I love pizza so I'm always trying to find new pizza places that I haven't tried before. I have an app I used to rate pizzas I try (one-bite). When looking for a new place to try I found this place on yelp and it had high scores on one-bite. I also googled wood fired pizza in Buffalo and I found a list of the top 10. Hearth + Press was on it. Tonight I went and was pleasantly surprised how modern and rustic it was inside with the flooring, lights, tables and chairs. The decor made it great. There were normal chairs and then I sat on a low leather chair you would find in an office or high end studio apartment. Really comfortable. The waitress was really nice and knowledgeable when I had a question. Service was fast. The pizza didn't take that long as well. You can watch the pizza being made by the chef and being cooked in the big wood fired oven. The pizza came out. It looked really good. I ordered a margherita pizza. Was really good. Can tell it was fresh mozzarella and other ingredients. Crust was really crispy. It didn't have that much cheese compared to other margherita pizzas I have had. It was lacking some. I also had a coke in a big oddly shaped glass which was cool. It was $14 I believe for the pizza which was a 12 inch pie. A little on the pricey side but good. With the yelp app if you check in you get a free French press coffee. I don't drink coffee but the person I was with did. It was fresh and strong. Took 5 minutes to brew. Went at 7pm and only one other table was there the entire time I was there which was odd. Was really slow for a Thursday night. Maybe it was because there were no shows or concerts going on? Only complaint is the website doesn't have a menu or prices. Also, parking is hard on Main St so I parked in the M&T Bank lot around the corner for $3. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. We went after a show this weekend and it was just okay. I know this is a downtown spot, but the drinks were very expensive. My fiancé ordered an alcoholic coffee drink, it was $12 and it was barely more than a shot. He also thought it was disgusting, but after paying that much he forced it down. We did decide to get food though, and we just split a small pizza. It was actually really good. The hearth cooked the crust perfectly, and the pepperoni were small and crispy. I would try another pizza if we were to ever end up back there again. If we just head out for drinks though, I would pass. read more

Have been here a few times and am a fan. Love the pizza. The tomato sauce is super sweet and delicious. I've tried all the pizzas except the meatball and the dessert one, but my favorite would be the Margarita pizza. I think they are still working out the kinks as they've been open for a few weeks. I came in on Friday and the place was swamped. It took about 10 minutes for the bartender to say hi to us after we sat at the bar. Once we were acknowledged, service was pretty prompt. The coffee they have is incredible and really strong. I would definitely suggest ordering a cup of coffee. Haven't had dessert yet, but look forward to coming here one morning for the baked goods, french press and dessert pizza. read more

A very good find downtown that was not crowded on a Friday night, but hopefully that changes as COVID restrictions change. We had the caprese salad and a pizza and loved everything! Would recommend having pizza here anytime. We also had rice pudding and baklava and they were both delicious. Definitely worth stopping in for great food and service. read more

Hearth & Press is off to a great start! It was a bit hard to find because there is no conspicuous sign on the outside of building, just etching on the door. I assume that will be fixed soon! It is a perfect location for a pre-show meal! They have a bar surrounding the brick oven pizza and also some smaller tables around the bar. You order your food at the register and then bring it to your table. The menu is pretty basic - salads, baguette sandwiches, and six standard types of pizza. They also have bagels, pastries and desserts for purchase behind the counter. As far as drinks go, they have delicious freshly brewed coffee, tea, cocktails and wine (two bottles of red and two bottles of white). I ordered the Proscuitto Pizza and it was SUPER good! I loved the proscuitto, goat cheese and arugula topping. I wish they had balsamic or olive oil drizzled on top! The pizza dough was served fresh, warm and the perfect consistency. I would absolutely order this exact pizza again! I think Hearth & Press has great potential! The renovated space looks absolutely beautiful during the day and at nighttime! They did open very recently, but I would eventually like to see them expand their food menu, wine list and maybe add table service. finally got around to checking out Osb Ciderworks last night. was never that into ciders - they usually taste too similar and are generally pretty boring - but this place does everything outside the box. infusions, crazy flavor pairings, awesome staff and GUSHERS. they also have a few good beers/wines available. after, we walked a block up the street to check out Hearth + Press and was blown away. if you like jays artisan - you'll love this place. i grabbed the buffalo pizza and a custom "grandma" pie with vodka sauce, mozzarella, romano, goat cheese, caramelized onion and roasted red pepper. WUT. they also have a full bar and GREAT coffee. if you're looking for an easy night out, highly recommend heading to main and hitting both spots. crazy how that area has evolved over that last couple years. i remember catching the subway after going to the square and seeing homeless dudes take a shit on the corner where fattey beer co. is. now it's home to some of the best spots lolol read more

Cold sandwiches are $8 and come with a generous side of chips and a large pickle. They also have hot sandwiches. Today I went with a cold and ordered the turkey. When I opened my takeout box I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. This is not your standard turkey sandwich. Served on perfectly toasted focaccia bread (tastes like it was toasted in the wood fire oven ... mmmm) with thinly shaved turkey, greens, tomato and onions. But what made this so surprising and exceptional was the olive oil with Parmesan cheese ... I'm a sucker for both and this was just absolutely heavenly. Went to this place on a Wednesday night about 8 PM. Not too many tables filled because it's not a theater night. My partner and I eat out pretty much every night and decided to revisit this place after a six-month hiatus because it wasn't so great last time we were here. I ordered a $12 old-fashioned and watch the bartender make it with about a half an ounce of whiskey simple syrup a little bit of bitters and an orange non-muddled at the bottom. I'm actually an old fashion kind of person and I can say it's probably one of the worst ones I've ever had. I asked for it sweet but it was so cloyingly sweet that I asked him to do something to it to make it better and he offered to remake it and since I know that sometimes restaurant struggle I just said add more alcohol to it it's fine. My partner ordered a $14 espresso martini which was OK but not worth the price. We ordered the fruit and goat cheese salad with balsamic on the side because we had read an earlier review that they put too much dressing on their salads. It was very nice. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and added meatballs and onions and waited about 10 minutes in the oven for it to come out and crazily enough it really wasn't that hot. We noticed the pizza guy put it on his pizza board and lift it up to the top of the oven to cook the top but when we got it literally 30 seconds later it just wasn't that hot and we were both puzzled by that. We tried to eat it but nothing was really hot on it. Meatballs semi-warm, pepperoni warm but not hot and the cheese barely melted. So, I'm sure this 12 inch pizza was close to $22 after we added meatballs and onions and I looked at my partner and asked her if I was crazy and she said no. So we told the bartender that the pizza was barely warm. He offered to have another one made and I said just reheat it. He turned the pizza guy and said the ladies are not happy because the pizza is not very hot. The pizza guy looked at him and said, "that's impossible." I looked at him and said, "I'm not crazy and I'm not a liar." Funny thing is the owner was sitting at the bar at the same time two seats over from me and never said a word. They had two tables in their entire restaurant and they need to piss people off so they leave? I guess he must have all the money in the world to just burn up with not great food and even worse attitudes. By the way? Two drinks and a salad were $43 and I tipped seven dollars although not a complete 20% I thought it was fair. Again, the owner was sitting right in the corner and never said a word to us. read more

Great place before a show. The breakdown: *The buffalo pie, which is basically a meat lover's pizza, comes topped with a lot protein added with a slight kick. It's one of the more expensive items on the menu but well worth the money. *4 cheese pizza is a bit on the sweet side, could honestly be a dessert pizza, but good nonetheless. *Margherita is the basic that you appreciate. Everything that makes a pizza good and nothing else. Carbs and cheese. *Pepperoni pizza, it's good pepperoni pizza. The service was very attentive and fast. I was a little leary because some posted bad reviews, but don't listen to those haters. Probably competition. The Fire baked Pizzas were great and the Salads were outstanding. I had the Mediterranean Salad and my wife had the Arugula salad. Truly both were great and both were a large heaping plate of greens. I had the Red Four Goat Cheese Pizza with Shrooms and my wife had the White Veggie Pizza with Eggplant. Both were outstanding. Our waitress, Lorraine, was also outstanding. Water instantly, drink orders were prompt, and the food served piping hot, prompt & with a friendly smile checking with us several times for more drinks and check ups. Couldn't ask for anything else and it was a very busy night. Our friends had a couple of their pasta dishes and all looked great! Prices for drinks and dinner ($6 Peroni) were reasonable and competitive for a downtown Theater district restaurant. Yummmy! Oh it's been a while since I had some Italian style food out! Lots of gems downtown and I hadn't tried this one yet and was excited! My friend and I came right around "show" time on a Friday nite so the place seemed packed btwn 6 -7ish and then come 8 pmish it really cleared out! So note --making reservation not a bad idea for a Fri nt. Despite making reservation, some (not all but some) of their tables way too close towards the back end of the place...yes, a little....too close for comfort -however I chose to look past this--see it as "cozy" til the crowds cleared. It's nice looking in there and depending where you sit you can see them sliding the pizzas in and out the oven! I ordered a margarita and loved it, and my friend got a truly beverage-don't those come out a can? Well you'd never know from its presentation in a fancy glass. As for the food we got the Calabrian Chili wings, and then for dinner split a Buffalo Pie Pizza (has sausage meatballs, pepperoni, and pieces of stuffed hot peppers!) and their pesto and walnut gnocchi. It seemed like a lot of people did that--getting pizza and pasta and sharing. The wings were baked, I know us Buffalonians eat fried usually and they were spicy which I don't minnnnd but if I went bk I'd skip wings and try them potato wedges or I noticed a lot of people had some kind of dip and bread--don't know what it was but must be good cause it was on like everyone else's table! I will say though if you can't take the heat DO NOT order the Buffalo pizza. The chopped pieces of stuffed pepper are so tiny you can hardly see them on your pizza-but that's probably intentional because they are hot as sin! But I loved it! As for the gnocchi, uh I haven't had that much gnocchi in my life but seemed good-- I really haven't met a plate of pasta type fare that I don't like though! But they are known for their gnocchi there, it's like a thing. They have other pasta options but a whole section of diff gnocchi options to choose from. Then for dessert we got the baklava and the cinnamon roll. You will see from the pic the cinnamon roll is diff than what you might normally think, and looks burnt...haha apparently that's how it is supposed to be and word of advice it tastes as burnt as it looks and surprisingly the drizzle over it was not super flavorful either. In my opinion the baklava was nice, my friend felt it needed a little more honey/moistness. Honestly though even appetizers and desserts aside, I would return for the drinks, pizza and pasta for sure! Staff also very nice! And they had a unisex single stall bathroom I appreciated. But we came at an epically busy time so drinks took a while to come out and as mentioned a bit crowded so we would have never got a table without reservation on a fri nt. Wow what can I say!! The BEST PIZZA I have ever tasted. Wood fired fresh and very light and full of flavor. I ate here 3 days in a row it was so damn good. The owner was extremely helpful and recommended all the right things. Modern fresh no nonsense decor makes this place a great place to sit enjoy a great meal. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for next level pizza. Not your average Buffalo Pizzeria. I had an ice tea that was out of this world make sure you ask the waitress about it. I'm torn. This place has amazing pizza but I ventured into the salad territory and was utterly disappointed. I recently ordered a Greek chicken salad and it was literally a handful of greens, some olives and an insane amount of white onions. When I say a handful of greens, I mean it. And the chicken was completely tasteless, as was the dressing. Not even joking - I was hungry 30 minutes after. Deep sigh. This is a great spot to grab coffee (it's delish) and get some work done. I love this joint! They have such a great selections of Neapolitan pizzas and they do it so well. They offer a good amount of variety including red, white and green (pesto) pizzas! We got the white four cheese and it came with honey which I was a huge fan of but might not be for people who don't like some sweetness to their pizza. Their margarita pizza is as classic as it gets. Went for lunch today and decided to try the chicken souvlaki salad special. It wasn't. It was light on ingredients and the chicken was that kinda stringy mush that results from poaching. I mean, if you blindfolded me I probably would have thought it was tuna. I'll try again, but for the pizza, which is, I assume, their strong suit. I never leave negative reviews because I don't want to hurt a small business but in this case I will to warn people as well as to hopefully give some suggestive criticism to the establishment. I wish there was such a thing as a negative star because this place would get it. I wanted to like it with the great location across from Shea's but there are TOO many negatives for me to go back or recommend. The first complaint was the food and price . Two bland pizzeria style pizzas, two salads and one cocktail .... $85. WAY overpriced especially for the quality The meatball pizza was nothing other than a pepperoni, sausage and pepper pizza but at least it had some flavor. The pesto chix pizza could not be finished I asked the waitress if I got the right one after not tasting any pesto after tasting three slices. The fourth slice I finally tasted the pesto but it was nothing great... bland and lacking flavor The really annoying part was that our $12 arugula boring salads were served (after waiting an hour) at the same time as our pizzas which normally is fine except the table we were at was so small that you could not have the pizza and a salad in front of you at the same time. The waitress actually stood next to the table holding the pizzas as we wolfed our salads down. I have never been so rushed or so annoyed Then to boot, there are not enough restrooms because there was constantly a line of 4-5 people waiting next to our table to use the unisex restrooms So actually this review would be a negative number if I could give one. I really want to like this place. The space is so cool. It smells amazing when you walk in. And the staff is super friendly. But - and this is a deal breaker - the pizza isn't consistent. We had five people at our table order the same pizza and one out of the five had half the cheese of the other four. The dough wasn't fully cooked and, as much as the edges had the amazing look of thin crust, wood fired pizza, the rest of the crust didn't stand up. I actually ordered a second pizza to see whether it was any better except the person who ordered for me somehow conveyed to our server that I wanted "extra" cheese, rather than simply the same as on all the other pizzas so we ended up with a $2 up charge for extra cheese. The crust was still soggy. Maybe they're putting olive oil on the plates? The other thing that I don't love is how cold it is in there. I understand that it's a big space with high ceilings and so it's hard to heat affordably. So my point is just, be sure to wear something warmer if you're going during the winter. Significant complaints aside, whatever mozzarella they're using is SO incredibly delicious. Seriously. And the other flavors are really nicely balanced. If they can just get the crusts fully cooked and crispy, and the pizzas more consistent in terms of toppings, they'd have a real show stopper. (Shea's better watch out.) It sounds like I'm complaining a lot. But I do still like this place. When I brought the leftovers home and reheated them in a cast iron pan the crust crisped right up and it was absolutely delightful. Our first stop in was soon after Hearth + Press opened on a rainy Monday night. It's great to see new businesses on Main Street. Great location for theater goers! The decor is minimalist industrial. It was pretty quiet that night. It seems like there's plenty of room for more tables to make it feel less cold and gaping. And possibly another light or two in the darker corners. We were sat right away. Only the manager and the owner were working. Needless to say we got great service! After drinks, we opted for a meatball pizza and caprese salad to share. Both were delicious but not enough to two hungry diners! We followed up with a margarita pizza as well and waddled away happy. On another occasion I returned with a table of four. We shared three pizzas, an app, and a salad. We managed to finish most of it and left with full bellies. The vegetarian pizza wasn't a hit - something about the eggplant and mushroom was off. They were a bit dry and tough to eat. We all left our jackets on, though. Hopefully things will warm up for the winter! Otherwise, we enjoyed ourselves. Not a good experience. The place is located across the street from Shea's Theater. My girlfriends and I had made reservations to grab a bite to eat before the show. Seated at 5:30- no water was served. 5:50- waitress took our drink orders. Still no water. 6:15- we finally was able to hunt down our waitress to get us some water and to check on our drinks. She did apologize and advised that they were understaffed. No kidding! There was only 3 employees available to help 40 guest. Crap! She left without taking our order. At this point you start to see people walking out of the place due to receiving similar experiences. 6:30- got our drinks and placed our orders. 7:00 - Finally our food arrives! Now we just have to shovel the food down our throats and rush to get out of here. The waitress got the order wrong for my girlfriend. My girlfriend accepted the wrong meal bc returning the food was not an option, bc the show starts at 7:30. I will have to say the food was not impressive. Some of our portions were small, others cold and overall the taste was nothing to brag about. 7:15- trying to hunt down waitress for our check. 7:20- we get our check and burst out laughing. The bill was over a $100. We couldn't believe that we were spending this much money on bad service and blah food. Also, the waitress charged my friend for the meal that she messed up. Guess what ! The meal she accepted in place of her order was more expensive then what she ordered and the waitress charged her for it. Since, the show started in 10 minutes, we didn't have time to dispute or have the bill adjusted. We called it a lost, left the money on the table and left. Funny, the people sitting front of us at the show had recognized us from the restaurant. They walked out without meal due to the terrible service. We had a good laugh about our similar experience. But you can't ignore those of us that walked in to your place. They have 2 people- 1 cook and one helper. They are so focused on to go orders they forget about the walk ins. I had potato wedges - eh they were ok but not a wow. My friend and I shared a pizza. Undercooked- not crisp- kinda tasteless. And it's pretty expensive for lunch.
