38. Seafood Pan Fried Noodle
Phil L.

Love this location. It's so spacious, and clean! It's located in the Haven City plaza that offers plenty of parking. I've been to other locations before, but I like the fact that this one isn't too busy at time. The waitress that helped us is very friendly, and the food here is delicious & plentiful. Pictured are the Seafood Chow Mein, the Fish Dumplings, and the fried fish with seaweed.

I'm amazed that this place not packed yet, food is flavorful and waitresses here are much much nicer than others. This spot is newest I think but taste wise is better than the rest. And since not many people knew yet there is no waiting lines. Good luck guys see you next time

French Style Beef Tenderloin

Solid Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant and I'm really glad they expanded into this area. It's a great addition to the neighborhood. Just a heads up -- parking can be tricky depending on the day and time since it's in the same plaza as Haven City Market, which gets pretty busy. The restaurant itself is spacious and can easily accommodate larger parties, which makes it a great option for group dinners or family-style meals. I've been here multiple times and have a few go-to dishes: the Beef Udon, Thai Seafood Fried Rice, French Style Beef Tenderloin, Pork Chop with Spicy Salt, and the Fish with Seaweed. All are consistently flavorful and generously portioned. The French Style Beef Tenderloin and Pork Chop with Spicy Salt are especially satisfying if you're craving something savory and hearty. I've also tried the Beef Noodle Soup -- the broth had tons of flavor and depth, but the meat wasn't as tender as I would've liked. Still enjoyable, just not my favorite on the menu. Overall, this is a great choice for Chinese food in the area. Good variety and perfect for sharing with a group. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.

We had a great lunch at Mama Lu's West Covina. My parents and my wife had a delicious family luncheon. Mama Lu's right next to Krua Thai. Parking can be a challenge pending the time of day as it's in the Haven City complex. This location is extremely nice. They keep it noticeably clean. We are familiar with Mama Lu's as we had gone to the Pasadena location before. The servers here very attentive the moment we walked in. It was not too crowded at all when we came in and they seated us at one the round tables in the middle. We came here mainly to try the Dumplings and some of the entrees. We ended up ordering: Shrimp Dumplings Shiu Mai Beef Wrap Seafood Pan Fried Noodle Corn and Egg Soup Sautéed String Beans Each of the entrees came out one after the other. The presentation and portions were massive. Each entrees looked abundant. The dumplings were big and I love the containers they were in. The beef roll was delicious and the pan fried noodles tremendous. My parents and wife had a great family lunch together. They were all happy with the food. Mama Lu's West Covina is a solid option for some dumplings and other traditional Taiwanese cuisine. Bring the family and bring the friends. Thanks, Mama Lu's! ( ^_^)b

My husband, his parents, and I ate here recently and it was a delight! My husband and I visited the Pasadena location a while back, and I remember the food being just as delicious. First thing we noticed was how spacious the restaurant is. It doesn't look like it would be looking from the outside. We also noticed their choice of design for the teacup, soup bowl, soup spoon, and plate set, versus the typical plain white dishes you see at other Chinese restaurants. Mama Lu's wants to stand out amongst the rest from start to finish. We ordered the Shiu Mai, Shrimp Dumpling (har gow), Seafood Pan Fried Noodle, Corn and Egg Soup, Sautéed String Beans, and Beef Wrap. They are generous with their portions and the food tasted better than I remembered. We couldn't keep our forks down and didn't have much to take home! The dishes I liked most were the shrimp dumpling and seafood pan-fried noodle. What I also liked besides the food was the customer service. Each food item was placed on the table carefully and each time the server checked on us. They'll also pack your leftovers for you while you pay for the check. Overall, this is a great spot for lunch with friends and family. Thank you, Mama Lu's, for the wonderful experience. We will be coming back!

Bought some vegetarian dumplings and they were very good! Skin was thin and full of a variety of veggies and noodles. Will come back again to try other dumplings. Place looks nice and service was good. I would come back for a date for this place. Parking is ample, but weekends are busy.

I normally order from Mama Lu's Dumpling House in Monterey Park, but I had already left the area. Luckily, they have a location in West Covina which is on my way home. Thanks Mama Lu's for being conveniently located at Hong Kong Plaza! Btw, they are in the same plaza as Haven City Market. I called in to place my order. Lady staff on the phone was pleasant. I got one Wonton Egg Noodles Soup and one West Lake Beef Soup. Both are my youngest daughter's favorites. She said both were delicious. Upon arrival, I got lucky with a parking spot right up front. My order was ready. Paid for my order. I was then on my merry way. They weren't super busy at the time. Lots of inside seating. Bright and clean interior. Atmosphere was welcoming. Next time I'll have to come for a dine-in experience. Thanks Mama Lu's!

Chinese family style dining is always my favorite ! I had: 1. Fish with seaweed 2. Fried pork bun 3. Honey garlic pork chop 4. Sauteed assorted vegetable 5. Beef wrap 6. Sauteed fish fried rice

I came here after visiting Haven City Market in the same plaza and saw that they have a grand opening soon. Once they opened, I came here with my mom to try their xiao long bao. The seating area is a good size for groups. They do have a good amount of staff. Lady came by with a small dish of fried peanuts and a kettle of jasmine tea. We chose to get their xiao long bao ($10.99), sauteed green beans ($16.50), Yang chow rice rice ($17.50), hot and sour soup ($13.25), and salt and pepper shrimp ($18.75). Portions are a good size and seasoned nicely. Not too salty, the xiao long bao was juicy and the dumpling skin was not too thick. The staff is nice and the place is clean. Parking can get packed. They have other sister branches near Rowland Heights, Arcadia, and Monterey Park.

Walked in and got seated right away. Service was great. The restaurant is spacious can accommodate a large party. The house noodles were delicious. The noodles were tasty and bouncy, great veggies and pork with it. The wings were delicious. The chili oil dumplings were good too. We recommend and would come back.

50. Indonesian Fried Rice and beef cubes
Michelle L.

Absolutely incredible experience! Every dish we ordered was packed with flavor and perfectly executed. The Indo fried rice was rich, aromatic, and had the perfect balance of spices. The beef roll wrap was fresh, savory, and so satisfying--definitely a must-order. The filet mignon beef cubes were the star of the night--super tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. And the soul dumplings? Next level. Flavorful, comforting, and you can tell they're made with care--honestly comparable to Din Tai Fung or Thumbling. On top of the amazing food, the service was friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. I'll definitely be coming back and bringing friends. Highly recommend! Only thing I'd love to see in the future is some lunch specials--this would easily become a regular weekday spot for me!

Tina T.

Mama Lu's never disappoints! The portions are always incredibly generous, and everything tastes super fresh and delicious every single time. We ordered the fried pork buns, fish with seaweed, salted fish chicken fried rice, beef wrap, sautéed assorted vegetables, and the honey garlic pork chop--and every dish hit the spot. The fried pork buns were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, the fried rice was packed with flavor, and the honey garlic pork chop was perfectly sweet and savory. You can really taste the quality and consistency in their cooking. Great service and spacious.

Fried pork buns

Mama Lu's has been around forever and back in the day, it was where you would go for hole-in-the-wall XLB. Nowadays, you can skip it. I probably won't eat here again because there are other Chinese restaurants that taste better and offer lunch specials. This place does not.n I don't know what happened, but it's just not it anymore. The XLB is okay, fried pork buns were tasteless, French beef cubes were delicious, sweet and sour pork was a no, and the gailan was pretty good. All this for $100 for a weekday lunch? It's worth it to try somewhere else. Sadly.

The menu is extensive, food comes out quickly and fresh, and workers are attentive even though you order through a tablet and it's super busy inside. Food is stellar and of value (6 XLB for $8!), portion sizes are good, and everything is piping hot! The soup dumplings have soo much soup IMO beating out Mama Lu's which is what I would consider to be their nearest competitor. The spicy shrimp wontons are also good, but I think the flavors don't quite hit as well - big pieces of shrimp are enclosed though! The Peppered Beef Udon was great the beef pieces were tender and juicy and great textured noodles. Onion pancakes are a staple along w/cucumber salad (not pictured) , and their pan fried pot stickers are my favorite along with the sauce it comes with. Sooo crispy. Pro tip: If you are a first timer/came from far and waited a while don't let them seat you at the bar the experience is not as nice by far (I saw someone say it's like paying to stare at a wall - I concur) Being seated at a booth or table will allow you the full experience but I do understand there's only a limited amount of room in the bustling place.

We ordered 5 dim sum dishes and spent a little over $30, which came with a free order of fried noodles -- more than enough food for lunch. The shrimp dumplings were just okay since the wrapper was a bit too thick. The chive dumplings were pan-fried with a crispy outside and flavorful filling -- definitely one of our favorites. The beef rice rolls were the best dish of the day: silky, flavorful, and perfectly made. They initially forgot our turnip cake, but when it arrived, I asked for it extra crispy and they absolutely delivered. Thick-cut pieces with a crispy exterior and soft center. The free chow fun was surprisingly good too, full of vegetables with great wok hei flavor. Everything tasted freshly made and steamed to order. Great value overall. The only downside was the service -- the server was a little slow and not very attentive. We tried to pay for at least 15 minutes before anyone noticed us. The food here is mediocre at best and the service is just awful. They make you feel like a burden and inconvenience right from the bat and refuse to acknowledge you. We were ordering with a waitress then she suddenly got frustrated when we tried to order the honey walnut shrimp and threw her hands in the air and called someone else over. The tall Asian guy who took our orders also made us seem like an inconvenience and even walked away in the middle of us ordering. He kept this same attitude throughout the whole time. My parents were excited for the 99 cent chicken deal they had and wanted to order more and the same guy refused to acknowledge their questions and ultimately told us it was 1 order per table. This is fine if that's their policy, but it was the way he was acting. He made us feel that we were cheap and stingy wanting to take advantage or get cheap eats. If you don't want people to order this cheap dish, don't have it on your menu or advertise it! Also, we ordered plenty of other foods. Beware because this place seems like they're scammy. I ordered a pot of rice and apparently they charge rice per person so regardless of how many people you have, you still get the same pot of rice but more expensive. This makes no sense even when I questioned them about it. When we tried to ask one of the cart ladies about ordering a football from the fried section, she gave us another item instead and when we opened it up, it wasn't what we wanted. They kept trying to push more items on our table to get our money even though we repeatedly said no. They also charge for sauce and didn't tell us. Another waitress (who we didn't even interact with throughout our time) chased me down trying to pressure me to tip more. I have no problem tipping, but when the service is like this, I am not going to leave a 20% tip like usual. I will say the kind busser here was exceptional and although he didnt speak English, he was so kind and honestly made my day. Everyone else here was rude and unwelcoming. The mediocre food here is not worth the outright disrespectful and terrible service.

From the outside, this place looked small, but as you come inside it opens up to a pretty spacious dining room with multiple small private party rooms. They have several round tables that can accommodate 8-10 people with a lazy Susan in the middle for convenience to get to your entrees. Their dim sum menu is pretty big with photos and a box to indicate the number of orders you'd like. They offer all the traditional items from Fish Roe Siu Mai, Shrimp Hargow, steamed spare ribs, chicken feet, steamed and baked Bao's and various dessert items such as egg tarts, fried sesame balls with red bean, and their popular pomelo, mango sago cold soup. Everything sounds like everything went well, but there were some issues that make you think about giving them a second visit. Everything we ordered tasted well and typical of most Dim Sum restaurants. What differs and I wonder if it was just today or if it's a regular thing is one, we ordered sodas, specifically Diet Coke or Coke Zero and the waiter said they didn't have Diet Coke or Coke Zero or regular coke for all that matters. He said they only have sprite. So that was strike one. Strike 2 came in the form of a sauce. We ordered fried crispy shrimp balls and egg rolls, we asked for sweet and sour dipping sauce, the waiter said they don't have sweet and sour sauce. What Chinese restaurant does not have sweet and sour sauce. I thought that would be as common as ketchup to a burger place. So strike 2. Fortunately there was no specific strike 3 because we know that the service at Chinese restaurants is not going to be the best. I credit that to probably their language barrier so it seems like they don't hear you or purposely ignore you. In Hacienda Heights and RowlandHeights area, there are dozens of Chinese restaurants and I'm sure many that serve dim sum, so before I give them a second chance, I'd probably rather give another place a chance to get our business.

We had to flag someone down to take our order which was on marked on the paper form. Then we had to flag someone else down to order a beer and several times to refill the teapot with water. One teapot, 5 people, it's going to empty fast. We had to ask for the bill TWICE and it wasn't busy at all by that time. We ordered 12 dishes between the 5 of us.
