Fun atmosphere, the food was just ok. The place was busy. They had a good cocktail and wine and beer selection. We had calamari as an appetizer. It was good but not really flavorful. Also had a cup of the crab bisque-good flavor. For my entree I had the Crawfish Half and Half. It was fried crawfish tails and crawfish etoufee over white rice. It was ok, i was just hoping for more flavor-they need to spice it up. My sister had the special-it was a red fish with mashed potatoes and asparagus. She said the redfish wasn't all that good and the asparagus did not have the bottom ends cut off so it was kind of hard to cut. Four of us did split the key lime pie-and that was very good! For the money I just didn't think it was worth it. Not much flavor overall. read more

I do love this place. Always have. Old location was great and Jimmy was awesome. Sad he's gone. Haven't been to the new location down the street but have gotten take out. My only critique is to tell the chef/owners to teach folks how to properly clean the shrimp. It's totally put me off the peel & eat and fried shrimp due to the lack of knowledge and results. Otherwise, hope it stays fresh and clean and adds fried flounder to the menu instead of catfish! :) read more

When we arrived this place was extremely busy because the shops at Legacy was having a festival. But we got a seat and the service was really good. The food was tremendous as well! They got the kids meals out in great time and our adult meals did not take long either. read more

I always love coming to Half Shell because the service is excellent and the food is so good. We got several pounds of crawfish and the crawfish were large and well seasoned. Maddy was training with the new manager, Victor and both were absolutely wonderful! They even brought our dog his own little water bowl since we were sitting on the patio. Definitely will be back soon. read more

Had lunch there today. Started with the jalapeño soup which was great. For my entree I had the Oscar Cod. It came over rice and topped with hollandaise sauce and asparagus. Sounds great, but was bland and tasteless. The dish was recommended by the waiter yet he didn't seem to notice I barely ate it. I would NOT go back. Waste of time and money. read more

We only stopped in for a happy hour appetizer and glass of wine. We ordered the crab cake and the portion was great as well as the quality. They have a good happy hour menu and the staff is very friendly. It has a "diner vibe".........?.... serving seafood? so I was unsure at first but it was good. I will revisit! read more

Crazy fast to go service and they have curbside parking too. Their chargrilled oysters are delicious! Their shrimp po' boy was fresh and a tasty treat and loved the coleslaw. Friendly and masked staff with social distancing being observed which is appreciated. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Food was amazing! Crawfish was fresh and great taste with the added butter. Oysters were great as well overall 10-10 would highly recommend.

First, I think this place is definitely worth a try. I let them know that this was our first visit (do that) and they gave us a sample of four of their soups and I seriously loved all of them. It also came with a spicy shrimp appetizer taster which was fabulous as well. We got oysters, a crab cake, fish and chips, snow crabs and shrimp boil, an ole fashion and a cup of gumbo...yes, I was hungry and needed some comfort food. I think I was more into having apps than a meal, but I thought I was very nice, fun, casual and worth it. That whole bill was like $87. Thanks Rudy for good service. read more

I came here tonight with friend and family for dinner and the food was excellent. We had the trout special, Salmon and the stuffed flounder and it was so well cook that there is no fishy smell. Our waiter Ricky was very knowledgeable with the special items and the menu. He came and check up on our table every 10 minutes. Our drinks were always full. Also at the end of the night the restaurant manager came to check in us and thanks us for our business. I will refer this restaurant to my friends and neighbors. Also the restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. read more

This evening I decided I wanted some seafood so I went out on Urber and found Half Shells Seafood and Grill. I ordered the Alabama Catfish meal with their recommendation for the Cole Slaw and I elected Mash Potatoes. Well, let's just say I was very disappointed after spending over $50 on this meal. The meal was cold when I received it, the Mashed Potatoes were "INSTANT" that was just not acceptable for me. The fish was OK, but was fried to the point that one piece was very dark and very "CRISPY". The Cole Slaw that shows recommend on the Uber app was awful. No flavor. If I could give them a BIG FAT ZERO I would, but you have to select at least one star. Do not order from this place. I'm also going to call Uber and see what I can do to remove them from their listing. I don't want to see others end up with just an awful meal! p7099 read more

Not normally a negative poster but late dinner after movie last week. Sat down at about 9:15, about 5 other tables occupied, thought weird for a Friday night but it was after 9pm. Food delivered to table super fast, to the point that husband couldn't decide if the bacon on the bacon-wrapped shrimp was undercooked or if shrimp was undercooked. He was starving and didn't send back. I had cup of clam chowder which tasted fine but my stomach hasn't been fine since that night. And that was all I had eaten that day. Was it the food? Anybody's guess. But I know that we have always been fans of this place when in the area, this was first visit since they moved to larger space. But very disappointed in food quality, service was fine but gave vibe of ' rather be anywhere but here'. I get it, it's Friday night. But we probably won't be back. And that's sad. read more

This place rocks! The food is very good and the service is even better! The hostess met us outside as we were trying to find a place to park the Harley. She helped find a parking place, got us seated and Paul the server, took it from there! The appetizers were very good. Dozen on the half shell with fried oysters for the main meal! Then the cobbler was off the charts!!! No negative feedback or criticism could be found - as you know, i am not bashful or shy to share the truth as we see it.... read more

I had one of the specials; Pan Fried Flounder Piccata. I ATE ALL OF IT. It was so good and the Gouda cream sauce was so yummy. It came with asparagus and the flounder was cooked perfectly. As a pescatarian I am always looking for new fish or different fish meals beside salmon and shrimps. The only thing that could have made this better for me is a little spice. It was priced well also. read more

Half Shells is one of the more popular casual restaurants in the Legacy Shops. As the name implies, it is a seafood restaurant that serves oysters (both raw and fried) and grilled / blackened fish, shrimp, etc. Menu is rounded out by non-seafood options like chicken. Fun sides include fried pickles, hush puppies and waffle fries. We like this restaurant because it is always warm and serves half a dozen chowders and soups on those blisteringly cold days. I've been to Half Shells Oyster Bar & Grill for lunch and dinner. I prefer going for dinner as it seems there is better staffing and faster response times. Wait staff may be a bit more relaxed with the time tables, offering free soup samples (they usually do a free sample of EACH and EVERY soup for new customers) and more drink refills. Perhaps during lunch, they think you need to get back to work or have a limited period of time to shoot the shells. Plus, I like dinner cause folks won't look at you funny if you eat a dozen raw oysters all by yourself. Lunch here is not bad though. Portions are good for those with New Years diet resolutions. I was surprised they don't offer a soup and salad lunch special, especially as they offer so many soups and salads. A Gluten Free menu is available upon request. Parking may be tricky on peak lunch and dinner times. read more

emmmmmm...... not what I was expected. Very normal or poor quality of food and just so-so service. Two stars and that's it. I guess I might just pick one of the worst restaurants instead of Bob's steak( they are sadly not open on July 4th)... Update: It seems they have a very positive attitude, care and want to improve. I like that. Though I may not go again, but I would like to give them one more star to help keep their review in good shape. read more

I came back with my parents since this place is their fav. We had the beer battered Alaskan cod sandwich, chipotle shrimp tacos, and red beans and rice with hushpuppies. It was better! Our server Ricky was amazing! He earned his OWN star. The food was ok. I thoroughly enjoyed my red beans and hushpuppies. The red beans were flavorful, but they weren't heavily seasoned. The hushpuppies had the right amount of crisp and chew. I tasted my mom's sandwich and it was ok. I enjoyed the shrimp on the taco my dad had, but I didn't like the tortilla. All in all it was better than the last time and it was on my parents so winning! read more

Cozy casual with a coastal flair. You a parrot head? Beach comber? Refugee from the Conch Republic? And need to get a fresh seafood fix without the coat & tie and hefty bank withdrawal? This is your place. I have been here multiple times and rarely find anything amiss. Restaurant namesake is my go to: A dozen oysters on the half shell. You choose oyster type/ origin. (Yes each region, heck each oyster bed or estuary has its own flavor). Your oysters arrive freshly shelled on a bed of snow cone ice with lemon slices, remekins of horseradish and ketchup as well as a special little red sauce that looks like a cross between Pico & salsa. Great idea w the little cups of ketchup & horseradish- it enables everyone to mix their cocktail sauce to heat of their choosing. Me? I'm a splash of lemon and a dab of horseradish girl. Fav oyster? Blue tips are my current go to- Tip here: if you can make it to happy hour do so. Oysters & beer both on special Tip two: bar is open seating. On a busy Friday night grab a chair their while someone in your party gets on wait list. Bar staff is prompt & friendly. read more

My husband and I happened upon this little gem one evening while out shopping, and I'm so glad we did. First up-half shelled oysters from PEI. If they're from PEI, I would eat them forever, but they are a little pricier. Plus, I can't stand watching my husband crumble a cracker a tabasco sauce on it-they are delicious with just a small squirt of lemon. Next if this is your first visit, you're in for a treat! They will bring you out samples of some of the best comfort-wake-up-your-taste-buds soups ever. Clam chowder, lobster bisque, gumbo..but I'm partial to the roasted jalapeño soup and can't stay away from it. The menu has a more Cajun flavor to it, but if you don't like "dirty" or "blackened" foods, there are plenty of other things to it. No complaints from me, I've been here a few times and I always walk out feeling fat and happy read more

The food was only surpassed by the service. Tyler waited on us and provided us with superb service. Definitely someplace you want to dine.

Thank you, Bo and your team, for a wonderful pre-Valentine evening dinner. Great food, good drinks and fun people at the bar tonight. Enjoyed the visit and since my wife was happy all was good! Have to mention the Valentine's Day special dinner which was a fabulous match and a great deal! Salmon was tasty and the seafood lasagna was the star of the show. Grilled prawns and side salad were well matched. Oysters on the half shell were very tasty but were way too small. We especially liked the new wait-list process by cell phone which is much more efficient. Seek out this special small seafood cove. You'll be glad you did! ******************************************************************** Updated from recent visit, 8/11/17. Been going here since 2002 and never had a bad meal. Sean has been taking care of us that long too. Oyster Nachos are as good today as they were the first time we tried them in 2002! Fish Tacos are always a winner too. Board Specials are always interesting. Just a good comfortable place to hangout. Great to have 'our' own place like going to Cheers! read more
