Holy cow! Authentic Southern BBQ, Tony is going to give Papa's Soul Food a run for its money! This is a food truck type situation, with outdoor covered seating. When you walk up it smells like summer! It also reminded me of hole in the wall restaurants you randomly find while traveling in other countries. I got flashbacks of amazing foods I've had abroad. I had the chicken dinner, which was the most perfect, tender BBQ chicken and the most perfect spicy BBQ sauce, with two sides of your choice. I had the mac and cheese and the beans. It was a great deal too, with the chicken you get a drumstick, a thigh, a breast, and a wing. My husband had a pulled pork sandwich that had sausage links on it. Delicious! Tony was sweet and helpful, and although River Road is one of my least favorite places in all of Eugene, I will be coming back here to eat EVERYTHING! read more

Straight up BBQ, the plates are very simple, prices are fair, food is good, I wouldn't say it's excelling but it's a good quick bite. The entire experience is just okay. They use disposable plates and cutlery, even when you're eating it there... not really sure what that's about. And I had hoped to just get a glass of water but was handed a plastic water bottle... again, not fantastic. The food itself was decent. The mac and cheese tasted like it had been made a few days prior and was microwaved. Not the biggest deal but also not a great look. The chicken was good, but I wish they were consistent with their cuts of meat. I got the chicken tenders, and while some pieces were absolutely delicious, white breast meat, the other pieces must have been thigh meat. It was chewy and had cartilage or something equally unexpected and unappetizing. The food took a while, even though there was just one other couple in the restaurant. I'd say the wait time was longer than your average bbq joint. Probably much longer. So if you go, be prepared for that. And lastly, service was fine. Our waitress wasn't polite but also wasn't rude. Consistently delicious BBQ! After trying several various sandwiches on the menu, I always come back to the Mac Attack; a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with a big scoop of homemade mac n' cheese in it. I get it with the spicy BBQ sauce. Heavenly! Decent pricing for a big sandwich. We usually skip additional sides - they are a bit pricey. This food truck can be busy around lunch and dinner time, but service is always quick. We often get our food to go, but there is a covered seating area up front. I think the food is really good. I read through the reviews and I get what people are saying. They want fancy bbq and sides that don't taste like the stuff you would get at a 4th of July family gathering. But that's what I feel like Tony's delivers. It is exactly what I've been looking for amongst the fancy schmancy places that taste like something you'd see in Bon Appetite or on a cooking show competition. It's just home style cooking. Big mistake, couldn't find a server to get a to go box, mac and cheese was watery and gritty, candied yams were slimy and no candy to them... only the meat tasted half way decent, but even I can't screw up bbq brisket... so I'm not sure that's a plus. Just had another amazing meal from Tony's BBQ at the new Hwy 99 location. This place is cute! It and the awesome friendly service reminds me of my fav BBQ joint in Texas. I was in dire need of some BBQ and they hooked it up. Brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad, a soda and peach cobbler to go...$18.50. Now, I'm sure some folks would say that's pricey. However I have no problem paying this when I actually see a smoker puffing away, a smoke ring on my brisket on a toasted bun, in house made potato salad with Tony's very own spicy BBQ sauce. I went to Tony's today for a pound of Brisket. It took forever..... 25 minutes for them to put some meat in a box. No sides.! $15 for a pound! Got home and weighed it, it was 7.4 lbs! I called and complained.... long story short! Went back... they handed me a "chunk of brisket "! Got home and weighed it.... 4 ounces!!! So now I'm at 11 ounces!! Called back and complained AGAIN! it's sad really, their beef rib is really good. everything else is just... eh. the worst part about it though is the service. I've never seen people care less about their job in the service industry. long waits and non responsive staff were the theme. even when you did manage to wake them out of their mid shift slumber, you would still have to repeat your self 2 or 3 times to get what you wanted. it wasn't just us either, I sat in the front and watched it happen to every patron that walked in. also half our food had to be remade because they ruined it the first time. dont waste your time with this place, if you want the real deal you half to go to cottage grove and go to big stuff. read more

This is the worst establishment I have ever been to!! Trust me when I say I would rather eat an MRE than this crud, and I have ate many MRE's in my lifetime to say this. Where do you start? I mean REALLY?! I walked in the door and the lady never acknowledged I was there, not like "I will be with you in a min" or anything... in fact the cook in the back said you have someone waiting. I waited 45 min for my food. I heard microwaves going off left and right and the door continuing to open and close, so what was I waiting for if its a box dinner? I got my order to go, I live 5 min away down Barger. I ate the jalapeño poppers on the way home... or at least tried to... the bacon that it was wrapped with was not good.. Very fatty, chewy, and the meat that was on it (not fat, meat) was way overdone, as I couldn't even chew it at all. The center of the popper was cold. The macaroni was good, and so was the baked beans,,, BUT!! ... The meat was hard as a rock, had a gritty texture, and so much fat. I had two bites, had my husband take a bite, and he immediately spit it out, and said "THATS AWFUL!". 10 min after eating it, I got a belly ache. So much food wasted, and such a bad experience. I asked for brisket and pulled pork and two sides, collard greens and bbq beans. Then she said the total was $19.50. I thought that was a lot, but thought I would have plenty of left overs to take. Our Company decided to order a meal package for 25 employees. I personally have eaten there before and the brisket melted in your mouth. This time not so much. **The food is days old and microwaved** Blown away by the "service" I just recieved at Tony's. I ordered a chicken plate with two sides, got the food and the chicken was cold, I took it back and heard the cook stick it in the microwave, when asked if they are using a microwave to warm my food up he said yes that's how they heat up the food. I then said I would not have eaten here had I known the food was microwaved and not remotely fresh. The cook was so rude I then asked for my money back, and was given my $13 back with a hasty attitude. As I went to sit in my car, the girl who took my order comes out and ask me if I still have the corn muffin that came with my meal. I say yes, and she ask if she can have it back? So I go to hand it to her even though I had taken a bite, but then she tells me I need to pay her a dollar for the muffin because now she can't resell it. What in the? Is this real life? Why are you trying to resell food that has already been given to a customer and left the food cart. She then proceeds to tell me a lot of businesses use the microwave for the food, and if I don't pay her for the muffin she will have to pay for it. Really great food, but we called three times and they didn't pick up, so I drove down. They had exactly two customers in the place. I tried to order but halfway through, guess what? Phone call. Yup. The girl behind the counter who seemed unable to make eye contact literally picked up a cell phone as I was in mid-sentence. Just surreal. So, 30 minutes later, my food is ready and I take it home. As I'm unwrapping it I notice that my wife had been shipping some boxes, so what the heck, right? I put it on the scale. Our pound of pulled pork weighed in at 12.6 ounces and our half-pound of brisket at an even 6 WITH the packaging. Dammit Tony! I want to love you! Why won't you let me love you? Here is why I only give it an overall 3 star. The gal that takes orders not sure if she is owner or not, but she needs to take a happy pill. My husband and I were very excited about trying this place as we had heard good things. However it was not a pleasant experience. The food was old and seemed to be just microwaved in the plastic plate they are served on. The Mac and cheese was a clumpy greasy mess and the baked beans were obviously canned as they had little flavor. The cornbread muffin was dry and bland. The meats themselves we're decent but you could tell they were not fresh. Would not recommend this place at all. And to top it all off the service was not friendly. They weren't the skinny shoestring fries, so I was happy. They could have been cooked slightly longer for a crisper fry. After having Papa's Soul Food, this place just doesn't compare. I feel really disappointed with this place. For the same price, Papa's in heads above this place.
