After a long drive to have brunch somewhere on Elmwood, just to find the doors locked, I ventured over here to have lunch and it did not disappoint! First off, I was greeted and found staff friendly and efficient! You have plenty of options for seating .. dining area, front bar, back bar, even an outdoor patio bar. Although it is dive bar-esque, it was nice and clean (let's be honest .. some dives have a stench and stickiness that can definitely ruin your appetite, no matter how much you may love them). They have a set up for bands to play, as one was playing while I was there for their 2 year anniversary (congrats!). What was nice is although I could hear the band (it was playing in the back and I was up front), it wasn't over whelming me. I have eaten places where, no matter where you sit, it's extremely loud, and I appreciated that you had a choice here. Now onto the food: The food should have been doomed to fail; my tastebuds were prepared to eat sweet, buttery, syrupy French toast with a mocktail at brunch elsewhere. But wasn't hyped about the menu because of this (which is not dog and pony's fault .. I had to work and didn't have time to research where else brunch was available). I settled on the umami smashburger by a suggestion of my waitress. Now once again, could have been doomed to fail as I'm not a French fry person and my favorite cheeseburger is one I make on my own. BUT WOW their food blew me away and made me forget all about my brunch let-down. The French fries were fantastic and had a great seasoning on them! The smashburger was great to the last bite .. and I was NOT expecting to finish it as it was a really nice portion (I ate lunch now 10 hours ago and didn't need to eat again it was so filling!) but it was so dang gone good I sure finished it! We came here for lunch because we seen so many great reviews but man, what a disappointment. The bar area was nice, but the service and the food was not as everyone else described. I ordered the smash burger, my husband ordered the turkey sandwich. After we were waiting for our food for over 25 minutes, the server came over and said that he was just informed they don't have the turkey because they had an issue with that freezer. Ok, so my husband ordered the cheese steak because he was super excited for the bahn mi roll. My smash burger was alright, but the bread they use for their burgers remind me of those cheap buns you get from TOPS that just fall apart. The worst part was that they forgot the dog sauce on my burger, so I asked for the sauce, and THEY CHARGED ME FOR ASKING FOR SAUCE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ALREADY BE ON THE BURGER I ORDERED. My husband made sure to tell me after we already left because he knew I would have fought it and our already 1.5 hour long lunch date would have been longer waiting for the refund... He ordered the cheesesteak and the sandwich was so small, and the "bahn mi bun" wasn't even toasted which is a signature for bahn mi bread. He said the flavor was fine but nothing to rave about. The worst part, for me, were the French fries that came with both of our meals. They were soooo heavily peppered that they were inedible. We asked for ketchup to try to make them tolerable, and they gave us a pre-portioned small cup of ketchup... You serve french fries with most of your menu, why isn't there ketchup on the table?!? We LOVED this spot. Picked on a whim and so glad we did. I visited when it was a different place (Shupper House?) and was just unnnncomfortable for most of the time - this is a 180 and then some. Had an espresso martini and it's topped with what looks like house made whipped cream?! Love. We got calamari and wings and both were awesome - crispy, seasoned, great portion size. When you first arrive it's the bar in front then the seating in the back. It's nice and dark and has your average Irish bar feel. The service was great! First, the bar/restaurant is so cute. It's old school but modern. We had great service sitting at a table in the bar room. I think we got our food in 30 minutes on a Friday night. We got the bulgogi cheesesteak and the chuck Norris chicken sandwich with the chimichurri potato salad. We loved everything! The cheesesteak was spicy and cheesy and delicious beef. The breading on the chicken sandwich was delicious! It says it's spicy but it really wasn't. I would love to see a fish fry on the menu with the captain crunch coating! I had been wanting to try this place for a while, but it seemed like they're always super busy, full parking lot and cars parked all along the street every time we went by. There is not a method of reserving a table online. We decided to go in night before Thanksgiving around 5:30pm, early enough to beat the crowd. The front bar area was already pretty busy, still a couple of empty tables. We were invited to sit anywhere by the host, so we headed toward the quieter back room. The space is large with a second full bar, large tv screens on the walls, and an exit and bay door out to the patio. The overall decor is classic pub, welcoming and not too bright. The back room was spacious but it was cold, especially when someone opened a door to the patio, which happened a lot. The menu has a variety of dishes, and many gluten free choices, deciding what to try was hard, and we needed a little extra time. The braised short ribs and mashed potatoes were amazing. Hubs couldn't say enough about the burger and potato salad. I'm looking forward to my next visit so I can try something else. Please note that the address on Yelp (315) vs the actual address (2115) on Seneca St are in very different neighborhoods. I suggested the change, hopefully it gets approved. My first time at Dog and Pony and it won't be my last! Great location near Shea's Seneca, great to see what is happening in this area. I was able to meet a friend for dinner and I tried the Korean Brussels sprouts and the winter squash salad. Both were delicious, had hearty portions and left me full even though it was a veggie heavy meal. Sprouts were crispy, not too spicy and perfectly cooked. The salad had plenty of toppings and was a great mix of fall themed items. Service was awesome and she had some great pointers on the food and cocktail menu. The miso wings were crispy, and the Brussel sprouts were full of flavor. We got the shisito peppers and they were extremely hot. The server was wonderful and gave us a tip about peppers and when they are in season, they are hotter than when they are not. So, beware ordering peppers in the fall. New to the South Buffalo area, this pub has been getting a lot of buzz . Four of us dined on Friday night - I was impressed with our attentive server , she was on top of it ,despite the crowds . I chose Adobo Chicken on the specials menu . For $22, the entree was kind of small , but I really enjoyed the flavor of the dish and polished off my plate . Everyone else enjoyed their food at our table as well, except we all agreed that the chicken wings could have used more sauce . I was a bit concerned, as I noticed there was an additional $40 hold put on my credit card , but it was released after a few days . Thank God I have a friend who still reads the paper. He read an article in the gusto regarding this spot and said we have to go try. Glad we did. Food was super amazing. There is a parking lot on the side. We lucked up got spots out front. When first walking in, it's a small space, but I went to the bathroom and noticed another whole bar and table area with TV's. The menu has some interesting flavor profiles. I wanted to try it all. We started with the braised pork belly. They were juicy, flavorful and tender. For our meals we ordered Cluck Norris sandwhich, battered with Capitan crunch!!! The chicken was a thigh which of course absorbed all the other flavors that were in it(see menu) and was juicy and crunchy. Definitely a top 5 chicken sandwhich in buffalo with a reasonable price! As we waited for a table we ordered drinks. The Aperol Spritz was probably one of the better ones I have had. More citrusy and less bitter just the way I like it. As we sat down we ordered the pretzels with honey mustard and cheese for dipping. Nothing fancy but worked. At this time I ordered the espresso martini. This was prepared perfectly. Our meals were the steak frites and chicken francese.This is where the creativity and a great chef shine. The steak was lean and cooked besides being seasoned perfectly. I feel like a lot of restaurants that have steaks that are not steakhouses are not good. Either they are tough or grizzly this was not. This came with an arugula salad and garlic parmesan fries. Excellent accent to the steak. The chicken francese was so light and accented with fresh lemon and served a side of garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini. Great dish and hit the spot! We were greeted immediately when we came through the side entrance that passed the large outdoor indoor/outdoor bar seating area. The first bar area is very large with plenty of seating, eclectic artwork and a big screen TV. You then go through a small hallway that leads you to the front bar and dining area. We were seated immediately and our server, Lauren, was very nice and patient with our special requests and verybhelpful in getting information from the chef. The chef was very courteous as well. The food was really very good. My friend, is getting medical treatment from Roswell and had food requests which the chef accommodated. She had the Chicken Francese - chicken cutlets sautéed in a lemon butter sauce, whipped Yukon gold mashed potatoes and switched the broccolini with sliced carrots. I had the Steak Frite- an Angus reserve 14 oz NY Strip steak, chimichurri, garlic herb fries and an arugula salad. The steak was cooked exactly as I requested and well seasoned. The chimichurri sauce was quite good and complemented the steak really well. It was delicious!! I'm not a fan of arugula but the presentation was really spot on. My only issue was the garlic fries. They were overly seasoned with a lot of salt and garlic and way too many on the plate. The overall staff from bartenwaitstaff waitstaff were smiling, friendly and made you feel welcome. The decor in the main dining area was a little more subtle but very nice. We would definitely go again and we highly recommend this restaurant! read more
