A vendor took me and my department to Lynn's Steakhouse for lunch last Wednesday, and overall we had a very good experience. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and very helpful in explaining the menu and answering questions. I was actually surprised by how quiet the restaurant was during our visit. Based on what I had expected, I thought it would be much busier, but there appeared to be only one other group dining at the time. The food was delicious, served hot, and matched what I was expecting from the menu. Several of us ordered the lobster bisque, which was definitely a hit with the table. We also seemed to gravitate toward the filet. Mine was cooked exactly to the temperature I requested and turned out perfectly. The sides are served family-style, and our group ordered the glazed carrots and mashed potatoes. Both worked really well with the steaks and gave everyone plenty to share. We finished with the trio dessert plate featuring cheesecake, chocolate cake, and bread pudding. Everyone sampled a few bites of each, and there was still enough left to bring some back to the office, so the portion was more than adequate for sharing. All in all, it was a very enjoyable lunch. I can't believe that all these years I'd been visiting family in Houston that I was never brought here before. Well, better late than never. Tired of all the overcrowded, modern, trendy, and loud places that serve overpriced mediocre quality food with service to match, this place was such a refreshing change. This place looks and feels like an classic landmark restaurant, has a nice calming ambiance with soft classics playing overhead... where you can still enjoy conversations with your group instead of having to shout to be heard.... then be served with beautifully presented dishes, prepared perfectly with the freshest ingredients, all tasting amazingly delicious, and on top of that, be spoiled by our server's excellent, friendly, and attentive service. In our group of 6, most ordered the steaks, Sea Bass, etc, but I'm more of a seafood lover so I went ahead and ordered a house salad, the Scallop Trio as my appetizer, and the Black Snapper as my main.... wow... everything was super fresh, wonderfully prepared, and tasted amazingly delicious..... not salty at all, great flavors, and served hot out of the kitchen. Everyone else also enjoyed their dishes very much. Everyone totally enjoyed this dinner experience.... everything from atmosphere to food quality to service was just perfect.... and we all agreed that we'd definitely be back again during our next visit. read more

I went here Thursday night for my 3rd time ever ordering the exact same meat cut, oz size and dessert as before. My 18 oz NY Strip - rare and Chocolate Cake for dessert were both so delicious, moist and satisfying. The steak was high quality, seasoned so well, rich, hearty and very beefy at the same time without being overly fatty or too lean at all either. I am not completely sure if it was just salt n pepper for the seasoning, but damn it was perfect in every bite. That touch of compound butter on top adds even more depth to the meat game. The inside of this cut was nicely cool n dark red contrasting a wonderfully seared, warm crust on the top layer. The dollop of mashed potatoes for presentation on my steak plate was a very good, edible addition that will definitely make me consider spending extra on a side dish next time here, bc it was well-seasoned, buttery, potatoey and had just the right amount of garlic. I was debating between the bread pudding and chocolate cake since I love both, but never had the bread pudding here, but heard another customer last time praising it. I still went with the chocolate cake again, bc dark chocolate is my # 1 with bread pudding # 2 or 3 for favorite desserts in general. I especially loved the dark ganache frosting on top best on this slice. The cake itself was soft, juicy and well-made. The service was immaculate, so friendly, so welcoming and hospitable from my server and another gentleman that came by briefly when my entree arrived. I have been to numerous chain and private steakhouses in the city and for private ones Lynn's and Pappas Bros ( 3 total locations ) are the best ones of all imo. This place really should have more national attention. This steakhouse is severely underrated and clearly doesn't need to advertise bc locals in this area of Houston know its greatness. It also isn't a stuffy place for the food quality given. It reminds me of one of those good prime steakhouses in N Y C that has been around ages, but with obviously better hospitality here. I might try their lobster bisque next time if I feel n have extra money, bc that's a delicious soup when made right and like mashed potatoes, most nice restaurants don't execute these two well for some reason usually lacking enough cream n seasoning. Mushrooms and creamed spinach are definite others on my list if I want a side dish. I finished my 18 oz strip and cake slice there, so l left pretty full. read more

I came here for lunch a few weeks ago for my first visit and to sample their Houston Restaurant Weeks 3 course menu for $25. My group was warmly welcomed and seated in the restaurant which was about one third full. From the 2025 HRW menu, I ordered the house salad to start with, the duo of beef medallions for the entree and then strawberry romanoff ice cream for dessert. First to arrive were a couple of bread baskets with butter for the table. The bread was warm, soft and delicious. Then my salad appeared with tomatoes, cucumbers and mushrooms on the bed of greens with a herb dressing mixed in. It was served on a cold plate with some cracked pepper added at the table and was a quality tasting salad. Shortly after that the entrees arrived. My plate had 2 large beef medallions topped with a Bernaise and Peppercorn sauce on top. Also on the plate were broccoli and roasted potatoes. The beef was tender and the sauce added excellent flavor. It was a very good 3rd course. Finally the strawberry ice cream concoction was served in a tall glass with strawberrys and whipped cream on top. The strawberry romanoff ice cream was delicious and a nice finish to a nice meal. Also our table service was excellent and professional, I am glad I visited Lynn's and thank them for participating in HRW. We all agreed that it was an excellent experience. The steak was tender, seasoned well, and I actually finished the whole thing, which doesn't happen often. Our server was attentive without checking on us every two minutes. Celebrated Ethan's birthday at this quaint restaurant yesterday. Nice ambiance. Overall, service was excellent. Loved the bread. The lobster bisque was good. We all liked our tender steaks: filet Oscar, ribeye and filet mignon. The steak fries were ok. The birthday chocolate cake was delicious. Visited Lynn's for the first time and was extremely pleased. My wife and I along with our daughter and husband, had a wonderful evening. We all opted for the Houston Restaurant Week menu offer, with my wife getting the blackened salmon and the rest of us getting the 8 oz filet mignon. All steaks we're cooked to perfection and the salmon was delicious according to my wife. Not to mention the appetizers and the desserts were scrumptious. Everything tasted so homemade. A coworker and I came on a Wednesday during lunch. We came right when they opened so we were the first customers of the day. Upon entering the restaurant, you go up about 3 steps to the dining room. The wall is half carpet and the decor has an old, charming style. The service was extremely attentive. We came for HRW 2024. While looking at the main menu, I was disappointed to find that they offer a "Deluxe Lunch Special" which is almost verbatim the HRW menu. Oh well, at least for the HRW menu they donate $3 to a good cause. I ended up doing HRW and got a house salad, beef duo medallions and the carrot cake. The house salad was standard, with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and a few mushrooms, topped with a super creamy and heavy dressing. My beef entree had two sauces - a peppercorn and a bearnaise. The peppercorn had whole peppercorns, which was a little bit off putting for me even though I do enjoy peppercorn. The bearnaise was creamy and heavy. I preferred the bearnaise. The actual steak was cooked to medium and it was really delicious. The dish came with 3 small pieces of broccoli and three small pieces of potato - both needed a lot more seasoning. The carrot cake was moist in the center but dry towards the outer edge. It was super sweet for me. Overall, the steak itself was good but i wasn't impressed by the rest. Lynn's Steakhouse is has a green awning which can't be missed. The restaurant is situated in a small parking lot. Inside has limited seating so reservation is recommended. The restaurant has a dated decor but it is neat. Lynn's Steakhouse has a pretty good HRW menu which I went for. The house salad's dressing was creamy and good. The vegetables were fresh. For my entree, I had the duo beef medallions which the chef nailed the temperature of the beef. The sauces were delicious. The portion was good. The carrot cake was the perfect dessert to end the meal. It wasn't dense and wasn't too sweet. I love Lynn's Steakhouse food and would go back to try their regular menu. read more

When people talk about restaurants very often Lynn's is left off the list and for what reason I cannot comprehend. It has been here for at least 40 years that I can recollect and it's likely that it's been here longer. The reason I have not written about it is because frankly I've been here only two or three times in my entire dining experience in Houston, but every aspect from the food to the service is superlative in so far as the ambience is concerned it is also rather lovely. I grant you it is antiquated however, it is quite nice. The appetizers we had were scallops. They were perfectly cooked. I had a prime rib, which was again perfectly cooked and a very adequate portion and the sides of mushrooms and asparagus were wonderful. The wine we had with dinner was a stags Leap Artemis which was quite good, but frankly there are better wines on the menu. We just didn't partake of them, but I would by all means encourage people to take a look at the wine menu. And then we had a.Bolce dessert wine, which was simply incredible and I must say for as much as I drink ice wines after dinner this was just incredible dessert wine directly from France a wonderful experience this is not a restaurant to be missed read more

This place has been around forever and has graduated now to institution status on the west side. Stiff drinks, thick steaks, good seafood... Excellent side dishes that are big enough for two lumberjacks or three regular people. Think Houston in the 1980s when oil was booming and money and expense accounts we're abundant. I haven't been in years but I definitely am going to make it more frequent from now on. (I forget how much fun we used to have in the early '80s.) In addition to their dinner menu, they also serve a budget-friendly lunch menu that provides plenty of options for everyone. This was our first time here; we decided to go because of the great reviews, and all were correct. Our greeting as we walked in was warm and inviting. On the reservation, I noted that it was my wife's bday- and they wished her a happy birthday along w a card waiting for her at the table. The food was outstanding. I got the rack of lamb. I asked for medium and some of them were medium rare so I asked for it to be cooked more which they did pretty quickly. Granted, there was only one other table of customers there at that time. But still, we got no attitude or rudeness. The lamb did have a lot of seasoning on it but it tasted good to me. The carrots that came with it looked like they were old and they didn't bother to peel them to freshen them up. Kind of like raw burnt human skin. And they tasted like feet. So that really annoyed me. But I got the cheesecake which was really good. And I'm assuming they made it, lol. So they saved themselves with that. I am gluten free and they do not have gluten free bread. The crab cake was good but only had a bite due to gluten. read more

The outside is very unassuming to the point of being a little dated. However, the inside is quite elegant, the ambience is dark, sophisticated, and characterized by subdued lighting. For appetizers my wife and I ordered crab cakes. My crab cake appetizer was good. But, my wife's crab cake was cold. For the main course I ordered the Chilean sea bass with shrimp, and lyonnaise potatoes. And my wife ordered the Chateaubriand center cut. Her dish was cooked a perfect medium rare, and the flavor was very good (although she didn't like the peppercorn sauce). The dessert was a dark chocolate cake which looked and tasted delicious. The cake wasn't too dry or moist and it was just the right amount of sweet. I also had a cappuccino. The cappuccino was good, but I would prefer it to be a little more dry next time. Lynn's has been serving up great steaks since 1985. That's pretty incredible considering the very competitive restaurant market in Houston. Located off of Dairy Ashford in the same building since day 1. The interior has not changed since my last visit in the 90s. The service is still stellar, the place kept clean & the food excellent! Did you know they are a holder of Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence? Yep, they have a very nice selection. On our recent visit, H & I indulged ourselves with hearty steaks, his was the 8 oz filet & I opted for the triple peppercorn medallions. For the side we ordered the bacon lyonnaise potatoes. The medallions were big & cooked to perfection, topped with a peppercorn mushroom sauce. The potatoes were excellent & the bacon made the dish perfect. Service excellent & attentive. I can see why this place has made it 40 years. They have an Express Lunch that includes a starter, main & dessert for $26. Not a bad deal! read more

Was 1st asked if we had a reservation when I stated it was a party of 5 despite the restaurant being slow. 2 people in our party ordered steaks medium rare - delivered well done. Those were sent back and we were told that they would be comped. They weren't. The frozen Mediterranean Mahi Mahi steaks were tough to cut. No vegetables were served with any of the entries. I tried to call to talk to the manager 4 times and left a message for a call back which was never returned. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I've lived in Houston for 11 years and my first dinner at Lynn's was tonight. This is my kind of place. If you have not gone, go. This steakhouse is everything. Delicious. Timeless service. Classic ambience. We went on a Thursday and it was not crowded which I was quite surprised about. A full bar, a tremendous kitchen, and servers who honestly made you feel welcome. Where I do start? We both ordered soup (bisque and French onion), which were excellent. Filet was delectable. My wife had the red snapper and loved it. Brussels sprouts and au gratin potatoes were the perfect sides and large. Would have had desert but ordered an espresso instead ... the martini I had before dinner was way too perfect so I needed the espresso to close the loop! If Yelp allowed 6 stars once in a while I'd give it here. If you live steakhouses and have not been here you must go. Period. We will be back! read more

What a hidden gem! I have seen some yelpers post about this place before but I had no idea that it was going to be this good. We came here for HRW and I ended up getting the lobster bisque, the 8 oz filet and the carrot cake. Think of the service as an old school proper steakhouse. The server was so knowledgeable and if he didn't have the answers to our questions then he would bring out the sommelier to assist. The manager came to check on us at the end of the meal. The lobster bisque is probably one of the best ones that I have had in Houston! The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare but the vegetables on the side is what shocked me the most. Wow, this place is FIRE, I always say i am not much of a steak guy, but i love Lamb. I was surprised they served lamb when i sat down and looked at the menu. My girl loves lamb too, since she comes from a Middle Eastern background of eating it. We stopped here and immediately knew what we wanted. We got the Rack Of Lamb plate. You can get vegetables with it or a side order of fries. Nice people working here. We had a awesome waitress serve us. Love the Lamb, it is delicious. Mine i think had some Rosemary on it. UPDATE: 8/5/23 Way over priced for that you get. Escargot is not very good. We asked to sit at the bar and the door guy hesitated saying they were full. When we looked past him the bar was not even half full. Place is very dark and quiet. The peppercorn medallions was very good! Place is ok... nothing special but so many places you can go for a dinner of 2 for $200 with a few drinks and splitting an entree. read more

The 90's seem to have gotten stuck at Lynn's Steakhouse. I can imagine this place as the flagship steakhouse after church on Sundays back in the day. However this kind of old-school nostalgia doesn't do it for me anymore. The place is very intimate and the waiters wear tuxes with a manager in a suit walking around table to table. A ribeye with 1-2 sides shared with friends ran me ~$90. Very expensive even for today's standards. Steak was well prepared and food was fine, but you can find the same kind of stuff elsewhere for cheaper. I understand Lynn's steakhouse gives off an "old money" fancy vibe, but walk outside and you'll be facing Dairy Ashford and looking around your shoulder to see if you're safe in the area. Lynn's Steakhouse has had its time in the limelight, unfortunately, its way past its prime. There was nothing special about this place besides its ability to last in that area for so long. read more
