    Steak sandwich
    Brandon G.

This is exactly the kind of place I would eat lunch at everyday if I worked downtown. I walked in close to when they opened and the owner was there to welcome me in. He was a really nice guy and told me what his best menu items were. I had heard good things about the steak sandwich and hadn't had one in a while. I opted to get that with some fries. The fries were the best fries I've had. They taste like the ones from McDonald's only better because they aren't doused in salt. The sandwich was perfect. The steak was cooked exactly like it should be and the flavor was incredible. The peppers and onions on top added even more flavor but didn't overpower it. I don't think I've eaten anything faster in recent memory. No take out boxes needed here. The meal is too good not to eat right then. The bar also had a great vibe to it. I'm a big fan of old school style bars and establishments like this. The traditional architecture and nostalgic feeling is perfect here. It's not modernized like every other new bar built in the last decade. It's got character, a great menu, and excellent service. I will definitely be back for more lunch specials and enjoy this spot downtown.

Went for lunch twice in the last two weeks and both times what I had was delicious! First, it was the steak sandwich which was a bit different than anywhere else I've tried it before, but really satisfying and this week, it was the meatloaf special which came with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. The owner/ bar keep was real friendly and personable, and the whole dining atmosphere was relaxed, and low-key. Just my kind of vibe.

10 out of 5 stars. Wow. The owner took care of us personally (Patrick). [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is so amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We're here from California and this is the BEST food we had on our whole trip. With amazing personal service. This is a must visit.

The man at the counter was so welcoming and we got our pick of a table or bar seat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar was clean and had cute kitschy decor you'd associate with a good Irish neighborhood bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It took literally 2 minutes for the kitchen to make our sandwich... We shared a beef on weck, which was fabulous and smothered in au jus. The thin, crispy fries "went crazy" and went well with the plentiful Weber's mustard and ketchup available. The guy at the counter was so friendly and even gave us a special house-made treat for free!! For anyone who remembers "Christmas crack" (crackers baked with sugar and chocolate on top) from TikTok, it's exactly that and really hit the spot after the savory meal. Check out Eddie Brady's for a spectacular meal and beer!

Stopped by Eddie Brady's Tavern for the first time, and it was a great experience! The food was fantastic. I tried the classic Beef on Weck and the Reuben, and both were incredible. The beef on weck was tender and juicy, paired perfectly with the salty kummelweck roll, while the Reuben was packed with flavorful corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, and melted Swiss, all on perfectly grilled rye. You can tell they take pride in their sandwiches. The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect from a bar, casual and no-frills. But it's a great spot for lunch if you're looking for a quieter, less rowdy crowd during the day. Service was friendly too! Eddie Brady's is definitely worth a visit if you're craving hearty, classic sandwiches. Can't wait to come back!

Fish fry with fries, Mac salad and coleslaw

Went to Eddie Brady's to try the fish fry on Friday. It was busy but we got seats at the bar and ate there. Service was quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's small in there so be prepared to maybe wait a little on a busy night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The fish fry came with Mac salad (which was really good!) coleslaw and lots of fries. Gotta give it 5 stars since service was quick and food was good! Big portions as well.

    Reuben and onion rings

Had the Reuben with onion rings and the New England clam chowder. Reuben came out hot and the onion rings were not over breaded. The chowder was very good. Plenty of clams with fresh red potatoes and celery. Not too thick. Tavern was very clean.

Spicy veggie quesadilla, Octoberfest beer, that cool cash register and of course, PATRICK!

Looking for a place to grab a beer and a quick bite without spending a lot, and Eddie Brady's was perfect! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Love the older buildings, tin ceilings, dark wood, and a gorgeous ancient cash register.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Patrick was behind the bar, took my Vegetarian quesadilla order and it was served quickly. One of the best I've had, nice and hot, came with spicy dipping sauce and crammed with veggies (and Jalapenos!) Want to go back again when I'm attending a concert downtown - and try the fish fry! Skip the fancy, pricey joints and try them instead. You won't be disappointed!!

I visit the city every year in the fall, and I am still trying all of the wing places that have been recommended. The latest on my list was Doc Sullivan's, a very, VERY local watering hole. This is the kind of place that makes you immediately remember that you are absolutely not from here, but in the best possible way. Doc's is a historic, no-frills neighborhood pub smack in the heart of South Buffalo's Irish Heritage district. The second we walked in as clearly obvious outsiders, the entire room of rough-and-tumble regulars seemed to pause their conversations, turn towards the door, and stare at us. Even the bartender (who also doubled as the host and our waiter) clocked us immediately with a cheerful, "Hey visitors!" It was hilarious and broke the awkwardness we were starting to feel. Everyone was incredibly nice and welcoming once the moment passed, but it was clear we stood out from the regular crowd. If you have an aversion to dive bars, this is not the place for you because Doc's is not fancy. It's well-worn and smells like Fabuloso cleaner mixed with stale cigarette smoke and old beer. I was surprised at how clean the place was, but it does have that dive bar smell and feel. I felt like I'd walked onto a movie set because this place screams Buffalo, and does so loudly and proudly. I'm not a fan of chicken wings, but my hubby is. Food-wise, he ordered a half dozen of the famous Smitty Wings at the suggestion of the bartender, which come coated in the house's unique spiced butter sauce along with a half dozen with hot sauce. He liked the Smitty wings fine, but preferred the classic hot Buffalo wings, which he said had legit heat and were "more than decent." Not his all-time favorite wings, but still tasty and meaty enough to earn his respect. I went with the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was massive. It was a fried chicken breast patty on a super soft, fresh roll with lettuce, tomato, and onions, tossed in a mild Buffalo sauce that had just enough heat for a timid spice girl like me. The quality was good, but not great, and it was basically the same chicken sandwich you can get at dozens of places around town (it was very similar to the same menu item at the Anchor Bar, for example). The fries were nothing special, and they tasted like regular old french fries you'd get at your local deli. They were freshly fried, hot and crispy, and we both appreciated that malt vinegar was already on the table. We had a good experience at Doc Sullivan's, but agreed that we would not go out of our way to eat here again. I wouldn't call it a must-do for foodies, but I'm still really glad we went. While the food wasn't all that memorable, it felt like a true local Buffalo experience that you don't get at polished, tourist-friendly spots. This is the place if you want to soak up local character and are seeking another stop on your buffalo wing eating tour.

The smitty wings just tasted like mild buffalo sauce and the honey cajun was pretty good. My issue was with the "ranch" sauce because it tasted like straight horseradish and every bite left a bitter aftertaste. The poutine fries would've been good if they didn't make the gravy with the power of the pacific ocean with how salty it is. All time favorite is def it's the hot honey pizza rolls, so bomb!

There are not enough gluten free options - I had to be creative with what I ordered. They have gluten free rolls if you want a sandwich but everything else will have gluten, thus the Cesar salad without the croutons. It's very pricey as well. I really wanted to try the vegetarian shepherds pie but couldn't because the server said there's wheat in the gravy. They have no gluten free beers as far as I could tell and no mocktails. We were greeted right away when we walked in, which was a great start. However, after being seated on the patio, we waited about 20 minutes before a server came over. Drinks also took quite a while to arrive. I ordered a brown sugar bourbon cocktail, but it was disappointing--basically just tasted like straight bourbon with little to no flavor. For food, I tried the Reuben poutine appetizer ($20). Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the price. The cheese seemed very processed--hard to even describe, and definitely not what I expected. The fried Reuben itself was just okay, but overall it felt overpriced for what it was. In the end, I wouldn't necessarily discourage someone from trying it, but it's not somewhere I'd personally return to. The experience just didn't match the cost or leave much of a positive impression.

I got into Canada early, so I decided to go have some lunch. I walked in, and immediately felt like I just came home. The bartender, this lovely young woman named Onya, came up and took my order. I ordered a black and tan. She suggested I go for the smooth black and tan which I did. It did not disappoint! I may have to have my black and tans like this for the rest of my life. I ordered a cup of the buffalo wing chowder, and she said it's one of the most popular items on the menu. I asked her to bring that out first before my Classic Caesar salad. Let me tell you something about that soup. Now I'm not a big soup guy, but I do like chowders, and this was the absolute best I've ever had. Had. I've had clam chowder all over the United States but man this one absolutely nails it! It has that buffalo wing flavor which just perfect and not overpowering. I should have gotten the bigger bowl of it instead of the cup. Now let's talk about the Caesar salad. It was absolutely perfect! It had the perfect ratio of dressing to lettuce, not just poured on top like most places but actually tossed. Onya said she did it herself, so massive kudos for her going above and beyond the call of duty. Overall this meal hit on all cylinders and did not disappoint. I will definitely be back here a couple more times while I'm in Canada. If you need to find me, you know where to find me. The bottom line? You really need to get the buffalo chicken wing chowder. It is absolutely an amazing soup and will change your life. And if you like a good classic Caesar, you can't do better than this one!
