Really enjoyed our brunch at Namu Kitchen in West Covina! We ordered the beef bulgogi over purple rice and the Jang-Jorim braised beef burrito, and both were delicious. The beef bulgogi was flavorful and came with purple rice and a nice variety of roasted vegetables. I especially liked the Brussels sprouts and how everything on the plate complemented the beef without feeling too heavy. The braised beef burrito was a fun Korean brunch twist and definitely worth trying. It's filled with tender braised beef brisket, scrambled egg, avocado, cheese, spicy aioli, potatoes, and vegetables. It was hearty, flavorful, and different from a typical breakfast burrito. EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS! Finally got to check out Namu Kitchen and it's just so lovely inside! You can tell the owners put a lot of thought and love and quality into their interior decor and seating. Thoughtful power plugs are against many tables so you can plug in a laptop or charge your phone. The air conditioner was on high thank God in this heat wave! This is hands down one of the best non LA brunch places around. I first discovered Namu from a deep dive into Yelp for an extraordinary place to take my girlfriend for the morning. I came across legitimate great reviews and pictures that back it up. For it being Korean, it definitely tickled my curiosity. The food and service held up to my expectations. I won't go into all the details about all the different items that I loved from the menu. If you're a first timer, just go with the Namu Plate. My favorite has always been the fried kale (kale chips) on that plate. I dream about it every couple of weeks. It's that good. That item alone should define what Namu Kitchen is all about. The service is great despite the fact that on busy days, they can be a bit understaffed. That has never bothered me just because I know they are a locally owned restaurant. We're all trying to make ends meet in this economy and that's okay! They work hard to bring you their best every single time. The vibe has always been welcoming. My mom and I came here on a Saturday around 12:30pm and they seemed to be at the height of their lunch rush! Nonetheless, the wait wasn't too long and we got seated quickly. Parking is relatively packed in this lot, but I'm sure you can find a spot if you circle enough times. We ordered their breakfast plate and jang-jorim burrito. I was pleasantly surprised by how large their portions were - the pictures on Yelp don't represent the size as well. We split the jang-jorim burrito and we could barely eat any of the breakfast plate as a result, so we took most of it home. Quality-wise, everything is super fresh and high-quality, nothing felt overly salty or oily. I liked that every plate comes with something extra and that it leans on the healthier side, whether it's salad or fruit. I also had one of their specialty lattes and it was so good. It's an incredibly spacious area with stable Wi-Fi and a great menu that I wish I tried more of. I ordered a strawberry Matcha latte and a Namu breakfast platter. Look at that spread! My favorite entrees are the namu plate, dweji gomtaeng, and the jjangjorim burrito. You can't go wrong with one of these options! The drinks are also well made! Another gem found. I haven't stopped thinking about the food here since I first had it last weekend lol. Namu Kitchen has been on my bookmarks for some time but I was putting it off because I was afraid the portions and quality wouldn't measure up to their prices but I was sooooo wrong. Their breakfast plates are absolutely ginormous and my friends admitted they're usually picky eaters but ate pretty much most/all things on their plates. I decided to go with the bulgogi sandwich based on our waiter's recommendation and it was amazing! So flavorful and the bread was great too. Their salad dressing was tangy and sweet. The brioche toast with homemade jam and ricotta was also better than I was anticipating. The main star for me was the chicken karaage. The pieces were huge but still so juicy inside.. and the batter was light yet very crispy. Paired well with their house garlic aioli. Only thing we all agreed was a miss was the mango cloud coconut matcha unfortunately :( didn't find it to have much flavor. Definitely interested in trying their hojicha or earl grey lattes next though! They also have free WiFi for guest and outlets on the side to charge devices. The ambiance was very calming and the restaurant was nicely decorated. I've had Namu Kitchen bookmarked for a while and finally made it in on a recent Monday for brunch. We were seated right away, and I was glad they gave us a larger table because everything on the menu looked tempting. The two of us shared the avocado toast, tofu and eggplant burrito, Korean pork soup Dwaeji Gomtang, and the braised beef brisket Jang Jorim over rice. My favorites were definitely the avocado toast and the Korean pork soup. The soup was incredibly comforting and flavorful, and it honestly felt like they used two whole avocados on the toast, it was also very aesthetic and perfect for photos. I don't eat spicy food, so I was a bit bummed that the tofu and eggplant burrito came with a spicy mayo sauce, but my husband had no trouble enjoying it. To be honest, I was already pretty full by the time the braised beef rice arrived, but it made excellent leftovers for another meal later. This beautiful restaurant was once a tofu soup place called Myung Dong. I love what they did with the space. It's both homey and gives boutique hotel vibes. I knew we were going to have a great time the moment we set foot in it. Their server was attentive without hovering. He made sure our water carafe was always full and that we were happy with our food. Speaking of food, their fried chicken must be the best Korean fried chicken in the SGV. Seriously. The chicken was juicy, ever so crispy (but didn't have too much breading), and even with the honey sauce drizzled on top, it didn't lose its structural integrity or get soggy. And the sauce wasn't cloyingly sweet. Just enough to provide a contrast to the chicken, and it had a hint of spice right at the end. The combination of that sauce with the chicken was perfect and lethal. We couldn't stop eating it. My son's French toast was phenomenal. Had Namu for lunch and now it's almost midnight and I still can't stop thinking about them. Went for coffee after multiple friends recommended them, knowing I'm an obsessive coffee snob. They were right, it's my new favorite cafe, on par with Aroma Craft (Walnut), Recaphe (Fountain Valley), and Stereoscope (Costa Mesa). Beautiful interiors and high quality coffee is my love language. Went in during a weekday and had an impressive brunch! Namu Kitchen has a good amount of interesting menu items and some great drinks that include coffee and other non-coffee beverages. They had a cool drink option in which you can create your own cloud latte. I ordered a cloud latte (base: hojicha, cloud top: black sesame). Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of it, but it was delicious and creamy! I would get it every day if I could! To eat, we ordered the jam & ricotta toast, the jang-jorim burrito, and the tofu & eggplant burrito. The toast consisted of a hefty and perfectly toasted piece of brioche with generous spreads of ricotta and a couple of different fruit jams. Beautifully garnished with a rosemary sprig, our kid loved this and it was yummy. The jang-jorim burrito was a Korean iteration of the breakfast burrito that SoCal knows and loves so dearly. Brisket, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and sautéed veggies were wrapped in a nicely toasted tortilla. The tofu & eggplant burrito was a wonderfully veggie-forward version of a breakfast burrito, and it came in a spinach tortilla (my fave!). Both burritos came with a side salad and a salsa verde that I wanted bottled to take home. I would highly recommend both, but I lean towards the tofu & eggplant! Staff spoke professionally and kindly; staff answered all my questions; staff quickly helped me when waved; and staff continuously worked hard in the background. I ordered the iced Hojicha Cafe Latte ($6.50) and the Jang-jorim Burrito ($16). The Hojicha Cafe Latte arrived in five minutes and 41 seconds. The Jang-Jorim Burrito arrived in 12 minutes and 17 seconds. Fast! The iced Hojicha Cafe Latte tasted of freshly prepared milk tea with espresso. Its caffeine felt faint, lacking a kick. However, its flavor was enjoyable. This beverage held a mellow, earthy, & milky tea flavor that was pleasant. The Jang-Jorim Burrito arrived huge with an accompanying salad. This Jang-Jorim Burrito consists of juicy braised beef brisket, generous avocado, stretchy cheese, scrambled egg, tater tots, and a few vegetables. The Jang-Jorim Burrito is a messy, flavor explosion that's very memorable. I recommend eating it with a fork and a knife since this "burrito" is more comparable to an overstuffed crêpe. While savoring the Jang-Jorim Burrito, the most prominent flavor was the juicy braised beef brisket. Its sauce dripped seductively across every crevice as it dribbled everywhere. Next, its fresh & bright avocado shun loudly. If I had to nitpick, the scrambled eggs in this burrito tasted very bland and mushy. Thankfully, the Jang-Jorim Burrito made me mostly think of meat, avocado, and cheese. Shockingly, this meal was not greasy. The ingredients tasted very fresh, so the dish brought an unexpected lightness. Regarding ambiance, Namu Kitchen (West Covina) is gorgeous. The location is very well-maintained, and each corner looked picturesque. Namu Kitchen (West Covina) also felt very clean, well-ventilated (almost chilly), and shiny. Unlike its ugly and plain exterior, the interior sparkles like an upscale fancy restaurant. What's incredibly insane (and almost insulting), is that the location is littered with many, many electrical outlets for electronic devices. It's helpful but absurd. It's like adding electronic sockets in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant to attract extra customers. Namu Kitchen (West Covina) even offers free wifi with password to guests. I guess their clientele are college students that enjoy fine dining? Absolutely baffling. Overall, Namu Kitchen (West Covina) enchanted me. It's a place built with passion and special brunch options. I used to dismiss Namu every time i would pass by during my hanger fueled walks to the food hall. However, last Sunday, it was the only place open before 11am so we decided to give it a try. It's located w/in the Hong Kong Plaza across from the buffet. I suggest arriving early like we did, otherwise finding parking becomes a headache and Namu get appropriately busy. The space is airy, bright & decorated w/ lots of soothing neutral colors w/ pops of green from plants. the music is relaxing & the staff is attentive, friendly and took the time to answer our questions no matter how busy they got. Unless you LOVE a specific dish here, i recommend sharing plates. We ordered: Honey yuzu tea: drank hot. it was sweet & comforting. i ate the lemon bits left at the bottom of the cup Pour over: waitress brought cards over for the coffee bean options. bf opted for their organic "concepcion huista" from Huehuetenango, Guatemala. it was delicious, not bitter at all despite drinking it black Avo Toast: millennial staple lolz they were generous w/ the slices of fresh creamy avo & the pistachio added a nice texture. the beet ricotta spread didn't stand out flavor wise but i loved how the color popped on the plate. the arugula salad was ok, dressing was light...took a few bites than skipped the salad so i could save room for the mains. will skip this next time to try the mushroom toast instead. Chicken Karaage: MUST ORDER Japanese style fried chicken. Namu has their recipe perfected: crunchy, moist and had the right amount of sauce and spice to it. I ate mine w/ their kimchi from the dish below and wow! perfect bites Dweji Gomtang (Korean Pork Soup): worth ordering! Rightfully classified on their menu under "Comfort Foods" the clear broth is flavorful & the slices of pork were tender and meaty. the green onions, kimchi & pickled cucumber provided a great crispy contrast to the rich broth. I ended up discarding my spoon and guzzling the broth straight up from the brim of the bowl. For the quality of food, their eye-catching presentation, the amount of food we received, the ambience and great service, the prices were not terrible. We split the bill and paid about $42 pp w/ tip.
