I can't believe I have lived so close for so long and not been to NCH Bakery until this week! The bakery might be small, but it is stuffed to the brim with the most gorgeous pastries, cakes, pies, etc. They have HUGE cookies and pastries. They offer both baked and take-and-bake pies. I grabbed a take-and-bake peach pie. They provided me with a little instruction sheet. The staff was so warm and welcoming. The vibe inside is warm and happy! I can't wait to stop in again for more sweet treats. read more

We ordered a cake for our son's birthday party. To their credit, it was a beautiful cake, put together great. The problem? The theme of our son's birthday was astronauts and space. The cake had star decorations. I was slicing the cake in the kitchen getting ready to serve it to our guests and their children. My wife was taking pictures of our son and they weren't ready to serve yet. I decide to eat a slice. My wife started handing out the cake and ice-cream to the guests and at that moment I felt a jab on my tongue. I quickly spit out the bite and discovered a 1/2" piece of METAL WIRE. I immediately told everyone to not eat the cake. I told the guests that I just found metal wire in my mouth. We immediately looked through the cake and discovered that the star decorations on the cake had metal in them. I have NEVER had a cake that had INEDIBLE decorations on them. & If you are going to put inedible decorations on a cake... YOU NEED TO LET CUSTOMERS KNOW. NO ONE at the bakery told my wife this. NO WHERE on the box or receipt is there any mention of inedible decorations. SLAP a giant red- caution sticker on the inside of the box or outside of the box saying "By the way, your cake contains decorations that ARE INEDIBLE." Any reasonable person would assume the stars would be edible. I am beyond livid as one of our guests (adults and/or children) could have been seriously hurt. Luckily for the owners no one swallowed the metal pieces and were injured by the decorations as they would have a lawsuit served at the first opportunity. Was the cake good? Sure. Was the nonchalant attitude of "the designer" surprising when informed? Very. Never again. read more

I love this bakery. Been buying their stuff for years. Love the coffee cakes especially. At Christmas, I buy excellent fruitcakes from them. Their breads and burger buns are really nice. A cake from NCH Bakery is a wonderful treat. The cake is good and the icing is sweet and fluffy without being greasy. Bought daughters wedding cake here after the groomsmen did a blind tasting and chose this cake. read more

We used NCH Bakery for our wedding cake. Samantha was great to work with. The cake was perfect. We didn't have one piece left after the wedding. 3 tiers, all with different cakes and fillings, Plus a grooms cake. Everything was perfect. The price can't be beat. We looked at alot of bakeries while wedding cake shopping and they all wanted HUNDREDS more than what we paid here. I'm very happy. I highly suggest you try them. read more

They've been having tons of staffing issues but what you get is decent. It seems a bit declined in the last few years.

Called just now 12/4/2020 at 4:40pm and on the website it says. "Hours: Open Closes 6PM". A man answers and the first thing he says is " Were Closed!!" in a rude voice. He never apologized for the website not being updated. He simply could have answered any questions I had. I already did not have a great experience. read more

For my son's 16th birthday dessert - he wanted cherry or apple pie. So, I ordered a cherry pie from North College Hill Bakery and it did not disappoint. My great-grandma made an incredible cherry pie - this is the closet I have ever had to hers. It is homemade and was perfect! I had a big Mardi Gras party this weekend and was in need of a King Cake to help celebrate. I had heard that the bakery in NCH was able to accommodate this need and since it's real near by I stopped in last Tuesday. The customer area is a bit cramped so it can be a bit awkward during busy times at the bakery, but the staff is absolutely as sweet as can be, as was my King Cake. Placing my order for Friday was not a problem. I got a large King Cake and was able to choose from a variety of fillings for the cake including but not limited to: Cinnamon, Apricot, Strawberry, and Almond. They had two small King Cakes in store: one with Strawberry and one with Cinnamon filling. I decided to go out on a limb and get the Apricot filling. All told, the cake cost around $24. I picked up a truly beautiful work of art on Friday. I will take this time out to mention that the baby Jesus was outside of the cake, so I had to hide it inside on my own. I think they do this as a safety precaution, but if you're expecting one baked into the cake you need to know this ahead of time. This cake was an absolute hit at the party. I've had several parties, birthdays and other, and this is the first time I've had absolutely no leftovers of the cake at the end of the night. It was plenty big and everyone was able to get a piece, but people kept going back for seconds and more. Apricot was an excellent choice, and so is the North College Hill Bake Shop. read more

I hate leaving two stars. I have been coming to NCH bakery since I was a child. Recently things have gone down hill. Nothing tastes the same. We have always made an effort to shop local and until lately this was our favorite spot. The last several times the tea cookies and coffee cakes were stale. So sad.... read more

We have been getting cakes from the North College Hill Bakery for over 40 years. The cakes are always fresh and delicious. The cake decorations are very traditional with colorful flowers or balloons. I believe they can do custom designs also. Always happy with the cakes. read more

After seeing a local news story about this bakery, I thought I'd check it out - and I loved it. We went there around 10:30 on a Saturday morning and there was a small line to get in. Everyone - customers and staff - respected social distancing, occupant and mask guidelines. When I did get inside, it was definitely a throwback to another time, with display cases full of a large variety of items. The staff were all smiling and cheerful and very helpful with recommendations. We picked up an apple pie, some sort of butter pastry, a cream horn, eclair, individual German chocolate cake and an individual cicada cake (which is a yellow cake). All the items were very fresh. The German chocolate cake was my favorite. I also enjoyed the eclair, which was topped with chocolate buttercream instead of the standard ganache, but it was also lovely. My husband liked the cream horn and the cinnamon butter pastry thing (which was my least favorite, just because I thought it was a little plain and not my cup of tea). The cicada cake was cute and tasted good. I would definitely recommend a visit to this bakery. read more

I use to love the bakery. Since it changed owners in 2018 it seems like they have changed some of the ingredients. I really wish they would go back to the way it was I loved the pastries etc. I may try them again on the future to see if they go back to the way the old owners had it. One last thing I went in there on a weekday around 7a.m. there was literally nothing on display it was never like that the shelfs were always full,that should have been my red flag. read more

Very disappointed in my cake and service. I ordered a cupcake cake and provided pic of design. I was told it would be $60. To me a little pricey but it was for my granddaughter. I picked up cake it was beautiful. When we went to try and separate cupcakes the icing was so thick and heavy the cupcakes tore apart. Very unhappy I went back in and told them my experience. I was told that is why they quit making them and they shouldn't have made mine. I asked why they didn't tell me that and just got a shoulder shrug. I will not go back. Her wedding cake was not only delicious, but beautiful as well. For only a small fee they brought the cake to Batesville, Indiana to set it up. I went away for college and work & hadn't been in for years but one of the women remembered me and it made my day!! Everything is delicious! Always so fresh! My favorite are the glazed donuts. So simple yet so good! Just the right amount of glaze on the donuts, soft and chewy and so delicious! Every time I go I get at least three. I also love their coffee cakes. So rich and good. This place is legendary. My grandparents moved to North College Hill and so as a young girl, I fell in love with this bakery. Their tea cookies area treat I make sure I get everytime I go back home to Cincinnati. Their glazed doughnuts are also divine. I literally have nothing bad to say about this place. I haven't been here in person, but a friend brought us two small white cakes with buttercream frosting for my wife's birthday. Wow! This cake is simple but so delicious! Probably the best white cake/buttercream frosting I've ever had from a store. I've been going to this place for years and every time I always order too much! The donuts are delish and so are the pastries. I love supporting the local business especially when they make such good eats! They bake bread loaves, cup cakes, doughnuts, cookies, wedding cakes and a plethora of other confections. They are super affordable and the wait is almost unbelievable. You get in, you get out. Battaboom-Battabing! It's a small shop and you walk on one door and out of another. The set up is perfect. It's not trendy so don't expect wifi and table or any of the fluff. It's all about being a bakery and that's why I love it! It's so nice to have a neighborhood bakery like this ACTUALLY in the neighborhood. It can get busy here, because it's just that popular, but the ladies who work up front for the men who do the baking in the back are quick and efficient. If you're lucky enough to hit a lull in customers, you'll get to chit chat a bit with the otherwise all-business "servers". They are fun and funny and make it always a great place to return for a donut or pastry or bread or pie or you name it.
