This place (Coburg a road store) used to be so good ... but since pandemic has gone way down hill. The last THREE times I've ordered takeout (nothing complicated- straight off the menu), they've gotten it wrong. Today our meals came with VERY LITTLE chicken (last time too). Mostly a container full of rice and Mac. Mine had 6 pieces of chicken - One a LARGE! I asked for "no rice and extra veggies +1.50) and got 1.5 scoops of rice. This review is based on what happened at my best friends wedding.... My buddy and his wife finally tied the knot and it was a great time. After I did my best man speech, everyone was ready to chow down. Being my friend is (or....was) a huge fan of Hawaiian Time, his heart was set on having them cater the event. The food was great, I've honestly never been let down by this place. But....If you are a bride and wanting your perfect day to go the way you want, it doesn't work too well having someone find a NAIL in the veggies. Obviously, the situation was played out well and nobody made a scene. On the other hand, it was a nail from a nail gun. Small enough to fit in a mouth. That could've been horrible if someone got that in the roof of their mouth. When my friends went back to Hawaiian Time to express their concern, they were treated horribly. They basically said, "screw off" and left it at that, no compensation or anything. This was a catered event for about 100 people....they spent one hell of a pretty penny on this food. They didn't expect to be fully reimbursed or anything, but I would say an effort to make things right is at least deserved. To say the least they will only go to Ron's Island Grill now......I still go to Hawaiian Time because I love the food, but I do think it's jacked up they couldn't make things better with my friends. So i guess moral of the story is, eat here for lunch (easier to be screwed on $8 vs $700)...dont let them cater your wedding, you may get a nasty nail in your food and then treated like hell. read more

So good I went there twice in five days! Hawaiian Time was a recommendation from a few of my family members in Eugene and I can see why. The food was pretty great for a casual dining experience. The first time I went there I got Kahlua Pork with grilled veggies instead of Macaroni Salad. I did try my dad's Mac Salad and it was pretty mayo heavy. Not my thing, but I was told that mixing their teriyaki or some Sriracha into it is a fantastic way to have it. The pork was falling apart when I got it, perfect! The flavor was great and went really well with the teriyaki sauce. Their rice is standard fare, and the second time I went I got grilled veggies in place of both the extra rice and mac salad, and I liked that the best. Their grilled veggies were cooked perfectly, still some crunch but soft enough to eat. They are seasoned a bit, but I'm not sure with what. Service was good, not the quickest place when eating inside but drive thru was quicker. If you're in a hurry I would suggest it. I will definitely be a return customer next time I'm in Eugene. read more

I had the marinated beef option and decided on the larger "Ali" size thinking the portions would be small...but quite the contrary, I would have been better off with the smaller portion, that is unless your looking to take some home. Ordered the Kahlua Pork, it had great flavor and juicy but not fatty like some places tend to make it. The rice was ok, just that of.....white rice, however you can put siracha and teriyaki on it, that always tastes great. Disappointing outing to Hawaiian Time to say the least. To start, they are no longer serving beef. The options on the menu are limited to only a couple chicken entrees. Yummy Mac salad too that is a great counterbalance to the Siracha I always add (blends in perfectly with their sticky rice). I haven't been for a while, but this is my favorite place in town to get Hawaiian food. I always order a "number two" which is some sort of strongly seasoned, thinly sliced beef. All orders come with some scoops of rice and super tasty macaroni salad. They get busy so sometimes the service can be slow-ish, but you can call in and order ahead if you're feeling impatient. 3.5 stars (which is exactly the average for this restaurant right now) Hawaiian Time is yet another addition to what seems to be a growing trend in Hawaiian restaurants in Eugene. I've been a big fan of Hodgepodge for many years, but as the only one left is rather far away from me, and a visit to Ron's really put me off Hawaiian food, it took me a while to make my way to Hawaiian Time. You will probably enjoy this place if you're a fan of teriyaki meats or pulled pork. Avoid if you're a vegetarian (all they have is one dish of teriyaki vegetables) The teriyaki chicken is not overly sweet like at Hodgepodge, nor bone-dry and weirdly smokey like at Ron's, in fact, the flavor is surprisingly good, salty with only a hint of sweetness. The chicken is quite tender too. The meals come served (in a to-go box, whether you eat it there or not) with two scoops of rice, which felt a bit dry for me, since there isn't really any sauce on the chicken (though you can get soy sauce and hot sauce at the front), and there is a lot of rice. I'd have preferred a little less rice and more chicken and/or a bit of extra teriyaki sauce. The standard side is a macaroni salad like at most Hawaiian places in town. The macaroni was perfectly tender, but it seemed to be drowning in mayonaise which was rather off-putting to me. It's really more macaroni-as-vehicle-for-mayo than a real macaroni salad. I took one bite and threw out the rest. The atmosphere is very casual, with tables for four around the room, and rooms in the back with what seemed like long picnic tables that would be good for a group. Very reasonable price-quality proportion. I might go again to get some chicken, but ultimately I found the menu very limited. No rice/noodle dishes of any kind, no real salads like my all time favorite Hodgepodge's Indonesian Peanut Salad, and a lot of rice for limited meat/sauce. However, if you like this kind of casual Hawaiian food you will probably enjoy Hawaiian Time. Certainly much better flavors and quality meat than Ron's Island Grill. Brief addition: I see uploaded pictures here on Yelp and they show way more meat than I received. They also show a lot more macaroni salad than I got, and it looks less drenched in mayo. I don't know if those are the large sizes (I got regular), or whether the quantities/consistencies are inconsistent but if you want what you see in the pictures I would go for the large size. read more

What you get when you go to Hawaiian Time is meat, rice, and macaroni salad. They try to provide a few options for low carb, or vegetarian eaters, but they don't have a huge menu to begin with. When dining in one can stop by the condiments table and add extra sauce including teriyaki, however sometimes people take the bottles to their tables, so you might have to look around. I have never had a problem substituting an extra scoop of rice instead of the macaroni. For the healthy people out there, the Hula Hula Chicken with all rice might be the way to go. I once figured out that the small portion size was about 630 calories and 4g fat with extra sauce, being just an estimate of course. 30 minutes after landing in Eugene (first time in Oregon) my boyfriend, his friend and I headed straight to Hawaiian Time - making sure it was the first thing we did. They literally had been talking about the food for a week straight. We ordered the Huli Huli Chicken, and I have to say it was pretty amazing. It was some of the best teriyaki chicken I've ever had. You get a little styrofoam box with three compartments, 1. chicken 2. rice 3. macaroni salad. It's hard to explain the deliciousness - you have to experience it for yourself. The restaurant is clean. And one of the coolest parts is that it's a hot spot for the Oregon Ducks team. We saw a few of the players cruising in picking up their orders. If you're in Eugene, check it out. read more

The huli huli chicken is amazing, but we had ordered extra mac salad instead of the side of rice and both orders came with nothing but rice. They gave us heaping portions of it, which would have been nice if it was what we ordered. It was kind of ridiculous because it already comes on a large bed of rice. The mauna loa plate is supposed to be spicy, but there doesn't seem to be a hint of spice. We thought maybe the order was wrong on that as well, but I guess it just didn't get any spices. I just got home after ordering 3 sides of it (that was it, just the sides) and it's not even mixed up all the way (like it hasn't been the last few times I've eaten it) and half of it is dry, and the other is just globs of mayonnaise!
