tried this place with my family. i genuinely liked the food that i ordered. the place was cozy. service was ok. while eating and seeing other customers leave some dishes were left sitting on the table right next to us for a good while. it wasn't really busy. other than that i liked the food i ordered.

Hidden gem Filipino restaurant. We ordered the tosilog and beef pares. Beef pares had a tender beef and tasty sauce. Tosilog: tocino, egg and garlic rice was yummy. They have a chili sauce that was spicy and tasty at the same time. Will purchase a bottle next time. Service was good.

Quaint Filipino joint with delicious homemade tasting food. Their sisig is the best sisig I've had in the states - not too much mayo (which I prefer), and crunchy and fresh tasting. Their longanisa was delicious and tasted homemade. Garlic rice was flavorful. I definitely will come back and try more of their menu.

Service was great, decent Filipino food. A little pricey for the pares overload (~$21) for some lechon kawali, 1 lumpia, 1 chicharon bulaklak, 1 bone marrow, and 1 deep fried shumai. The beef bone broth lacked some depth in flavor and was kind of average and tasted bland. The beef pares was very delicious and flavorful. The garlic fried rice was ok too. We also ordered halo halo which was (~$10), pretty good too! Noticed the restaurant had a sanitation score of B, so I hope their back kitchen is clean. Overall, a little pricey in my opinion but everything is expensive now so what can we do Pares Overload: 7.5/10 Halo Halo: 8/10

The food was great. The service is very good; attentive and friendly. The place is simple but clean.

TLDR: A Filipino restaurant that's hard to beat. You get the archipelago's classics at a respectable price. The food is great in certain areas and good in the areas that matter less. Eat in moderation, as their specialties tend to be unhealthy. Sisig: It's a Manila style sisig so I'm not gonna trash it for having mayonnaise, because that's how Manila generally makes their sisig. You get the salty flavors of the sisig, you get the crunchy exterior and the chewy interior of the pork, and the egg was fried but still runny. Although I would have preferred a raw egg and the dish be served on a sizzling plate, I don't oppose what they did. Pares overload: - Pares: It's very good. I don't know any pares places in OC/LA county, but this one is the best so far. The beef chunks that you get are very tender. The sauce was the perfect color and it was the right thickness, and it wasn't overpowering. Beautifully done. - Bone Marrow: I get a decent amount of this, so I'm not gonna complain. It's bone meat, but it's essentially fat. If you love the taste of fat then you'll surely love this. Mix it with the rice :) - Lechon Kawali: Friend pork belly was pretty good. The skin was crispy and the meat was relatively juicy even though it's probably not freshly made. The meat to fat ratio was very good and it wasn't overpowering. - Lumpia: I was disappointed because it wasn't good / it could've been much better. This is definitely a point of improvement in terms of taste. Maybe they could change the blend, but the size and crispiness were good. - Chicharon bulaklak: It's deep fried pork fat. If you like the taste of fat that was introduced to intense heat, you'll like this. If you don't, give it to someone who does or ask for a swap into something else. - Siomai: I don't know if this is homemade but I didn't like this as well. If it's homemade, change the blend. If it's store bought, buy a different siomai to deep fry. - Soup: It's fine. It provides a good break from all the intense flavors of the pares overload. - Garlic Rice: It's waaaaaaaaay too salty and tastes too burnt. I should've gotten the plain rice. Ambiance: It's a nice, humble restaurant that played old Filipino news, about a year old by my estimate. I liked the vibe of the restaurant, but I would seriously play something more dated in the TV. Service: It was good. It's obviously a family-run business, and the service was good.

This rating is for to go food: Sorry no photos for others. Siomai and the sisig tasted like street food siomai from Manila which for me tasted like home so I liked them. Their chicharon bulaklak was also pretty good but not providing vinegar was a bit of a minus points. Longsilog my brother said it tasted homemade which is a good thing. I must say though, their halo halo was top tier. One of the best halo halo I have had and I have had a lot here and in the Philippines. Sorry photo of it as I was too excited. Will definitely come in person!

This place is located right off the 10 freeway, Vincent exit. It is in a small parking lot shared with multiple stores so it may be hard to find parking. Luckily, we came by on a weekday where a spot quickly opened. There are about 8 tables for plenty of indoor seating. The place looks clean with a home-y feel. Our waiter quickly greeted us and brought drinks over. We ordered the beef pares overload, shu mai, Shanghai lumpia, and tapsilog breakfast. The Shanghai was wrapped well, tasted delicious, made with plenty of meat and cooked perfectly. The tapa is worth coming back for again and again. Great flavor, not too sweet or salty, and super tender. It was paired with an egg and garlic rice. The shu mai was also really good but came out slightly cold in the center so perhaps previously cooked or frozen. Lastly was the pares. It was really good but could use a dash more flavor. Maybe salt or soy sauce. Overall, good experience, good prices, and delicious food.

I'm ... so happy. Helen's Kitchen is affordable luxury. Rich in flavors, depth, and authenticity. I often eat filipino food, but Helen's Kitchen offers something unique. It's freshly cooked ingredients delivered with culinary talent. I brought my family to Helen's Kitchen (Sunday, 11AM). Our waiter (Floyd) charmed everyone as he spoke in Tagalog and explained the dishes. Floyd is quick, hard working, and helpful. My family ordered six dishes yet the food arrived quickly (about 10 minutes) and hot. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, but I will focus on the Beef Pares ($13) with Overload Upgrade (additional $8). The dish is exemplary! The Beef Pares is reminiscent of beef stew. The meat is tender and juicy. Its thick broth is flavorful and well seasoned. When combined with the garlic rice, the flavor blossoms. It's hearty and savory. The Overload Upgrade adds more food. It's a tour of planned textures and comforting flavors. The lumpia is lightly crisp and filled with meat. The siomai is firm and moist. The lechon kawali is cooked expertly; crunchy skin and tender middle. The bone marrow is soft and flavorful. The chicharon is airy and crunchy. I must reiterate how Helen's Kitchen is unique and flavorful. My family is from the Philippines, and they devoured it. The food is high-quality and fresh which is humbling since Helen's Kitchen is hidden. A potential best in SGV. Helen's Kitchen won our hearts. We will return. Thank you to Floyd and the brilliant chef. Salamat Po!

This Filipino spot in West Covina specializes in pares. They have a small parking lot shared with a liquor store, right off of the 60 freeway. The space inside is small and cozy with a handful of tables and booths. I ordered their gulaman and calamansi juices for drinks, and their pares overload and tapsilog. The overload comes with fried siomai, lumpia, chicharron bulaklak, lechon kawali, and bone marrow. The pares itself comes with garlic rice and soup. The pares was delicious! One of the more authentic pares' I've had in SoCal. Their tapsilog is marinated well and comes with garlic rice and a fried egg. Service was nice and friendly.

Food was mediocre at best. Everything was on the bland side, I wish I had patis. The garlic rice could use less garlic.

We ordered the tipid package (included large pata, kare kare without oxtail, an appetizer, rice, and your choice of pancit bihon or pancit canton) and kenchi steak. We got lumpiang Shanghai (mini egg rolls with ground pork and shrimp) and a mix of bihon and canton. Most items serve three to four people, so come with a hungry party and prepare to take leftovers home. The crispy pata (a deep-fried pork knuckle) had a lot of flavorful and juicy meat. While this dish is inherently fatty, there is still meat to cut off. The kare kare (beef chunks, tripe, and vegetables with a braised peanut gravy) tasted good. The rich flavor was also influenced by vegetables, such as eggplants and long beans. Some of the beef chunks were a little fatty. The lumpiang Shanghai arrived late into our lunch because we had to follow up with our server. While they currently charge $23 just for this appetizer, the portion size was much too small. It seems that with this specific package, you'd get a smaller appetizer portion. The bihon (thin rice noodles) and canton (thick egg noodles) pancit mix tasted adequate, and we had no complaints. I enjoyed the kenchi steak the most. This dish is beef shin topped with bone marrow served on a sizzling plate with gravy and vegetables. The beef had a thick texture, and the potatoes tasted soft and lovely. It was filling and noticeably better than the items in the tipid package in my opinion. Lastly, even though we visited around noon, they unfortunately didn't have halo-halo (a Filipino milky shaved ice with fruits and preserves) available as a dessert. At the end of the day, this is a solid restaurant with large portions and well-seasoned flavors. I definitely see why it's a family favorite for many.

It tasted like a "healthy" version of Filipino food. Still, my 83 year old Filipino Grandmother (who's now averse to too much seasoning) genuinely enjoyed this modern interpretation of pansit. I arrived at Almuchow (West Covina) on Sunday (around 3:16PM). Parking is easy. The lot is big. Surprisingly, Almuchow (West Covina) had taken over the old location of Bistro Filipino. Almuchow (West Covina) had relocated to this new spot in late December. Staff is very professional, welcoming and friendly. Staff works hard. I observed how Staff worked nonstop throughout my visit. My food took 14 minutes and five seconds. Good time! As mentioned, the Longsilog ($15) and Pansit Mix ($16) appears beautiful. Although it lacks the usual saltiness & oiliness of traditional Filipino food, it felt health conscious with comforting textures. The ingredients tasted clean. The Longsilog's sausage had the familiar sweetness of the Longanisa, but it felt more comparable to a meatball/meatloaf version. The Pansit also had the wetness and length of the usual dish, but it tasted muted. Still, the food felt well-intentioned and filling. Regarding ambiance, Almuchow (West Covina) is spacious, clean, and welcoming. I appreciated how Filipino music played on its speakers. The flat screen TVs even showed filipino musicians. There's also plenty of tables and a gender neutral restroom. Overall, I had a good experience at Almuchow (West Covina). The food is a good option for customers looking for a modern twist on filipino classics. If curious and nearby, it's a decent option. 4.5 out of 5

We ordered about 6 dishes --Pork Sinigang, Adobong Pusit, Bihon Guisado, Garlic Rice, Plain Rice, Crispy Pata , Ube Turon. When the orders came, the rice was so little, what they said was good for 2 people is actually only good for one. We asked for ice. They said they had none. not a big deal but honestly ice is a very important thing to have. There were no condiments on the table (patis , toyo, suka) etc which is common place in Filipino eateries. Around 6:30 we were being asked to finish our meal because they were "closing". Did they forget we ordered a bunch of stuff. If they are worried about their closing time, rhen please dont accept people an hour and a half before closing as you guys kmow Filipino food is not burgers and fries . You eat w little bit of everything slowly , its a cultural thing. We were again told two more times to hurry eating as they were closing. I was so shocked i coulf barely believe this kind of treatment. As a former caterer and hotel manager, we have never kicked anyone out of any establishment when they are still eating. You shut the door, you stop taking in customers but you always let the people still eating inside finish their meal, even if you had to stay behind for a bit. Another reason i took my best friend to dine rhere is because we were both so hungry and we dont do any cooking in our homes. My best friend paid for the meal --almost $150 , we decided against leaving a tip because the service was poor. The people working in the front had a less than acceptable demeanor, rushing us out of there we couldnt even finish eating. All in all, i felt embarassed in front of my best friend who treated me to the meal, when i had done nothing but brag about this place and their food non stop. I wpuld have loved to have had a conversation wirh Ms Nova Mendoza herself in person to compliment her on the amazing food but also to tell her that the staff needed further training im hospitality, customer care, and soft skills , it is their behavior and conduct which will bring this restaurant down. The server tried to say they just cooked it, like who are you even trying to convince that this cold fish is freshly made?! I was also told that they prioritize take out orders over dine in despite arriving at 11am when they opened, so keep that in mind if you want to try this place. It's a large-ish space, and I guess kind of like a sit-down place (not "turo-turo/cafeteria style like some Filipino joints), with a ton of Filipino snacks on the counter. Plenty of seats that have seen better days. A portion of the restaurant is covered in plastic to house some construction equipment ? I asked for the pork sisig ala carte and decided to add an order of kalderetang kambing and 2c of rice. Big mistake buying more than one entree when you are taking it home and have no clue how their food tastes. I trusted Yelp too much. . Sisig had a 1:1 ratio of meat to bell peppers. I also couldn't help but feel lile the peppers were undercooked, even raw. Maybe that was their style, but I also disliked the mayo on top. Now the kalderetang kambing had a strange fishy (gamey) smell in the car. When I tried it at home, the meat looked so red and tasted way too sweet, not at all like the Kalderetas I'm used to back home. The meat was falling off the bone soft though. This is my problem with Filipino restaurants in the US - if they can't make dishes better tasting than what I make at home (i rarely cook but im a good eater), I cannot rate them high at all. I've eaten too much Filipino food in my life to know what tastes good. I feel bad because the folks who work here/(owners?) are pretty nice and they were working on Valentines. But the current rating they have is misleading. If you're going for the big entrees like I did, and are used to Gerry's Grill type sisig, prepare to be disappointed. Yelp, you did not come thru for me this time.

Service was attentive and vibes were very casual- definitely lives up to the filipino street food experience. The perfect place for a nice casual yap session with friends. You start by grabbing an aluminum tray and choosing from a wide selection of skewers- all priced at just $1.50 each, which makes it an affordable place. Once you've made your picks, you pay at the counter and they'll grill everything for you. There are also a few sauces up front to customize your flavors. The grilled skewers are served in your tray, and you're ready to dig in. Some of my favorites were the quail eggs, chicken heart, pork BBQ, chicken BBQ, pork ear, and fish tofu. I also loved the palamig served in those classic street-vendor-style containers, which is super nostalgic of the Philippines. I went with the melon flavor, and it was just right and not too sweet. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!
