Yesterday I needed new blades for my X-acto Knife and some Gorilla Glue (the actual glue, not the weed strain, stoner). I stopped by Harbor Freight Tools like I occasionally do, because it's on my way from here to there and has a generally good selection and positive vibe. It could have been a 5 minute side-jaunt, but I can't go into a store like this without browsing. I like fixing things. I like knowing what stuff does. Hardware stores are like a toy store for me. I have to walk the aisles and look at things, make little mental notes of things I haven't seen before and play with some of the stuff. I'm not the only one, am I? I like doing this at Harbor Freight Tools because the store is not overly big. I can browse the whole store in less than an hour. I pretty much have the store memorized now, but they surprise me sometimes. Like yesterday they had a bunch of welding helmets. I don't need to weld anything, but for fourty-four bucks and some change plus tax, I almost took one home. Helmets are cool, yo. I could totally pull that look off. No? Much to my chagrin, I went to the end of aisle 2 to get my glue and it wasn't there. Hmm, that's where it is. I could feel a Rain Man, "10 minutes to Wapner" type of moment coming on. So I asked for help. I hate doing that. It shows weakness. The lady said, "end of aisle 2." Yeah, I was there, but as soon as she said it I realized: 1) I don't have eyes in the back of my head, and b) I'm too stupid to rotate my body and look on the other side of the aisle. See, my memory is sometimes reversed and I forget to flip it flipping back. Argh. I went to the same helpful lady at the checkout. She asked if I found what I was looking for. I confessed my idiocy. She took pity on me and signed me up for discounts and gave me some on the spot. I saved money. Now if I give them my mom's phone number when I checkout I can keep getting discounts. Cool. I hope my friend whose email address I gave them as a joke doesn't get too many junk mails from them. I like this store. I'm a repeat customer. Its not good when Harbor Freight does not have a replacement floor jack handle for a Pittsburg 1.5 ton aluminum floor jack. My handle's bottom-round- piece with the square- hole detached while using my jack. It seemed to be poorly welded and I ran out of my one year warranty. My next step was to buy another jack handle but Harbor Freight did not sell it. I was given a hot line number and a customer service representative advised me that this jack handle is not available on its inventory and, therefore, it can not be ordered to sale. Customer service gave me information on other floor- jack stores, which did not carry my jack handle design and model. Now, Harbor Freight sells floor jack handles for their 2 or 3 ton floor jacks models but a dead end for me since the shoe does not fit. Harbor Freight and Pittsburg manufacturer gets 1 star rating for a poorly designed jack handle and for not keeping up with its products, customers demand, and competitive business. With this experience, I'm considering other products and business stores that can be more reliable to a customer, where this store can have a better inventory , alternatives, and solution for its customers. read more

I got a coupon for $200 the 6'x8' greenhouse so I called to check with Nicole to make sure they have it in stock. I was a little concerned when she told me I cannot use certain coupon because I have to drive all the way from SF. It turned out to be no problem and I am surprised at how good the service is. I found a little damage in the first box so I asked them to exchange it, no problem. While waiting for help to get the box to my car, I observed a couple who bought a big snake machine for the drain. They probably were having some issue with the machine and a store clerk tried to help them out using a tool (look like a screw driver). The customer wanted to pay for the tool for the guy at the cash register (probably the manager) said just give it to him. I read couple bad reviews about the store manager at this location. However, if he is the guy that I saw, I feel that he is pretty good with customer service even though he may not have the best manner with his communication. I am also impressed with the gentlemen who helped to get the box to my car. He tried to load the box into my SUV but it would not fit. He suggested to give me his bungee cord to tie down my trunk. I finally took out all the parts and left the box at the store front. Comparing to Home Depot and other big box stores, I feel that HBF has the best customer service and their prices are way cheaper than Home Depot and Lowe's. I wish that they expand their stores to nearby SF. read more

I love the fact that if a tool breaks, whether it has a lifetime warranty or a replacement plan, I can simply go into a store and replace it... HASSLE FREE! I went to Harbor Freight shortly before they were closing and the item I bought was located behind the store in their warehouse. Extremely poor customer service. In fact--no customer service at all. I will NEVER again order from Harbor Freight. I ordered a $1,400 tool box on July 11th.The toolbox was to be delivered to my residence on July 23rd. I took off work and waited. July 23 came and there was no call from the trucking company, Road Runner Freight. Thereafter I called them 3 times a day for 5 days and sat hours in voice mail. (Little did I know that this pattern would continue for nearly 60 days). I was finally told that they were waiting for a lift gate. Really? Did they just realize that they had to get it off the truck and couldn't just push it out of a cargo jet from 10,000 feet? Tell me--when a customer orders a 600 pound toolbox, advising that the customer is handicapped, and that it is being delivered to a residence is it unreasonable to believe that Harbor Freight and its shipper might be able to get it off the truck? On one of my countless telephone calls to Harbor Freight I talked with the rudest customer service agent I have ever spoken to. Road Runner Freight blamed it on Harbor Freight and Harbor Freight blamed it on Road Runner Freight. I was hung up on by the customer service representative. Harbor Freight's customer service stopped the minute they got my credit card. I have heard countless voicemail jingles... "Harbor Freight treats you like family"... "We may record this call so we get it right...." Attached is a video of the driver dropping and rolling the toolbox end over end in my driveway. (And I do mean dropped and rolled it off the pallet jack). I had to call two friends to come over and assist the truck driver in getting the tool box to my garage door. Upon inspection the tool box was bent and damaged. The bottom right of the pallet had been completely damaged before the tool box even came off the truck. The shipment was rejected. My two friends had to help the truck driver reload the damaged toolbox. It took numerous calls to Harbor Freight to set up a new order. Thereafter, for some unknown reason the "computer" cancelled my order twice. After countless hours (yes hours) of wading through voicemail the tool box was reordered and reshipped. Asking for a supervisor or manager isn't going to help. On August 20th it was delivered again by Roadrunner Freight. Attached are photographs of the forklift damage, including holes, in the cardboard packing box. Not one, but multiple holes. I now have a toolbox in my garage with, a bent top rail, missing endcaps and a bent drawer. Harbor Freight says they will replace the drawer but it will take three months. Of course the gift certificate Harbor Freight offered for my trouble never showed up. I am still waiting for the replacement drawer.So, if you don't need to use the item you ordered for seven (7) months Harbor Freight is just fine! read more

This review regards an online purchase. On 12/31/21 I ordered an orbital sander/buffer from Harbor Freight. Not sure if my complaint should be directed at Harbor Freight, their shipping company (FedEx) or perhaps both. My debit card was of course charged but the item never shipped. As of the writing of this review (01/11/22) the item still has not shipped and the projected delivery date remains "pending." I wrote to Harbor Freight three times and never received a response to help resolve this issue. FedEx simply sent out their generic automated circular responses which never offered an explanation or resolution. Today I reported the problem to my bank. I am pretty sure I won't be shopping Harbor Freight or using FedEx in the future. Pretty poor way to run a business imo. read more

I noticed the ads in the Murky News Sunday paper and the prices like everyone else piqued my interest. If you are interested in an item for sate here is worthy advice, TAKE THE AD PAPER WITH YOU! I wish I had a dollar for every person in the store that asked me for my Sunday ad paper or wanted to know where I got it! Unlike most large box stores that have them in front of the building for your perusal, Harbor Freight does not. They also do sort of a bait and switch when you get to the store and find the item you wanted, it does not look as good as the ones next to it at a higher price, or you take the higher priced item instead of the discounted one. The nice thing is the guy at the counter DID give me all the discounts on the paper that I qualified for and the free screwdriver set plus the 20% discount on the total which made me happy. So when you go there do your homework and save the Sunday insert and take it with you! Oh and it is next door to Barefoot Coffee Roasters so if you get there early you can score some good java on your way home. read more

Nice find. I was searching desperately for a Home Depot after Lowe's epically failed me in landing a 1/2 inch breaker bar (I had bolt on my car that wouldn't budge). My plan was to stop at Freedom burrito next door for a quick bite, and bam what do a see next door but a store that specializes in tools? Talk about luck. They close at 9 and I entered at 8:57. The breaker bars were right in the front row. I got a 17" made by Pittsburgh Tools for $10 and an adapter set for $4. The same thing sells on Amazon for $15 and $6 respectively. I agree the checkout was pokey (I was paying cash and it seemed to take forever) but apparently the manager keeps and eye on it to make sure you're buying the right tool for you job. read more

The following review is not for harbor freight as a business but this particular Harbor freight location: One solid star for being a solid hub with cheap tools. -4 stars from management / staff being arrogant/ignorant. Harbor freight has a lowest price guarantee if I can show that a competitor has an item for cheaper. I asked them if they could price match and 2 cashiers & 1 manager never heard of such a thing. I showed them their website and the manager said that he only price matches that which is on Harbor freight's online website. I read out loud to him the pertinent portion and he was still a jerk about things. It really sucks that the harbor freight location in Santa Clara has poor management. This is the new Santa Clara location, prior to this I used to come out to the Hayward location to get my Harbor Freight fix. This location does lack a few things the Hayward location has, like a pet section. But aside from that they have all the usual suspects. Harbor Freight is the man's man's store. It has everything you need at very low prices, with great quality. So again, what business do I have here? I come here and pick up crafting tools. Yes, they have lots of the major tools I use for crafting. Like needle nose pliers and micro shear flush cutters. They have have stamping tools here if you need just your basic letters and numbers. They also have hammers of all sizes. I picked up their smallest one for less than $5. You can also get a pair of protective glasses for about a buck. Great deals can be found here. So glad there's a location closer to home. read more

I love this place! The tools are super light duty in most cases but the low price means you can pick up specialty tools for one job and not expect them to last. I was overjoyed to find out a Harbor Freight was opening up down the street from my new pad. As I used to live out in Fremont, I used to frequent the location they had out there practically every weekend, just to look for some new tool I didn't have in my arsenal. Compared to the Fremont store, I really like how organized, clean and spacious this new location is. I also like the fact that in the past few months, I've needed various specialty tools (bearing puller, bent-end needle-nose pliers, etc) and this store had them in stock! Not having to special order tools is simply AWESOME. I personally wouldn't trust buying any precision equipment here (like a torque wrench or micrometer), but if you need some basic/simple tools then definitely give these guys a try. Practically everything here is priced very reasonably, and everything I've bought from them has held up nicely over the years. Will definitely keep coming here for the foreseeable future! read more

I was looking for a cheap saw with decent reviews and google brought me over to their website. The store is located only 10 minutes from where I live so I went to go check it out and was blown away by how friendly everyone was. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly by the store employees. This place reminds me of a Dollartree store for tools but everything isn't a dollar, it's just cheap! It has that weird smell like Neil J. mentions (carcinogenic smell) that took me by surprise. When we were done shopping, I felt instant relief from the "fresh breath of air" outside. This would be the place to go if you need some tools to fix something but don't want to spend lots of $$$. Disclaimer: If you're looking for a set of MUST-HAVE quality tools, such as a set of screwdrivers or a set of sockets+wrenches, look elsewhere and buy American (Craftsmen, Husky, etc). HOWEVER, if you're looking for a specialized tool that you'll probably use only a few times, Harbor Freight is the place to go! For the life of me I was trying to unscrew a phillips screw that appeared to be FUSED to my idle air control valve for my car. I had spent hours already trying to take off the throttle body so I was determined. At a recommendation from a friend, I headed to HFT to buy an "impact screwdriver" that cost me 7 bucks and came with an assortment of flatheads and philips. After pounding the impact driver the screw came off effortlessly. I also needed a needle nose plier to unclip some hard to reach bands. TWO BUCKS! read more

Ok..I HATE tools..I hate the smell of them I hate being around them but really..they're a necessity and my hubby loves working on cars and thankfully, around the house, so without tools, I dunno where we'd be. We saw an awesome ad in our AAA magazine and I knew that my hubby was looking for a jackstand..the current one was not stable and that is not a good thing because its a jackstand that is holding up a car and you're under it... Saw an ad for $50! We went by there and the place was huge. As soon as you walk through the doors a huge gush of tools sets in. AHHHH but for anyone that needs to find tools...this is heaven. They have everything and its really good priced. He found the jackstand for only $50. Also, a few other tools, don't know what they are since they all look the same to me, for $10 as oppose to $100. Store wise, its much cleaner that other harbor freights I've been in, bins are tidy, floor is clean. This is in comparison to the Fremont store which always seemed depressing both with the staff and how not tidy the place is. Came in to buy a several hundred dollar piece of equipment. As I walked in the boy at the register just looked at me, no proper greeting. There were only 2 other customers in the store and no customer at the register. I went and got the pull ticket for the equipment I wanted to purchase and brought it to the register. His computer said they were out. I mentioned that it is not unheard of for their inventory to be wrong and asked him if someone could physically check? He declined. I asked him "are you refusing to physically check your inventory." He said yes. He wasn't wearing a name tag. Young white guy clearly in need of a career change. Going in, you should already know "you get what you pay for". So having said that, we expect to get great prices for items that let's just say... might not be of professional grade. BUT, that's no excuse for awful customer service. I think of this place of getting a disposable tool. If you need something where you don't need it to last, but only to use the tool for a few simple tasks, this is where to get it. Where most things are made in China these days, this place has 99% of its' stuff made in China; inexpensive and cheap in quality. First thing you'll notice as you walk in the store is the overpowering smell of the petroleum base products; can cause a headache. The store is well kept and things were fairly easy to find. They do have some unusual items in the store where you'd never think of a tool/hardware store might keep. In summary, good place to get your non-heavy duty tool and a good place to browse. read more

Skip the store and buy online. I'm writing this review as I'm waiting in a line of 25 people to buy a replacement floor-jack. I had to buy a replacement ASAP since my old floor-jack cracked and lost all of it's hydraulic fluid. The jack was pinched under my car and I had to buy another jack to resolve this ordeal. Reason I say to buy online is this store has always been painful when paying for items at the cashier. The speed of the line is like highway 85 at rush hour, you might as well park your car and walk. I spent close to 50 minutes waiting in a line of 25 people. And to make it worse you always have that one token guy who is super duper upset that they won't take his 5 dollar coupon whom then refuses to move out of the line and causes a total scene. This always happens at this store without fail. Why do these stores always have 4 checking stations but yet only one person checking items? Why does the manager always run to the back to "check on something"? I don't get it! TL;DR -- If you absolutely need something double check the lines before you go in. read more

BEWARE...... The store credit card is a SCAM. I was told that when I opened my account I would receive 10% off my first purchase plus 6 months equal payments to avoid interest. I did not receive my 10%, when I inquired they said "no" I don't get both, I either get 10% or the equal payments. I told them that their staff and website is very misleading. Housed in the same strip mall complex as Barefoot Coffee, I come here while I'm on my caffeine high. I've been here twice. I love power tools. I love Harbor Freight. But caffeine high + Harbor Freight shopping = not good. Many of the power tools in my jewelry studio have come from HF. HF back in AZ would be closed on a Sunday and I'm not sure if it holds true for this one as well. Love that this place is new, clean and has friendly, as well as helpful, employees. read more

Harbor Freight Tools undoubtedly has the best prices. However, you do get what you pay for, though on a lot of things it doesn't matter. I tend to stay away from buying more complicated things here (eg electrical tools or safety equipment), but if you're looking for something simpler like a hand tool or a flashlight, the products are great for what 90% of people need and are really inexpensive. I haven't had good luck with anything electrical here - I've bought a small shop vacuum, a power strip, and a car cigarette lighter to USB adapter and they've all failed on me within a week. But on the other side of the spectrum, I've also bought hammers, screwdrivers, pry bars, cutting tools, tape, LED flashlights, rope, brackets, clamps, and wire that have all worked great for what I needed them for and I spend a fraction of the cost of Home Depot. Some of the guys that work at the Stevens Creek Store are really friendly, some aren't. It's a discount hardware store, so I don't really think it matters if they're the most bubbly, smiling people in the world. I've found that they're all helpful and knowledgeable so I think it's silly to complain that the employees don't kiss your ass the same way someone working in a boutique at Santana Row might. Store is always tidy and well-organized, selection is pretty good, things are always in stock. Overall a great store, just stay away from anything that has more than a few parts. read more
