Walking in loved the nostalgic diner feel with a modern twist. We were very excited about the menu options but settled on the Derby Brown and the Sliders. Hash browns were very good, crispy and generously seasoned. The turkey on the Derby Brown was thick cut but cooked a hair too long. The bread was basic and a simple substitution of their in house biscuits would have elevated the dish. The tomato bacon chutney was delicious and I wish they had added it to the sliders as well! The meat in the sliders; chicken and goetta, were both a bit overcooked so the overall slider was a little dry. But my husband and I both agreed that we would go back and make the slight modifications mentioned to truly enjoy what this restaurant had to offer. read more

I came here with my BFF, we were greeted as soon as we walked in and after our waitress cleaned a booth we sat down. We looked the menu over and ordered coffee then our meal. The place was clean and even the bathrooms although very small were clean as well. We watched as our food sat under the heat lamp for a bit and when it did make it to our table, it may have been slightly cool. The food was still very good. My BFF and I stopped in after a Yelp event while we were still in Covington. It was very busy and we took the last available table. The food was really good but sat under a warming light too long and came out just warm. The service was meh. Our wait person took our order and had no further contact with us until she brought the bill. The hardest working person was the older woman who sat us, brought our menus and brought our food out to us. She was very friendly. I will say again the food was good and there was a lot to choose from on the menu. Myself and my aunt arrived 5min after opening on a Saturday and we were addressed right away. Very friendly & quick service, place looked clean with very fun diner-esc decorations. And wow- probably the best chicken & biscuit combo I've ever tasted! The sweet and salty balance is perfection- don't fear the apple syrup! I will definitely be returning to try more. As soon as you walk in, you're welcomed by the entire staff. There was no wait today so we were able to sit right down and instantly take your drink order. The menu itself is straight forward and the waitress was willing to give her recommendations. Adorable cafe that serves breakfast and lunch (and cocktails). I found on Yelp and we were seated right away. I was also given a yellow rose. Apparently all the female customers are given them. We started with coffee in large mugs, and I was given a little pot of creamer. We each got the Bluegrass omelette, served on top of sourdough bread and with Havarti sauce on top. Delish. French toasts too sugary; biscuit bowl a tad bland (it needs the hash's spicy aioli sauce), but fresh; hash was spot on. Service sucked. Two servers; ours was curt and disjointed. He clearly didn't want to be there and served us our water and setups way too late and after we asked for them. When asked how my wife wanted her hash's "sunny side up" egg as described in the menu, she said "as the chef recommends"; she was then rebutted with "Again, how do you want your egg prepared?" Pike Street is a delicious place to come for brunch or lunch. I have visited Pike Street on two separate occasions and I have enjoyed it both times. On my first visit I ordered the s'mores French toast. It was decadently sweet, so next time I would probably order it to share with the table and go for a more savory entree. On my most recent visit I tried the "Derby Brown". Oh my goodness the havarti mornay sauce was so amazing, I will definitely be ordering this again! We were in town for a wedding and actually went to Pike Street two days in a row!! That should tell you something right there. Both times we had a fairly large group and we were welcomed by a host or hostess that was very accommodating to our needs. The restaurant isn't huge but it is well appointed to suit all sizes of groups. The menu has unique items on it and everything we ordered, from breakfast foods to lunch items, were DELICIOUS!! It wasn't a fast process, but each item is freshly made in an open viewing kitchen so keep that in mind. Those that ordered the coffee said it was some of the best they've had in awhile and Pike's sells bags of it in in the restaurant. Highly recommend Pike Street!!!! read more

I found this place because my friend was staying in town at Hotel Covington. It wasn't busy on a Saturday at 10 am, surprisingly, and we could sit right away. The restaurant has old diner vibes but it's cute. We ended up wanting mimosas and they have a flight of juices and bottle of sparkling wine that is only $30 to make your own. It came with 4 juices and all were so good. I got the omelet (was great), my husband got the burger (he said it was good and fries were good too) and my friend got the chicken sliders (she said they were great too). When I read that the same owner of Cedar was opening this diner, I was all in. They had a soft opening Saturday, but today was the day that was first open to Public. I got there not long after they opened at 8:30. There was a couple tables of people when I got there. They have a front and back menu and keep it very simple. The ambiance of the restaurant is very unique. I Loved all of the different textures, colors and coziness. They have a wall made of wooden pieces, beautiful designed wallpaper and a bright golden wall. They have several options when it comes to seating, you can seat yourself or they have the diner top where you can sit and watch your food being cooked (similar to Waffle House). If you have a big group or family you can sit towards the back where they have several tables. I went with the s'mores French toast and a Bloody Mary. I have a sweet tooth and absolutely love s'mores, so this was a hit. It was crusted which gave you the texture you look for in this. It was very good and I enjoyed every bite. I didn't notice any powder sugar like the menu noted, but there was a sprinkle of something that was perfect. I think the whipped cream could perhaps be on the side, because it quickly deflated from the heat of the fresh French toast. I loved this dish and would order it again! The Bloody Mary was full of flavor and beautifully made. I ordered the "Pike St. bloody" as they have three different options to choose from. It didn't have much spice to it, but was refreshing and great for a breakfast drink. Overall, so glad I got the chance to pop in here on the first day and experience the food firsthand. Came here for brunch with my father in law and boyfriend on our way out of Newport and the food was really good(: Walking into the restaurant, it was fairly quiet for a Wednesday morning at noon. The decor was clean, sleek and modern, I really enjoyed the atmosphere (: Our server was very quick and efficient and the food came out fairly fast. My boyfriend ordered the s'mores French toast which had a mild sweetness, it didn't leave you feeling like you had a mound of sugar. Father in law ordered the bluegrass omelette which he really enjoyed, and I ordered the biscuit bowl. I would give this a 3.5 rating, but rounding down to 3 for this review. Personally the menu wasn't my favorite - their brunch menu geared more to lunch than breakfast, felt heavy, and very meat-focused. That being said, I think the menu does have a unique flair for those looking for this type of meal and is maybe more on-point with a typical diner. I wish they had a couple additional sweet options on the menu that weren't a stuffed meal (or offer an option of the existing items without the waffle/French toast stuffed with sweets) - they do sound yummy but a bit too much like dessert to be eating for breakfast. I got the bluegrass omelette and it was tasty. Not much else I would be interested to order on the menu if I came again besides one of the sweets.. maybe paired with some savory sides to balance it out! read more

I've never experienced worse service EVER. My friends and I came here on a Saturday and they let us know it would be a little wait and we were okay with that because we saw there was lots of food sitting in the window expo. It seemed like it was moving pretty quickly until it wasn't. We finally get seated and it took us 35 minutes to order food and then we didn't get our food for 2 hours. We were at the restaurant for almost 3 hours and 6 tables got up and left because the cook was SO SLOW. He was cooking one meal at a time and people had to leave so they didn't miss their flights or other plans. It was ridiculous. There was literally 4 tables when we left and someone came in after all the tables had left and they told them it would be a 2 hour wait. We asked if the food could be brought out since some of our tables food was ready and they said that they couldn't do that and tried to refuse. I will NEVER come back here which is so disappointing. I love their sister restaurant Cedar and have never experienced anything like this. My food wasn't even good, it was burnt, but at least everyone who got a hash said theirs was decent. read more

If you're a fan of Cedar, Yuca, or simply looking for a great breakfast/lunch option on the Madison Ave. area of Covington, you should definitely check this out! The one surprising thing I found was that the menu had a slightly higher price point than I was expecting for a "diner" but still not unreasonable for how great the food is! Oh man... this is my new favorite brunch place! The menu is small but I had such a hard time deciding what to get bc it all sounded so good! First of all, the ambiance is spot on. Second of all, major points for this perfect noodle-like ice they have... sounds weird but I definitely have a new favorite ice shape. I had the hash and was so relieved when it came out with the onions and peppers well done (I HATE crunchy veggies in a hash). Just yummy! My friend had the biscuits and gravy which I will be getting next time - super delicious! Sausage has a hint of spice but nothing crazy. She also got the candied bacon, which is actually coated in red pepper flakes so it's very spicy. My other friend had the omelette and said that was good too! We split a pancake and it was a solid little guy, would get it again. The coffee was good and is a dark roast. Mugs were adorable. Servers were extremely friendly without overdoing it.
