"Insubstantial" is the best word to summarize this bar. Monkey's Paw feels like a temporary pop-up store: there's plenty of seating, but it feels impermanent as if they hadn't fully moved in. The decor feels arbitrary and hasn't grown in the 3 years between my visits. The bartop is tiny despite plenty of wide open space in the venue, adding to that empty feeling. But it's the only tiki bar for miles and it has a unique tiki + horror theme that I appreciate: emphasizing creepy mugs, playing vintage Godzilla on the TV, and a collection of drinks named after monsters. They also have custom mugs for sale, which is always awesome to see. My partner enjoyed her Chinese Mai Tai, but my Bride of Frankenstein tasted like light cream. The service was good. They were professional and personable and bantered well with everyone around the bar. There seemed to be plenty of regulars making the rounds in the early afternoon. Gotta love a good Tiki Bar! We had an hour to kill before an appointment so we Yelped unique bars in the area and found The Monkey's Paw in Springfield. The profile looked pretty cool so we decided to go there for a drink. Once inside, it was pretty dark which is typical for a Tiki Bar. The decor was very good and there was a lot of it around. My fave was the mermaid skeleton above our seats. The drinks options were plentiful and they even had jello shots for a bargain price (we had a few of these for good measure!). I had The Monkey's Paw classic drink and another in our party had The Invisible Man drink. Each was lovingly prepared by the bartender who was super cool with the prep and conversations we had with him. I loved walking around and looking at all the decor on the walls and ceiling. There's a lot to see. There's even a door that leads to a courtyard with several food trucks ready to serve you. There is a stage near the entrance for bands and a small dance floor. I would love to return one evening to check out the atmosphere and do a little boogeying! Give this place a try. It's a well done Tiki Bar and one of the better ones I've been to. read more

This might be my favorite bar in all of Eugene and Springfield. I love a good tiki bar! The cocktails are always delicious, the atmosphere and decor is well done, and they have food trucks outside so you can stay for a while and enjoy a meal. These guys nailed the tiki experience! We had a great time trying multiple signature and classic tiki cocktails. The Scorpion Bowl was served in a custom made ceramic bowl complete with pyrotechnics. So much fun. The staff is really friendly and service was great. The atmosphere is loaded with vintage finds that is like a fun kitschy museum. There's an impressive collection of food trucks right outside the door in addition to a few food items offered in-house. We had a little of both. It has a dark, yet colorful interior that is completely decorated in the Tiki style from floor to ceiling (even both of their bathrooms are decorated and themed--Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Creature From the Black Lagoon). The server greeted us and brought over menus immediately--we hadn't even taken off our coats and sat down before they were at our table! There was plenty of seating both at the bar and around the lounge. They also had a pool table and a door that leads directly to a group of food trucks outside (we had eaten dinner beforehand so we did not actually get to try any, but it is a nice option). They have a ton of different cocktails, some mock tails, as well as beer and their own small food menu. We ended up ordering 2 rounds and got the following drinks: - Creature From the Black Lagoon - The Monkeys Paw - El Diablo - Blue Hawaii All very delicious, and, again, super fun! My favorite was the Creature From the Black Lagoon--not only was it very yummy, but it was the prettiest lavender color from the ube. This place was great. I'm a big fan of Tiki and anything Hawaiian. I was looking for something while I was doing a trip across Oregon and I just saw happened to come across a few tiki bars. They all sucked. Some had the decorations others had just the name, while others didn't resemble a tiki bar at all. Until I came to this place the monkeys paw what a great establishment. They had all the decor, the right lighting and the correct music. What more can one ask for. When you go into this place, you feel totally immersed and like your escape to another place you don't even feel like you're in Oregon. Help this was extremely helpful kind and really made our day. I liked it so much. I actually bought it souvenir glass I plan on going back to Oregon about every six months. I'm hoping that they survive for many years as this place will be my new watering hole .
