This location needs a lot of work. The general criticism is that the store doesn't appear to have enough floor employees. You always have to "hunt down" someone to help you, as opposed to the retail model of an employee coming up to you asking if you need help with anything. The other comment would be that the signs indicating what is stocked on each aisle is only posed on one side. For example the aisles for paint, cleaning supplies, and household goods aren't listed, but the other side of the store for electrical and otherwise is noted so you know where to look for your purchases. The specific comment I want to make is regarding my purchase on 05/12 where I checked out with (Diane L). She asked for my phone number (which I provided). She responded with "NO" and continued with the transaction. She didn't offer to try again or ask for a different number even though I have a membership at this location. When the transaction concluded she tossed the receipt on the counter and moved to the next customer. I would understand if she was busy or at the end of a long work day, but there was only one customer after me. She clearly doesn't enjoy her job or care about customer service. I have since returned my transaction and decided to buy elsewhere. I primarily shop here because of the convenience of proximity, but the service isn't any better then a large chain like Home Depot or Lowes. read more

Very friendly service clerks and super helpful. In comparison with the Home Depot where I usually get lost without knowing which isle to go to find my stuff or rarely finding somebody who is super knowledgeable, Ace Hardware is small and compact with knowledgeable staff who helps us solve the problems! One guy named Felix is especially helpful to us. We need to find a tiny screw for an old equipment and Felix looked through every drawer in the store to locate just the perfect match. The second time we came, we found Felix and described our problem. He listened carefully and offered a couple solutions. We picked his last suggestion and it indeed solved our issue just as he described! So genius! We felt we can trust the store to help us with the tiniest problems on hand!! read more

I was interested in the Big Green Egg. Calling here I spoke to Krischel. She knew what I was talking about and checked her inventory for me to final on a small one with a base. She told me I could come into the store, or order it on line. I couldn't figure how to do it on line so I came into the store, she was the greeter at the door when I asked the customer service for her. She was very polite and professional, and got a sale. Great Great service , Mr Tim wieland , hope I spelled it right Thanks to the above and beyond service this gentleman provided me , I ended up with something I needed but was not exactly sure what it was called . Cif game in 31 degree weather ,my wife wanted more than just warm coat and hand warmers so we looked for something online and other stores I decided to try this location . As we looked we found some items but not what I wanted as something portable. Mr Tim took me over to his desk and we looked up more items . He took me through the store looking here and there I did not find what I wanted even though they were some good items . As I was gonna leave Mr Tim pulled me over said I think we got what you need , took to where the items were and presented the portable heater easy to carry and great reviews . I called to get key cut for 2011 Honda CRV the man responsible for key cutting said we can not cut a key for your car because is liability for us you have to buy it from us i asked how much is the key he said $149.00 i was shocked i told him i purchase the key for $17.00 he said no way i told him go check it out at Amazon you see it, so he rejected to cut my key anyway. i called different Ace store (Los Gatos Ace store) right away the guy said cost $25.00 to cut your key and he cut my key . I brought in my dining room table leg with a sheared off lag bolt. It broke during a recent move. I had tried to use my vice grips at gome but just tore off threads. I went to the helpful hub and two gentlemen took the time to assess the problem, connect with me, and come up with a solution...a nice sturdy pipe wrench. The bolt was removed quickly and I was able to get a replacement along with some other needed items. Thanks to Ace, I got my dining room table back in order. read more

Terrible check out line especially on weekends. No main line that separated into available checkers, just random lines at each register, some move others don't mainly due to membership/phone number stuff. They need to install self check terminals. It's covid safe and faster. The store itself has good inventory, well stocked but the check out nightmare takes off 4 stars. read more

If you are taking COVID-19 seriously then don't come here. I very recently visited the store for emergency plumbing supplies and was dismayed to see that almost all employees were not wearing masks or face coverings despite the latest county order. I place an order online for pick up in store, and what was important to me was that the item was available today since I needed it for the next day. When I call the store to let them know I still hadn't received my order confirmation email nor the email saying it was ready, she very rudely said "well, we have more than 700 orders and we're behind so you won't get the email until maybe tomorrow ". I still very kindly stated that I purchased the item because it said you could pick it up the same day. At the end of the day, I work retail and I understand wait times and everything. It was her attitude telling me it is what it is , instead of saying , I apologize we're backed up, we'll have it ready by tomorrow. I bought an electric palm sander Monday. Tried it out and it worked fine. Thursday I was ready to start my project and after a few seconds it was kaput. I called to the store and asked if there was an in store warranty policy. I was told I would need to go through the manufacturer. As, I wanted to get the project done, I went down to the store to buy a new one. When I got there, I told my story to the person at the tools desk. He asked a supervisor what they could do. The supervisor asked his boss and they ended up exchanging a new one for the non functioning unit. I really appreciate this kind of customer service. I was very happy to see Ace Hardware re-open in the former Orchard Supply Hardware store in Mountain View. The store is beautiful! Great selection in nursery & huge BBQ area including accessories. ACE corporate was eyeing this location as soon as the OSH there started closing. They gutted the old OSH store and replaced everything with the new ACE store. The selection is bigger than before. They have a full selection of fasteners and specialty fasteners and hard-to-find hobbyist pieces just like OSH, work attire, and tools from brands that otherwise distribute to Home Depot, or Lowe's, but not both. This is a corporate ACE mega-store, and they cannot have a lot of these because they don't want to compete with their own small franchises. Right now this is likely THE best, and at least one of the very best, hardware stores anywhere in and around the Bay Area. read more

I used to go to Orchard supply all the time so I was really sad for them to close. I recently realized that this ACE hardware had opened in the space and they did keep some of the super knowledgeable Orchard employees. I needed paint so decided to give them a try. Was happy to see they still have the large paint mixing department in the store - Luisa is EXCELLENT! She is a true asset to this store. She matched the wall sample of our existing paint perfectly. She went above and beyond to get me exactly the paint and primer I needed. I had originally chosen the wrong primer for my job and it was easy to exchange for the right one and the manager was nice and helpful with that transaction. Paola and Alex were also great on the registers - after a few trips got exactly what I needed and my project came out great! read more

David gave me an excellent suggestion on a drain opener and the gentleman manning the customer service desk gave me a good recommendation on a household glue; furthermore, they all wore masks and maintained good social distancing. Had an order pick up and waited at customer service counter. Young man took down my information and then left. Another cashier told me to wait in line at checkout because no one was at the customer service desk. I waited 20 minutes in line and when I'm at the front of the line she takes down my information and leaves to help a Caucasian couple who just entered and waited at the customer service counter for less than 2 minutes and immediately started helping them. Terrible terrible service. I'll never come here to shop again. Would rather go out of my way to shop at Home Depot than shop at this ace hardware franchise. read more

I type this in the parking lot because one of the employees needs to be sited for his action. About 9:30 I walked in and in the drill hole think isle 23 section one employee was in the isle. Like I always do if I can't find what I'm looking for I'll ask for help and when I did he lets out this "yes" as if he's under a sink I'm the middle of a job, clearly can see and hear he doesn't want to help. I ask for a size I'm looking for on a diamond saw and he then laughs and tells me the size is wrong and that he expects me to give him the already converted size(from in to mm). I explain to him isn't that the reason why I'm asking for help and he laughs exaggeratedly to the computer to look it up. At this point I don't want his help anymore and just wing it and get what I think works. From what I heard in the other isle is that another customer had the same thing happen and just left. Claiming he "always has attitude". Don't know his name but he's a shorter older man with short hair and walks with a lil limp of some sort. If you need help Steer away from him. read more

Finally a suitable replacement for Orchard Supply! The store is largely unchanged, clean, and friendly.

It's been rebranded from the old Orchard but seriously very little has been moved around within the store and for the amount of square feet, it's remarkable how little useful stuff they have. The manager is probably absent and certainly doesn't have a clear idea of who the target clientele should be. Cheap greeting cards and toys are now in the front where long ago there were tools. A large part of the main area is taken over with patio chic. However if you want some 2x2s or trim to finish up a project.... forget about it. Need a long powerstrip? Nope. But lots of cheap drugstore chineseum stuff up front. Bubblegum pop is played way too loud over the speakers. As a consequence the place is vacant while other hardware and home improvement stores are buzzing. It looks like someone is trying to milk the property for a few more bucks before it goes under for good. Think Fry's, or Sears. These are bad signs. I give it 6 months. Sorry. I used to love OSH before it started its long decline. read more
