My book club girlies and I like to try new restaurants while we discuss the new read. I would describe the restaurant as an elevated restaurant that provides comfort food. The aesthetics were country chic and the service was quick. I appreciated that the staff was attentive to our party of 7. The cornbread was hot and fluffy, and the drinks were refreshing. I enjoyed the chicken fried steak. Portion sizes were plentiful. If I had one complaint I would say I wish my food came out a little hotter. I like my food fresh off the fire. read more

Very disappointing meal. Our family had dinner here yesterday. It's very close to our house and a beautiful setting (the setting/decor is 5/5). If it was just the food itself, I would probably have given it a 2/5. We had: Branding Iron Onion Rings (3.5/5) - Probably the best thing we ate, and that's not saying much. The presentation is great, very big onion rings stacked. The issues are, (1) the onions are not cooked through so still had too much of a raw onion taste/bite; (2) the batter was not consistent. Tortilla Soup (3/5) - Okay flavor but did not taste like tortilla soup. Tasted very "tomato-ey." Haywire BBQ Ribs (2/5) - Very weird tasting. Combination of BBQ sauce, chipotle, and a soy glaze that when combined, did not work at all. The meat was very dry as well. Chicken Fried Steak (2/5) - Probably my least favorite chicken fried steak I've ever had. Weird flavored, came out lukewarm. NOTE: Some of the foods came our super fast which made us think it was pre-made and just warmed up? My wife had the Prime Rib. Came out with grill marks on it. She said it tasted more like a grilled steak than a prime rib, and a bland steak at that (and she didn't think the meat quality was great). The sides we had (green beans, mashed potato, french fries) were all okay. Server let us know that they had no mac and cheese available. We went for an early dinner on Sunday. Is this something that a restaurant would run out of before dinner service??? A 3 is a very generous rating, only because the setting is so nice. Went to Haywire for lunch service; located in Memorial City across from the mall area. There's free parking in the adjacent parking garage. Haywire has a modern cowboy/western interior decor and it looks pretty fresh. There's outdoor seating and an adjacent building that looks to also belong to them. The lunch menu had a good amount of items on there from burgers to a more traditional entree option such as pork chop or steak. Ordered the venison chili and redfish for the entree. Service was honestly a bit slow and slightly disorganized; we waited quite a bit for apps, entrees, desserts, etc and it didn't feel very smooth. For the most part, the food was solid; I'm not sure how farm to table everything is (as stated on the menu) so it would help if the waitstaff could explain a bit more about the ingredients used and how to differentiate themselves; "where we get our beef" or "fish is line caught" etc. Feel like info like this on the menu or explained initially will definitely help put it to the next level. The chili was cooked and seasoned well despite the cornbread tasting a bit on the bland side. The tallow fries didn't taste much of tallow but they were crispy. The redfish itself was tender if not slightly undercooked; the meat was a bit fishy which was surprisingly given how seasoned it was. Usually fresh caught redfish filets are very mild. The lump crab meat and crawfish tails on top were solid and it's good to see actual lump pieces of crab. Had a bite of the bread pudding for dessert and it was very good, the pecan pie wasn't up my alley though. Overall it looks like the food fits the modern western vibe they're going for; I would recommend pushing the farm to table aspect of the ingredients being used in each dish and providing details to the customer (which they may or may not care about to be fair). Wasn't blown away by any of the dishes but the food served was solid for lunch service. read more

It's a beautiful building and interior. Texas Maximalism to the T and lots of character in design choices. Huge bar area, plus a lounge cocktail space, and comfy dining area overall. Our server was good, didn't catch her name or have much of a read on the service style in general. It was just friendly par for the course service that didn't really elevate the visit. There's a free parking garage around the side/back but mostly a valet service if you park up front. Admittedly, the restaurant concept speaks directly to my sensibilities for food diet. They are branded as a "Farm-to-Fork" enterprise, consciously sourced real ingredients is the message. I think they hit the target with items like Tallow Fries but not much else really rung that bell in terms of names menu items. However the food itself didn't rise to the level of expectation that is set when you walk in the building. Highlights for me were the kids grilled cheese and Brussel sprouts that came as a side. Grilled cheese used a sourdough and was extra crispy, and the sprouts had a nice spicy flavor that was really the only thing I ate that had craveability. My wife's salad and burger were replacement level, could've had those exact same choices anywhere to be honest, same goes for the bread pudding. Actively not good was the corn bread at $3, overly sweetened and entirely too dense and stiff, like I would be embarrassed to have plated that item. My ribeye was mostly gray, no grill marks from a live fire grill and no crust from a pan sear, so I'm not sure how this was prepared. Flavor was ok with the garlic butter that I paid additional for, but I was underwhelmed with this steak. Lastly came for a late lunch around 2:30 on a Friday, squarely during Happy Hour window, we ordered 2 drinks form the happy hour priced selection, on the receipt neither were at the discounted price. Small thing dollar wise, but just shows a lack of attention for the customer. Ultimately they could still be finding their feet, but it's been a couple months since opening and I feel like I don't need to make excuses. Price point is too high for an ok meal. The aesthetics are doing most of the work here, and for a themed dining experience I'm getting better value at Saltgrass Steakhouse. read more

Sunday brunch. What an absolute charming restaurant. I loved the western chic vibe. The western style paired with all those chandeliers is stunning. The waitstaff could easily be mistaken for-the guests. They wore jeans, nice shirt and cowboy hat. Very cute. Very Texan. They looked like everybody else in the restaurant. No complaints- i think it looks great. We went for brunch and started off in the bar. The service was good and drinks were excellent but i think the bar is a bit small. Not sure about coming here for just drinks. But. We sat at a table and the food was amazing. Since we had a large party we shared several apps. Started off with the fried green tomatoes and the pork belly and the blueberry biscuits. All were outstanding. The biscuits were served with a lemon icing drizzle that was just delicious. No need for butter or jam. The tomatoes were light and crisp. I shared the chicken and waffles. Chicken was very moist and well seasoned. The waffles were served with a bourbon maple syrup. Yum. My only complaint is i wish they would have put it on the side and not directly on waffles. Even though i ate all of it. My husband had the redfish. Well cooked, not over done and very flavorful. . The others had the barbacoa chilaquiles. They were piled high with barbacoa and i am told were delicious and held their crispiness. We were looking a for a whiskey cake and found this place and ordered their whiskey bread pudding instead, we ordered it to go and we were pleasantly surprised of how delicious it tasted! I had dinner on a Wednesday evening, and was surprised to see that the large restaurant was packed. The decor is very cowboy/Texan and the waitstaff also dresses in Texan attire. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I had the spicy tortilla soup which was very well seasoned and hearty, however it was served lukewarm which was very strange. The house salad has goat cheese and smells very vinegary, but it was very light and pleasant. My main dish was the garlic stuffed filet which was cooked as medium rare, but for some reason the meat was tougher than I would have expected for filet. The roasted garlic cloves were an interesting addition, but did not impart a strong garlic flavor on the steak. The whipped potatoes were buttery, and the sautéed green beans were fresh and cooked and seasoned nicely. My diagnosis: Homey Texan decor but food was okay for the price. read more

My first visit here I had the dinner and had the roasted garlic stuffed filet which was amazing and perfectly seasoned! Dinner is a bit on the pricier side depending on what you get. After getting hooked on their dinner I knew I wanted to try their brunch. I ended up getting the Cinnamon orange pancakes & Ranch hand breakfast which is a lot of food! I would definitely share the pancakes. The pricing for breakfast was also average, not too pricey and a good amount of food. I can't speak to the drinks, but several people seemed to be taking advantage of the lounge and libations for lunch meetings. Very Dutton. Our lunch, unfortunately, was tragic. The queso, while having a great flavor, wasn't melted all the way through and we were left with cheese blocks about halfway down. I went with the hot chicken sandwhich as a meal, which was "okay" (a death-review word in my experience). The only memorable part of the sandwich was the size: too big to comfortably get your mouth on. Stopped for a late lunch on the way to airport after a girls weekend! We had the crispy pork belly bites, cooked perfectly with a great sauce. I had the western burger because Brandon said it's his favorite and we love Brandon! Also, even though we had a reservation, we still needed to wait for a table. The male bathrooms were dirty and women's bathrooms lacked toilet paper. I expected more. Let me start with the positive. The ambiance is great. Nice decor and pretty good layout. I will say on the second floor some of the spacing was off. We were at a table against the wall and felt like we had to go through a maze to go to the restroom. The ambience is nice and there is a really upscale looking entry and bar. There is also an elevator so I believe a top floor but I sat on the bottom. The food was alright. We got the chicken fried steak and the country fried steak and both of them were so thin it mainly tastes like the batter. Not what I was expecting. I will not go here and order this again. The green beans were a little too Al dente for me and the mashed potatoes were good a little on the salty side but they were decent. Price was about $20 a dish. We ordered the chips and queso also as a starter. The chips were nice and fresh and the cheese was good too. Solid starter. The service was good, very nice and explained the dishes in detail. Parking: valet up front or free parking garage behind restaurant within the complex. As they are still building a part of the restaurant (I believe another private room section), we had to walk all the way around the construction to the front doors. Upon going in, decor definitely stands out and everyone working were dressed in Texan/rodeo attire -nice details! Went up to the second floor by elevator to our table and that floor was filled with glass chandeliers and leather chairs. They do have nice private rooms for different number of guests as well - all really nice areas and bar areas. We had some hiccups with our group as a highchair was lower than the top tables, and when switched to a booster, it didn't fit safely on the leather chairs. They did eventually switch us to a better arrangement, so appreciate the service. We tried a variety of different foods during lunch time. The hibiscus haze mocktail surprisingly was a standout drink. Our angus filet steak came out rare when asked for medium, but they took it back to recook and was a lot better after the fix. Everything was good, but the real standout was the steak - so I'll have to go back and try their dinner portions and options next time. I can see this place being packed! read more

Service is ALWAYS great here. I order the same thing every time I go for lunch steak salad -medium rare with a drink. Well, it's usually hit or miss on getting the medium rare part correct. I also learned that they are technically not even considered to be known for their steaks - they are more known for their scratch made plates. I have been looking forward to trying Haywire! Our group of 13 arrived for a work lunch and the reservation process went smoothly (definitely recommend a reservation). We had 2 waitresses assigned to us and they were very friendly from the very beginning and all throughout our lunch. I decided to order some onion rings as an appetizer after seeing the reviews and photos - they looked amazing. Unfortunately after waiting awhile for our appetizers and other parties in my group getting theirs, mine was not delivered; after waiting a good while, I opted to cancel the order since our main meal would be arriving soon. Not going to lie, I'm still a little bummed about not getting to try them. For an entrée, I ordered the cheeseburger and fries. It was good and I would get it again, although it was big! The meat and cheese blended together so well (like a cheeseburger should), but then you have good portions of lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles too - it was a combination of greasy cheeseburger and fresh veggies. Overall great experience, especially considering our large party. I think they are still working out a few things for being a new restaurant, but those things will only continue to get better. I came to this restaurant for a team holiday gathering. A couple of my team members chose this place as it was convenient for us to meet at and because of the food apparently was great. We did have a reservation as we had a decent size group, but that is where I just felt like everything started to go wrong as we walked in. Yes, it's the holidays and it was a little chaotic. Another party told us they had a reservation that felt like that was not helpful and did nothing to improve the time they were seated. We waited for about seven minutes before being acknowledged by the host or us forcing the host to acknowledge us. After about another 5 minutes we asked the host when we would be seated as we had a reservation. They told us that they were waiting for the host from upstairs and we would be seated. We waited another five minutes and asked when the host was coming to seat us. The host then said that we just needed to go upstairs to meet the host, that's when we told him he should've been more clear initially on his instructions. The place was beautiful. Don't get me wrong. Everything on the menu sounded delicious a little high priced on some items not unusual, but I do expect the food to taste great. A couple of coworkers got fish. Didn't hear them rave about it, but ate it. The rest of us were taking the recommendation of the chicken, fried chicken/chicken fried steak. Apparently it was supposed to be the best. I got my chicken fried chicken and felt like the middle of the chicken was not fully cooked just by the looks of it so I did not eat it. See the picture provided. I ended up getting indigestion from my meal anyways, but there was nothing great about it unfortunately. The mashed potatoes were good and the brussels sprouts were OK. They had a good flavor, but we're a little too spicy and I didn't know they were going to be spicy. Came here for a business meeting. Inner decor is very nice. Definitely provides that modern rustic feel with warm, elegant ambiance with soft lighting. The servers and hosts were incredibly pleasant and helpful. Happy hr is from 2-6pm M-F. Includes select wine, bourbon smash and frozen drinks, along with small bites like sliders, mini elk tacos and chips queso for $7 each. We got the queso and elk tacos. The tacos were amazing and comes 3 to each order. Well seasoned and just the right amount. The queso was super thick and heavy imo but the chips were great and not too brittle. We got bourbon smash, old fashions, espresso and dirty martinis. The bourbon drinks were well made and not too strong. For main entrees we ordered the bbq ribs, meat loaf, and chicken fried steak. The portions are very generous! Nearly enough to make 2 meals. Meatloaf is moist and well seasoned and the chicken fried steak had the perfect fried texture and ample thickness to the steak without the fried batter falling off with every cut. The sides like green beans and mashed potatoes are generously loaded with cheese and bacon bits as well. Overall an amazing experience for dinner. FYI The restaurant got busy around 7-8pm. read more

Very nice & cool concept. I went for a birthday dinner and this place was definitely made for large groups/parties and yet can still be intimate for a date night. I love how everyone was dressed in their Western/cowboy apparel. There were 2 levels and an elevator, as well as a patio area. They also offer a Happy Hour but I missed it. The aesthetics are really nice. I definitely enjoyed my food, drinks, time with the girls. We kept passing around samples of each other's food and it was all good. We've been coming to Haywire every week for the past 8 weeks, and it's been flawless every single time. This place is the full package--exceptional cocktails, incredible food, and top-notch service. Start with the drinks--their signature Haywire cocktail is one of the best in town. Perfectly balanced, flavorful, and dangerously easy to love. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. The elk tacos are a must-order--bold, unique, and packed with flavor. The fried green tomatoes are crispy, fresh, and the perfect way to start any meal. Honestly, everything we've tried has been excellent: * Burgers - juicy and flavorful * Steaks - cooked to perfection * Pork chop - tender and rich * Fish - fresh and beautifully prepared You truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is just as impressive--attentive, thoughtful, and always going the extra mile to make you feel taken care of. And don't skip dessert. It's to die for. I had the Chilaquiles and I'm looking for and excuse to go back. Not to mention their bacon has to be fresh cut from the butcher. The chicken had a really good flavor, but the waffle was just ok. My drink of choice were the margaritas and I only needed two. Our waitress was amazing! She was able to give us feedback on all of the menu items. The ambience is probably one of the best parts. Pork belly good, redfish good. Wedge salad is a huge piece of lettuce with very little else. Barbacoa stroganoff-- stay away from it. Don't even try it. Drinks were good. For the prices on the menu there are definitely some items that should be either removed outright or rethought. Would go back but would be more careful on what we ordered. read more

Haywire at Memorial City in Houston seriously impressed me. The atmosphere is warm and stylish with a cool Texas vibe that feels perfect for anything from date night to dinner with friends. The food was the real star though! They served perfectly cooked steaks, amazing sides, and desserts that are 100% worth saving room for. Service was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely adding Haywire to my go-to spots and will recommend to anyone visiting the area. Went for Easter Brunch at the Memorial location and was very, very disappointed. The price for the brunch is $60 per person which seems fine for the assortment of food offered however they were running low on items such as the prime rib. We had to wait for a while for it to be ready and then once it was, it was very very undercooked. I know prime rib is not thouroughly cooked but this was extremely rare. Bleeding all over the plate rare. On top of that, the buffet is until 3 pm, however around 2:30 they stop bringing out more food. So what ever is there, that is it which seems very wrong since we are paying for the buffet. I would expect that they continue to serve until 3 and then stop bringing out fresh food at 3pm. For these reasons, I do not recommend going to the brunch/buffet. The ambiance is nice and the drinks were good but the food and service was not. read more

This may be one of my favorite restaurants! The Chef's favorite 4 is so good and filling -- it's always my go-to when I bring my family. The drinks are good and servers are always friendly and even give you ideas on how to combine different dishes for the best dinning experience. They also have beautiful event spaces that are perfect for private parties. It's also family friendly. There's an upstairs dinning area with a nice view at night and it makes for the perfect date night. read more
