Cookies and cream
James L.

Felt like a roll ice cream after seeing it on YouTube recently. This is one of the few places within a reasonable distance from home. It's located in a plaza off Lake Dr. next to an Edward's theater. We came on a weekend afternoon and the place was empty. There are some counter seating against the wall under some Edison string lights (which should be dusted by the way) There's a kiosk you can take credit card or Apple Pay, so orders have to be placed there too. The order took about 2 minutes to make. It's creamy, richer and firmer than store bought or scooped ice cream. Good taste and texture, but because of the roll gimmick, it's pricier than other places. At nearly $10. per order, it's not something I would get often, but fun for kids to watch and try.

Nutella with strawberry, banana, kit kat, with less whipped cream

My daughter and I were craving ice cream after we watched a movie at Edward Regal Cinema. It was one of those hot days. Ice cream Chef is located near the cinema which is ideal. The shop has both indoor and outdoor seating. It is very clean and has casual vibes. Their ice cream is a gourmet rolled type. You can customize your ice cream by choosing your base, fillers, and adding your favorite fruit or toppings. They have many great flavors. We chose the following: - Cookies & Cream with fresh banana and less whipped cream. It was rich and creamy, and very artistic. - Nutella with strawberry, banana, chocolate syrup and kitkat with less whipped cream It was artistic, colorful, rich and really delicious. The staff were very welcoming and sweet. We had a great experience at Ice Cream Chef. I will be back to try more flavors.

We came late for dessert, the store was almost closed. The staff was nice, and the rolled ice cream was so good. A must-try!

Rolled ice cream is hard to find nowadays and I'm glad there's a gem in the neighborhood. The flavor options are on the minimal side and so are the toppings, but they did a great job nailing the texture and flavor of the actual ice cream. It was super creamy, thick, and not too sweet. Service was quick and friendly. There are a couple of bar tops you can sit on inside to eat your sweet treat. I would return to try their other flavors.

Came here last December. This is located in the same plaza as the movie theaters. I love that they have the half and half option available. The ice cream takes about four minutes of preparation since they make it as you order. It's pretty cool to see how they make/mix them. I got the chocolate milk and vanilla milk. The flavors are good and tastes authentic. I can definitely feel the difference in texture since they mix and roll it up this way. It's not light and fluffy like regular ice cream. This is dense and packed in a good way. My mom got the taro and vanilla and she liked it. It's a bit pricey in my opinion, but I feel like most ice cream places are in this price range nowadays. I wish they have more flavors to choose from. If I'm in the area, I would consider trying it again.

Ice cream is always on point here! Definitely one of our favorite places. Just wish they had more inside seating

This was my first time trying rolled ice cream and I liked it! I really liked the difference in texture compared to scoops. The strawberry flavor tasted so fresh. I felt like it was a little too much ice cream for me but other than that, I had a great experience and wouldn't mind coming again.

Taro Ice Cream Rolls

Came in on a hot Saturday afternoon for some ice cream rolls. Place was nice and cool inside and the young man working the counter was very nice and asked if we had any questions. Got the Fresas con crema rolls and the Taro rolls. Both came out quick and hit the spot, especially on a 98° day!

First time here since it was hot out and my daughter was craving rolled ice cream. Saw on Yelp their menu had happy hour specials but apparently I didn't get that discount even though I came in before 4pm... Ice cream was good but pricy for the amount they give. (Smaller amount, compared to the other pics I see on Yelp..) (I could've went for acai bowl instead...) It was empty inside w one worker and a couple eating inside. Place was clean and plenty of seats Overall, it was an okay experience. I wouldn't come back.

Nutella ice cream with whipped cream, banana, strawberries, Nutella, and wafers

Ordered one of their "Chef's Specials" since all the photos looked so enticing. You can order either at the separate kiosk on the wall or at the front register with the worker. My bf chose the "Nutella" ice cream which has a dash of whipped cream, banana slices, strawberry slices, drizzle of nutella, and a wafer stick. I would've liked to have seen a few more slices of the fruit rather than just 3 slices. Nonetheless, it was still delicious! The young guy working behind the counter was kind and inviting. There's glass so you can see them working on the ice cream and rolling it up. We were the only customers in there so our cup came out quickly. Rolled ice cream is always such a fun dessert! The inside is also really cute with fun, fresh modern vibes. Letters on the wall to move around string of light bulbs, and mirrors with quotes on them. Love the ambiance in here.

Yo! Yall have got to come check this place out!! I ordered the strawberry one, and Oreo one. Both were super good! You cannot go wrong! I will definitely be trying to get the other flavors! So come check them out! And Enjoy!!

I honestly thought I wrote a review already, pardon my lapse in memory. Had the pleasure of trying their rolled ice cream and was excited to have a place for cold sweet treat mear the movie theater. Then Covid struck, lots of places closed and some didn't recover. It was great that they re-opened in April 2021. I won a year's worth of ice cream (one a month) playing their roulette. As if I needed more incentive to get ice cream. I've tasted their rocky road, s'mores, horchata, and, taro ice cream. Of course I like the rocky road the best. It's fun to watch how they mix and nudge the liquid cream on the cold slab until finally they roll the ice cream and slowly assemble them into a cup. When you choose from one of the Chef's Specials, the topping are already set. Otherwise you can make it your own by choosing your own base flavor for the cream and whatever toppings you like.

Rocky Road ! Super good , for sure coming back again has great taste , kids love it .

This is like a hamburger stand telling you they don't have a grill to make a burger. Also, out of boba on a Tuesday (off night??) Stock up. Who's doing inventory? I was more angry at the fact that they let over 30 minutes go by and didn't tell me via email or phone call that the blender was down. I would canceled my order and promptly received a refund... i hope. I wasn't offered any kind of remedy. No partial refund, no refund, no extra drinks. Just your kinda outta luck. We don't have the proper tools to make you a drink. I will never return here again. I used to like this place and even used to come here when they offered 3 drinks for the price of 2. They let me know all the different desserts and options. They also explained pricing and availability to me. They showed me all the different toppings that they have for not just ice cream and sundaes, but crêpes as well. Considering I walked in here, thinking that this was strictly an ice cream place, they have a very large menu. One thing that I remember very fondly about my visit here was not that there were a lot of people here, but the people that were dining in, they were mostly families with children. That may not seem like an important thing, but to me, seeing that is precious More often than not, you see children, their parents, and even their parents parents. So sometimes you get a small group of people, but really you have three generations. Quality time like that is absolutely precious and to see them so engaged in conversation with one another and laughing the entire time and sharing dessert, that was so awesome. Sharing ice cream with my dad at an ice cream parlor near our home is a very fond memory for me. So I guess that's why I paid attention to this while we died at scoop Street. When I took a moment to take a step back and look at our little family, we also were there in our lil three generational group: me, my kiddo & my Mom. The prices here are more than reasonable. The ice cream that is used for their desserts is from thrifty. The waffle cones are made in house and smell amazing. There really wasn't anything more than I could've asked of this visit to the ice cream shop. This was so special. Servers: Art & Austin

Friendly young staff but service was slow and inattentive. They primarily serve Thrifty Ice Cream, a classic Southern California brand. The shop's main draw is the funnel cake. The Churro-Chata, topped with horchata ice cream and mini churros is our favorite. Portions are big and shareable. The lady that was taking the orders was hard to understand. She handed me a disheveled piece of paper and I pointed out an ice cream cone swirl with chocolate and vanilla, it was three dollars. I ask about chocolate dip she said yes six dollars. That seemed like quite a jump, but we want, what we want. I paid and ordered. What a mess! The cone did not come dipped. It looked like she scooped chocolate sauce on top and it ran down the cone everywhere. Also, because the chocolate was hot. The ice cream also was melting all the way down the cone. She quickly wrapped two napkins around it and handed it to me. I am telling you, it was a disaster. I asked for more napkins and she handed me one more. It was leaking so bad, that made it almost inedible. I did my best to eat around and control the mess. The chocolate was horrible tasting and clumped everywhere. I got up and threw it in the trash. Went back to the window, but she was nowhere to be found. After I got into my car to pull away, I noticed she was in a little side room sitting at a table. This really is unfortunate. The gelato is velvety & soft with prominent flavor profiles. It's tasty. (Important Note: Bring cash. Card has a small additional fee, about 3.5% extra. Also, there's no flavor sampling.) I arrived at Il Gusto (West Covina) on Monday (around 7:29pm). This location shares the busy parking plaza by 85 Degrees (West Covina). Fortunately, it was easy to find parking this evening. Staff is professional and helpful. Staff worked quickly, and staff answered all my questions. Line went very fast despite a group being ahead of me. As mentioned, I ordered the Medium Cup (2 Scoops - $8). I selected a milk chocolate scoop and a cookies-flavored scoop. Portion sizes are fair and adequate for its quality. The flavors are delicious. The milk chocolate scoop reminded me of rich, dark chocolate milk. Its consistency felt very velvety, and its strong chocolate flavor almost teetered towards chocolate brownie territory. The cookie-flavored scoop was very tasty as well. This scoop flowed smoothly, and I happily enjoyed the soft cookie chunks within. This had a milder taste, but it felt very satisfying. This gelato was not icy; rather, it had delightful flavors while flowing like chilled silk. Concerning ambiance, Il Gusto (West Covina) shows genuine effort. The location is very clean and well-ventilated (refreshingly chill). I also enjoyed the Elvis Presley music. However, the music was occasionally drowned out from the loud electronic buzzing/humming sounds from the kitchen's containers. Also, some portions of the walls and floors looked scuffed with black marks. Il Gusto (West Covina) is also fairly small. It has three reflective tables inside; customer-only restroom; and three nearby shaded tables outside. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Il Gusto (West Covina). Its prices are adequate, the gelato is a good quality, and the staff is hardworking & helpful. If nearby, I recommend. 4.6 out of 5
