Great service and great food. People who work there have been around for a while so I think they are taking care of their staff. Feels like home. I love the oyster nachos, surprisingly good! Go hungry! Can't wait to go back! read more

Entire experience was outstanding! Super friendly staff who all understand customer service. We arrived and checked in, waited outside in their relaxing chairs and they brought us glasses of ice water while we waited. Tyler was our server and he was spectacular. He made sure our 5 orders were perfect and he offered some great recommendations. After dinner we ordered the Key Lime pie, bread pudding and peach cobbler and they were all fantastic. This place deserves a 5 star review! read more

We were looking for an oyster bar as we were in the area for our date night, and found this place on Yelp. We were not disappointed! Our server was extremely nice and personable. We ordered our food and were pleasantly surprised by the "welcome train", which consisted of fried oysters (? Not sure...no one told us what was on the plate at all!), and four soups. All was tasty! As we enjoyed the "welcome train", our dozen oysters came, and we scarred them down! We also asked to split the Honey Chipotle Shrimp Tacos which were brought out on two plates, rice also split amongst the two plates (most places will bring you an extra plate but these guys actually took the extra time to split our meal for us!). Since we were on our date night, we also tried out their drinks! We tried out the Strawberry Basil, Tito's Front Porch Lemonade, Blackberry Smash, and the Hurricane. Tip: If you like sour, Tito's Front Porch Lemonade will surely make your lips pucker! *Stay away if you have heartburn!* read more

Today at lunch I celebrated my birthday at Half Shells Seafood Grill in Plano, TX. I had an "Enjoy a Free Appetizer on us" coupon to use. I chose the Peel & Eat Shrimp. My waiter, Patrick was so generous and gave us the 12 piece appetizer instead of the usual gifted one of 6 pieces. And then he gave me a birthday dessert too! Patrick made my birthday lunch so special with his generosity and upbeat personality. My husband and I have been going to both Fish City Grill / Half Shells for about 15 years. The service is always friendly, efficient and knowledgeable AND the food is always cooked perfectly and tasty. That is why we keep coming back. Barbara read more

Great dinner last night at Half Shells. Our server was Rudy who remembered us and was a great guy. His service was great despite the restaurant being quite busy. Highly recommended Half Shells for a casual dinner read more

Dallas may not be the first place you think of when craving some good seafood, but Half Shells Seafood Grill may change your mind. It's located in a fun area that I could just wander around all evening (after the hot sun goes down, of course.) Daily specials are written up on the wall and most patrons seemed to flock to that wall to decide what they want to try. Our server pointed out a few items and gave some suggestions. After learning that this was our first time at the restaurant, he brought out a sampler dish of several soups and spicy shrimp. What?! That was cool. I ended up ordering trout-and it was amazing. It was paired with potatoes and green beans. Everything was so good that I finished it all-and it was a generous helping! Can't wait to come back and try even more. read more

Grilled salmon, kale, quinoa, plus salad is truly great. Been my favorite go-to item healthy here, and I hope they never remove it. You don't find it many places, and HS does it well. read more

Came here to use my anniversary certificate for a free app. All other locations allow you to use it on the oyster appetizers. This location; however, does not. I was given a barrage of excuses as to why they did not, which don't add up. For consistency sake, all locations should reflect the same rules. I ordered a mimosa.. it was riddled with pulp. I felt like it was a meal instead of a drink. Very gross. This is the driest and most unfriendly location as well. I am a loyal customer, but did not feel valued, and this place is last on my list of locations. read more

The chef was very careful to make my honey chipotle tacos gluten free. The food was very tasty.

I went here for the first time a few days ago. It was really just on a whim. We were in Plano and were looking for somewhere to eat, and none of us are super familiar with Plano, so we just kind of picked something, and I'm very glad we picked this place. We started with a half dozen half shell oysters (they had several varieties to choose from) and they were fresh and delicious. Then everybody enjoyed their entrees. I had the seared scallops and applewood bacon shrimp, and it was amazing. After we were all finished, we were very satisfied, but one member of my party decided the oysters were so good that he wanted more and we ordered a dozen more. I thought there was no way we would be able to eat a dozen more oysters, but we did. Every last one. Service was good, although I no longer recall the name of our server, but he was great. The food was most excellent. I'm already planning to go back on my birthday next month, and I think this may become my first choice restaurant for celebrations and special occasions (it's kind of far away from me, or I would probably eat there every week). It was excellent in every way, and I would recommend to anybody. read more

We ordered Bayou Catfish, Crab Bisque, New England Clam Chowder, and Rainbow Trout. Bayou Catfish: I saw it on the board. $9.99 came with rice and baked beans. I was expecting grilled catfish, turned out it was fried. 3/5 Crab Bisque: first scoop of soup: yuck.....the alcohol taste was so strong. I had never had crab bisque with alcohol before, so I googled it to see it they really use alcohol to make crab bisque. $4.95 for a very small cup. New England clam chowder: not bad 4/5. Still pricey at $4.95/very small cup Blackened Rainbow trout $17. Came with 2 sides. Picked french fries and steamed veggies. I think it was a little too salty. 3/5 Overall, I think the food was a little salty and pretty price for lunch. Bisque took me by surprise read more

I had the Catfish first and last time! Very thin and not a nice flavor. It was prepared very nice just the quality was poor most likely frozen also. The coleslaw was not very appetizing to say the least. Fries were marginal the best tasting item on the plate was two small hushpuppy. They better be careful with the way they handle their oysters!! This is why we went there to begin with!! There was way too many oysters put out that was not being put on enough ice and was getting warm up to room temperature. read more

Very well liked restaurant. Very busy on a Friday night. I don't really appreciate when beer prices are unmarked. Any starting business is capable of marking their prices for individual fare. I don't know when an establishment reaches a degree when marking their prices is no longer necessary but that probably marks a degree of establishment that only expects its renown to carry its beer. I think I had a mystery pint for $7. Service was fast. Clientele was older and well established. Food was good. Overall no issue. read more

Always good service. Food is good! I'm not a huge seafood lover but my husband adores their fish and chips so we go there fairly often. I usually get a shrimp platter. They let you substitute sides and the frozen margarita for $6 during happy hour was awesome. read more

Love this place! We had gone here many times in the distant past, it's only recently we rediscovered Half Shells and glad we did! Even better than before and it's awesome! Best. Experience. My mom and I ate here for lunch today and it by far exceeded our expectations. The food was fantastic but even the food was no comparison to our phenomenal server Jimmy. He was so very knowledgeable about the menu and suggested all of the best oysters and entrees. He even split our meal in half since we mentioned we wanted to share both our entrees. The ModelT and Kamata Bay oysters were sweet and delicious! Way better than any gulf or Galveston oyster. Definitely recommend them! The crab stuffed flounder was perfection with the little bites of capers and toasty cooked bottom. The cod Oscar was even more delicious. The crab on top with the Hollandaise just added to the flavors. I loved it all. Will be back! And will only be requesting Jimmy due to his friendliness and attention to details and descriptions. If Jimmy goes, I go. Where we going Jimmy!!?? read more

Wish I could give this place 8 stars. Excellent service, food is so good. Oysters are absolutely unbelievable. So fresh and the happy hour makes a visit for wine and oysters very affordable. Can't say enough about this place. Catherine the bar server is so friendly and attentive read more

Food is always fresh and the dishes are cooked beautifully. Just delicious. However, when it gets very busy on Saturday night and there are lines waiting for a table, just go somewhere else. Their kitchen and wait staff can't handle it. Our appetizer never showed up, our main dishes were cold and had to be sent back. They were very gracious about it but we now get there at 5pm weeknights and skip it on weekends. read more

The boiled crawfish were pretty good - served hot and you can add spice. The damn good bacon cheeseburger is also a good option

The menu was great! Nice selection of food and the specials were also enticing. Ordered the spicy shrimp tacos which came with a ton of avocado. The tortillas were no bueno so I ended up eating with a fork Nice selection of beers too read more

Enjoyed a great meal with superb service. The servers (Michelle and Trina) were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. The seafood enchiladas and shrimp tacos were delicious. The atmosphere on the patio was pleasant and refreshing. It was First Tuesday at the restaurant and they were supporting Sissie's Steppers to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's research, support, and care. It is wonderful to see a restaurant support the community by giving back. The entire Half Shells team is to be commended. Kudos to managers Sam, Carol and Hunter. The service was absolutely amazing. The fish and shrimp was delicious. Great flavor. It was our first time there so they brought out a sample of Gus soups . The soups were delicious. The oysters are great, the cocktail sauce and horseradish are kinda thin. The mixed drinks are awful though, definitely skip.

I have been to this restaurant a few times when I visit Dallas. I like the way the food is prepared, good dishes and daily specials. The atmosphere is light and casual which is nice, not too formal. The service has always been great. I will continue to visit! The only area where they could improve is the wine menu, if you're good wine this is definitely not the place, no options for high end wine. read more

Love the new location and the food is always excellent. A wonderful, bright, modern space with a nod to a New Orleans restaurant. Best oyster selections in north Texas other than Waters in Funkytown and one of the very few restaurants around here that serves redfish. Normally, Yelp is pretty accurate but unfortunately, not in this case. My wife and I stopped in at Half Shells while shopping at Legacy. We ordered the calamari appetizer and were very surprised when we got it about 4 mins later. How can they cook it that quickly? Obviously, they pre-cooked it and warmed it up in the microwave or back into the fryer for a couple of mins. The calamari wasn't hot, wasn't freshly cooked and lacked flavor. Fortunately, the sauces were good so we doused the food in there. We ordered the shrimp stuffed Flounder which sounded delicious. The waitress put the food on the table, and then some guy from the kitchen came running over because he forgot to sprinkle some type of garnish on it. I think he added dill weed, or something similar but it was a bit awkward to have him finishing up the plate at our table. The fish didn't have any flavor at all. I'm not a picky eater, but I had trouble eating the food. The mashed potatoes and broccolini were excellent though. If I had to eat here again, I would probably just order mashed potatoes and broccolini because that was the only thing done right. They should change the name to Half Taste Seafood Grill. read more

Wow!! I made a bad choice trying to get calamari and fries delivered, but I know that's on me - they seemed like they would've been super tasty in house!! The sauce for the calamari was very nice. Cobb Salad was awesome! I had blackened shrimp on top. Their seasoning was FLAWLESS. Crab bisque was delicious as well (I actually forgot I ordered it and put it on something else like a sauce. LOL but it was very smooth and seasoned well!) Shrimp and shroom linguine - this stood out to me. It was SO good and such a generous portion. I have been thinking about that for like 3 days lol. That was very very nice!! Shrimp & grits - I am kind of an addict and I order this every time it's on a menu. They did really well!! I actually was impressed by the quality of the grits. At this point I'm a snob and think a lot of places make their grits too bland but these were loooovely. Thank you! read more

My wife and I found this place by accident about a year ago. We have been here several times. The fact they have New England oysters flown in fresh keeps us coming back. Sometimes, the food is a hit and miss because the combination of flavors doesn't really meld well. This being said, this food is really good. I will continue to come back for the oysters and try something new. read more

Had lunch here with my daughter, and grand daughter. The ambiance was nice inside but it was beautiful weather so we ate outside, crawfish bisque was my fave, we also had oysters on the half shell for appetizers, my daughter(grand daughter is 2 she just kinda had a bit of everything except oysters)shrimp and grits was good also, drinks were even better(Bloody Mary/watermelon margarita)! read more

New to the area and found this spot upon a Google search and was not disappointed! Ricky was friendly and knowledgeable of everything on the menu. I was even brought over a sample of all of the soups and the smokin hot shrimp as a first timer and they were all delicious. I personally liked the clam chowder and jalapeño soups the most. I ordered a few of all of the oysters offered and cannot recall which was which but enjoyed them all! From the service, food, drinks and happy hour specials, everything was amazing. This is definitely a new favorite spot for oysters, hot shrimp and margaritas. Can't wait to come back! read more

Our server was nice but everything else was a disappointment, unfortunately. We ordered the fish tacos (they are actually burritos), the crab bisque, and pecan crusted flounder. Crab bisque was inedible, extremely sweet and had a chemical aftertaste. Almost like bisque mixed with Dawn, very odd. Left all of it and didn't take it to go, but we weren't really asked about it or asked how our food was. The fish taco/burritos were fine but cold, and the black beans it came with were unseasoned. The plating was also very messy. My husbands flounder was an oily mess with the flavor of an old deep fryer (his broccoli was also unseasoned.) We were excited to try this place but I wouldn't recommend to anyone, we came home starving. read more

Had the oysters in half shells (east coast). Delicious, medium sized (aww shucks has the biggest ever), not too salty. Then had the snow crab boil (old bay seasoning). Three crab clusters (huge chunks of gorgeous crab came out of their shells perfectly), fabulous shrimp (perfectly cooked, not rubbery at all), and I hate to say, but the seafood was so good barely paid attention to corn and potato. Messy af, but soooo good and totally worth it! read more

Great environment, lovely staff, our server, Trina is super super awesome, thanks you Trina for great service. The food was okay, I had the "Caribbean Shrimp Tacos": grilled shrimp, jicama mango slaw, minted buttermilk drizzle and Cuban black beans. 1st the shrimps need a bit more seasoning 2nd mango slaw needs more mango flavor to it 3rd minted buttermilk drizzle needs to have the mint taste to it...it's not minted unless you taste the mint. Cuban black beans a bit spicy but good. The fried calamari appetizer were good, bread pudding was delicious. read more
