    My husband accidentally found this place and we absolutely love it! The oyster noddle soup was so flavorful and they put so many oysters in it! I loved my rice dish, too. The staff were so nice, and our food was so good. The portion of food is so good for the price. I cannot wait to come back again!

    Came here for the first time and ordered the premium scorched rice soup with seafood and the jajangmyun for two, which was plenty of food for the price! The noodles were perfectly chewy and the black bean sauce was surprisingly rich and flavorful, especially for only being $5.99. The scorched rice soup was thicker than expected, but it was still a comforting and enjoyable bowl. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout. Already looking forward to coming back to try the sweet & sour pork!

    My friend and I went to Hainan around 12:30pm on a Sunday. It was decently busy, but we were able to get a table without a wait. It's a bit of a walk from Main Street, so I would recommend catching a bus, especially in the cold weather! The ambiance is casual, with the menu items posted up around the restaurant. For food, it comes down to preference. We each ordered a jjajangmyeon ($11.98 - I could've sworn the menu said $9.99, but that may be a lunch special price?) and a medium tangsuyuk to split ($23.99). Pricing is fair, and it is still cheaper than Manhattan prices. I was a bit off-put by the orange-colored noodles in the jjajangmyeon, but they had a nice silky texture. The sauce was where the dish lost me. I don't know what it is, but it tasted almost like there was a tomato component in the sauce, and the sweet black-bean flavor was not coming through to me. The tangsuyuk was fried well and the coating had a nice texture. However, the meat itself was flavorless and absolutely needed the sauce. Service was mixed, though everyone was courteous. The food came quickly, and I was granted more kimchi when I asked (this kimchi was REALLY good!). However, you have to ask for most things (water, water refill, kimchi refill, etc.). I'm not super put-off by this, since that's how it is in Korea, so just be aware of it. Overall, the food is still good, but since it is not my preference, I will be checking out other places in the area before returning to Hainan.

    It remains a mystery to me how the name "Hainan" was selected for this above-average Koreanized-Chinese restaurant in eastern Flushing. There is no relation between the food served here and the beachy island in Southern China. Perhaps it is similar to the way the word "Manchurian" is used to evoke distant lands in Indo-Chinese food, which I can assure you has no culinary relationship with Dongbei cooking. The tofu with vegetables here was one of the best tofu dishes I've had recently. The tofu was perfectly fried with a starchy outer layer and a perfectly custardy interior, served in a thickened gravy. I would come back for this alone. I was less a fan of the jjajjangmyeon. I prefer when restaurants use a mix of corn starch and water to create a thicker sauce from the jjajjang, but there was very little gravy here, and as a result it was hard to impart much flavor upon the noodles.

    Life is short. F....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends. was in the neighborhood running errands inside pop in here to try out the food. This is a typical Korean/Chinese style restaurant with the classic jajamyum and jambong. Service is friendly . Mandoo fried nicely and tasty. The chicken was savory and sweet with a good crisp. The noodle dishes came with egg yolk noodles.. Which was a nice touch vs normal ones. Could have a lil more selection of bon Chon . But overall good experience ..try the chicken

    Ordered for delivery. The beef noodle soup with seafood was excellent. Beef was savory and cooked properly. Rating 8/10 They use the same noodles in everything and the noodles are great. They are long, soft and chewy. The jjajang sauce was very flavorful and mixed well with the noodles. Rating 8/10 The cream fried shrimp reminds me of walnut shrimp from Chinese restaurants. Shrimps are big. The frying is good. The sauce taste like mayo, honey and a bit of mustard. 8/10

    TLDR: Good local spot in the Broadway Flushing area for Korean-Chinese. Very old school flavor and also some tough to find items. Can't go wrong with the jjampong or jajangmyun. I think they've been around for awhile but I never got a chance to try until recently. I found this place because ever since I had jjampong (seafood noodle soup) with beef brisket in Korea - I have been chasing that flavor. So when I saw Hainan had this, I needed to try. The broth was flavorful, it was not too greasy and there was a good amount of seafood. We also tried the spicy jajangmyun which had a nice wok-fried flavor and real spice. Fried dumplings were tasty and the so was the sweet/sour pork. They put the sauce on the side which I prefer - so the coating doesn't get soggy. I think this is one of the better places you can get Korean/Chinese at.

    I love a good Korean-Chinese restaurant, and Hainan 100% delivered. They currently have an ongoing promotion for jjajangmyeon--$5.99 a bowl when dining in and $6.99 for take-out or delivery--so run, don't walk. You won't find such a sweet deal anywhere else. * Coolpis Iced Tea 쿨피스 아이스티 $3.50 They have these cute little signs at all their tables advertising drinks, and my partner completely fell for it. He saw the Coolpis Iced Tea sign at our table and was like "That looks good," and proceeded to order one. It was delightful, so peachy, cold, and refreshing! * Noodles in Black Bean Sauce 짜장면 $5.99 Their jjajangmyeon usually costs $9.99, so $5.99 is such a steal. We ordered two bowls, and the portions were huge. The noodles were thick, chewy, and luscious, coated in rich and savory black bean sauce. * Fried Pork with Sweet Sour Sauce (Small) 탕수육 $18.99 When this dish first arrived, my partner looked at the portion and commented, "We should've ordered the medium." I'll admit the portion definitely looked a tad sad, but I was certain that small was enough, and as expected when paired with the jjajangmyeon, it was more than enough. The fried pork was crispy and crunchy, while the sauce was sweet, sour, and tangy, with large pineapple chunks, zucchini, wood ear, and other ingredients. Overall, amazing experience! The staff were sweet, speedy, and attentive, and so quick to refill banchan. Furthermore, they offer Yakult at the end?! 10/10 recommend!

    Came with a large party for dinner. We got 2 H1 which came with 3 jajamygeon, fried chicken with spicy sour soy cause, stir friend starch noodle with veg I beef, fried pork with sweet sour sauce, and a charm soju. We also got a seafood jajamygeon with 2 extra jajamygeon, and a spicy noodle soup with seafood. Service was very accommodating. When people said their jajamygeon was good, it was true!! It's also so worth the price!

    I was craving jjajangmyun, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk, so my friend recommended that we come try Hainan since it was in the area. We ordered the jjajangmyun (where my friend specified to the waiter to make the jjajang sauce fresh), the sweet rice tansuyuk (pork), and jjamppong. I think the fresh sauce and onions elevated the taste of the jjajangmyun. The tansuyuk was crispy, mochi-like, and airy at the same time. The sauce on the side paired perfectly, and had bits of veggies inside, so you can get a different experience with each bite. The jjamppong was good, but nothing special. The noodles for both dishes were the same but were both bouncy and chewy. I would definitely come here again to satisfy my cravings in the future.

    Not sure why my husband picked this place since it's completely out of our way but I am so glad he did! There was a special going on for jjajangmyeon for $5.99 when the usual price is 9.99. We barely looked at the menu and instead looked at the pictures of specials around and ordered those instead. We got two peach iced teas, fried mandoo, jjajangmyeon, spicy beef soup with rice and the sweet and sour fried pork. The iced teas were very nice and refreshing but a tad too sweet. It definitely has a yogurt drink in it. The mandoo was basic, nothing to rave about. jjajangmyeon came in a big bowl and enough for 2 people or one very hungry person. The black bean sauce was thick and sweet and paired with the chewy noodles perfectly. The spicy beef soup was surprising and I wish they had said it somewhere that it is seafood based and not beef based. I am not allergic to shellfish but if someone was, it would not be a pleasant experience. The star of the whole dinner was the sweet and sour pork. The pieces were big and perfectly fried without too much batter. The sauce looked very thick but it didn't taste like it and it was not overly sweet. We ordered the medium size and at first it looked like a huge portion but we ate most of it. The server was very pleasant and made approving comments on the food we ordered. The dining experience was nice, they separated the tables with these dividers and there were no tables next to another party so it felt more cozy. Decoration was bare. Parking is a hit or miss in this area. We would definitely come back again!

The wontons and dumplings were similar since they both contained shrimp and pork but I leaned towards the dumplings since they also included mushroom, bamboo, wood ear, and chives. The duck egg noodles, beef, and broth rounded out the awesomeness. Can't wait to return with others!

As you enter, the big neon sign on the back wall names Maxi as 雲吞妹, Wonton Sister. I wish she were my sister making those delicious wontons! The golf-ball sized wontons are the star of the show! They are stuffed with shrimp in a delicate noodle wrapper floating in a tasty broth. The Chinese beef stew makes a great compliment to a bowl of steamy noodles with tender slices of beef flank and beef tendons (my favorite part). Noodle dishes can also be ordered Hong Kong style on a plate with broth on the side. We also get a dish of boiled vegetables with oyster sauce to round out our meal (usually baby Chinese Broccoli or choy sum). The menu has expanded since the last time we were here with new side dishes like curry fish balls and braised shiitake mushrooms that you can get over noodles or a la carte. There are even bubble teas now! If you like, you can even get a box of fried fish skin to go. Just remember that you have to bus your own table.
