Best sports bar in the Elmwood area. Forty Thieves has better than the usual bar food. It also has a few plant based options. Menu otherwise is mostly meaty. The prices are kind of high for portions. A good amount of seating options inside. It's got the main bar area along with with a few tables around it. There's also upstairs. A few tables outside on the patio. They have no cocktail menu so just get whatever. It's about $9 for a basic mixer. The good is pretty pricey. It's about $17 for the Beyond Burger. This is one of the few non meaty options. Basic. This comes with a side and is topped with the usual lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. For sure it's an okay place for watching a game. It's on Elmwood at Breckenridge in the neighborhood of the same name if it wasn't already obvious. The menu is mostly burgers but there's a few options for vegetarians. read more

This trip was much better than last! Cecilia is a gem and wayyyyyyy better server than the girl last time. Shout out to Cecilia!!!!!! Food was amazing. We ordered the burger because it was so good last, but we also ordered the Rueben tonight as well. The Rueben was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had... completely next level! Place was busy and loud but it didn't mind. We lucked out on parking and found a spot right in front. The 40 sauce wings were spot on as always!!! read more

We had lunch at Forty Thieves, and the food was fine. Unfortunately, our experience after leaving was very concerning. When we got home, our credit card company alerted us to two fraudulent charges on the credit card we had used for lunch. This was the only business where our credit card was taken out of our sight and returned to us that day, so naturally it raised concerns. What has been even more disappointing is the complete lack of response from management. We have called four separate times, each time being told there was no manager available. We left our name, phone number, and a detailed message on every call, yet no one has returned our calls. We understand that fraudulent charges can happen for many reasons, and we're not accusing anyone of wrongdoing. However, when a customer experiences something this serious, the least a business can do is respond promptly and take the concern seriously. The lack of communication has been extremely disappointing. read more

Used to come here all the time when I lived on West Ferry. Super glad to come back. I remembered it being one of my favorite French onion soup spots so even on a hot summer day I got it and was exactly how I remembered. We got a giant pretzel to share and it truly was gigantic. Sandwiches were fantastic. My Nashville chicken was very flavorful and Brooke's Ruben was packed with meat. They offer gluten free rolls which was great for my dad, but he is new to gluten free so when he also ordered a Nashville sandwich on a gluten free bun the server came back and asked if he wanted the chicken grilled instead, my dad not realizing the breading on the chicken would have gluten. Great beer selection as well read more

Stopped in here our first night in Buffalo and we were thrilled. This is a great, slightly dive-y but in a good way, neighborhood bar and restaurant. We decided to start with an order of the classic Buffalo wings and the giant pretzel. The wings were amazing and the pretzel was the single largest soft pretzel I have ever seen. We probably should have stopped there, but we underestimated the pretzel and hot entrees too. The stack burger was classic, juicy and loaded and the seasonal corned beef and cabbage dinner was delicious. The service was great and the beer was cold and crisp. If you want a great intro to Buffalo, amazing wings, and a chill vibe, swing over to Elmwood and try this place out. read more

Poor service. Sat at bar for over 10 minutes- no acknowledgment. Ignored me and my girlfriend.

Small but cool place on Elmwood in Buffalo. I was impressed by the pretzel so that's definitely a must have if you stop in! The Reuben was also really good and piled high with corned beef. The thick cut rye was also a nice touch! Seating is a bit of a struggle because the place is so small but if you don't mind sitting by the bar and ordering your own food you can sit down quicker. read more

It's a cool place but small! The wait is long for a table so we sat in the bar area that is first come first served and you have to share the table with other people but it worked out fine. There is also no servers so you have to go to the bar to order drinks and food. There was a lot of people there for the hockey game so it was busy and loud so be prepared for that. The food was really good and portion sizes are huge. It's been on my list for a long time so I'm glad I finally had the chance to check it out. read more

Came in on a Friday night and the service was very on point. Quinn was the bartender she is as beautiful as her service is. Never waited for a drink. Very enjoyable experience. Food was awesome. If you get the pretzel share it with the whole bar. read more

Unfortunately they were down to one chef when we went, but that didn't impact our service much except that the menu was reduced to burgers, salads and soups. Got the PBJ burger and fries. The flavor of the PBJ burger was absolutely what you'd expect, sweet and savory and satiating. The fries were a little than shoestring, and fried to perfection. My friends all ordered wings of various flavors and they were a good size and fried the way a Buffalo chicken wing should be. The waitress was very attentive and funny. My only complaint was that the room was pretty loud so it was difficult to have a conversation. Not much you can do about that I imagine. read more

First of all we were seated outside - which we requested in a dark little corner. Under a tv which was blaring sound at another tv and there was an echo. WOW. Of course they honored my request to turn the sound off on the one over our head but why would anyone think that was ok to begin with? I ordered a sandwich but asked for it on a wrap and with red onion. Got it on their really no good schiacciata and no onion. Guess what she said? I didn't hear you. Lol. No wonder. My husband was served his sandwich with a side salad and no silverware which she noticed right away but he ate half the sandwich before the silverware turned up. And the food was not at all tasty. Grilled chicken with pesto. Turkey Brie Awful French fries. Ok. That's enough. Lots of other good places to eat in Buffalo. read more

Atmosphere was amazing. Our table overlooked the bar! Service was fantastic! Cecilia was amazing, very attentive and very helpful on the menu. Ordered wings hot and are ranked in my opinion top 3 in Buffalo! Just behind Kelly's Korner and Nine Eleven. Wings were crispy but still juicy. Blue cheese was very good. Slightly chunky. Also ordered wings with forty sauce which were just as good. Loved the sauce. And we ordered the poutine which was one of the best poutines! Highly recommend this place and we will be coming back again. read more

I'm so disappointed to have to write this but that's the point of this platform. I've been a fan of forty thieves for years. Their food is great I love the atmosphere, good beer selection you name it. Today ended all of it. I ordered my usual pb and j burger and it was great as ever. My fiancé ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. I know what a Nashville hot chicken sandwich is. She knows what a Nashville hot chicken sandwich is. It's hot but it isn't fire on a bun. Their verison of the sandwich is fire on a bun. She tried it and it was inedible so I tried it and it was too hot for me and I like spice. I contacted the waitress and asked for something else because it was inedible and they provided us with another meal no issues. Unfortunately they intended for us to still pay for the Nashville sandwich because "we ordered it" and "there's nothing wrong with it." I now proceed to argue with the waitress that the sandwich is not edible at this spice level and she says don't you know what a Nashville chicken sandwich is? Don't patronize me. I've been to Nashville plenty of times and we order them all over this city and many others and none have ever been this spicy. I ask to speak go a manager. A large guy gets up from the bar and this is the part that upset me. Gets in my face hovering over me and we'll within my personal space and says what's the problem. I explain about the sandwich and he says the same don't you know what it is it's supposed to be hot. I again explain hot is hot fire is fire. It's not edible. To his credit he comped the sandwich but I received no further communication from the manager and the waitress apologized explaining that people are responsible for what they order and we don't usually do this. Now I've been to a lot of places and I can tell you with a certainty I have never ever had somebody argue with me and treat customers this way. That alone is one thing, to have the manager stand over me attempting to intimidate me and get in my face and personal space is beyond anything I have ever experienced. I will never ever ever return to this place. Not for free not if that guy is fired, NEVER. Worst customer service experience of my life and I'll make sure to let everybody I know aware of what happened. In the service business the customer is the priority. I hope it was worth losing us and all those I tell over a chicken sandwich. read more

RUDE!! I guess unless you walk in looking super cute you will be the forgotten customer. And when they get your drink order wrong from the get go. It's a warning to leave before your food arrives. driving through back home to the midwest! looked through a TON of reviews for a great stop in buffalo, specifically to visit Elmwood Village. Picked this restaurant. Nice crowd when we were there but the service was very fast and friendly. We ordered some great eats. To begin we had some yummy soups to begin while we waited for our wings. We had the Chorizo corn chowder and the Fresh Onion. So good. The French fries came out piping hot and the portion was huge. The wings were perfect. We ordered the Cajun BBQ and the medium hot. The beverage selection has something for everyone. Come check this place out:) read more

Low to mid tiered quality. Even though it's buffalo, it shouldn't be so far food, salty process, and all the things. It's fine for a beer for my age...but I was clearly out of the age range at this place. Hipsterish burger joint w huge french fry offerings, pretzels. Exploring places this week that are new to us. Settled on Forty Thieves for today. City parking is always an adventure around lunchtime downtown. Very cool vibe to this place. Patio seating available right on Elmwood for people watching. We chose indoors where the dining area is up in a loft like second level. Clean and simple. The service was very good. Wife got the French Onion soup, which she said was very good. We went with Handhelds, Steak Hoagie and Tenderloin Sandwich. Both were fantastic, and they were both huge. I chose salad for my side instead of fries. Salad was big, it could have been lunch on its own! Super fresh produce too. Saw another table's wings and fingers and they looked incredible as well. Biggest chicken fingers I've ever seen. Prices were very reasonable IMO. We'll be back for sure. read more

First the serving sizes are huge. Poutine appetizer was not disappointing. Why is Poutine not a thing south of the Canadian border? The strawberry goat cheese salad with chicken was enough for a family of 4, as were the nachos. We were told a 25 -30 minute wait for a table. But we were texted about 10-15 minutes later. It's a bar so it's a tad loud. There's seating upstairs & downstairs. It was about 40 degrees out and people were sitting on the enclosed front patio. We walked from our Airbnb. The food was really good but don't be shy about sharing. read more

To start off, we were seated right away which was great, except when our server came over, she looked like she did not want to be there at all. Not the best vibe from her. Food: Chicken Wings 9/10. I asked for crispy, and they were perfect. The crisp on the outside was amazing. I would definitely eat wings here again! -Garlic Parm: pretty good, I think they just needed to be a touch more flavorful. -Beef on Weck: super interesting. I like that they had something different as a wing flavor, and it's a buffalo favorite! The sauce was not terrible. You could taste the horseradish in it, which isn't my favorite, but luckily these were my friends pick. Loaded fries 8/10. The cheese was spicy, it had a jalapeño flavor. I would love to come back here and try so many more items from their menu. Everything sounded really good! read more

If you walk out of this place hungry.....well I'll just leave it at that, portions are enormous. Split some wings with a friend which were above average, cooked right and some medium and BBQ with a nice tang. My sandwich felt like it had half a pound of meat on it, thick cut and delicious. Opted for the Mac salad and it was overflowing also. They of course have a great beer selection and our waitress was readily available. They used to allow dogs but no more apparently hence the 4 star review. read more

Forty Thieves - Fried Bologna - Pubs Near Me - Buffalo, New York

Our next establishment, Forty Thieves Kitchen & Bar, was apparently named after the first New York city street gang, descendant from Irish immigrants in Manhattan and not the Forty Thieves who were boiled in oil (and tossed with Frank's Red Hot and butter) by Ali Baba's maid when they tried to kill Ali after he stole their riches using the secret password "Open Sesame". I know, you came for the wing review, not the social studies lesson. Location: 4.5 / 5 Just when we were starting to think a wing establishment with clean floors and great service was a unicorn, we stumbled onto another one. And the ambiance was exceptional. If the parking situation wasn't so difficult, we'd be looking at a perfect score here. Presentation: 5 / 5 Perfection. Separate aluminum trays for each flavor, wings separated by flats and drums, plated with home-made bleu cheese and porcelain (no paper, no plastic) plates. "As good as Barbill". Meat: 4 / 5 Good meat distribution and consistency but not the plumpest wings, a couple scrawnies. Cook: 9 / 10 The wait time on these wings was perfect. Not too fast to suspect they've been pre-cooked and not too slow that Tim Sauda has enough time to order too many Old Fashioneds. These were one of the best cooks yet. Saucy without being wet and crispy without being dry. Standard: 13 / 15 Just an outstanding flavor and the application of sauce was ideal. One Wing King thought the sauce may have been a tad too salty, which is a common sentiment at many establishments. When you're a Wing King, you learn to keep a gallon of water next to your bed on wing nights. Specialty: 9 / 10 Wow, a VERY strong showing in the specialty category. While the pit BBQ were not our favorite, Hot garlic parm, Southie gold and Forty Sauce were all comparably awesome. Overall: 44.5 / 50 Just an amazingly balanced scorecard. Whether its named after Irish gangsters or murderous, Arabian criminals, you have to admire a bar that chooses a "bad guy" brand and still delivers. No weak spots. read more

One of the great losses of COVID was that Sin City Farm Girl moved to live on another farm, this time just outside of Buffalo, NY, and did this during lockdown so I couldn't even go help her move, cry, tie myself to the moving truck or anything. Her hubster took a job up there. Sigh. So, this summer, with the NMA and I fully vaxxed, we road tripped up to their new place, which is gorgeous. All of upstate New York is gorgeous in the summer, it's lush and green and vibrant, as if in defiance of the cold and snow that suppresses them every winter. SCFG and I are master thrifters, and so OF COURSE we went hunting, and of course we need refreshments. One of these was Forty Thieves, which has a nice open space, decently ventilated, because COVID is definitely still a thing. We arrive and are seated pretty promptly. Both of us are hungry so we order an appetizer of a "Bavarian Pretzel", then salads. Understand that the pretzel is a meal. It's Jabba the Hutt sized. Knife and Fork sized. Huge. Also quite good, with a crisp edge and warm wonderful chewy doughy center. Likewise the salads are massive, great big piles of fresh greens and tidbits and lovely dressing that accents but does not smother the greens. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, service was good, and the price was reasonable. I expect next time we road trip up there this will be on the dining itinerary, though we will be ordering only ONE pretzel and ONE salad to split, I think. read more

We were tired after a long road trip and this place looked OK, but it wasn't. First, a rant about QR codes: Crankypants does not want to scan it to review the 40 beers you have and make his choice. He wants to tell you what kind of beer he wants, and have you make a couple of suggestions. It's called customer service. The menu is pretty heavy on sandwiches without much in the way of creative selections. I thought I could play it safe by ordering a Cobb salad. Not sure what they brought me, but it wasn't a Cobb salad. No grilled chicken, no sliced avocado, no blue cheese crumbles or blue cheese dressing. It did hav3 some pre-shredded cheddar cheese, an excessive quantity of red onion, and a pile of stale croutons. Just don't put this item on the menu if you don't know how to make it. To the waiter's credit, he did remove my salad from the bill. read more

Went for a sit-down brunch today. Food was tasty, and service was fantastic. Honestly though, the food, while good, made me miss Blue Monk. The room decorations are really cool, covered in old photos throughout Buffalo's history, but the place is wallpapered with televisions- and they are all on! The entire menu was bar food, and while it was tasty, it was not food that stirred the soul. Filled the belly well, and the food tasted good... but it was not an inspiring meal. Blue Monk was filled with unique and interesting food. While they only had one of four salads listed on their menu available at 1145am, at least the men offered a $15 plate of Totino's Pizza Rolls... for real. I would eat there in the future, but I wouldn't be setting it as a priority destination. read more
