Mauna Loa Chicken (tastes like teriyaki chicken)
Kathy L.

SHAME ON YOU!! Return trip to Eugene and was craving Hawaiian plate lunch. I came across this place and my heart skipped a beat and I thought I could get some comfort food. Shameful that they would call themselves "Hawaiian" because there was nothing Hawaiian about it. Sure they served kalua pig, offered mac salad and scoops of rice with the meal, but that was it. We ordered Huli Huli chicken & the Mauna Loa chicken. Firstly, Huli Huli means to slowly turn--roasted/grilled chicken--should be whole pieces or maybe served on skewers. I'm not sure what I got, but it wasn't huli huli like I am used to having. This should be renamed Teriyaki Chicken! Next was their Mauna Loa Volcano Chicken--supposed to be sweet with a little spicy?? NOT!! The 2 chicken dishes both looked and tasted like teriyaki chicken, but to make matters worse, they didn't even care to differentiate the 2 because to them it is probably all the same--like teriyaki chicken. The mac salad was okay, but classic Hawaiian mac salad has some carrots in it...this had nothing. Bigger disappointment is there was no beef offerings or seafood and only offered kalua pig. No teri beef, kalbi, garlic shrimp or chicken katsu. I can understand not offering saimin (ramen), but to not offer the basic loco-moco, a Hawaiian standard is terrible. Let's not even talk about their failure to provide any kind of SPAM on the menu or ANY KIND of musubi. Please remove any reference to Hawaii, Hawaiian or Hawaiian plate lunch from your business name and offerings because clearly you are not. Selling Hawaiian Sun drinks is not a saving grace. If this is a franchise, then ALL your franchises have got it wrong--there is ZERO authenticity and consider adding quotes around the name "Hawaiian" because it seems more of an attempt to make Hawaiian-like food without any authenticity.

#2. Honolulu Beef
Jerry C.

Felt super hungry after work, so I wanted something super filling and with a huge portion. So glad I came here! The place was under renovation, so the tables were put away. However, the staff was super nice. The flavor of the beef was soooo good! It was really filling and I couldn't finish it, so I kept it for my next meal. It was 2 meals in one haha, and for what it cost the return ratio was high! Would go again!! 10/10 recommend

#3. Huli Huli Chicken, #6. Mauna Loa Chicken and Macaroni Salad
Isabella N.

I ordered my food in advance over their website (a bit outdated but worked alright), and it was ready within about 20 minutes. After tip, I ended up paying 15 dollars for the combination plate of rice, Mac salad, the Mauna Loa chicken, and the Huli Huli chicken. Before other charges, it is 11.95. I feel that I could have maybe gotten some more food for the price, but it was pretty good! It's okay Hawaiian good for Eugene, but the overall service was great! Very friendly servers.

They have beef back on the menu. It's good. I think the Loren style garlic beef is better than the teriyaki.

No chicken breast. No beef. Place always seems dirty and sticky. It had been good in the past with more variety

Good food, slow service. I'm sitting here 20 minutes to get my order. Still hasn't arrived even though it's not crowded.

One of our good friends is Hawaiian and therefore quite opinionated on the subject. Finding authentic and delicious Hawaiian food is a legit challenge. We walked up to the truck and were immediately greeted by the cashier. He was friendly and helpful. The first thing I noticed was his accent. He sounded exactly like the Hawaiian friend I mentioned earlier. So I thought this was a good sign. Both him and the other employee who gave us our food were super friendly and kind. That vibe and energy always makes me smile. My husband ordered the garlic chicken and I ordered teriyaki beef. They only had three options on the menu, and the third being pulled pork. Both plates came with rice and macaroni salad. Everything was delicious. Portions seemed a tad small for the price, but I really didn't care. I was full, and it was delicious. I text our friend about this business, and he said it is hands down THE best Hawaiian food in town. Which I definitely agree with. It is a small family run business, and I love it. Our friend said they've scaled back to only doing events like the spring game where we found them and catering, which makes me super sad. Because I would totally go out of my way to visit them and eat there again. I'd become a regular real quick. Despite the fact they only do events and catering, if you find them at an event you're attending, give them a try! It is so worth it. You'll thank me, I promise. Review 29 of 2025.

My MIL asked to have her beef cooked well-done and the cashier replied that their beef is pre-cooked? So that was a little unsettling. Gotta love a good Tiki Bar!…read more We had an hour to kill before an appointment so we Yelped unique bars in the area and found The Monkey's Paw in Springfield. The profile looked pretty cool so we decided to go there for a drink. Once inside, it was pretty dark which is typical for a Tiki Bar. The decor was very good and there was a lot of it around. My fave was the mermaid skeleton above our seats. The drinks options were plentiful and they even had jello shots for a bargain price (we had a few of these for good measure!). I had The Monkey's Paw classic drink and another in our party had The Invisible Man drink. Each was lovingly prepared by the bartender who was super cool with the prep and conversations we had with him. I loved walking around and looking at all the decor on the walls and ceiling. There's a lot to see. There's even a door that leads to a courtyard with several food trucks ready to serve you. There is a stage near the entrance for bands and a small dance floor. I would love to return one evening to check out the atmosphere and do a little boogeying! Give this place a try. It's a well done Tiki Bar and one of the better ones I've been to.

Salmon was equally good; the coating was light and their homemade tartar sauce very good. They offer 6 other sauces besides tarter and ketchup, which is a nice option. They have live fish and seafood, plus cases of whole crabs, fish filets and much more. Their cole slaw looked really good, but we had already eaten.
