I checked into the Curtiss hotel on a Monday night, and I was in the mood for a burger. Fortunately, Vue has a Monday night special at the rooftop bar which provided beautiful views, friendly service and a really decent burger all for $20 (plus tax and tip). The bartender, Katharin offered me a seat at either the indoor bar, the outdoor patio, or the indoor covered patio. Since it was a beautiful night, I sat outside next to the fire pit (which was unlit due to the rare 80° temperature in Buffalo). The burger and fries arrived quickly, and I did get a free refill on my iced tea. The service was really top-notch! Whether you go for beverages or a quick bite, I highly recommend that you visit this rooftop lounge... weather permitting. read more

The live music the night I went was just terrible. The bar staff was very friendly and helpful with picking out the best things in the menu. The charcuterie board for one is huge and can definitely be shared. Probably a better place to go in the summer time when the patio is more open. read more

We came on a cold wintry night so the bar wasn't very busy, but my husband said he'd totally hang out at the fire pit if it was open. Weirdly, the fire was still on even though the pit was surrounded by a foot of snow. It was an interesting aesthetic. There's a narrow dining area on an enclosed patio with color changing lights, but we sat at the bar. The unique seasonal drink menu is the same as the revolving bar on the ground floor. I had the Jack Frost, which paired coconut liquor and blue curacao with, of all things, peppermint - and it totally works. All the flavors play off each other well without being obnoxious. Great service. I definitely want to come back to enjoy the outside patio and try whatever magical concoctions they offer in other seasons. read more

I need to give this place 3 stars. Not because of my experience from last night because it was great - great bartenders, great drinks, and great views. The 3 stars comes from us being denied entrance last year. Friends of mine had called and confirmed THREE times that they could have their wedding afterparty here. Once the day came and we were all waiting downstairs to get up the elevators, they said they couldn't accommodate us (about 20 people). I'd like to go back because the views were great, but take precaution if you want to host big groups up there. read more

Spent a couple hours here with friends after enjoying our dinner downstairs at Chez Ami. When we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Being that it was very cold and windy, no one was outside at the firepit or in the rest of the outdoor seating area. By the time we left the place the crowd had filled in so I guess the cold didn't keep people away. One of our friends wasn't happy with how her drink was made. I had wine so there was no problems with mine. I think since we were talking I didnt even notice if they had any music playing. There was a tv on but the sound was muted. I came here on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. Finding a spot outside where the views are was a little tough. When we did find a cocktail table outside we had to shove the empty glasses and beer bottles over to make room for ourselves, so that wasn't great. But it was a lovely view and the fire pit was nice and kept us warm! I got the Blue lagoon cocktail and it was okay. The blue color was a lil off putting but I asked for it didn't I? Haha. My nephew had a wedding there,the food was ok at best. We took the party to the bar. My son and nephew were drinking. My son accidentally knocked over a glass and then they were asked to leave. There was no reason for them to ask them to leave as they were not being loud or rude. The man kept on engaging with my nephew which just made things worse. Since I was the designated driver I was not drinking. They need to know how to handle situations better. It was very disappointing on how they handle the situation. Great roof top bar, with a nice classy sophisticated look. You have the option of sitting outside by the huge fire pit, I suggest trying it during the warmer months. There is also a section, that is partially covered. If you choose to sit outside in this section, they have heaters to warm this area. read more

The drinks are delicious, especially the Goose in the Garden. I've only had a few snacks while I've been here and they're good, but a bit overpriced. My buddy and I sat outside warming up by the fire and whiling away the night high (well, a few floors) above Downtown Buffalo. Don't get the condescending take-downs because it's not in NYC. Fun space to hang out, I enjoy the fire pit and the openness of it all. But, at least when I've been there, there's no table service and you cannot order any food. So, lots of teetering over to your table with martinis you're trying not to spill. I just prefer not to interrupt my socializing to go and stand at a busy bar for 10 minutes. Just came back from saying my prayers that I didnt get food poisoning from the Friendsgiving brunch just served at the Vue. Reservations were made and all was pre-paid (that should be your first hint) and hostess seats us at a table of 4, and then when confronted was so confused as to what to do about the extra person. Geez. This buffet (that had a line about 40 people deep for an hour) had stainless steel serving trays with little butter warmers trying to warm up massive amounts of foods. All the food was semi warm to freezing cold including the chicken. The turkey slices and stuffing HAD NO WARMERS at all. I told the server she needs to tell the manager that the food is not at a proper temp and could get people sick. If at a proper temp, some of the food would have been very tasty and would have been a pleasure to eat- sweet potato hash, smashed potatoes, bourbon carrots. They offered a turkey sandwich (Slices of thin deli meat) but get this NO GRAVY ....for a Turkey dinner - NO GRAVY. They had 4 cocktails to pick from as part of the meal. At the 1:30PM seating the Pear Martini wasn't available. We asked for water 3x and then I just went up to the bar - asked for 5 waters and put it on a tray and served my own table. I really can't believe how downhill this place went in just a few years. Think more and do better! Thank god music from Brother James was playing - he was delightful. read more

Very disappointing! We were excited about Easter Brunch at the very lovely, Curtiss. We've had wonderful experiences here; however, Easter Brunch was disgusting. The food was horrible. The "frittata" had a fishy aftertaste, the only plate left had a burn mark on it, wilted salad... GROSS!! There is so much more to say (including the fact that the "non-refundable" payment at the time of the reservation). NEVER AGAIN. I've been here a couple times with some friends after a nice dinner downtown. It's really nice especially during the evenings of warm summer nights! Their drinks are decently priced although they have some fun, special cocktails that cost around $15. There is plenty of seating- some is covered and there's also a heater! Some friends convinced us to make a pit stop here after dinner at Dobutsu a couple of weeks ago. Hubby and I aren't fans of the Curtiss Hotel to begin with because our dinner at chez amis a while ago was pretty unimpressive and overpriced. Upon exiting the Uber, one of the valet/security guys immediately told my husband that he can't wear his (very nice and clean) Buffalo baseball cap inside, which ticked him off right away. We were all very well dressed, and I honestly have never heard of a hotel that bans baseball caps... especially in BUFFALO. People were in there in t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops, and my husband - who was in a button down dress shirt - can't wear his baseball cap? Not to mention, we were just heading to the bar, not the restaurant. The space was very large and there were multiple bars. There were plenty of outdoor and indoor tables and seating, and a nice large fire pit in the outdoor area. The bartenders were friendly and efficient, although slightly unprofessional since they were complaining about some other customers as we walked up to order a round of drinks. The drinks were all measured and somewhat overpriced (for Buffalo). We sat down at a table but the music was so loud that it was hard to have a decent conversation. I'm not sure how structurally sound the building is, but every time someone walked by, the floor shook and we could feel EVERY SINGLE STEP. I was told that the view up there is incredible, so I did a quick walk around the perimeter on our way out. All I could see was a giant parking ramp since this "rooftop" wasn't even that high up and didn't exactly tower over any of the adjacent buildings. Perhaps I wasn't standing in the right spot to see this "incredible" view, but quite honestly by that point I didn't really care to go look for the spot - if it even exists. We had a celebration brunch buffet today and it was good. Some of food wasn't even warmed up. We did receive a free drink with our food. We had asked for water several times and finally we had to go up and get it ourselves. When we went up again have the food was gone, they didn't even put more food out. Came here after dinner for a conversation and cocktails with friends. Upon entering we were greeted by the bartenders. The outside views are amazing at night! We found a table and the back and got ourselves situated there then went back to the bar to order our drinks. I ordered a lemon drop which is the same drink that I order downstairs at the restaurant/bar but unfortunately it tasted totally different, it wasn't good, just sour (like lemon juice sour)& didn't taste the Tito's. Needless to say I only drank half and left the rest! And the drinks are a little more expensive upstairs. However I still enjoyed my company and the atmosphere. I will be back. The rooftop is huge and has two bars so you do not feel crowded. Loved our experience and the bartenders are very friendly.

Went for their "Wine Wednesday" special. The price was great but the selection was limited. The location is the top floor of the Curtis hotel, which is stunning from top to bottom. Even though the weather was bad, it was still enjoyable to sit on their enclosed patio. The colorful recessed lights at night gave a cool/hip vibe. There was also a huge fire pit outside to enjoy if the weather is nice. Will definitely be back! read more

Ok! I so want to give this place more stars because I do think it's a great idea and I did come here multiple times during my stay in Buffalo cause the weather was so nice BUUUUUUTTTTT this place was disorganized and underprepared. I would give it 2 stars but I did like the idea of a rooftop bar... Who doesn't right???? While buffalo has had other rooftop bars this one is something that I envision to be in Manhattan if they were ready and prepared. The low down. There were certain things that really irked me. First, They didn't have a drink menu. So you can order some simpler drink items but anything complicated they can't do. Cause I asked for certain things and they had no idea. Second, their drinks are expensive! There are three different bars and each time I went up they charged different prices. Why can't they get organized? Third, their tiles aren't grouted, missing countertops, and unfinished decor. It's kinda odd but for some place that tout high prices...... why aren't things finished? I love that they renovated a historic building but I wish they would have done it right. I hope they can get it right though! This space is great for summer nights and great for people watching. Hopefully when I come back things will be a bit better. read more

I have been to this bar multiple times, wanting to enjoy myself, and EVERY single time I've been disappointed. The prices are quite high, which would be justifiable for the unique rooftop ambience IF the service and drinks were up to a certain standard. Two experiences stand out in my mind. There was the $15 dirty Tanqueray martini that was made with lime juice rather than olive juice. Honest mistake, buuuuut for that price those mistakes really shouldn't be happening. To top it off the bartender was miffed when I asked him to remake the drink. Honey, just remake the drink. And then there was most recently. Me: (Sober. Standing at the bar, credit card in hand) Bartender: Do you NEED something? (with an attitude) Me: Yes. (Thinking to myself, of course I need something. This is a bar.) Bartender: What do you NEED? (same attitude) Me: (Insert Drink Order) I'm sorry, but I have worked in the industry for a long time. And that is not how you engage with customers. "Hi. Have you been helped?" OR "What can I get you?" would have been nice. Pretty standard greetings one would think? The level of service for the supposed experience that this bar offers does not compute. Professionalism among the bartenders is nonexistent and has been since it's opening. Don't get me wrong, this is a chronic problem at most "boujee" bars in Buffalo, but this place is by far the most consistent in poor service. I should note that I've been to the revolving bar inside, as well, and always enjoyed myself. So try downstairs? read more

If this review was based on only the ambience, it would be a five star review- it's a great view (or Vue) of our fabulous city. I ordered a Moscow mule ($10 plus tax) since no cocktail menu was available and it's a go-to choice of mine. It was a well made cocktail, although not in its signature copper cup. A few of my friends and I relaxed in the sun and enjoyed the live entertainment. I decided to enjoy another cocktail and my friends decided to just get a water since it was so hot outside instead of a second drink. A male bartender waited on us, not friendly at all, and even made a comment to a friend that he was "pouring waters" tonight when asked how his night was while serving us! Extremely rude and unprofessional comment right?!?! My friend also told me that when she first got there, that same bartender rushed her to make a drink decision even though she was the only one at the bar at the time. I would come back to check out the scene at night but I really hope that bartender isn't working and the rest of the staff is more accommodating and respectful because the place definitely has potential! read more

I'm giving it 3 stars for the location. We've had mixed experiences with the drinks - some days when it's been awful and some when it's been fine. Food options are limited but what we've had has been good. Valet parking is nice. The view of down town is great. Sunsets are a big miss because the patio faces the wrong way (head over to Tappo for killer rooftop sunsets) but it's still pretty at night. The fire pit seating is cool if you don't mind sharing with lots of people. We usually stick with a high top. Overall, okay place if you want to dress up a little and enjoy a view of the city. Not a top favorite but a solid choice assuming you don't mind the hit or miss bar service. read more

Stopped in a few weeks ago for their St. Patrick's Day brunch... the rooftop restaurant was very nice we actually ate outside on what looked like a enclosed porch area , it was very warm and comfortable. This brunch was pre paid $42.00 pp all you could eat wit unlimited green mimosas we had a party of 4 with a 1:15 seating time, so we arrived ON TIME and the place seemed to be in full swing , I didn't feel like the staff was friendly maybe they were tired from the hustle of the 1st seating.... So we got to our table and were able to get a 1st round of just about everything, after that things kinda went down!!!! The guy at the carving station disappeared so nobody was around to slice the turkey or the ham that was just sitting there under the light , the baileys casserole Never got refilled nor did the sausage. When the bacon did get refilled it was emptied right away, the Brussel sprouts and potatoes were burnt . Our server Isabella was very nice and did a good job of taking care of us she's the reason for 3 starts. 5 stars for the view alone because who doesn't enjoy a rooftop bar? For as swanky as Vue tried to be, the experience left a lot to be desired. Not a lot of liquor options, no cocktail menu, and overpriced watered down drinks. The gentleman making my party's drinks did not know the recipe to basic drinks. He asked his sidekick and she also didn't know. I also specifically asked for a side of water and lime and he proceeded to start pouring water and lime into the mixed drinks he made. I had to stop him in his tracks. Really disappointed. Our party ended up going to the newer rooftop bar down the street and had a fabulous time there, with stiff drinks and more knowledgeable bartenders, and most importantly - awesome downtown vibes! read more

Let me start off by saying this place is really Nice looking. It is expensive too. So now we are dealing with a high end restaurant. So why the 2 stars? It is all expensive fluff and not much to back it up. The first thing that turned a few of the people off was when they ordered frozen drinks. The waitress said they have no blender. Strike one. Even expensive restaurants have bread with the meal. This place charges $8 for 'Bread service. ' they give you a couple of breadsticks that you can almost choke to death on along with little puff rolls that were a lot better. They also give you a round slab of butter that sort of looks like a sliced off piece of canned cranberry jelly that was already melting into yellow liquid when they brought it to us. Im used to all kinds of restaurants. I have been in Europe, Australia, Central America Caribbean and more. So I'm used to high end and little dives. We all ordered drinks. My mom who is elderly and can't have any alcohol. So she ordered soda water - Seltzer. They ended up giving her soda water with alcohol. The waitress said it was not her!fault.... It was the bartender. To be fair, all of the other drinks were good. The waitress was very nice. However, another fluff issue l was with presentation. If you are acting like high end restaurant, and then charging like one, then the special menu should be memorized. She read the entire special menus without looking up once. More Fluff. When collecting the heavy menus after taking our order, the waitress tried to kill my mom by accidentally dropping the menu on her. Well it only fell on her head. Just like the restaurant, her aim was off. Everyone liked their different types of Salads. That was nice. However, as I was almost 1/3 done with my salad, the French Onion Soup came out. I quick plunging down of the salad aloud me to try the soup ahead of time. I don't know if it was a burnt flavor or possibly made with Cognac? The waitress had no idea either. It was on the salty side and kind of missed the mark for good French Onion Soup. Everyone liked their dinners. I didn't hear the is out of the world type of comments. At the same time no one said the didn't like their meals. The main stars Of the dishes were good. However, the supporting cast was I'm the gross side as you will see in the pictures, the Risotto was undercooked and sort of looked like dog food. 3 stars would have been my normal review for the food since It was average. However, the high price trickery is BS that I can't get over. The staff is not trained more than what you would find at a high end McDonalds. I'm not knocking McDonalds now. This place gets and an extra star for the view. I always joke that their next advertisement should be along the lines of "Come to enjoy the view at Vue" but maybe that's too cheesy. My friends and I all go to Vue for the view and certainly not the drinks. A simple vodka soda always comes to $6-$7 depending on which bar (there are two or three bars up on the roof) its ordered from. I believe the happy hour is only one day out of the week for 1-2 hours as well. I frequently go to cocktail bars that charge much more for delicious craft cocktails and drinks but cannot get over paying over $5 for a simple drink made with bottom shelf liquor. Harsh, I know. I will always tell anyone who comes here to not plan on spending a ton at the bar but come and enjoy the firepit and view. This location is really ideal and the hotel itself is stunning. The bar has a very posh feel with a mix of younger and slightly older patrons in suits. Vue definitely gives Buffalo a larger city feel but also comes with larger city prices but not quality. I come here very frequently during the summer but really wish the drinks would either be less expensive or more creative and better quality. read more

what a disappointment this place was. I enjoyed the view of the city and the atmosphere of the place but had terrible experience with the food. The drinks were really good and the staff was nice, But when I got my pizza my waitress said if it's too dark then let me know and I can get another one. I got a pizza that was burnt and I don't know why she would even try to serve it to me. I was with 3 other people and two of them got their food way before me and my other friend. From the looks of their tacos they were very dry and they had to ask for a salsa and guacamole after they brought their food because it was so bland/dry. they did end up making me a new pizza but when I went to the restroom they took it away when I still had half of it to finish and never touched the other three girls plates for another half hour. So I had to ask where my food went when I got back and then they made me a third pizza. It was just a not good experience. I don't know if it was the night that I got there or what happened. Overall the drinks and atmosphere was nice but we were all disappointed with the food. I have to wonder...have any of the reviewers who compare this to a rooftop in NYC ever been to a rooftop bar in NYC? Because, no, it's not. Well, in some respects it is. Drinks are expensive, so you order them by the $78 pitchers in NYC. Here, well, I didn't think they were expensive. Service tends to be somewhat uncordial because it's a douchebag scene. Tick! That's NYC too. What's not NYC? The decor, the view, the experience.
