Longgg overdue review for my new favorite coffee shop - the name Hold Coffee is so suitable because it's got quite the hold on me! The interior is bright, clean and fun, with charming blue details throughout. The good thing about a late review is that I can say customer service cleanliness and drinks are all consistent! My go to is the Hold Cream - the praline is sooo light and the perfect texture/consistency I never feel guilty after because it's so worth it. I also like the Covina latte - I don't usually like coconut flavored things but loveee it in this it's not overwhelming at all, quite refreshing - and also named after the town they're based in, how cute. The matcha is also beautiful in color and quite yum, I watched as it was whisked in front of me. All the drinks are strong and not overly sweet. I will literally go out of my way to grab get Hold! This place is solid! Amazing drinks, amazing scones, and the sister team that own it are friendly. Parking lot is small and a line usually forms before they open at 8. I was headed to work and needed my morning caffeine fix. I went with their hold cream latte. Just the right amount of sweet for me and ohhh sooo good. In a last minute decision I also went with a house made scone and boy I did not regret it. The corn scone with jam was amazing. My one wish is they were opened just a little earlier than 8. Since I usually need to be at work by then I happened to go on a day I didn't need to be there by then. But it makes it a non option for me on any regular work day. read more

This is an update from my previous review: THE MATCHA IS DELICIOUS!!!! I saw a video they uploaded on insta and noticed that they hand-whisked the matcha so I decided to give it another chance. It had that rich green color which tells you it's going to be a good drink! I got the hold cream matcha and the matcha flavor balanced well with the cream and wasn't overpowered by it! I finally got to try one of the newest coffee shops in the area. Plenty of parking was available. I went in the early afternoon and there were several people in line. The inside is nice and minimally decorated. Customer service was friendly. I was recommended the black coco biscotti latte. At the time, they also had a soft opening 10% off discount on all drinks. They were unfortunately out of scones for the day. There was a matcha black sesame scone that sounded good that I wanted to try. The drink was ready within five minutes. The latte was good. I got it minimally sweet and it was just right. The flavor of the coffee shined through. I definitely need to come back again to try their matcha and scone. My new favorite coffee shop in West Covina! I drive out of my way for this coffee shop. The coffee is amazing and their menu is amazing. I try and try something new every time I've come. My husband loves their Coldbrew and it's consistent every time. My favorite is the Pineapple Matcha, it's perfectly balanced in sweetness and flavor The scones are to die for, they are made in house and if you're lucky enough to catch them right out of the oven, you're in for an experience. The blueberry scone is my favorite. Saw this new cafe and it did not disappoint. I got the strawberry matcha and a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. The matcha had very strong matcha taste and it was not too sweet and the strawberry did not taste artificial or overpower the matcha. It was a good balance. The cookie was bigger than both my hands combined but it was on the thinner side. However it had the perfect crunch and the middle of the cookie was soft. The sea salt on top made the cookie standout a lot. Just the perfect amount of sweet and savory. The service was fast but had minimal design with little tables. Highly would recommend and I will be come back another day but sadly they don't open on the weekends. read more

I truly have been wanting to try this place since it launched it soft opening, but the hours unfortunately do not align with my work schedule. Finally was off on Friday and did not waste any time heading over there. The place is small, but quaint and welcoming with friendly staff a.k.a. I believe the owners. I ordered the iced strawberry Matcha, which is made with in housemaid strawberry syrup. I was concerned to drink would be too sweet as I normally drink my Matcha unsweetened, but very pleasantly surprised how balance was and how you could taste. The syrup was not artificial my husband had the iced black cocoa biscotti which he absolutely loved as it was chocolatey and smooth We shared a coconut scan in the walnut cinnamon scone. Both of them were perfectly golden brown with crispy buttery edges, and absolutely delicious scones do tend to be dense, but these were well balanced. We both did agree that our favorite was the coconut one. Overall, this is a solid place for coffee and look forward to their full regular hours read more

The line curves to where people are standing in line right in front of the sitting area (cramped if busy). To my surprise (not really) all the pastries were GONE. I didn't get to try anything (I went around noon) so I am bummed! The young lady took my order and she was very nice. There was only two people in front of me before I ordered but honestly my wait time in total was about 5 minutes. The drink I ordered was the hold cream w/ praline top. Kinda embarrassed to say I drank it DOWN before I got to my next destination... The coffee was not strong at all and the cream was a perfect balance. This choice is good if you do not enjoy super strong coffee and want something on the lighter tasting side. Keep in mind that this is a latte so its more milk than anything. The coconut matcha has me in an absolute chokehold. It is SO good! The matcha is vibrant and fresh and not overly milky like a lot of places--and the coconut syrup tastes authentic instead of artificial, which I really appreciate. The shop itself is clean, simple, and adorable. But what really sets them apart is the service. Every single person is so kind and welcoming, and they genuinely make an effort to get to know their customers. My husband took my daughter, Storm, in one day without me, and they recognized her right away! He came home and said, "They know Storm at the new coffee shop." Unfortunately, the coffee tastes very milky and bland. It's weak coffee. I still felt sleepy. (Note: Currently, there's a Soft Open sale. It's 10% off all drinks.) I arrived at Hold Coffee (West Covina) on Tuesday (around 9:15AM). Parking is easy. There's a small, available front lot. Staff is very friendly & welcoming. Staff politely answered all my questions. My drink took one minute and 28 seconds. Fast! As mentioned, I did not love the Hold Cream Latte. It tastes frugal and cheap. This coffee reminds me of those bottled mochas sold in the grocery store. This coffee is forgettable, and I hope the quality improves with time. On ambiance, Hold Coffee (West Covina) is cute and charming. There's also customer internet with password; customers must ask staff for details. However, there's zero electrical outlets; there's no public restroom nor hand sanitizer bottle; and the seats/benches are hard & uncomfortable. There's about three mini stool tables. Fortunately, the location is very clean, and there's upbeat, fun music. Overall, I had an adequate experience at Hold Coffee (West Covina). Fresh baked goods are made in-house daily. The menu has Classic and Signature drinks: Lattes, Espresso, Americano, Cortado, Flat White and Cappuccino. My husband and I are on a mission to try all the local coffee shops in the area, and Hold Coffee has quickly become one of our favorites. I've been here a few times now, and I believe they're still in their soft opening. The menu is simple, but thoughtfully curated with plenty of great options. Between the two of us, we've tried just about all of their Signature Lattes. My personal favorites are the Black Cocoa Biscotti Latte and the Covina Latte. Both are well-balanced and not overly sweet. The scones deserve some love too. The Ham & Jalapeño Scone was an instant favorite, flaky and packed with flavor. They also have a corn scone (I think...I can't remember the exact name), and it was just as delicious. Every visit has been a great experience. The staff is genuinely friendly, service is quick, and parking is easy (the holy trinity). My only wish is that they extend their hours in the future. Right now they're closed on Saturdays and Sundays, which makes it harder to stop by on weekends. If you're looking for a new local coffee spot, I'd definitely recommend giving Hold Coffee a try. I was in search of something cold with a flavor that was bold and from what I was told I had to check out the Hold. After my first sip my tastebuds were rocking like Ben Folds! But at the end of the cup I was about to implode. So let me tell you what I ordered to make me feel this way. Black Cocoa Biscotti was the drink and it came with Dutch cocoa, roasted hazelnut and caramel with house praline cream. It was very rich in flavor, silky and refreshing drink. For scones we had: - Apricot pecan 5/5 It was buttery, rich in flavor, perfectly sweet, nutty with crispy edges. - Corn Scone 5/5 Very flavorful, flaky and buttery. I had not tried any scone like it before. Their scones were outstanding! The BEST scones I tried around. They ran out of many scones that I wanted to try. On my second visit, I went very early. This place is dangerously good! I visit family in the area about once a month, and I've definitely found my new go-to coffee spot. Their chai latte was wonderful--perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. But the real showstopper? The scones!! One thing to keep in mind is that the shop is pretty small, so it isn't the best place if you're planning to stay for a while to study or work. Parking lot was full but I was able to find a spot. I ordered the Covina Latte and Sparkling guava pineapple drink. I'm not coffee connoisseur but the coffee tastes good. The sparkling guava pineapple drink had a hint of guava and pineapple flavor. The sparkling soda overwhelmed the drink. It was refreshing though. The scones were great! The applewood jalapeño scones taste like a biscuit. Ham and jalapeño mixed into the dough for a little bit of flavor in every bite. Crispy on the outer part and soft in the middle. I am so happy this cafe is finally open. Covina needed a really good cafe with unique drinks and vibes, and this place is it. They have such a fun drink menu, even with a Covina Latte. Finally got to check this place out. I tried to stop by one day on a saturday without knowing they aren't open on weekends due to them still going through their soft opening but this is temporary! I got a pineapple matcha and my boyfriend got the strawberry matcha. Off of first taste the pineapple one came off almost on the strawberry side, but after actually trying the strawberry one, the strawberry is more sweet. Both are good options and are very tasty! we will definitely stop by again once we are in the area again. The matcha is not super matcha-y so it is a good option for beginners first getting into matcha. I asked the barista for recommendations which I know to some people can be annoying but she was really nice and that will always get extra points! Coffee is a 10/10, menu variety is a 10/10, house-made scones are a 10/10. Customer service is always sweet no matter how busy they are. Never have to wait too long for drinks. I wish there was more seating and tables but I don't think the space is big enough for that to happen, so it's more of a grab-n-go spot. Right now their hours are only M-F, which I really hope changes. My favorite drink is the Black Cocoa Biscotti and my favorite scone (so far) is the Corn. The same advice I gave Pour You Coffee down the street: - please have more seating: Coffee shops should be a place to gather and sit with friends over a cup of coffee. If I'm paying $8 for a drink, I'd like to also enjoy the environment for a while. If you can add some tables to the benches, or even outside seating on the sidewalk? Anything so that it can be a gathering place and not just a quick pickup station. - please get "for here" cups/glasses: This one is huge. Again, if I'm paying that much for a drink, it makes a huge difference in the experience if it's presented in a ceramic mug or glass cup. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive, just simple sustainable dishes can make the experience feel 10x more memorable and worth the cost. It also makes social media pictures look even better which attracts more customers. -include your city on any merch: This is just my own personal preference. If and when you make branded merch, please include the city, West Covina, CA, somewhere in the design. It would be amazing if you hired a local West Co resident artist to make your design but now I'm just dreaming. My husband and I patiently waited for Hold Coffee to open and it was worth the wait! I had the Hold Cream and it was great! The quality is good and flavor is on point. The scones were a pleasant surprise. I got the blueberry and was blown away by the texture and taste. It is soft on the inside with the most delightful crisp on the outside. It is literal perfection and I've been thinking about it ever since. Unfortunately, they are not open on the weekends (for now) so I haven't been able to return for my fix! I cannot wait for them to be open on the weekends, hopefully soon because Hold will definitely be my go to coffee shop when that happens. Also, the space is gorgeous! Visiting this place was like a breath of fresh air. I always get SO EXCITED to check out a new coffee shop, and I am thrilled that it's in this area! The ambiance is very gorgeous. I love the red bench, the vase of flowers, the little prints here and there. I LOVE that they have housemade scones!!!!! Scones are the best ever treat and the fact that they offer so many different flavors and make it themselves?! A+ automatically. I got the corn scone, and it was perfect in every way. Texture was perfect, flavor was perfect, all around perfection! I got an iced latte, and they seem to use the same coffee beans that Nook Coffee Bar uses, Jetty Coffee Roasters. They also have coffee beans, matcha, matcha whisks, and Baggu bags for sale. This is my second time visiting Hold Coffee in Covina and I have to give it a five star review. The lions can get along for a reason. The first time I came I tried a regular iced Matcha latte, and it was amazing the second time coming and trying their Biscotti latte was also amazing. I was afraid both drinks would be too sweet, but they were literally perfect in sweetness. Coconut matcha: 10000/5 The ham & cheese scone: 5/5 I truly wish other coffee shops had coconut matcha the way that Hold Coffee does it. Other businesses do coconut water and matcha like a tonic, but Hold uses a light coconut syrup in a matcha latte. Not too sweet and doesn't give the artificial coconut taste. Because I have a nut allergy to most types, I did not try any of the baked goods in case of a risk of cross contamination. I do give it to management as they're very clear on noting that the business does in fact work with products with nuts. Very clean inside. It's got some seating against the wall and window. It feels crowded on there quickly as there isn't a clear designation for the line. They need to add some lines on the ground or some posts to guide the line. I ordered the Hold latte, half sweet, easy ice, w/ oat milk. It's not strong coffee, but it tasted good. What I was really wowed w/ was the scone. I tried the matcha black sesame scone. It was so good. I will be going back just to try a different flavor scone (they have multiple options).
