I'm slowly exploring Northside and all the vegan spots it has to offer. Today, I satisfied a cupcake craving with Happy Chicks Bakery. They had a surprisingly large shop; more like a small restaurant than just a bakery. I was pleasantly surprised! Their decor is my style. Lots of plants and bright, mix-matched furniture. There's a big window that lets in natural light and gives you a good street view. I walked past the lunch menu (yes, they do offer lunch) and went straight to the cupcakes on display. I decided upon the lemon rose cupcake, and green tea to drink. The cupcake itself was delicate and perfectly warm. The only complaint I have is how expensive my tiny cupcake was. I think it was $3.50....which for the size seems pricey. But it's a local business, so I say support them. Good service, good decor, and great cupcakes. I'm kinda mixed about this place. So I from Philadelphia and I booked a trip to Cincy with my fiancé to see a Phils game. We flew in on my birthday and my fiance wanted to surprise me with a cake. We drove to this bakery and were pleasantly greated. We walked in and it smelled good. 2 people patrons ahead of us ordered The Breakfast, that's what it's called, The Breakfast. Our turn, I was hungry, we just got in at 73am and had to pick the cake up, it's now 10a. We ordered the The Breakfast, This was tasty, the biscuit done right, the cheese off-setting the saltiness of the egg frittata was great. We couldn't check-in to our room until 1PM and the employee, very nice, said they would hold onto the cake until later. great ! We came back picked it up. Back at the hotel; tasting the cake. My fiance didn't tell me and she what the flavor was, she was excited because she saw this place had almost 5 stars with a lot of reviews, she was excited to try. I had some bites and I couldn't tell what it was, just taste like chocolate. She was dissapointed as she took some bites and said "what the heck" "this is supposed to be stout". Needless to say this didn't taste like one of fancy flavors and at that for $30 for a 6inch cake, this was disappointing. The icing was good to me, not too sweet or heavy. Absolutely fantastic selection of a wide range of dietary needs. They have gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and within those, the variety is fantastic. Follow them on social media, too. They post special items they're making from time to time. I've had the Snowball cupcake twice now. I'm hooked. It is gluten free, not overly sweet, and a great texture. Their Nut Butter and Jelly Sandwich was amazing, but a little pricey for the size. It was a gluten free biscuit, and I had almond butter and jam with figs. Absolutely delicious. What a cute bakery/cafe in the heart of Northside! I had passed it many times & decided to take a peep (pun intended)! When you walk in you're greeted with charming decor & ambiance! There's plenty of seating that's different and eclectic. I decided to sit on the row of bar stools against the window. Great view of the neighborhood. I decided to get a drunken pumpkin donut and it was a great choice! I typically don't spend $2.50 on one donut but YOLO, right?!? The donut was light and fluffy and honestly was more reminiscent of a croissant than a donut but it was delicious! The pumpkin flavor was in the icing and was subtle, which I appreciated as I'm not a huge pumpkin fan. The service was great. The woman waiting on me was patient as I made my selection and they even said goodbye when I left. Looks like they serve lunch items as well and it feels more like a cafe than a bakery. We stopped in to pick up a weekend's worth of goodies, mostly cupcakes with a small tart and some empanadas thrown into the mix. The woman that helped us was super nice, and even wrote down on the box all the different types of cupcakes we had picked out so we would know what we were eating later. I've reviewed this before but this was the first time I've feel like I've gotten the full experience of this bakery. As I touched on in the first review they have a small menu of sandwiches and salads in addition to their delicious pastries. I went with the PB And J which was peanut butter and strawberry jam (there were a few other jam options but strawberry was my pick) on a croissant. The croissant was so buttery and just utterly perfect. The peanut butter and jelly was fine but that croissant was legendary. My wife tried out their fried green tomato sandwich and enjoyed that as well. The sandwiches were delicious but not all that filling so you're better off making them like a snack instead of a full meal. However their signature is the delicious pastries they have. My favourite was the orange grapefruit basil doughnut. A great punch of citrus and then the delicious sweetness of a well made doughnut. Also worth mentioning are their awesome cupcakes and fantastic caramel brownies. So much sugary goodness here. A bit pricey but you're paying for real ingredients here so I can easily forgive that. read more

First time here! Kind of discovered this place through a simple yelp search for gluten-free bakerys. They had two options for gluten free cupcakes today, chocolate lavender and lemon rose. I'm not a fan of chocolate cake so I opted for lemon rose and the flavor did not disappoint! It was rather small for the price ($5) and a lot of the cake stuck to the paper cup. They store the gluten free stuff in a separate area. It came out cold so they probably store it in a fridge...this could be for several reasons. They do offer to heat it up. I selected this bakery because of the great reviews. I purchased a 6 inch gf lemon cake with vanilla icing and a 9 in gf vanilla cake with grapefruit icing. The combinations sounded amazing and the cakes were very pretty. I served them to my family in celebration of birthdays that same evening and they were awful. The icing had no flavor. All you got was lard and sugar texture. The cake was heavy and all it tasted like was flour. My wife is vegan, and after looking at a few places online, I settled on Happy Chicks Bakery. I sent my wife the list of cakes to choose from, and since I don't have enough money to get her all of them, she settled on rhubarb margarita. They delivered it to my workplace and when I opened the box to check it out... WOW! It smelled SO good that I wished it had been my birthday instead. So, the cake looked beautiful and smelled amazing, but how did it taste? I brought it home and my wife jumped off the couch to look at it. I opened the box for her and she said, "Oh, DAMN!" and immediately made me cut a slice for her since I wouldn't let her just smash her face into it. The inside decor is meant to be eclectic, but I felt it came across more as "unfinished" as if they had just opened several weeks before and have had temporary furnishings and decorations in the meantime. Most of the food is fairly priced; an occasional item seems to be priced too high. Then again, we know that fine ingredients cost more. The cupcake flavors are unique and even my non-vegan family members really enjoy them. So far I have tried "Yellow Dragon," "Chocolate Caramel Stout," "Strawberry Lime," and "Cinnamon Almond." They were all great. The "cake" part is never dry and there is an excellent icing-to- cake ratio. As many people have already mentioned, their savory food is great as well.
