Bruce Bauer's SVG cedar boards made a beautiful fence.

They have a lot of lumber on-site for quick pick-up or delivery. They had the best prices for SVG cedar boards we used to build a fence with, and are happy with the quality of the completed fence. The staff are very helpful in finding the right hardware, for example they helped me figure out the customization options for Emtek door hardware (there are many combinations of style, function & finish) and ordered the right ones with very quick (less than 1 week) turnaround. They have a great showroom with patio doors, windows, door hardware, fence materials, etc - this is a place where you can look at samples, ask questions, and be confident in what you are buying.

Misleadingly pointing out some advantages of Marvin windows which are shared with other brands (cardinal glass)

They would not quote me some Marvin windows when I had all but decided on buying some in my extensive research of window brands and trade offs. I was introduced to this dealer through Marvin's website and things started off cordially, but turned south after I revealed that I had been comparing multiple windows lines in an attempt to find the one that best matched my selection criteria (in no particular order: thermal efficiency, low maintenance, quality). The salesman gave me his take of the lines I had researched, which I found to be somewhat misleading (see attached). Most egregious is pointing out Marvin as being "better" because they use cardinal glass, since all three companies use cardinal glass. In addition, all three companies use window components made by Truth Hardware. He did not appear happy when I called him out on this, and after some back and forth, told me that it wouldn't be fair for him to give me a quote because it would be a dramatic price difference (?!). I replied that I did care about quality and did not understand his hesitation, at which point he said he was happy to help and asked me to provide availability. After I did so, there was complete radio silence... I guess they just don't care and ghost their potential customers. Ultimately, I did end up buying Marvin windows, but from Justin at Argonaut Windows, who was way more transparent about each product lines' trade offs and was happy to answer questions and quote as needed. Some other thoughts: 1) these brands do vary significantly but they also have multiple lines that are not created equal and are priced accordingly. Fit and finish also depends heavily on line (Marvin essential and elevate will not be better than Kolbe Vistaluxe for instance) 2) They are literally a Jeldwen distributor (La Cantina and IWP Aurora) and they're trashing their own product lines, which seems like a bad way of doing business and something their suppliers would not appreciate, rather than just being straightforward about things being nuanced rather than easily summed up.

Armando, The Legend…read more This review is not for Home Depot; it is for Armando, expert employee in the Plumbing Department of Home Depot in East Palo Alto: There is a humble and extremely knowledgeable man in the Plumbing Department of Home Depot East Palo Alto by the name of Armando. I've nicknamed him "Armando, The Legend." When I visited, he worked the evening shift up to closing time. Home Depot is getting a great deal by having him on staff; he's worth way more than whatever Home Depot is paying him. I've interacted with Armando a few times. Twice coming in before closing, I asked Armando how to get one pipe end to connect to another. Under these time-pressed circumstances, he asked me to wait a couple minutes for him to think before me and then get the pieces. Indeed, after just a couple minutes, he came back with four pieces - from the plethora of connectors/pieces on the shelves, one connecting to another. He said this should work. Indeed it did. I was amazed that he looked at my pictures and physical parts, and in his mind, determined exactly what pieces were needed, knew where they were in the aisle out of so many parts, and produced them perfectly. Also amazing, the next day, I came back with a request to modify the previous day's request, to add a connector within yesterday's contraption. I said, "I don't know if this is possible but this is what I am imagining..." Without skipping a beat, Armando inspiringly said with enthusiastic energy and authority, "Anything is possible. It's just a matter of figuring it out." Wow. It really makes you feel good to come in under stress and to have someone this competent rightfully put you completely at ease. He asked me to give him 30 seconds, and under that, he came back again with what turned out to be exactly what I imagined. He is an expert at his craft, too good to be working for Home Depot really. He is knowledgeable, fast, and helps with joy. I was so impressed, I've told my colleagues and family about him.

I asked an employee for advice in the Tools section. He pointed me to another tool that was not what I was looking for, and when I asked further questions he brushed me off completely. It felt like he only wanted to go back to being with his colleagues. I looked up and I came back to him with a picture of the tool, and was told that it did not exist (even though I was literally showing him a photo of it). It does seem like Home Depot does not sell this particular tool. However, his response was uncalled for. Was it because it was close to lunch break? Was it because I was a woman? I had also planned to ask about a power drill, but I will not be visiting this store anymore.

Lowe's associates said that wasn't necessary and to just buy a unit and schedule installation. That will come back to bite me later. After ordering, for almost two weeks there was little communication on the orders status or any progress. I had to call multiple times to confirm appointment date, and the technicians then missed twice (without any notice) before finally coming out. On the day of the install, the technician did not do any assessment and installed the opener. He even said there was an additional part needed, costing an extra $70. When all was said and done, the technician showed me that the opener would not work on my particular door and that I either needed a different unit or a different door. This could have been avoided if we had a proper assessment in the beginning. Furthermore, the technician said it was not his responsibility to uninstall the unit. So now I have to schedule a follow up appointment just to uninstall the unit, likely costing me more money. Do yourself a favor and go through a different company. This has been too much of a headache, cost me money that I likely won't get back, and I don't even have a working garage door.
