I came in here looking to purchase a single 2.5mm hex wrench. However, the hex wrenches were only sold as sets so I ordered the one I needed on Amazon. However, I was surprise to see a rather large freezer near the check out area. Upon looking into it, low and behold, there were frozen pies in it. Trying to get a semblance of customer service here is practically non existent. I needed a key copied and was told to go to some counter and ring a bell for service. I waited 15 minutes before giving up and asking the cashiers who were standing around scrolling TikTok if they could make a key copy for me. Nope. Apparently they don't know how to make keys.. Clearly management here doesn't believe in cross training. How hard is it to train people to make key copies?! read more

I have to say I'm not really a hardware visiting type of person and normally if I do go for whatever reason it's Home Depot or OSH. I visited this ACE with a friend after she discovered they were liquidating their Hallmark inventory for 75% off to make way for food items. This ACE was so clean and organized and my friend and I were at the Hallmark area for at least an hour. It was surprisingly stocked enough and we had a lot of fun sifting through the quality Hallmark cards and merchandise for 75% off!!! Do I hear RETAIL THERAPY? I cannot recommend this store enough. Have bought so many things from here- plants, including all seasonal ones, small nails, garden tools, hardware(literally anything). You get appliances as well. Everything is organized well and they don't keep changing it - love that! It's a huge store but still so easy to navigate. The price is reasonable as well compared to Home Depot / Amazon etc. Absolutely the best customer experience, I have never been to any other Ace Hardware coz the staff is super nice and helpful. They go above and beyond to understand your problem and recommend the absolute perfect solution you'll need. The lot has so many parking spots, I don't think they ever run out of space. Came into the store and needed to buy 350 pounds of gravel for some landscaping. Mark and Felix helped load all of the gravel on a cart, got me checked out, and then volunteered to come out and load it all into my trunk. Super helpful, and what a difference compared to a big box store like Home Depot or Lowe's -- where you can't find staff and even if you could, they will not go the extra mile. read more

I will Stop and Never Shop at Ace Hardware again! I order something on line on Nov 19th to pickup and Nov 26th, I got an email to pickup. Today Dec 1st, I got an email it is cancelled. I call the store in mountain view and I tried 4 times, not able to reach the customer service. I call the 800 number they said the order is cancelled because there is no good to pickup but why you send me an email to pickup? The ace customer service seemed not able to help and told me its cancelled. The store told me they had nothing to do with the email and they cancel it today but did not even tell me why till I call. I like to know why you waste my time for so long for 15 days and more and cancel my order? Where is your customer service? Ace hardware has carry very low inventory of anything and with the service in this manner, I will not shop here any more. I value local business but this is just not acceptable. I could have gotten it from amazon 10 days ago. This kind of business model will only cause more unhappy customers and I am sure your business is not going anywhere. I can shop amazon and home depot but not ACE hardware giving I can get my good faster and cheaper. I don't think I am asking for a lot for a store! I do not know what happened to this store in the few months it has been since I last shopped there. Previously, I was approached by an employee almost immediately, asking if they could help me find something. They were friendly, very knowledgeable and walked me over to the item I was looking for. I am disabled and have mobility issues, and the employee made sure to walk slowly enough for me to keep up and was personable and easy to talk to. When I went into the store a few weeks ago, I was looking for a few specific things, one of which was the brush in the picture. I had purchased 2 of these items just a few months ago, misplaced one and wanted a replacement. I looked in the area where I last saw them, no luck. I had to hunt around to find an employee and when I asked the young man about the brush, he informed me that the store did not carry the item, in face never had the item I was looking for and with that, turned and walked away. It was incredibly disappointing that the quality of service had diminished so drastically and so quickly. I won't bother going back to this store. read more

Her Ladyship and I drove to this store, near us, and looked at some bbq's. Picked one we liked and went home and ordered the Weber Spirit E-325. My credit card company would give me extra miles if I ordered online. Asked for the free delivery and assembly, plus a propane tank, and hose with a regulator. Quickly received an email that we had to pickup the regulator, hose at the store. Then received an email, that the bbq and propane tank were ready for pickup at the store. OWTF!? I called the store, and informed them the bbq and propane tank were to be delivered and assembled, told them the delivery date, stated on the order. Put me hold, then a few minutes later said they would call me back in 20 minutes. Roger, store manager, called back and said he found no delivery orders. I had the delivery email confirmation in front of me. He finally admitted, that maybe they had not placed the delivery order, and assured me the issue would be corrected. We decided to go to the store, and talked to Edwardo, who checked our order and assured us the bbq and tank (filled) would be delivered, no problem. Yay!! Delivery day, I was outside waiting, as I received a call saying, delivery would be in 5 minutes. Yay again! Waited and waited some more, the received a call saying something had occurred, it would be 20 minutes before he would arrive. Okay ... small yay. He finally showed up, brought out the bbq, and wait a minute ...okay ,,, wait for it ...NO PROPANE TANK!!! He said there was nothing on his delivery papers, concerning a propane tank. I could tell he was embarrassed, as I guess I looked rather pissed!! Said he would get a full tank and deliver in the afternoon. I really wanted the tank, because otherwise, I wouldn't know if the bbq worked or not. And the way things had gone so far, well...anyway, delivered the tank in the afternoon, showed us how to use the bbq, and all was right with the world. Yay twice!! I don't know at what point I took leave of my senses, but I ordered a second tank online. A couple days later, I received an email, saying the tank had been delivered. Went outside and looked all over the north 40 and back, but found NO, you guessed it, TANK. I immediately called the store. Line went dead, called again, CLICK, line went dead. Called again, busy signal? On the email was a great big red square saying customer service. So I click on it. A page came up, notifying me, and not to my utter disbelief, NOT IN SERVICE?! I could feel the steam rising off my neck, and I called the store again, and lo and behold, a women answered. I explained my situation, and she put me on hold. Finally, a man came on, and once again I explained the issue. Put on hold, He asked for the order #, a minute passed and he asked me if I received the bbq. Yes, but that wasn't why I was calling. Where was the tank? Pause ...we don't have an order for a tank. Sorry, I lost it and yelled Bulls**t, it's on my credit card statement!!! At that point I was relieved of duty and the phone by her Ladyship, and I went outside to ponder humanism and its pitfalls. After several minutes, I came back into the manner, to find her Ladyship still on the phone. At which point, I went to our bar and poured myself a large Jamison's. She finally ended the call. Tank was delivered the following morning. It was empty of course, but I can bring it back to the store and exchange it for a full tank. Really? I was looking for a tiny screwdriver to fix my glasses, and all they had was a set for $22. A mile away, Dollar Tree had what I needed for $1.25. I understand that top-of-the-line customer service comes with a price, but I'm a senior on a fixed income, so sometimes it would be nice to find what I need at a price I can afford. read more

I've found that at this location I don't necessarily get the BEST customer service but today i was at my wits end trying to find a grill, and Marcus from the seasonal department (today at least) was the most helpful, and customer service oriented employee. He helped me take a piece off so it would fit in my car, helped me load it and helped me find the right tool to put the piece back on myself. He really went above and beyond and he is the only reason this is receiving 5 stars. He's also the only employee that smiled at me throughout my entire transaction. read more

I was so excited to see that ACE was giving a go at the old Orchard Supply Hardware site! Lets face it, the two main big box retailers have basically crowded out the little guys leaving you with few options. I hate the HD and Lowes experience and I'm willing to pay a bit more for the convenience, superior customer service and ease of getting in and out. I LOVE hardware stores. There is something satisfying walking the isles looking at this and that, discovering some small item you did not even know you needed. I feel the same with stationary stores and Hallmark for stores for the same reason. Those of you familiar with the old OSH will feel basically at home as they kept the same basic layout with a few tweeks. These stores are perfect for the DYI types. Its clean, has wide isles, clear lables and the like. Customer service is on point. Its friendly and they seem to accell at helping you figure out what you need "You know that thing at the end of the dohicky. You you that thing........." They ALWAYS know what the "Thing" is...... Also even though its a bit odd, there is a full on Hallmark Gold Crown store inside the ACE! Pretty Cool IMHO. Yes Ill take a 50 pound bag of cement and a Snoopy tree ornament LOL They kept the garden section and perhaps they kept part of OSH alive. They will help load bulk items like bags of compost, cement and the like. Thats a real dealbreaker for me. There is plenty of parking and again great customer service. No they will not be price competitive with the huge retailers, but the other advantages more than makes up for it. read more

Buyer beware when entering this establishment i just had the worst experience i have ever had bye Alison cashier. I went return a propane canister that I had got hour earlier. Alison proceeds to give the biggest lecture possible about how dare I bring the canister in the front door and tell me I had to drive my car all the way to the back receiving area in the rudest tone ever.They don't really tell you the rules and regulations when I bought it from them.Then she proceeded to grab the canister and throw it down on the ground as hard as she could and proceeded yell through he phone to the back people get it out of her check stand. I have been doing retail for the longest time and I must say you guys have lost my family business forever. read more

Customer service is non-existent here. I bought a grill and I went to the receiving area to pick it up. The warehouse guy without even calling me got the grill on a forklift and pulled up right next to my car telling me to help lift it into my own car. I wasn't sure if it would fit in my SUV and was going to ask for help, but by the time I turned around the guy was long gone. I got home and of course the box was crushed on a corner, and when I opened the box there was damage on one of the frames. I immediately called the store and an associate passed me from one person to another to try to get to a manager. Almost 30 minutes later after being put on hold the manager brushes me off and I was asked to leave a phone number so he would call me back. When taking down my number the associate wrote down the numbers wrong twice and I had to correct him, even though I was already speaking slowly and clearly. Of course I never got a call back so I dealt with the manufacturer of the grill instead. This would never happen at a big box store like Home Depot. They would have gladly replaced the grill on the spot. I tried supporting a local neighborhood store and I got screwed. read more

I have no problem with the employees of the store but the manager, Tall grey haired man, Is rude to the customers and staff. I heard him talk very rudely to a elderly lady who was asking for help, which he did not help her. His answer to her question was very short and walked off leaving her standing in the isle. I helped her find what she was looking for. This is NOT the customers job! He has the isles so full of items its very very hard for someone who is in a wheelchair to get though the store. If the store every had a fire, there would be no way to get out in a hurry because of all his clutter in the isles. The store is really good about social distancing practices, we've had to wait in line but it wasn't that long of a wait. Dear Friends & Family of Paint Mixer Louis,                I first met Louis in the Ace Paint department at the beginning of the pandemic 3 years ago. I probably saw him weekly for the first 2 years of on and off Lockdowns.               We always had a conversation on whatever current projects I was undertaking. Louis took a genuine interest in my paintings and admired my work as an Abstract Artist. His patience and precision of mixing and matching even a drop of color was incredible! He told me he liked to paint also and about his Artist friend from his younger days.                   Louis told me about a can of 'Mystery' odds and ends leftover paint that he had saved behind the counter. One day he planned to use it and paint something special. I left the Ace store that day and came back with 4 blank canvases for him to paint. On my next visit he was so delighted to show me a wonderful painting he did, that he beamed with Pride. This is the Louis I shall always remember.Friendly, Genuine, Happy and Proud. He was a wonderful man and later a friend. I had not been in Ace for a while and was floored to learn of his passing. I shall miss his presence and greeting of, "What color can I mix you today?" each time I go in there. Please accept My Most Heartfelt Condolences to His family and his co-workers at Ace. I was in need of some machine screws, and the front desk person forwarded me to the hardware department. Goes to voicemail. I call back, and a new front desk person answers and transfers me again. This time, I was on hold for 10 minutes. She picks my call back up and apologizes but continues to tell me to hold because the someone is researching if they have my item in inventory. Wait a second. How can you be looking up an item I haven't even given measurements for? She picks up about 3 minutes later and asks me to continue holding. I bring up what I just mentioned above, and she says "well, just continue to hold. They'll get the info from you soon" and places me back on hold. Several minutes later, she's telling me she needs to take a message because they're unloading a new shipment. I say "okay, I'm looking for machine screws" to which she replies "can you call back later? I don't know anything about the screw sizes." Waste of my damn time. After being led on this game of musical chairs involving being placed on hold, I got absolutely nowhere. I can't tell if the person is lazy, incompetent, or is trying to get fired. What I can tell us I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

Haven't been to the new ACE hardware since it arrived, but a broken bathroom aerator gave me a good opportunity to check it out. Luckily on the weekdays, it's not as crowded, but came in about an hour before closing and tried to find what I needed but ended up needing help with the sizing. I brought the piece I needed and went to the customer service area, waited for about five minutes, but nobody was at the counter. I walked around and found one of the employees that was on a ladder and asked for some assistance. He took me over and showed me how to tell the size through their aerator panel in the aisle. He then explained that there are different water pressures to look out for, and I was appreciative of that. Great service, big space, and easy to get what I needed - would definitely recommend coming here for your household needs. read more

Hands down, this is the biggest and bestest ACE Hardware in the Bay Area. I walked in, because I needed some items to revamp my late grandmother's wooden accordion drying rack. Found a super nice employee told him what I was up to and he showed me the aisles to gather the supplies I needed. Wish I looked up and down the store more, but had to keep moving towards my day at work. Pretty sure I'll be back sometime on my way to work. The location is kind of random, off the 101 freeway in Mountain View. One of the employees told me that this is a flagship store, lucky us! Large parking lot. read more

The other day, I got especially great help from Felix, who helped me get a special size board I needed for a bed repair. So as a former die-hard OSH customer, it was hard to see this close. For us in the Mt View/ Los Altos/ Palo Alto and even Menlo Park areas the Mountain View store was the go-to. When it closed it was like losing a good friend. Then I had to contend where do I go now? Some of the other places just did not have that OSH feel, even other Ace stores. So when I heard about this I was reluctant. However all that said, am I a big fan now..yes!! Similar in feel to the old store..much roomier and some added stuff that OSH did not have. I am really impressed and I think this store will be the bomb for the area. So happy that we have a hardware store back in town, it is like gaining your old friend back..but new and improved! :) read more

The employees working in the store are helpful. I have no issue with them at all. My issue is that the Ace inventory app is basically useless. Specifically, they will show something in inventory in a specific store and allow you to pay for it online for same day pickup. In reality, I've tried ordering online several times over a 3 week period ( a battery for a Stihl chainsaw) and had the same experience each time. I place my order, get an email confirmation and then about 2 hours later receive a second email (never a text, even though you have to give them your phone number) saying the order is cancelled. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time. I thought the second time could be a fluke. But three strikes and you are what your record says you are - incapable. No issue with the employees at any of the Ace stores. I've always found them to be great. It's their website that's cringy. The internet figured out how to deal with real time online inventory management 10+ years ago. Ace needs to spin their tech stack forward by 10 years and join us in 2023. Until they do, they should stop allowing people to pay for things in stores when they are in fact not in inventory. I'm rooting for Ace to do better. read more
