Busy place on a Saturday, even after UC has let out for the summer! Although the line was out the door when I arrived, most everyone was seated pretty quick. I think I waited 5 minutes? The large group of 6-8 in front of me were told they had to wait 30 minutes. Understandable, as the place is not very big inside. I was dining alone, so I was easy - a spot at the bar please. Impressively large bar, I might add. Two servers taking orders and slinging drinks helped quicken the process. They had wi-fi so after checking out the menu, I was on my laptop, but not for long! My coffee was in front of me within a minute and my meal, "Angry Egg" within 5 minutes! Man, this town moves fast! I really could've gone for an iced coffee, but none to be found here. I was surprised at how much of a bar (liquor and craft beer) it was as it is a breakfast diner. The service was friendly and fast, I dig the atmosphere- fun place! I was underwhelmed by the food though. The toast was perfect (I think on sourdough), but the scrambled eggs and hoe fries were just eh. When I lived in Clifton, Hang Over Easy was my #1 spot to...well...cure a hangover. They offer many different eclectic breakfast/brunch options that will cater to anyone, whether it be your friendly neighborhood hipster, your visiting parents, our your low key alcoholic friend group attempting to recover from the weekend. Hang Over Easy is located off of Short Vine on the southeast side of campus. The restaurant is large and minimally decorated. The fixtures and pieces that adorn the restaurant were chosen with care. Whoever designed the place wanted to tell you that you were going to enjoy a great damn breakfast in the most colorful yet chill way possible. The bright color scheme combined with the many windows may also be a subtle way of saying WAKE THE F%#! UP THE WEEKEND IS OVER AND THAT HANGOVER HAS TO GO! Maybe I'm just looking too much into it all. Whatever the case - it's a cool set up. The menu has a lot of approachable options mixed in with traditional choices that have twists. Anybody that serves goetta is automatically a good person in my book. For the longest time I ordered either the "Sloppy Seconds" (standard breakfast fare of eggs, toast and breakfast meat) or the avocado toast with goetta on the side. Recently I found out you can order their HOE Benny but sub the chorizo with goetta - now that's a game changer! They also have a full bar and an impressive tap selection should your choice of hangover cure be more drinking. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service is inconsistent. Whenever I sit at the bar the bartenders are on it and get me whatever I need in a timely manner. Whenever I sit at a regular table, the servers are difficult to find and just not as cheery to be there. Maybe because they're farther from the alcohol? Also, takeout service is atrocious. My food has NEVER been ready in the amount of time they quote. When you're nursing said hangover, the last thing you want is to be told 20 and it actually takes 45. I might as well take my walk of shame over to McDonald's at that point. I still highly recommend HOE because their food is amazing. Oh HOE you made my cheat day soooo worth it! I love going to new places and breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. My cousin and my friend joined me this morning on my new food adventure haha. The design of this place is super trendy and chill. When you walk in the bar is to your left and the fireplace with comfy seating is to your right. We were seated quickly and our waitress got our drinks to us really fast. I had a mimosa (which was $4 dollars!!!). So I ordered the Dirty Sanchez, it is a breakfast burrito with egg, chorizo, and "hoe fries" then they cover it in queso! Oh man that this was so good! We all shared the bacon fat fries. I literally decided Hang Over Easy deserved 5 stars when I figured out how to use the unique trough-like sink in the bathroom. Thought to self: "well, that's freakin' brilliant." (deep thoughts, I know, I know) Words of wisdom for your visit - the sink is sensor-powered, does not have a bowl and was invented by a genius (I'm certain of it). You're probably not reading this review for the bathroom sink, so let me get down to the nitty gritty. The nitty gritty as in the goetta - - the heart-stoppingly delicious, clog your arteries in 5 seconds, forget your diet goetta. If you're like me, I was new to the world of "goetta" - - which is a meat and oat based mixture that is served in many forms throughout Cincy - on pizza, by the slice, etc. In fact, they have an entire festival celebrating the cinful meat. (Get it? "Cin-ful" har har) I ordered the goetta as a side to pair with my Greek egg whites-only omelet filled with spinach, feta and sundried tomatoes. Also delicious - a little heavy on the buttah. Last but not least, the $4 Bloody Mary was spot-on with a made in-house mix that walked the fine line of perfect amount of tomato-y flavor and horseradish. We visited the HOE yesterday while on a mother/daughter trip. The atmosphere is very chill, not fancy but comfortable. Our server was nice and made great recommendations. So we ended up with the Dirty burrito and the HOE burger. Both were very tasty! The brussel sprouts are no longer on the menu! I really enjoy the whole concept of Hang Over Easy. It's down a side street close to the University of Cincinnati and I'd imagine it is very popular with the college students. We enjoyed breakfast here on a Saturday morning. There was no wait and we were seated right away on the back patio. The weather was perfect and our waitress was outstanding. Our breakfast was served quickly and it was very good. The bacon...WOW...out of this world. The HOE fries are not my favorite, but that is most likely due to my aversion to black pepper. My boyfriend raved about them...so there's that. They offer sourdough toast (YAY!) which I love and the eggs were fantastic. So I loved the food and the service, which I'm sure is obvious. I wanted to give this place five stars however there was one flaw that I could not ignore. There were two large dogs out on the patio with their owners which itself doesn't bother me, however, these dogs were running up and down the patio deck almost running into the restaurant and irritating the other patrons. Also, waitstaff was petting the dogs and then serving food (which I found very unappetizing). The chicken (tenders) had just the right amount of flavor/spice/heat and the waffles were fluffy and tasty. The service was hit/miss--couldn't find the waitress for several minutes. Really was in the mood to try a new breakfast place this morning and get some real good food, so I ended up driving an hour down to Cincinnati after finding this place online and looking through their menu. So worth it! I usually tend to stick to the basics at breakfast places, but honestly everything on the menu sounded delicious and I felt like I could branch out and thoroughly enjoy it so I got the chicken and chorizo skillet with over-medium eggs and wheat toast. It came with a drizzling of queso, all overtop seasoned potatoes and it just tied the entire thing together. The chicken was incredibly tender and had a great flavor, as did the potatoes. I've never been the biggest fan of chorizo, but it was honestly delicious as well especially mixed in with the rest of the bowl. The only negative thing I have to say was the eggs were cooked closer to over-hard, and I did wish they would've had a more runny yolk like an over-medium egg should be. But it definitely did not ruin my experience or the dish! My friend ordered the cinnamon roll French toast with a topping of strawberries and a side of bacon and loved every bite. Of course I had to try one, or three, bites and it was so tasty.. I'm already planning a trip back so I can order the cinnamon roll French toast this time. I had a virtually non-existent waiter who never gave me the coffee I ordered, never came by to refill water glasses, never even managed to check up on us or do the bare minimum of asking us if we enjoyed our food. All of this happened while the restaurant was nearly vacant. I didn't expect to feel like I was at a McDonalds. Maybe it was just one uncharacteristically bad experience though! I used to love this place but I just left here with a carry out an hour ago and it was the worst service I've ever had here. I literally just needed to pick up my carry out order and I walk in and it looks busy but I don't see a single worker. I stand at the front for a couple of minutes and finally I saw someone who works there. They told me to continue to wait there until the bartender comes back. Other servers would go behind the bar and make their own drinks and quickly run away without acknowledging me. I kept looking around for a manager or any sign of this bartender. I even asked one of the servers who went to make her drink and she said I had to wait for the bartender to come back. Finally I see what I think is the bartender and she completely ignores me and starts having a conversation with some customers at the bar but all I'm thinking about is how my food is probably so cold. I wait until she comes back over to where I was standing to make a drink and I finally say something. All in all I was there for 20 minutes before I got my food. By the time I got home it was cold and soggy and disgusting. I completely understand that things have been hard during Covid but i had something that I was supposed to be in and out quickly. I had already gotten the text that my food was done so I literally just needed to grab it and go but no one could do that for me! I stopped into HangOverEasy for breakfast prior to some plans that were already set in place. We were met and seated immediately, I had checked the reviews prior who said to check in before arrival but I did not have any problems getting in. The waiter was patient and checked in frequently to ensure we had a good experience. The food was good, but was a little pricey for what it was. I did thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere of a modern brunch destination, I could easily see it being a lot of fun to have a brunch party with mimosas there (although I did not partake on this day) overall I think this deserves about a 4 star, with great service and enjoyable food. If it weren't for it being a bit pricey even without drinks, it could be a 5 star. read more

Love it here. This is where we pregame for FCCincinnati matches. Located in the heart of Clifton just off Short Vine, it's nice and spacious, nice outdoor lighting through the windows, huge patio/deck for nicer weather; a cornhole set & giant Jenga add to the fun! Waitstaff is great, but we definitely miss our deck server Sabrina, she was the best. I've had several different menu items, this being one of my favorites. The buffalo chicken sandwich. Perfectly hot enough so that you don't have to wait between mouthfuls! And the bleu cheese dressing is awesome! They had Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing, which was poison for me. This morning my granddaughter took me out for my birthday and with the freezing rain, we decided not to go to Proud Rooster because they were lined out the door and there was no parking, so we went to Hang over. Big mistake!! I hadn't been in 5 years because food and service had so declined. I'd hoped that if they were still in business, someone must have righted the ship. Nope!! Ordered over medium eggs, they were over hard, after we'd waited 45 minutes to receive them! The hoe potatoes were crispy and would have been delicious except that the potatoes had not cooked through before they were sliced and sauteed, gross! My dranddaughter, against my advice (they used to have the worst gravy on the planet) got the frog eyes. The entire pool of gravy was surrounded by another pool of grease! As soon as I was seated, I was given sometime to go through the menu and I ordered a chicken chorizo skillet ( replaced the chorizo with chicken so it ended up being a double chicken skillet) with orange juice. My friend had ordered the HOE Benny and he loved it. It had all kinds of good fats and protein that would keep you feeling full till the next meal. I used the check in feature on yelp to beat the line while almost there- so easy if you haven't tried and thankful HOE had it! COVID review- whole experience was based on safety! They have happy hour at 9 a.m. And again at 3 p.m. Drinks are $2 - $5. The dirty Sanchez has hoe fries, (basically sliced potatoes from the skillet), charizo, scrambled eggs and queso cheese inside. The outside had shredded cheese sour cream tomato and red onion on top. It is seriously so good. The "frogs eyes".... Amazing! That's sausage gravy with a lot of sausage and chipped beef? A super super awesome and amazing fantastic place to eat. The brunch options are Fantabulous! I will eat there as often as I am willing to endure the 60 to 90 minute waitlist. Drink options of course include mimosas and different kinds of Irish or spiked coffees. (Yum) and though I am not really into super sweet breakfast foods, the glazed donut breakfast sandwich was on point! Checked in on yelp to help cut down on our wait time and were given a check in deadline of 25 minutes with a seating time frame of 25-50 minutes. We checked in on time. Somewhere between 65-70 minutes after we checked in our pager went off and we were offered seats at the bar. There were four of us, so when I said we'd prefer a table rather that sitting in a row, we were told well then you can continue to wait. Ugh. We had our two teenage sons with us. We sat in a row rather than enjoying conversation with our children. The bar staff were friendly, but not terribly attentive, heck, they were busy but wish my coffee would have been filled more often during the LONG wait for the food. It took forever and I wasn't offered a refill until it arrived. I got the HOE Benny and a pancake. The Benny was flavorful. The potatoes needed seasoning. The pancake had good flavor but was quite flat, not fluffy at all, texture was eh. The atmosphere was diner style and the menu was great. If I wouldn't have had to sit at the bar with my family after waiting way longer than expected, I probably would have been in a better mood about this place. The prices are great for the quality.
