Stopped by on a Friday night around 7:30. Place was packed but we managed to find an open spot for our group of 5 to sit. The server was fantastic. Friendly, attentive. On top of everything. On special was $2 frozen margs. What?!!!! $2??? You can't go wrong and they're pretty strong. We started with beer cheese. Not what I was expecting. It's cold and more of like a pimento cheese dip. It was tasty though. I got a haymaker open faced sandwich. It was delish and def need to share. It's huge. It had cheese, meat, egg, and French fries on top of a huge slice of Texas toast. Meh....2.5 stars. Took a client to lunch there yesterday because I wanted to impress him with the Poutine. Menu with prices on website does not work (see pictures) and I didn't want to ask for prices with my client there. Poutine was intended as appetizer, but came out after sandwiches. It's almost been a year now and I still find myself heading over to the east side to enjoy Haymaker. It's has become English Premiere League central these days with the Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham fans calling Haymaker home. To open up at 6.45am and provide a great breakfast menu is pretty awesome and goes beyond dedication. They really service the fans by making sure the games are on all the televisions and sound in the big room. I like the fact that they cover the pool tables and shuffle board to make room for folks to stand/sit and have a place to put their drinks on and eat. After the games, they clear the tables and we end up playing some epic dart matches and pool. They also seem to cater to many of the handball games and several college teams have a strong following for them. (That's American Football) They constantly have brewer's nights for many of the breweries they feature on the 40 taps they keep rotating. They also have a curiously large selection of whiskeys as well. I always find a inexpensive special to sip on. Despite the fact they have one of the largest parking lots on Manor Rd, they do suffer from being very popular and the lot tends to fill up quickly. However, you can find parking along Cherrywood, just make sure you park in the spaces which are allocated for parking and not residents. Just leg it to the bar and have a blast. read more

I might be on a high from the longhorn win this afternoon, but this was the perfect venue to watch the red rivalry from Austin. Lots of fans came out to support, and there were some good drink specials to keep us hydrated. Food: poutine was great. However, this was my first poutine so I can't compare to others, but the gravy and fries combo was delicious. Add in some ketchup to make it super Americanized. Mac and cheese was super liquidy and creamy- but in a good way. The bread crumbs aligning the top added a nice crunch to the flavor as well. Finally, the Cole slaw was vinegar based! Yumminess without the extra mayo fat. Drinks: beer cocktails were pretty on point. The mo'wille beergarita was very refreshing on this hot day. A fun place! We tried Haymaker during football Sunday and arrived at the perfect time to grab a table, because it does tend to get busy. We enjoyed their $3 sangria specials and ordered the Carolina and teriyaki wings. Both were good, but when the waitress asked if we wanted 4 or 8 wings, we assumed 8 was the full order and 4 was the half. It was my fault in the end for not asking, but when we received our bill, I was shocked that 8 wings was $14! So I'm guessing only 4 wings would be $7? Seems too high for me for wings when you could get them so many places in Austin for a better price. Definitely wouldn't have ordered them had I realized the price from the beginning. We came here for dinner last night as we do many nights since we live so close. I decided to try something new. I got a patty melt and it didn't come out as ordered. This obviously happens in restaurants and it wasn't a huge deal. However it was how the manager handled it that really was top notch. He went above and beyond to make sure my experience was a perfect one. He bought me a beer and was so nice. The server was great too. It's all about recovery and even my husband said that's how a manager should handle a situation when something happens. I was very impressed and of course we will be back! Thanks to haymaker for going above and beyond to ensure our visit was a fantastic one! My one suggestion is to have a wing sauce that is super spicy! I would eat there every day! I came here for their annual crawfish boil and was blown away. I wasn't even hungry...I really came to accompany my friend who never had crawfish but wanted to try it. He was a big fan after eating a few so I decided to grab a pound myself and a cold beer. I am glad I did because I was not disappointed. I went here for the first time last Friday with a friend after hearing the hype surrounding this place, most of which came from said friend since they are an Eastsider now. So first off, the parking here, like most places on the east side, is a mess! We ended up having to scout for street parking in the residential neighborhood behind and hoof it back. Usually, I don't mind, but it was a trek and it was hella hot & muggy. We had initially come for their "Adult Sno-Cone" happy hour, which is $3, but ended up not getting any because apparently it isn't actually part of the restaurant and is a cash only situation, which I thought sucked since I am an active member of the "plastic toting" 21st Century and rarely, if ever, have cash on me, especially for a trendy east-side establishment such as this. There is an ATM, but with the fees to get the $3 I would need for the Adult Sno-Cone, the happy hour price becomes a moot point. Now on to the food. My friend had been talking about the gruyere queso non-stop, so of course I had to try it. While it was delicious, it, to me, was nothing to get excited or mildly elated over. It is kind of like a high-end Velveeta, would be my best attempt at describing it? I had the grilled cheese, which was good and the sweet potato waffle fries (again, which were highly touted by my friend and again I did not find extraordinary in the least). The food was fine, but honestly, a bit on the pricey side for what you get, imho. But, that seems to be the trend of the up & coming East Side. However, something they do incredibly right is the Poutine! Seriously, this stuff is the real deal! I haven't had poutine this good since Montreal! I also had their beer-rita, since it was on special, which I was kind of disappointed in as well since it isn't the typical Marg w/a bottle stuck in it. It seems to be a marg on the rocks w/beer blended in it and a rim of chili salt. It was ok, but I personally prefer my beer-ritas frozen (swirled) w/a beer bottle. All that being said, our server was fantastic and did a great job answering all my questions about the menu items and offering the day's specials. I'm glad I checked it out, but with so many other eastside options to explore I don't see myself purposely coming back here. read more

What a great find in Austin! We passed this location as we were heading to our Airbnb. It was literally down the street from our place so we decided to come in for lunch. We must have stopped in right during the lunch rush because the parking lot was packed but we were able to find a nice spot in the back. The sign out front said that the World Cup was on so that's a big reason we came in. We had a party of 7 and we were lucky to find a table up front in front of the big screen. There was a local sitting there but he invited us to sit down. Our server greeted and we ordered a couple of pitchers of beer while we waited for the match to start. Come to find out, haymaker is the soccer bar for Austin. We all ordered our various meals but started with each type of poutine. Both were amazing in its own respect. Fries were perfect and the gravy packed with flavor. I got the little burger, some ordered the signature haymaker sandwich, and there was even an option for our vegetarian friend. We ended up coming back later that night for more beers and cornhole on the front patio. A great time was had by all. read more

Great bar! Plenty of TVs if you like a bar where you can watch sports! There's also indoor and outdoor seating and pool tables in the back room! They have a SERIOUS beer list - including 30+ beers on tap (and they dedicate some of the taps to Texas drafts), and some great food! For vegetarians, they have a vegan Italian sausage or bratwurst that can be substituted for any of the sausage dishes, grilled cheeses, a vegan black bean patty or Hot Dang grain burger that can replace any burger patty, and a lot more! I can personally recommend the Pretzel Bites (don't miss the homemade horseradish mustard) and the Pimiento Cristo (a deep-fried beer-battered pimiento cheese sandwich). They even have salads for those looking for a healthier option! Great place to watch sports events! CONS: their parking lot (and sometimes the bar itself) is full by 5:30 on Fridays! Management has hung it's staff out to dry yet again on a big soccer day. Went in for the Euro2020 Final on Sunday early enough to get a seat. We had no issue getting our food order and first beers as it was still not packed in there 1.5hrs priort to game time. But low and behold, as soon as we ordered our pitcher about 15-20min before game time we essentially stopped getting any drinks and had to go up to the bar ourselves to get them. This wasn't our waitresses fault as the bar staff was so backed up and the entire place was packed shoulder to shoulder with people probably doubling what the fire code actually allows in there. When I finally fought through the crowd and went up to the bar, during the second half, I had to bring with me my empty pitcher as they had apparently ran out of ones to use. (Ours was empty for about an hour on our table). I started out about four people deep when I got up to the bar and first thing I saw was a bartender pull about 35-40 tickets off the machine from orders that were rang in. (That also happened the next time I came up). That's how I know it wasn't the staffs problem. They were set up for failure by being overwhelmed with people. Haymaker NEVER has someone making sure they don't go over capacity, so it's just a free for all of people. I honestly have been just a handful of times in the past seven years since the Fire Marshall shut the place down during the USA/Portugal World Cup game in 2014. And they kicked me and my friends out from our table despite getting there 6+hrs prior to game time and going through a shift change. It's amazing they don't get shut down every big soccer match. Thought maybe they'd learned their lesson but clearly they haven't. Gave it two stars because the wings were good and our server did what she could. Management just sucks so bad. All you need is some form of a doorman to keep this place from getting out of control. That's it, but they won't do it. So the experience sucks. read more
