Last time I had this place was when it was on River rd. Originally I thought the place was okay. It was always hit, or miss. More misses than hits. So my reviews are a roller coaster. Boy, what a mistake that was. First of all upon walking in I wasn't greeted for some time. The woman behind the counter was busy doing grub hub orders. She was writing them out on a ticket from her tablet. She could have at least greeted me, and said I will be right with you. No acknowledgment what so ever for a while. There was barely any personality once there was interaction. Not customer service like anyway. I ordered 2 brisket plates with beans, and sweet potatoes. While waiting I was reading some reviews. Some were pretty bad. My gut sank, and I was giving this place the benefit of a doubt. When I got home my food was hot, I was happy about that. I am pretty sure it is because the food was put in the microwave. It just had that texture to it. Rubbery, and hard....and extremely hard to eat. I would like to point out that one of the pieces in the picture was not meat at all. It was nothing but gristle! I felt ripped off, and disgusted! I get there is a certain amount of gristle that comes on a piece of brisket, this was straight gristle no meat! The beans were probably the only edible things. I bet they were from a can. The sweet potatoes were disgusting. They never have been consistent with the same flavor. How do you mess up sweet potatoes? I just can't justify going back here, and I sure hope this review saves someone else the trouble. There has been way to many times a person can take a mishap at a place. I am calling it quits. Let's just say it's a good thing that they make some good meat. We came in on a Sunday with a group of 5 and a baby at lunch time. The parking lot was full so we assumed it was busy but when we went inside there were maybe three tables with people, not sure if it is employees cars or what but there is very little parking especially if 2 or 3 cars are staff cars. There are also no handicap parking spaces in the lot as well as stairs to get into it which makes it not very accessable to everyone. You order at the counter which is fine but they don't even have a few paper menus for you to look at so if there is more than one party wanting to look at the menu then they are all huddled around the front counter looking at the one menu on the wall while other people are trying to order food. The service was over all pretty good with a few weird exceptions that are kinda out of the hostess control. There was a young girl there maybe about ten not sure if she is the owners daughter or what but she was going in and out of the kitchen and helping bring drinks to the tables and stuff. Now I think it's awesome that she's helping out and learning stuff but I'm also not sure that a kid that young can or does have a food handlers card which would make me question if she should be in the kitchen. We often only get water to drink because none of us drink much soda but they don't even have cups for water, you have to buy a bottle. Not a huge deal but a little annoying. Even if you don't have a soda fountain even just a drink dispenser with tap water out in the dinning room with small cups is better than nothing. On to the food I had the pulled pork plate with Mac and yams. The pulled pork was good but greasy the yams we're nothing special but did have some nice caramelization on them. I wanted fries instead of yams but I was told Fries are not considered a side even tho the cost of fries is the same price as any of the other sides that you would get. Just a little weird that I can't get fries as a side without purchasing them separately even tho I ordered a plate that came with two sides. The Mac was so disappointing, not because it tasted bad tho, in fact the flavor was great but the texture was so so bad. It was very grainy and the noodles were a bit over cooked I wanted to love it but I couldn't. My husband got a pulled pork and links sandwich which he liked but said that it was a touch spicy even tho he ordered mild sauce. Also for 10 bucks the sandwich should come with at least chips if not fries. The other three orders in our party were ribs, Philly cheese steak and fish and chips. The fish and chips we're pretty good but VERY over salted! While there is a roll of paper towels on the table it would be nice to have some wet wipes with things like ribs that are super messy. I do understand that this business is new to this space and may be getting used to running a bigger restaurant as opposed to a food truck or smaller location and I do hope that they will make improvements as they get more comfortable in their new space. New Customer, ordered 2 catfish meals, noticed our containers were super light, wish I would've checked when I was there instead brought the food home and was very disappointed, the description did not match what we ordered. Called Tony's spoke with his daughter, asked if I could bring the plates back and receive a refund because what we received was not what we ordered, she said no, but she could give us $10 on an order that cost $40. I explained that our catfish was one piece cut up into 4 little tiny nuggets, not fresh and overcooked, not the nice size pieces on the dinner menu displayed. The macaroni was salty, tasted like it was three days old taken out of the fridge and reheated, the greens...I couldn't tell what meat was in it everything was chopped up, looked like soft wet bacon bits, the cornbread tasted old, very dry, the yams weren't good, tasted like they came out of a can with no effort in making them taste good, everything tasted like reheated frozen old food, at the end of our conversation, she tells me to come on in and she'll replace the meals, went in today and she didn't keep her word, I'm a very understanding person, who never gives bad reviews, I feel like things don't have to be perfect, Just make an effort, offer what you advertise at least... I know times are hard for everyone establishments too, but don't serve old food, don't cheat people out of their money and give something different than what your advertising. Spent $96 (including door dash fee and tip) got dried up beef in bbq sauce. Sides were okay. Coleslaw was good, and baked beans were smoky, spicy in brown sugar sauce. Portions were stated to be 12oz but containers not filled. Luckily ordered 4 extra sides or would not have been enough to feed family. We ordered potato salad and they sent macaroni salad which was sub par. Basically Mayo and macaroni. Expected slow cooked sliced brisket like in menu photo. Not at all what we got. Warning: heavy microwave cooking here. I should have read the reviews here before ordering, but while waiting all you hear is the "ding" of microwave ovens reheating food. The meats might be smoked fresh, but they're certainly not served fresh. My brisket was hard and chewy, indicative of being reheated maybe more than once. There was smoke flavor for sure, but it was tough and chewy. My wife's chicken tips were so hard and chewy she had to ask for a knife and that didn't help. Dry, lacking flavor, and hard as a rock. Again indicative of reheating and overshooting the cook time.. The side dishes are clearly store bought. Coleslaw was not fresh, and was soggy and limp. Baked beans were out of a can and tasted like Bush's baked beans. Cornbread was sad and smaller than a cupcake. And even worse the French fries were soggy and lukewarm. They failed to overcook those in the microwave. Wait time from ordering to delivery while we waited? A cool 50 minutes...for reheated food. They were also understaffed and you could feel the stress in the interactions. There is zero excuse for reheated meat at a bbq place, and the sides why even bother?!?. I guess fresh and good bbq is only reserved for judges in competition. The sad part is I ordered a frozen brisket from Hard8 in Texas and when properly reheated, the meat was just as tender and pull apart as fresh brisket when properly cooked. Upon opening the boxes, we looked at store bought potato salad (no taste), canned baked beans and beef brisket in chunks. In all of our travels, into real BBQ areas we have never run across cubed beef brisket. It tasted like roast beef with some sauce on it, and no evidence of a smoke ring.The hot link was a real hot link and would have been good except it was covered in some kind of sauce of unknown nature. If you're looking for good BBQ I'd go elsewhere. The cornbread was very dry, the bacon jalapeño poppers were ice cold (not sure why), and the meat was lukewarm at best. The baked beans and collard greens tasted like they came directly from a can and were just heated up in a microwave. I didn't get a chance to try the macaroni and cheese because I was given the macaroni salad instead which also tasted just like what you'd pick up in a super market. Two of the items in our order were wrong and weren't what we ordered. As much as I try to always find a positive to note there just weren't any here to mention. There were a couple tables filled, we were greeted as we walked in. We went to the counter and checked out the menu. Wow nice selection of options to choose from. We both ordered the catfish dinner. I ordered the collard greens and mac and cheese, my Mom ordered the collard greens and and coleslaw. The food was out very quickly it was hot and fresh. I want to love your BBQ, Tony. I really do. At least... what I can get of it. We've been ordering this place on DoorDash since Covid, and the first time, the food was tasty, but the portions were abysmally small. Not a huge deal - it was also pretty cheap, so we figured next time, we'd buy individual sides and get some meat by the pound. Can't go wrong with a whole pound of BBQ! Well... it felt pretty light. It was a better portion, but I couldn't help but feel like it probably wasn't a pound. Got it a couple more times, because again, it was tasty, but seemed pretty light. Finally, today, I decided to whip out my postage scale and weigh my "pound" of brisket - it weighed in at 11.3 ounces, including the butcher paper and container. $15 for this portion of brisket seems pretty ridiculous on its own, but the fact that it's advertised as a full pound is what gets me. It seems obvious that weighing the food wouldn't be that hard - but the staff probably figures that most people won't actually weigh it, especially once it's been delivered by DoorDash. The first time it was near closing and basically our driver beg them to give us our food. It turned out great it was the most amazing ribs I've ever had they literally just fell off the bone. So of course without experience for my birthday I wanted to order again. This time they weren't so well done. They were good but not exceptional. Again they didn't seem to know. That we had placed an order until our driver got there. Luckily this time it was way before closing so we got our food. It's really sad that Tony doesn't seem care about reviews or the food he serves people nor its value. The first time I ordered brisket was a few years ago. It's was chopped with bones and cartilage indicating it wasn't actually brisket and the portion was way too small, so I chose not to go back. I'm pretty sure I complained about it then. Fast forward to today, I decided to give him another chance. I ordered the beef ribs. It was $15+ dollars and I got one rib, mostly bone, and two sides. The greens were flavorful but the potato salad, I suspect, was cheap Reser's deli potato salad. I love good bbq and he woulda made plenty of money from me in the last few years if he would just put some love and pride in his food. This review is based off of the Brisket Dinner. Worst brisket in town, in fact worst brisket I've had by a long shot. The meat seemed like it was probably cooked correctly, but it was served almost as a stew with how much and how thin the barbecue sauce was. The picture on their wall shows a few slices of brisket but what was served was chopped brisket. That mixed with the thin barbecue sauce really made it look like wet pet food. The texture was awful. I imagine pet food has a similar texture to it as well. Because it was so chopped up and drowned in sauce, the meat texture that you would expect from BBQ was non-existent. The overall flavor was weak, almost as if it had been watered down. But it was somehow better than the Mac-and-cheese and the Wild Berry Cheesecake. The mac seemed old and the cheesecake tasted like it was left uncovered in a cooling unit for too long. It tasted like a refrigerator. I ate the Brisket, the cornbread (can't mess that up, right?) a few bites of the mac and one bite of the cheesecake. I only ate that much because I paid $16 for the food plus tip. My partner and I are Southern transplants (Virginia and Florida), so when we moved to Oregon about a year ago I more or less accepted we would have to go back to the East coast to get real barbecue. Unfortunately I would not be able to recommend this business due to the unbelievable rudeness we experienced! I had called about 3 hrs before our pickup to order 1 and 1/2 racks and knew I would not be picking up until close to their closing time. I was told no problem and he would definitely put those aside for me. However, when we got there he only had a 1/2 rack??? I tried to ask how can that be and he had no explanation and no apology! My friend was a bit irate with him and his lack of any customer service, caring or accomodations. He then called her a "Karen", which I believe to be a racist remark due to his actions and walked away saying he has to use the bathroom?! We went to Tony's for lunch dine in. We waited over an hour for our food and drinks. We ordered the rib tip dinner plate, it was 80% bones and fat. I bit into what I thought was meat and it was a soft bone that turned to dust in my mouth. The meat was old like it was made the week before (I know business are having a tuff times but using old meat and reheating is just gross. At this point I was done. The collard greens are NOT homemade they are CANNED GLORY GREENS. Only thing good was the MAC this is why they get 1 star. This is the second time eating there, the 1st time was the same hour wait, food was ok but very small portions, and we were still hungry after we left. The beef brisket sandwich is heavenly. Good sized portions, perfectly seasoned and very tender. We ate at the restaurant, which I don't think we'll do again. The restaurant is super clean, as is the rest room. Tables are spaced far enough to get around when it's crowded. Service was fast and friendly. What doesn't work is that they have no paper cups, so you're drinking out of a can or a single use plastic bottle for water, and to go containers are styrofoam. The sandwich combos include a bag of chips and soda in a can. Would have liked some slaw instead of bagged chips as an option. There are some sandwiches that have slaw on them in the menu The TV was on some creepy true life murder show, which was not our favorite thing to hear while having lunch. It's kind of a challenge to get into the parking lot if you're coming from Belt Line, but the barbecue is worth the visit. Next time we're doing take out. read more

Very dissatisfied, full disclaimer I am friends with one of his competitors so I am trying not to be biased but this was crap. I've only eaten at the junction city Location so maybe the other spots have better food. For almost thirty bucks we had two sandwiches and a tiny carton of mac and cheese which tasted like blue box with some gritty shredded mild cheddar thrown in and no seasoning, no seasoning is going to be mentioned again. Now to the brisket sandwich, I'm pretty sure he uses his cap trim for the sandwich because it was mostly fat, no seasoning and not much smoke just mush on soggy bread with boring sauce. I'm a bbq guy myself and brisket isn't my best, I know a half dozen people who make better brisket than me but this guy is not one of them. Now the pulled pork sandwich, omg no flavor and the texture of baby food with some anemic slaw which tasted like bagged walmart stuff, no pepper, no vinegar just cabbage and mayo...uggh! I'm very reluctant to post a less than stellar review of a locally owned and operated restaurant of any kind. In fact, I go out of my way to find and support them. However, yeaterday's visit was a disappointment. I had the brisket dinner with mac and cheese and cole slaw for the sides. Instead of the slices of brisket as shown in the picture behind the counter, these were a motley mix of small, miscellaneous pieces in more grease than sauce. Very disappointing. The mac and cheese tasted like it came out a Stouffer's foodservice pan of mac and cheese. Very well could have been, as it had that kind of bland uniformity. The slaw was slaw mix in foodservice slaw dressing. Nothing remarkable or distinctive about it. The corn muffin was warm and had a nice chew to it. That was god. I wanted and continue to want this place to be better and do a better job with the food. Just throw in some mustard and horseradish into the slaw dressing and you'll have something memorable rather than utterly forgettable. Start making your own mac and cheese and people will talk about it and start coming in for it. As it stands, you're better off taking it off the menu as a side. For the brisket, save the scraps for the sandwiches and maybe throw into the mac and cheese (there's an idea!) to make it more memorable. I understand it's difficult to own and operate your own business but in order to be competitive, you folks need to stand out and nothing about this dinner was outstanding. I really wish I could write a better review for y'all but you have to step up and make it worthy. I sincerely hope you take this constructive criticism to heart. Holy cow! Authentic Southern BBQ, Tony is going to give Papa's Soul Food a run for its money! This is a food truck type situation, with outdoor covered seating. When you walk up it smells like summer! It also reminded me of hole in the wall restaurants you randomly find while traveling in other countries. I got flashbacks of amazing foods I've had abroad. I had the chicken dinner, which was the most perfect, tender BBQ chicken and the most perfect spicy BBQ sauce, with two sides of your choice. I had the mac and cheese and the beans. It was a great deal too, with the chicken you get a drumstick, a thigh, a breast, and a wing. My husband had a pulled pork sandwich that had sausage links on it. Delicious! Tony was sweet and helpful, and although River Road is one of my least favorite places in all of Eugene, I will be coming back here to eat EVERYTHING! read more

We stopped by BBQ by Tony's to taste the menu for wedding catering ideas. We had the bbq chicken sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, large side of Mac n cheese, and a corn bread. We have not eaten there before and we were greeted by a less then enthusiastic order taker. Both the bbq chicken and pulled pork was delicious, moist, and flavorful. The large Mac n cheese was cheesy and flavorful as well, but disappointed in the size. I would consider the dish a small appetizer vs a normal side dish. The order taker person also delivered our food but forgot the cornbread. Again with the enthusiasm of a wet noodle. When we got the side of cornbread it was more of a shot of corn bread which half stuck to the cup cake wrapper. The flavor was OK but we were not offered butter or anything to add to it. Overall taste was good, but disappointed with the overall experience. The website really talked about fantastic service, but fell well short of that today. read more

Holy balls I love this place. Fair warning. First off. The only complaint you might come up with is the meat portions can be a little small. I think I got a half pound or less of beef brisket with my meal. But it was amazing. Worth it. You won't find anything else to complain about. And it's worth trying anyway!!! If I was a rich person I'd order multiple orders of the beef brisket... I could gorge myself on that stuff. There was plenty of sides. I had the collard greens because I'm lactose intolerant, but they were surprisingly very good. My order was right on time and it was delicious and everything as expected. Try them at least once.
