretty quickly, maybe like max five minutes. The pork belly bao came out first and it was ok. The bottom side of the bao was pretty soggy, which was unfortunate. The pork, vegetables, and sauce however were pretty good. I would say it's worth $3 or maybe $3.50, but not $4. Minus one star for soggy bun, another star for the price. Pork belly bao: 3/5 stars I also ordered the lemongrass beef banh mi. Overall, it was a great sandwich. The meat had a braised quality, definitely different than a traditional grilled banh mi. Lemongrass flavor was present but not strong, so be aware if you're not a fan. I'm used to banh mi's with grilled meat and I found myself wanting that kind of taste, so I was a bit disappointed. But the meat was very tender. The bread was nice and crispy and toppings were excellent as well. I asked the Austin Reddit for small places to go eat today. I got many replies including one person suggesting Heo. I went with a large appetite and ordered a few things for my son and me. In total, we got two braised beef baos, lemongrass beef rice box, ribs rice box, and a turmeric fish bahn mi. It was all amazing!! The portions were good and the presentations were nice, too. It's worth noting (because it doesn't seem to be mentioned on the menu) that the raw vegetable salads with the rice boxes are tossed in what I think was a light vinegar dressing. It added another flavor layer that was surely to its benefit. On the drive home, my son was already texting a friend with his opinion about where we went. Every one should go. But watch out! It might be easy to miss if you're not looking out for it. I don't think they have a sign facing oncoming traffic. Five stars. read more

Some might think the spice is a bit strong but I loved it! It has that orange and ginger flavor which worked really well especially with the grilled vegetables. The entree actually comes sticky rice rather than just plain white rice which to me is a plus! The lemongrass beef banh mi was a thumbs down. The beef was not seasoned or cooked well. Duuuuuude!! I love Vietnamese food, but I also love health food. So this is my new favorite spot for both mixed together. I love the rice plates - they come with sides like roasted vegetables and a home made Asian pickled cabbage/carrot/jalapeño dish. The rice is not your average flavorless white, but an aromatic short (almost round) grain with a little scallion sprinkled atop. The chicken is soft and succulent. This place has been on my radar for a while and I finally made it for lunch. I had to stop myself from ordering one of everything while I stood there staring at the menu and smelling the scents coming out of the kitchen. What I tried: Lemon grass beef bao bun-This was dripping with seasoning from the extremely tender beef, the bun was fluffy and this was one of my favorite items that I ordered. Cottage fries with siracha mayo sauce-My eyes lit up when I saw these on the menu because they aren't very common down here. I could have eaten two orders of these and been happy and the in house made mayo that is the base of the sauce is my jam. Lemon grass beef rice box-The portion size on this is huge for the price tag. The beef on it was really a 3 star item for me. The cooked vegetables were my favorite part of the plate and I don't know what that marinade is on them but, wow is all I have to say. The pork belly bao is a luxurious piece of braised pork belly in a chinese bun that is the equivalent of an asian taco. It's pretty decadent. The turmeric fish rice box is where it's at - silky soft fish coated in spices that just pop in your mouth. It's accompanied by some charred vegetables as well as some pickled veggies for contrasting flavors - it'll taste different pending on what you decide to pop in your mouth after or before or together - try it! The garlic rice that comes with it is really flavorful and is miles more exciting than the usual rice I expect from asian restaurants. Think like rice pilaf with a heavier sauteed garlic profile. I usually Iike putting Sriracha on everything but this dish didn't need any additions. It also came with a mix of pickled cabbage/carrot/jalapeno and a medley of roasted veggies. It was a very complete and satisfying meal. My one suggestion would be to serve the beef separately from the rice instead of directly over it, as the sauce made the rice a bit soggy. We also ordered the Vietnamese coffee. It was ok. I could be wrong, but it may not have used condensed milk; I tasted what seemed to be something more similar to whipping cream. Lemongrass beef rice box also pretty good, but relatively small serving ($10). Where it all went wrong was the duck confit banh mi. When it comes to duck, I'm its biggest fan, quack quack. This particular banh mi, which seems to be their creative interpretation, was so hot (temperature wise) that I badly burned my mouth. And I'm not five years old, I know to take care when biting into hot food. By time I let it cool, it was entirely inedible, as the bread had dissolved. They really need to re-think this. read more

Similar to the first time I came, that time the food was prepared, packaged, and labeled which I then just grabbed and left, no problem. But this time there was nobody there and no food ready. I came next door to Bun Belly and told them I had an order from Heo Eatery for pickup which they did get my order and I waited for my food to be made. I had ordered some drinks from the website which then they told me they couldn't make the drinks because the equipments were next door(?) and they would refund the amount back to me, which I never got..
