They said yes so I bought a $65 set and then AFTER they said it would be an extra $20 to key it to my key. So I wasted 20 minutes here and took my business to Home Depot. read more

I've yet to have a bad experience at this Ace Hardware, but I've also only been here twice. The first time, I dropped in to look at their seed selection. If I remember correctly, they had a good amount of the standard stuff! The second time I went there, I specifically went with the mission to buy a frozen pie to bake for a party. The employees were welcoming and pointed me to the freezer. The cashier even gave me the good tip to let the pie rest for at least an hour before serving. Ace is owned by independent business owners, which I really appreciate and love supporting. In that sense, it is a small business, just with multiple owners. What has been a great shopping experience can't be all the time. We came in to buy some shelving materials and my husband dealt with Spencer who had zero interest in actually being of ant help. We asked to have a piece of wood we were buying cut down, he gave every excuse in the world not to cut the wood. We left and went to Home Depot - my least favorite store to shop at. Westgate Ace Hardware has been my go-to place ever since it first opened in my neighborhood, and I'm so glad they did! Everyone who works there is friendly and greets me like a "regular" when I walk in (which I guess I am, since I rarely go anywhere else). Everyone is great, but Victor is a standout!. He takes all my little household projects seriously and unfailingly finds a solution or a product that meets my needs, leaving me happy and never disappointed. He always makes me feel special when I go in; he's my go-to guy in my go-to place. Before this store opened, I was glad when an Ace store opened on Bascom, but every experience there left me disappointed and angry. The customer service was terrible if present at all. SO unhelpful. 10.9.2025 : It's a clean, well organized store, the staff are extremely friendly, and fairly knowledgeable. However, it feels less like a boutique store of quality hardware, and more like a store that kind of has the 2nd tier stuff. I went looking for SPAX screws, and there were none, at all... Nor did they have GRK. So, if you're looking for mid-tier screws, it's fine, but not really the top of the line good stuff. I did a little PEX work at home, and again, while they had blue monster tape, they didn't have the paste, nor the "relatively not-so-new" sharkbite hose bib that accepts external pex inlet pipes (pex on wall, not in wall). So, I'm just tempted to go straight to one of the big box stores for major projects (but to be honest, even those have huge gaps; for my recent project of installing a garage wash bay I needed to visit multiple stores at multiple locations, multiple times, and not once did any associate tell me about SPAX... It was only after the legacy lag bolts snapped in the wall, despite pre drilling and careful hand ratcheting, that I did a week of online research and found that SPAX is what EVERYONE SHOULD BE USING!!!). Anyway, some of the issues I have with ACE are not ACE specific, but USA in general; Not enough care for quality, not enough pride in one's work, no incentive to keep up on what the best options are, and let the customer know. So, while the staff have always been extremely friendly, and I like them a lot, when it comes to hardware, I just feel I'm FAR better off doing my own research, and then coming in with a specific request... read more

Ricardo was such a saint helping my dad and I pick out the perfect bird bath, helping my dad pick a great blower, and really took his time with us and all of our questions. It could not have been a more positive experience. The items in this store are all very organized and there's a lot of them, and the store is clean. Worst. Ace. Ever. I love Ace-- Saratoga Sunnyvale, both in Los Gatos... used to go to one in Hayward! I will AVOID this location, as the MANAGER treated me as a CRIMINAL for returning a broken christmas tree. He questioned loudly when I arrived, "Weird! Never seen one of these come back!" ????An artificial tree??? They're notorious for issues. The manager then had his employee assemble the tree, despite this being no where in the policy... as he just couldn't believe a set of lights would be out. He forced me to go into the back of the warehouse (wtf??? illegal?? dangerous??) to show him where the tree was broken as he couldn't find it himself. I pointed it out, went to go finish the return, and then he conducts his employee to go set up and test the second tree i'm returning! It's the same tree -- both like $300 -- both with wiring issues. And that's when I got upset--He didn't believe me; he made me feel unsafe; he refused my second return of the faulty tree I bought in Los Gatos, claiming that different locations carry different items (same item, try again buddy) only AFTER I questioned why he needed to test that one... apparently the return policy changes on a whim with this guy. Further, he stood there and tried to tell me, "Well, you must be one in a thousand customers that come in who know how LED work then aren't you?" (super condescending). Sir, we are in a hardware store, pretty sure you don't understand (or care about) your customers knowledge or competence. I drove to Los Gatos Ace on LG Blvd, and they treated me so nice. Imagine that! I was able to return something in the return window without being made out to be the christmas tree swindler. Screw this Ace. Support the other stores. read more

This Ace hardware is so awesome! Everyone that works their is super friendly. They greet you right when you walk in and always check in if you need any help. I've visited for several projects and I'm always leaving with everything I need and a smile on my face! They copy keys and hand cut them. The guy was super fast and when I used the key it worked so much smoother then the keys that I have copied at machines. I highly recommend this place. I definitely will be back and I'm happy they're In the neighborhood! Side note: This Ace is so much nicer then the Home Depot on De Anza where theirs always sketchy people in the parking lot on drugs or drunk. OMG - it is like the old OSH days when I can actually get assistance from knowledgable staff. I went in with a need for specific washer for sink faucet. The team quickly identified the right washer... The interesting and challenging thing about this washer is the purchased washer looks different on one side - flat whereas the original had a ring ... they told me the right is from compression - I WOULD NEVER HAVE GUESSED THAT. In fact when a junior associate told me that was the right washer I declined it because one side did not match. Only when a more senior expert confirmed it did I accept it was perhaps the right washer. Thanks to the excellent staff I was able to buy it with confidence - it fit perfectly and worked perfectly. ACE used to be known for knowledgeable associates and friendly service. Because we didn't have one near by, I had started going to Home Depot. After they opened this one, I thought let me try them. I can say for sure, after a few visits, ACE does not stand for the same values anymore. My bad experience this time, after series of those, was with a long time ACE associate Rich. The scary part is the "long time" part. Rude is an understatement but maybe the politest thing I can say. Don't have simple questions for him. They are "stupid." Even if you have a good reason to be there, don't waste his time...But wait, a puppy walked in, let me go pet that one. Miserable experience to say the least. I like the proximity but really, ACE is not the highest card on the deck anymore.... At least not while Rich is playing. read more

Lack of helpful staff who clearly see collecting a paycheck as the goal of showing up to work and hanging out without providing customer service, which is severely lacking. Product knowledge is missing. Employees with negative attitudes complaining about their shift clearly didn't want to take time to help customers. I overheard more than I needed to after giving feedback to the "manager" who then talked crap about it within seconds of me leaving, as I was outside letting my dogs do their business in the bushes. On my first trip, I brought in a salton hot tray for which I needed an electrical cord. The store did not carry it; but the salesperson offered to obtain one from another store. I requested an order of three cords. My second trip was on the appointed day of delivery to find out only one cord was available; but I purchased it, arriving home to find out it did not fit the hot tray. Today I made the third trip; the manager said they do nto carry the correct cord; but they woulr return my money. So after 3 trips, I do not have the cord nor an apology for miscommunication. One Star for the Ace Hardware in West San Jose -Ace definite fit the Biden "Shrinkflation" term as I followed an Ace ad online for a Ronson Butane Refill listed at $4.99 for 290ml and I returned to this West San Jose store to informed them that I was overcharged for the same Ronson Butane but with only 169 ml. I had the Ace online ad that clearly shows the Ronson Butane can shown as $4,99 with 290ml in volume. I asked if I could get another 169ml of the same for the difference I paid yesterday and not go for a refund, which I could have done. The store manager Bryan Matsumoto said "No!," Paying the same amount but get less than the advertised pirce fits "Shrinkflation," as Biden said in his latest State of the Union address. May be the Federal Trade Commision needed to look into this as this practice makes Biden Administration looks poorly. Don't shop at this Ace branch! read more
