I made a special trip to this place, as it had been recommended to me; and because my daughter, who was visiting on college break, is a vegan. The website looked great and we made plans to visit it today. Just to make sure of their hours, I checked again on their Facebook page, which indicated that they were open. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we learned that they were closed--the sign on the door read that they were on vacation until mid next week. We were disappointed and I was unhappy because I had made an effort to ensure that they were open. I sent a message to the company FB page, and the response to me was that they had left a message on their phone, and had also indicated their vacation closure on instagram and FB. Well, I don't use Instagram, I didn't call (because both their Facebook page and website said they were open), but I did send them a screenshot of their FB page showing that they were open. Again, she responded that the vacation closing was indicated somewhere on their FB page, but she didn't know how to change the hours on her main listing, and she added an "LOL". Well, I didn't really feel the "lol" after making the trip and loading up the parking meter. I also really didn't feel the "lol" after she decided to argue with me about notifying customers (I will say again, not on their website, nor in the hours area of their listing in FB). The fact that the response I received was indignant and argumentative is what prompted me to make this review. If the response had been something like, "sorry, you are right, it isn't on our website, but we hope you come visit us in the future" I would have been fine. I make this post because what happened today is indicative of poor customer service. Arguing with a customer who wanted to frequent your business (after an error on your company's behalf) is just not good business. It is a shame because I think the city needs more vegan options and we were hopeful for this place. After our communications, I doubt that we will try again. read more

I had the pleasure of stopping by Happy Chicks Bakery on the way down to Cincinnati this morning and could not be more pleased. I tried a chocolate pastry, a cinnamon roll, and bought 4 different cupcakes. As a person who is very dairy intolerant, this place was MY gourmet cupcake shop. And everything was perfect. One of my favorite bakeries in the Tri-State and with their weirdly awesome flavor options, I will continue to buy our cakes, cookies (ohhhh the lavender cookies!!), cupcakes and more. Lots of gluten free options and satisfies the sweet tooth of any interested palate. They do traditional, don't get me wrong, but they aren't limited by it and that makes them earn my praise. Had brunch and cake here with group of 5. We only saw 3 other customers while there. Cake was delivered to table before dishes were cleared and cake plates had already been added to our small table. Complimentary water in fridge, but when I went to get new bottle for the table, staff came to my table and suspiciously eyed my San Pelligrino. I had paid for 2 cans at $1.50 per can and purchased quiche. Quiche had a good texture. Someone at our table requested knife to cut cake and was told to use the butter knife on the table. I had to return to the counter and request a serrated knife to cut the 3 inch cake. Cake was coconut curry which sort of tasted like pumpkin spice. We found Happy Chicks at Park & Vine one Sunday morning for brunch. We had an amazing vegan coffee cake that would make you swear it wasn't vegan! I was so excited to find a gluten free bakery for a friends shower. I ordered cupcakes and chunky monkey cookies. The girl I ordered from was very polite and helped answer all my questions. So customer service was not an issue at all. The price was outrageous for 1 dozen cupcakes and 1 dozen cookies, I paid over $60. Cupcakes were not very good and the cake was splitting in parts like it was over cooked. Cookies were not a hit, I was embarrassed because no one enjoyed them. I have purchased from Happy Chicks three times and been beyond thrilled every time. The first time was at Madeira Farmer's Market where I got some cookies and a cupcake. Delicious! So when Thanksgiving rolled around, I called up Happy Chicks for my pies. I got a spiced apple and a sweet potato persimmon. Now, I only got pie because people expect it, not because I like to eat them. But these pies were AH-MAZING. The crusts were the perfect balance of moist and crispy, the fillings were perfectly spiced, and the balance between crust and filling was spot on. To top it off, they were really pretty (and of course I didn't take pictures!). Happy Chicks even delivered my pies at no extra charge the day before Thanksgiving despite my offers to take it a day or two earlier to ease their delivery schedule. Today I went in to their new shop (congrats!) expecting the usual tastiness, and I was not disappointed. I was helped by one of the owners, who was wonderfully patient while I made my choices, and seemed genuinely thrilled to be helping me. I got quiche, a pesto croissant, and two cupcakes. Vegan quiche is no small feat, by Happy Chicks nails it! The crust is flaky but holds together, and is perfectly buttery. The filling is creamy, egg-y and seasoned just right. Next time I'll be smart and by a whole one rather than just a slice! The croissant was as good as (or better than) any non-vegan croissant I've had, with buttery delicious layers and a great pesto filling. The cupcakes are waiting patiently for me to get home :) Forget the vegan part, although it's a plus! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I work down the street and when I get a craving for sweets I tell my partner "be right back, gotta go get some Happy Chicks!" I usually get two or three items at a time because I can't get just one thing. I usually eat one of the things on the walk back to work because I can't wait to scarf it down! They have vegan croissants, too, which is one thing I definitely miss from my vegetarian days ;) I recently learned that they also have coffee, and I am addicted to that, so basically this place is dangerous for me! I had two interactions with Happy Chicks. I question the truth of both words in the name. There was no happiness in either interaction. First was a phone call with no real help. I then drove to the bakery, which is hard to find with poor parking options. I wanted to order a birthday cake for my recent turned vegan 18 year old daughter. The staff was not pleasant. I wanted to order a cake with two different colored icing on top, so that I could cover myself in case she didn't like one of the flavors. They could not do it, as it was too complicated. I normally snub baked doughnuts (which I typically consider mere muffins in a ring shape), but these were very, unexpectedly good: crispy, flaky, rich with a fantastic glaze covering them. The Chocolate Orange was just okay; the texture a bit dense with minimal icing that was just okay as well. Upon biting into the Mojito cupcake, the flavor was an immediate and powerful flavor of Mylanta. Not good at all. Couldn't tell you about the texture of the cake since I was done at the first bite. The place is cute and I'd go back to try lunch. I've had a LOT of cupcakes and tasting around for these is more than a bit of a hobby. In my opinion, you'll want to pass on these. read more
