While I've been here for drinks this was my first time enjoying the food here. It was the perfect way to end a fall evening and we enjoyed some yummy comfort food. The menu had a lot of variety in burgers, sandwiches, snacks, beer and a full bar. We noticed that the snacks being brought out for other tables were hearty portions, perfect for a meal or to share with friends. We did witness possibly the largest hot pretzel we had ever seen in our lives. We bookmarked it and will try it another day. It was hard to narrow down the menu but we finally settled on the Buffalo chicken sandwich and the burger special which was the French onion soup burger (brought over from Doc Sullivan's). The portions were very generous and I appreciated that I could sub in a side salad instead of fries. Everything was tasty, fresh and delicious. The burger had so much flavor and the onions were cooked well so the flavor wasn't overpowering. The broiled cheese on top the bun was a perfect touch. The salad had a yummy home made Greek goddess dressing which was a nice touch and something a little different that I enjoyed. I was told that the chicken sandwich was also very tasty and made my significant other happy that he chose it. We will def be back another time to try other stuff. read more

Upon entrance we were seated in the upper part of the restaurant and unfortunately near a few fan units that were running. It was very uncomfortably cold to sit and enjoy our time. While the food was good, we had some complications with the fries that were served. We had ordered the 40 style fries and they were unbelievably soggy, and not even cooked all the way. I understand that there's sauce that goes on but it was terribly greasy and would have given someone a heart attack, not even edible. Other than that, our other food was amazing. In addition, our server was rude. She did not come to our table much and was too busy with people ordering drinks, and being at the bar half of the time, and did not come to our table much at all. Also the server was very unenthusiastic and rude about me asking to turn the fan off of us (it was terribly cold) and the fact that our fries were greasy. Also argued that the fries came like that. A pool of grease? I don't think so. Aside from the service it was great. read more

Looooooveeeee. I had been meaning to try this place for a while, I had been recommended it by a few different people. I went on a sunday night around 7pm. It was crowded, about a 30 minute wait. The inside of the restaurant really isn't as big as you'd think. Service was friendly but not fast. I don't think there was a cocktail menu, but the drinks we had were really good. The foooood!!! Burger was fantastic and the wings were amazing! I was very surprised by the wings. We ordered ten. You aren't able to get half and half (like 5 of one flavor and 5 of another) but you are able to combine flavors. Our server recommended Southie Gold and Cajun mixed together. So good!! Not too spicy or too sweet, just right! Not the biggest menu, but what they have is really good. Prices aren't crazy, Portions are good. Highly recommend. Great Elmwood restauraunt. read more

The food took an excessively long time to come out. The place overall was too loud. It's one thing to not be able to hear someone across the table, but I couldn't hear the people next to me. The waitress never brought us napkins after the food came out and we needed to get some downstairs from the bar on our own. Four out of seven of our dishes didn't taste good (cold fries, burger temp, seasoning). One dish was so poorly done it was inedible. We told the waitress and she did not care. We went a few years ago and had a great time, but now we won't go back. read more

I've been here a couple of times and really enjoy the vibes of this place! I know street parking can be tough at times in this area but it's worth coming here. I've only tried the pesto chicken sandwich so I can only speak about that. The portions are huge and I can generally make 2 additional meals for myself with the leftovers. There aren't that many tables here but I often come during the weekdays and there is no wait. read more

We just ate at Forty Thieves tonight- May 14th, 2025. The restaurant was not busy and it took 1 1/2 hours to get our food. A table near us who sat down after us got their food first. We ordered burgers and grilled chicken. Our server went MIA for at least 30 minutes until I went to the bar to find her and tell her we were leaving. She asked if we would wait while she checked the kitchen. Our food then came out lukewarm. Our fries and soup were terrible. We told our waitress and she did nothing - not even apologize. We will never come back here. I hope management addresses this issue!! read more

The homemade french fries are amazing here! The outside patio and indoor area are very nice, but cramped when there are a lot of people. My fiance had the Peanut butter and jelly burger and I got to try it and it was amazing! I tried the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich and it was horrible. It was spicy just for the sake of being spicy, I couldn't eat it as it was equivalent to putting a shot if hot sauce in my mouth. Wholely ineable as not only was it extremely spicy, but the chicken and bun were soggy and falling apart. I only took two bites and asked for a new sandwich all together. When the check came they had put the sandwich in the bill and the waitress made a huge deal about us paying for it since the kitchen made it for us and we took a bite, until she got the manager over who tried to intimidate me by standing extremely close and making himself stand tall to look bigger and we explained the situation. He begrudgingly comped the sandwich and we paid and went on our way. It was extremely dissapointing as the fries, other sandwich I got along with the PV&J burger were delicious, but we will not go back for how we were treated. read more

Unfortunately, we will not be able to review the actual restaurant itself or the food because when we came in with a 12 pound service dog completely vested on a leash and asked to sit on the patio we were rudely abruptly told we could not have the dog in the restaurant anywhere, and by law, you should be able to have your dog And we did not wanna cause a scene so we turned around and walked out, but someday they're going to encounter someone with a service animal and do what they did to us and they will have a handful of problems!!! The restaurant should be very much aware of the laws regarding service animals. He also has his identification card totally certified. This was totally uncalled for and especially his attitude talking to us the way they did we're seniors and showed no respect. read more

Good music good atmosphere good drinks they made one of my favorite spinach and artichoke dips that came in bread bowl delish

Honestly for a brewery I think they are doing everything right, from the atmosphere, to the food, to the service. Very cool interior with the bar on the lower tier and a nice seating area on an upper tier inside. It's a little loud but expected for a brewery. Our waitress was really awesome, friendly and knew her stuff. I wish I could remember her name! But she had great suggestions and was more then willing to let us sample some beer before ordering them. The food was also really great and portions were huge! We ordered a bunch of items from the menu to share and it was great to try so many delicious foods. Nachos: they come in beef or chicken, we ordered pulled chicken and they certainly do not skimp! The queso will also rock your socks off and they load it on (get your napkins ready). More then enough for at least 3 people to eat these! Cobb salad: this salad would probably make any one enjoy their greens! Perfectly lightly dressed and great portion of delicious juicy chicken on top, very fresh greens and good helping of eggs, bacon, and avocado on there too. Large portion and would certainly come back for this alone! Garlic parm French fries: truthfully not my favourite because I'm not a fan of crinkle cut but large portion which is nice for the table to share. Tad salty for me and most likely would try something else before ordering these again. I certainly recommend Forty Thieves for good food and service and a great beer menu! Crowd is fun too and open till 2am! Can't wait to come back here! read more

I think about the vegan hoagie Forty Thieves's excellent kitchen dreamed up way too much but let's start from the beginning. We came for lunch the day before the blizzard hit and the restaurant was packed. Yet our gem of a server, the aforementioned kitchen, and the manager of the restaurant who swung by our table to ask "would you mind if we added vegan mayo, vegan cheese and sautéed portobello mushrooms to your order?" all went a million miles out of their way to transform the makeshift "steak" hoagie (hold the steak) I ordered into two- yes two!- properly gooey, stick-to-your-ribs vegetable "hoagies" loaded with caramelized onions , grilled peppers and sautéed mushrooms on toasty gluten-free rolls brushed with olive oil. My order came with French fries and they were piping-hot, crispy, and nice and salty. Pictures say a thousand words in this instance so I'll end here. read more

Omgoodness the French onion soup was amazing. The PB & J hamburger soooo good. Wife loved her Rachel that they turned into a Reuben for her. Service was friendly and quick. We want one in Austin TX! Loved the picture wallpaper of how Buffalo looked a long time ago. read more

Terrible security working at the bar, every time I go there they get a new Neanderthal that examines everyone's ID for 5 minutes.

We came in as a group of 5 on a Sunday while visiting Elmwood. We were hoping for a quick, casual bite before going back to shopping. We were seated right away and served drinks. We started with the fried pickles for the table - super delicious! Then our waitress took our main orders; she did not write any of it down or have a notepad. Maybe we jinxed ourselves because as she walked away we were like "wow how will she remember all that!". You can see where this is going. We ordered 2 x beyond burgers (no cheese), the portabella sandwich, the turkey brie club, and the stack burger, all with a mix of sides between fries and salads. Probably worth writing down as it's a larger order. Everything came out at once about 15 minutes later, but somehow all mixed up. Sides were wrong, one beyond burger had nothing but shredded lettuce on it (??), the other had cheese for someone who doesn't eat dairy and fries when they asked for a salad. The side salads were a mix of either romaine lettuce mix with shredded cheese on top, a Caesar salad, and a Mediterranean-esque salad. I think the kitchen was just riffing at that point. The corrected beyond burger took another 20 minutes to come out while everyone else's food went cold. The turkey brie was good, the stack burger was good but very meat heavy (literally just several patties all stacked and smushed together). We also ordered an iced coffee that just never came out and wasn't on the receipt. Probably will be back since there aren't many good options on Elmwood but please write orders down! read more

The food was ok. The atmosphere was very interesting. Lots and lots of suspicious activity in the bathrooms. Sat near the restrooms where the restrooms were constantly filled with multiple people and the same people going in and out over and over again. There was even a person keeping watch at the door. The interesting part about it is the staff was also partaking in this activity. I wonder if the drugs are better than the food! I don't think i'll be returning read more

More than a sports bar. Though the Bills game was on and plenty of fans crowded the front bar area. We made it to the back and upstairs to a table. But we could see the game from afar. We found the chicken wings outstanding. Can't beat the 50 cent wing special. They were crispy saucy and zingy- that's a medium order. My daughter ordered a burger. It really was yummy, the meat patty seasoned nice. The fries were delish and plenty. Bill was around $24, not bad for a very decent lunch. The waitress was smiling and sweet. We strolled down Elmwood window shopping after lunch. Nice outing on a Sunday. read more

I went here for the first time on 1/30/24. Prior to that I had ordered a few times thru food delivery apps. It is a go to for the nachos and burgers. We stopped in there for a few drinks and chicken wings this time around. The inside is really cute, they have two levels and it is an open floor concept. They also have an outdoor patio in the side, obviously during this time of year it was closed off. The bar did not have Tito's vodka which threw me off a bit but it wasn't an issue as they had plenty of other vodka's to choose from . We ordered chicken wings 1/2 with the Forty Sauce and the other 1/2 Southie Gold. The Forty sauce is similar to a hot sauce (think a little heavier than Franks) with a heavy heap of pepper. The Southie Gold was similar to a honey mustard sauce. While both were delicious, the sauce was definitely heavy. If you are someone who prefers your wings extra crispy these might not be it for you. The blue cheese was lackluster as well. I've come to expect some creativity when it comes to restaurant blue cheese and this one wasn't anything special. Overall, were they the best chicken wings I've ver had? No. Will I absolutely go back order more nachos, burgers and have some drinks and laughs? Yes. The staff was excellent and knowledgeable as well. I enjoyed my time! read more

I'm not a big review person but we did dinner at Forty Theives for a friend's birthday and I was blown away by the chicken wings and friendly service. It's not every day when you both love and hate a place. On a recent Saturday I was on the prowl to find the best Guinness pour in WNY which brought me to the happening bar/restaurant Forty Thieves. I both loved and hated it - why? I loved the bar but felt sooooo old. I was served promptly greeted and served my black gold in a proper Guinness glass. The server was friendly, attentive and served me promptly. I watched as the bartender did a proper 119.5 second pour. The cost of the cold stuff was a well-priced $7. As I sipped my beer, I saw how young the crowd was. Yikes! Some of these people could be my grandchildren. I was feeling pretty old lol, but I didn't let that prevent me from enjoying a black gold drink. Could have been a few degrees colder but I'm splitting hairs at this point. Forty Thieves is a great place to go if you're in your 20s to late 30s. All the young people having so much fun just made me feel that my time there was best limited to a pint or two. read more

This place was great! Much more than just "Bar food". The portions were huge. The food was real good. They have Gluten free rolls & staff is very familiar with issues related to allergies. The three of us all liked what was pictured. The staff was very friendly & accommodating. The only thing I'd suggest is they get a bigger sign for out front. I would go back to this place anytime. Monday night is wing night (75 cent a piece) so my friend and I decided to sit at the bar and check this place out. During Happy Hour you can get $5 Moscow Mules, $6 drafts, and $2 off cocktails. The Moscow mule was tasty and served in the proper copper cup. Only mild , medium, and hot wings were on special + $1 for blue cheese, carrots and celery, (bummer) so we got 10 mild and splurged for 10 spicy garlic parm ($13) ..... and while both wings were good, the parm ones were flavorful and had just enough kick. Our bartender went through the motions but could have been friendlier, they weren't exactly busy. I would come back though considering they have decent wings and a nice selection of craft beers on draft that I would like to take advantage of for $6. read more

Went here for the first time and it did not disappoint. I got the southie gold wings and man that sauce is everything a chicken wing should be. I would have loved to try the beef on weck sauce but wasn't that adventurous that day. Can't wait to go back and try some more. The portion sizes are insane, my one sister got the chicken fingers and it was easily a meal for two. My other sister (who needs gluten free), got the gluten free Rachael and it came on two sandwiches to make up for needing the gluten free roll! (I guess regular roll is just that big). The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because they stuck us in the outside area and told it was warm back there.. it was indeed not warm lol. But our fault for agreeing to go back there. I definitely classify myself as an adventurous eater. I have my go to favorites, but I will try recommendations from people I like and trust. so when when my friend who lives in the area said the PB&J burger was really good, I was intrigued and had to try it! it wasn't just good, it was "goddamn, what is this burger" good. it's made with peanut butter, bacon, blackberry bacon jam, and swiss cheese, on a brioche bun--YUM. my only critique is of myself, and why did I get an appetizer and fill myself up before this beauty eclipsed me with her presence. but the chorizo corn chowder was good too, so really--no regrets. ps, get the bread bowl, and thank me later. ;) we all got the K2 Brothers Blue Razz Sour, brewed locally in Rochester, NY. atmosphere is loud, especially on game days, but that was expected, right? we found street parking right in front of the restaurant. loss of a star was for our server changing a few times, and their policy of not splitting bills--it was weird and the first time I'd heard that. read more

Fun, classy little bar with a cool atmosphere and something to eat for everyone! We stopped in on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for a meal. They have a cute patio seating area that was totally full with lots of young people enjoying the day. Inside, the bar area is on the ground floor and then additional seating can be found upstairs. We sat ourselves upstairs, and received very timely service from our waitress. We found the place to be a bit too loud and "cool" for our taste, but perfect thing if you're looking for a sports bar/hip place to meet up for drinks with friends. The drink menu seemed to be lengthy with many options, though we didn't partake. I would say that the quality of the food was fine, par for the course for this type of establishment. For an app we ordered the Buffalo rolls and found them to be pretty tasty. I ordered the stack burger and found it pretty messy with the amount of cheese and special sauce, but the heap of well seasoned crinkle cut fries was a plus. My boyfriend ordered the chicken pesto sandwich and was happy with the flavor combination. Overall decent, but not much to write home about; if we returned, probably would do so in order to meet up with friends for drinks as opposed to any special desire to sample the food again. Still though, nice establishment and would recommend for that purpose! read more

Let me start off by saying I have loved Forty Thieves for years, their food is great even if it takes 40 minutes to come out. However this visit on 4/18 was unpleasant enough to sour my entire view of the restaurant. Our server, a young tall guy, began by asking "do you know what you want," 50 minutes after ordering we got our food which was great, however at the end when we asked for our check we asked to put half on one card and half on another to which he said was impossible, we asked why to which he began swearing and yelling and snatched the cards out of my hand. He was unpleasant and straight up rude the entire time. On top of it the bathrooms are always gross and the doors don't lock! I have never been treated that badly by a server in my entire life. It made our entire table really uncomfortable and I don't think I will be returning to Forty for a very long time. I will miss those wings. read more
