I first came here just after their initial opening. And then a few times afterwards. Each time the food was delicious. The bao dishes were scrumptious. The house fried rice was excellent. What is a little concerning, however, was this last visit. We ordered what we typically order- Xiao Long Bao, House fried rice, Roujiamo, and chicken cabbage dumpling. Every dish seemed to lack the punch of flavor that we had experienced in our previous visits, which was super disappointing. Additionally, when we asked for their garlic chili oil, they said they don't make it anymore- and gave us a different kind. Such a bummer, since that chili oil was sooo good. I don't know if this last visit was just an off day or what... but maybe I'll try again sometime in the future. read more

The best food. Consistent every time. Friendly atmosphere. Love the soup Bao, bun Bao, Dan Dan noodles and cucumber salad. We drive 30 miles to eat there every Saturday. You can't go wrong. Highly recommend. read more

i didn't even eat here bet the food was great but the people working were some assholes. Rude as hell!

Cucumber salad is so tasty, and soup dumplings are A+! I've also had the fried rice and other dumplings, and everything was great! read more

This place is absolutely fantastic! This is my husband and is new go to dinner spot and we have recommended it to many of our friends! The honey short ribs, Pork bao and soup dumplings are amazing! Happy Bao's is my favorite new place and i definitely recommend it! The staff are very accommodating and the food comes out quick and delicious! read more

They close at 9pm and wouldn't seat us at 8:30. Lame. At least update your hours so people don't drive all the way over.

Best dumplings in the valley and beer juicy. Miss some of their specialty dishes and their bean milk is excellent. But can be a wait as it's gotten popular recently. read more

10/10 as usual. I come back for the wonton soups over and over. MUST TRY SOY MILK. Complements the spicy dishes. Will come back again.

The soup dumplings are life changingly good! I am now happily making my way through the entire menu once every week!

Wr regularly take out from Happy Bao. The food is fresh and excellent. Service is efficient and friendly. Small space but set in a large food court with plenty of seating if needed. Best soup dumplings (they're all great) and the Beef Chow Fun is my fave. Wish it was closer to home but a small price to pay for great asian food. read more

Happy Bao's - 8. Xiao Long Bao and 19. Dan Dan Noodle - Chinese Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

Great spot! Tasty dumplings, liked that I could get a combination! Also ordered the Dan Dan noodles and the beef noodle soup. Both were excellent. Might be the best beef noodle soup I've had recently. Meat was cooked really well! Would highly recommend and def would go back read more

Fairly new establishment inside the Mekong Plaza on north Dobson just south of Main Street. Had lunch here on a Friday at 11:30 AM with my son, who so graciously "footed the bill". We had House Signature Dumplings, 5 star! Seafood Wonton Noodle Soup (Shrimp, squid, crab meat, baby bok choy, scallions, and cilantro) 4 star. Beef Chow Fun (Beef, yellow onions, green onions, and bean sprouts stir fried with rice noodle), 3 star. They make all their own noodles and you can taste that. It was all pretty much OK but I doubt I would return just for the wonderful dumplings. read more

Not the best XLB's I've ever had but definitely the best I've had in Arizona. Chou's kitchen's are too thick and Dim Sum Cafe's had no soup. Happy Bao's dough is perfectly thin and had a great soup ratio. There just weren't enough of them per order! 8 pieces for ~$11. The dan dan noodles were OK, standard. Pan-fried pork buns (Pork Sheng Jian Bao) were interesting, but a bit bland for me. That's what soy sauce is for! It's a cute little shop located in Mekong Plaza. All-in-all worth it. May be pricier than the other restaurants, but you'll have your XLB craving satisfied! read more

Had to drive 45mins to get here and it was definitely worth the drive. The soup and chicken cabbage dumplings were definitely my favorite read more

Came here craving xiao long bao and upon the recommendation of one of my good friends. Was pleasantly surprised by everything there. Service was wonderful, the waitress was well informed and helpful, menu easy to understand and despite it being busy we were always attended to. We definitely ordered a bit too much food but also had planned to take food home for leftovers. Our favorite was hundred percent the Lu Rou Fan. It was incredibly flavorful and really reminded me of home cooking. My only comment on that dish would be that the egg needed to be marinated (in Chinese lu) a bit longer because then the flavor of the Lu Rou would have been infused into the egg white more. In terms of the other dishes everything was delicious. I personally probably would not order the spicy potato strings again because although it had a very similar flavor profile to the Fu Qi Fei Pian it felt a little less spicy and perhaps a needed a bit more vinegar. But even still it was good and the potato's were cooked perfectly for the dish. The chow fun was very flavorful and the beef, tender, however I would have liked it to be sautéed drier and perhaps the noodles cooked a bit less. I absolutely loved the Fu Qi Fei Pian, perfect balance of flavors and the ma taste from the sichuan peppercorn. We also really liked it wasn't just tripe but also had a lot of tendon, what seemed to be tongue perhaps? and little bits of meat. The Xiao Long Bao were very flavorful and had a good amount of soup inside however the skin was a touch on the thick side but still would hundred percent order this again. Lastly the Roujiamo was a new dish that I hadn't tried before and I really enjoyed the texture of the bun and the meat inside was flavorful. My only comment on that dish was that maybe the bun to meat ratio was a bit skewed towards the bun. I honestly can't wait to come back again and try more dishes. I loved my experience here and all the dishes we ordered. Highly recommend. read more

Very good, the Dumplings and Bao were outstanding. If your not sure what to get, they have a sample type where it includes a variety of fillings so you can try them all.. the food is made to order so expect a bit of a wait read more

I was at happy Bao's in 2019 ,ordering their signature Baos as a. first time cusomer, which were excellent in flavor, even before dipping them in the sauce provided. ! i also ordered iced green tea to drink with them . a good deal, and plan to return there again . this time to try the xiao long Bao's which i saw featured on a local tv show called (I think, "Plate and pour" hosted by Phoenix restaurant owner ,and chef. Mark Tarbell ),on my public station KAET Ch. 8.1 in Phoenix ,AZ). chinese dumplings, and Baos are two of my favorite Asian food types for light meals. ! -Jordan Francis in Phoenix ,AZ read more

I guess it's because this is the only noddle place that's why people come here. But everytime I come here they literally only give like one piece of meat for a whole bowl of noodles. I would not recommend this place. read more

The plaza is fun and the dumplings are good but pretty bland so not as great as hoped. But I'm no expert on Chinese dumpling so maybe they are perfect. We got a sampler with four kinds and honestly I could not tell which was which. So maybe they are great dumplings and dumplings just aren't our thing read more

We came back today and the food was outstanding! My sister couldn't stop raving about the food and of course her favorite was the seafood Xiao Long Bao. My sis is very impressed as she came from Philippines to visit us and she said the food is incredible. Thank you Matthew for the accommodations! We love Happy Bao's! read more

I was really excited for this place to open so when it finally did, we had to come try. The place is small with limited seating. If it's busy expect to wait or you can order food and then just take it to the food court area to eat. We ordered the signature dumplings, XLB, chow fun noodles, house fried rice and pork buns to share. I felt the XLB lacked soup and I didn't get that burst of soup in my mouth when I ate it. The fried rice and chowfun tasted good but I felt the portions were on the smaller side. Even though we ordered a bunch of plates to share amongst two families we left feeling hungry. However service was good, the staff was friendly and the food came out fairly fast for how busy it was. I wish the business success. read more

Food taste great and not very pricey. The service isn't very...good but they're always busy and the food is tasty so that speaks for itself. ‍ read more

I had my doubts because this place is "new". I wanted to wait until it worked out any issues it may come across as a new restaurant. BUT boy, am I glad I tried Happy Bao today! I crave dumplings and actual Chinese foods that aren't so muted by the "Chinese-American touches" that cater to the general population. I love both. but this place was a refreshing take on Chinese cuisine in Az. The dumplings and Xiao Long Bao were FANTASTIC. The fried rice was just the right amount of sticky. And the service was prompt and efficient. It was super busy, and the restaurant (while too small for the demand) was pleasant; as long as you know you may be sitting next to a stranger. It's ok, though! Because the food was too good to be uncomfortable. The prices? JUST RIGHT, if not a steal! Great stuff. read more

The Dan Dan noodle dish WOW WOW WOW soooo good! The texture of the noodles really take it over the top. Their side cucumber salad and Spicy Wontons are excellent too. After I eat the spicy wontons I take the left of chili sauce and put it on the cucumbers and again Wowwww!!! Also the 2 sauces that they have on the tables is really good too. We tried some of the other stuff it was all pretty good but my absolute favorite was the spicy wontons, Dan Dan noodles and side cucumber salad!!! read more

The food is really good only bad experience I had was this weekend that I bit into what appeared to be plastic it was a black piece of platic sharp as I bit into it my took hurt I brought it to their attention and they said it was peppercorn nope it wasn't they didn't even offer a discount or anything just said that that's what it was after they asked the chef,Also if it's your first time going know that they tack on a 15 percent tip to your total for a party of 6 so just be ready to pay that with your total read more

Some of the best dumplings and buns I've had in Arizona. We've gone a number of times and it's always been great!

Very fresh and flavorful. The dumplings were light and delicious. Singapore noodles savory and not greasy. Many other items on the menu that we will try in future visits. read more

This was our first time at this restaurant. It's located inside the mall. So you can't see it from driving around the outside. Not much for ambience kind of a fast food style interior. But, the food is crazy good!! We mostly ordered off the very front page of the menu. Things that were listed as favorites. We had two kinds of dumplings. The ones that came in the steaming pot with pork and soup inside we're highly addictive. The beef chow fun (sp?) That was something I had never had before. That may be my new favorite. Bottom line, this place is not to be missed! read more
