Haywire Is farm to table texas greatness! My husband has been here many times and we finally had a date night together a few weeks back. We ate upstairs where there were bookcases against the wall and wood tables, all very homey feeling. One reason I was excited to try this place is that every food item fried here is fried in beef tallow! That is so much healthier than any seed oil! Our appetizer were the onion rings and they were crunch, huge, and delicious! For entrees my husband had the double cheeseburger and I had the meatloaf with fries. I had a bite of my husband's hamburger and wow it was one of the best burgers I have ever had! It was juicy and flavorful! My meatloaf was good but not amazing. Thr portion sizes was also a bit disappointing because it was two small slices. I would pass on it and recommend a burger. I would love to come back again soon to try their lunch options or their steaks. The steaks are affordably priced in my opinion for the area. My husband had a couple house margaritas and said they were delicious. Overall this is a solid southern/American restaurant and its a great staple of legacy west. read more

It was our last night in Texas and friends had recommended this place. It's a huge restaurant with 3 floors. First floor is mainly their bar. The second floor is the main dining/restaurant. It's a very big restaurant and it was quite busy for a Sunday night. The third floor is their rooftop bar with a cigar shop. Very cute setup with teepees. All the employees were very friendly and helpful. We started with their Chef's favorite 4 appetizer platter and it did not disappoint. It was a great way to sample the best items on the menu. I wasn't keen on trying the elk tacos but they turned out to be pretty good and it tasted like ground beef. Fried green tomatoes is my jam. I was so excited when I saw it on the menu. Queso blanco was delish as was the onion rings. We all ordered an enteee and everyone enjoyed it. I had the double pork chop that was slow cooked with their house rib. As thick as it was the pork chop was still super juicy. The petite filets were very tender and juicy. Another friend had the catfish and shrimp and said it tasted ok but she wouldn't order it again. Not exactly the farm-to-table experience I had in mind. I called, thinking this would be an easy fix--"Hey, can I swap this out for one without the... extra garnish?" Instead, I was told there was nothing they could do since it was a delivery order... but I should post about my experience. So here we are. Taking their advice. Would love to hear if others have had similar experiences--or if this was just my lucky day. Had a late lunch with some Business/ Friends at Haywire. I was not that hungry but wanted to try a few items. Everything they create in the kitchen is a work of art! I started with a spicy chicken tortilla soup. Very nice and a cup was enough. Then followed by a charcuterie board with venisen sausage and other meats and chesse, Very nice app presentation. Mariah our server was amazing and made some great suggeations. I followed with thier babacoa grilled cheese. Boy was that a large sandwich! I could only eat half. Then our server Mariah convinced us we had to try the Pecan Pie, And it was Amazing! Highly recommend 3 floors of places to eat and hang out with a rooftop. Haywire is such a cool hang out spot, lots of vibrant energy, and the rooftop is definitely the move! I met my sister for dinner and even though it was a summer night, there was a nice breeze so it was still comfortable. She was visiting from out of town and staying at a hotel so we didn't want to have to take home leftovers so we decided to share everything this visit and I'm really glad we did because the portions are generous and we still couldn't finish dessert! We started with the spinach, crab dip and it had ample pieces of succulent crab and a buttery, crumb topping that we both really enjoyed. For the main, we split the a burger, I don't recall if it was called the western burger or the cowboy burger but either way it was delicious with crispy fried onions, a smokey barbecue sauce and cheese. Finally for dessert, we shared The Homestead cake and it was absolutely incredible, it was one of the most delicious cakes I've ever had. The waitress described it as a cross between a spice cake and a carrot cake, layered with a cream cheese frosting and it had some sort of caramel sauce on top the tasted a lot like toffee, it may have been a brown butter caramel sauce but it was a stunning presentation and I highly recommend it. The service was good but not great and only because it seemed like they were a little understaffed for how busy they were that night. Our waitress was a little slow coming to our table for drink refills and taking our order but again, she was very attentive while she was with us and I could tell that she was tired and felt bad for her. We still tipped her really well because overall she was still really sweet, just spread a little thin. read more

I dined here while visiting Dallas and ended up going two nights in a row! The first night I had the Wagyu chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, green beans, and the sausage gravy on the side. Our server recommended that I dip my fries in the gravy, and that was an absolute banger! It was so delicious. The meat was perfectly seasoned, and the crust was a very light. The only thing is that my steak had a few pieces of gristle, which kind of threw me off being that it was Wagyu. The sausage gravy and fries were absolutely delicious. I had to keep the sausage gravy separate because my husband can't eat pork, but if it were up to me, I would've slathered that on everything on the plate! The house salad is absolutely delicious. I could eat that every day, I love how it has dollop of creamy goat cheese, pecans, the dressing, everything was just absolutely superb. My old-fashioned was excellent, after dinner my husband and I ended up going upstairs to the bar area and I ordered another one Texas size, and it was about to knock me out, I had to share it with him because it was so strong, but absolutely worth it for the price! (Extra $3) The second night I went back with my sister and we got the crab dipped, which was almost perfect, but it had about a tablespoon too much salt, which made it a little bit difficult to finish. We went with the house salad again because I just can't get enough of it, and we shared the western barbecue burger, which wasn't as impressive as I had hoped. I wish we would have gone with the classic cheeseburger instead. We also ordered the Homestead cake which was described to us by the server as a mixture of carrot cake and spice cake but me being from San Antonio I would actually say it was a combination of those two AND tres leches! That cake was so good. I want to eat it all the time. It was fabulous and I'm even more excited to find out that there is a haywire right here in San Antonio. The view, the ambience, the service, everything was excellent, but the one thing that is difficult for me to ever give a five star is when I keep running out of water! It got to one point where my sister and I had to go grab the water pitcher and fill up our own glasses. The first night I went there was a bottle of water that was kept on our table and we were able to refill at our leisure. The second night we were not provided with that and kept running out. Back in town for a Work thing and found ourselves back here for dinner. Location is super large with bar area in the downstairs portion with more dining for dinner and the upstairs portion. They also have a rooftop lounge area where you can smoke cigars and enjoy some cocktails. While they don't have parking directly in front of their location. there are plenty of parking garages that are located within a short walking distance. Our server was incredibly friendly and she ensured that we were taken care of. I ordered the steak salad. My steak was cooked perfectly as I always request medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. Salad is great - love the dressing that they put on it as well. I do wish they would put more of the cheese like croutons on it because they are delicious. Really enjoy this location. I'm out here visiting my best friend and his family, and they decided to take me here. The layout of the restaurant is phenomenal. It's three stories, there is a VARIETY of types of tables, you can see the expo line as well as the wine room on second floor. Tony was our server, and he was spectacular. He answered every question we had regarding food and cocktails, and upsold us the larger old fashioned. He also gave my out of town self some places on where to dance. One of the most fun aspects of relocating is nearly every single restaurant being completely new to you. As a foodie, this is a dream. My sister and law and I came to Haywire for HH last Friday. She snagged us seats on the rooftop. I love how the various different floors and spaces all provide a different experience. We both had bourbon smashes, delish and refreshing for a very warm afternoon. We shared the queso and gulf ceviche. Both dishes were perfect pairings with our drinks. I love the chips! We could have easily gone for round 2 but I had an early flight and wanted to tread lightly ;) to keep well hydrated for the weekend. I'll definitely be back to enjoy HH and the full restaurant service. I've always loved a nice cigar and was happy to spot their cabinet on my way out. Most definitely enjoying one on my next visit. We came by Haywire around 5 pm on a Friday and easily found seats at the bar. The bartender's station wasn't fully set up and he had to run back to the service station to get ingredients for our cocktails. He seemed a little unprepared and more interested in changing the channels on the TVs than attending to guests at the bar. In his defense, there were only about 5 of us at the bar at the time, but it did take some effort to get his attention. Happy Hour runs from 2 pm to 6 pm Monday-Friday and includes items like sliders and elk tacos. I opted for a Cesar salad with chicken. The dressing on the salad was not evenly tossed so some lettuce had very little dressing and some was drenched. It wasn't a big deal. I just ended up mixing it up more. But I didn't realize it at first since it was a little dark in the bar and that first bite of mostly dressing was a bit of a surprise. However, it tasted good. The second floor was where everyone was seated during our visit. It gets pretty loud. There is an elevator to get upstairs if mobility is an issue. The outside balcony has seating for large groups, families, and those hoping to listen to the music on the adjacent stage. Valet parking is also conveniently available right outside the building. read more

The food came out very fresh/hot and the wait was not too long. They also have a reasonable selection of cocktails. Our waiter Reed was very nice and attentive. The bulk of their tables are on the second floor which was much bigger than I was expecting, and I liked that all the tables aren't squished up against one another. I always sit at the bar because I love watching the kitchen cook, and the whole experience was great from start to finish. The team was very clean and Chef Skylar really made our visit enjoyable. One of our friends couldn't eat beef and pork that were cooked in the same grease as the chicken, so the staff prepared a meat specifically for him. I was really happy they overheard our conversation and went above and beyond to accommodate him--that attention to detail meant a lot. It will started with a lovely experience at the downstairs bar, and the experience continued upstairs where we dined and continued to drink fine cocktails. The ambiance is so cool. The restaurant is incredibly large with multiple dining spaces, and the decor feels very rustic. Think ranch, old library vibes. The outdoor space overlooks a grassy area with a stage, so while there was no entertainment while we were there, I could imagine having mimosas on a Sunday morning while jamming to some good ol' country music. The food is phenomenal. My favorite was the crab dip but to be fair...we had been eating steaks and ribs all week, so while I am sure the ribs and steaks here were great, I really needed something different. That's not to say that I didn't order ribs because I did, but the crab dip was just more memorable to me. Lol. I do also remember that the Mac n cheese was my favorite of the week. Portions are huge so my recommendation is to get a few things for the table and pass it all around so everyone can try a little bit of something. Our waiter was just the right amount of attentive. Those whiskey BBQ ribs are lethal in how delicious they are. I couldn't believe it, I love being in the DFW for places like this. Just a nice Texas Southwestern themed restaurant with a bar as well when you just want to have a good time. Great spot to take a date, or group of friends. I finally made it to Haywire in Plano and wow... what an incredible night. The second you step inside, the stunning ambiance and effortless Texas-chic vibe hit you. Haywire has been consistent with their drinks and dishes. I've been here quite a few times for business meetings but our family decided to try it out for weekend Brunch. We loved the outdoor seating and the weather was really nice. Service was great! Our server gave great recommendations and all of our dishes did not disappoint. I was particularly pleased with the taste of the waffle, it had a lot of flavor, perfectly sweet but not too much and the texture was great, a bit of crunch but soft on the inside.
