Their pizza is delicious, but they really skimp on toppings. One of the pizzas we ordered was supposed to be red sauce, meatballs, bacon, fresh mozarella. There were no meatballs at all, just a sprinkling of meat crumbles. About one spot of fresh mozarella per slice. Not much bacon either. The other pizza we ordered was to be red sauce, black olives, onions, mushrooms, red peppers, and regular cheese. Again, delicious, but not exactly piled high with toppings. At $1.50 per, these made our medium pizza cost over $20. I'll go again, but next time I'll order one of the "house" pizzas, which are mediums for $16.50, which includes their predetermined toppings. read more

I came here for lunch with a group of coworkers and I'm really glad I tried it since I had heard so much about it. We had a large group and even though they were very busy during the lunch hour, we were seated pretty quickly. I ordered a meatball sub which was just ok. I think the prices are a bit high for what you get here. Several of my coworkers ordered pizza and talked about how good it was, so if I come back, I'll make sure to get pizza instead of a sandwich. Our waitress was nice, but our glasses sat empty for decent amounts of time during the meal. Grinder's has a history for decent food. I personally enjoy their pizzas, but it has been a couple of years since my last visit so my memory may not serve as an accurate baseline for this review. The visit had me unimpressed for this location. I had a philly cheesesteak and my girlfriend had a west club. We split an order of the death wings. The wings were cold but at least tasted right. The philly cheesesteak was too much bread, not enough meat and loaded heavily with onions. Her club was good, but bland with very little garlic mayo. The price was a bit expensive given the portion size and quality of the food. Much more deserving of dishes that would normally cost $5 a piece at a food truck. The food took about 35 minutes to come out. For a simple set of sandwiches and wings that arrived cold, I would have normally asked for our food to be returned and redone but our server disappeared after the food was delivered, no refills. We left, leaving cash and a marginal tip. The ambience was extremely noisy due to an inordinate amount of kids, nothing that can be held against the establishment...but it made the painfully crooked table and off-kilter chairs noticeable and uncomfortable for the duration of the visit. The decorations were nice, but any 54th Street would have a similar setup. I'd recommend sticking to pizza and making it to go for Grinder's. Was new to the area from Chicago with the great love of my life! We were getting hunger and yelped so places to eat! This place came up and looked intriguing so we stopped! Confused by the entrance but managed to get in. Very great welcome immediately as we enter. Sat at bar and again great fast attention. Great menu of choices. In From Des Moines IA for a few days doing some work for my co. @ the Embassy Suites so trying some new places. Thought this one looked cool & the Mixon caught my eye. It was pretty good but not out of this world. I would probably try something new the next time I stop in KS. The Beer was cold & after a long day a Budweiser was just what I needed. The menu has a great selection & the place is pretty cool. I was a lone stranger with a crowd of Royals fans watching the game. I went at 7 on a Friday night and it was crazy crowded, and loud. As crowded as it was early on, by 10:30PM the place had almost cleared out. The places is very small inside and tight. There are tables outside to account for this. It's a really nice atmosphere outside. There are tables, and benches, and a few tailgating type games to play while you wait. Service...When we got there, we put our names on the list to be seated. It was a nice night out so we decided to go to the bar for drinks and wait to be seated. It was SO loud and crowded in there, I wondered how we'd be notified when our table was ready. I went back to the attendant and asked. She said, "We'll come find you; we'll call your name." Good enough. Well, after about 20 minutes I went back just to see how much time we had left. She said, "We tried to find you. We marked you as gone." No one tried to find us. We were right outside on a bench. So we had to wait more. Food...I had the hot wings. The sauce was great (Molten is hotter than standard buffalo and tastier), but the wings we a little soft and rubbery. The fries were as plain as I've ever had. But this place isn't known for wings really. Everything else I've had there at the KC Grinders (burger, tacos, pizza) has been good. Over half of the beers came in cans, and I didn't care for that. Paying $5 for Corona in a thin can was kind of a let down for some reason. All in all, it was OK. Cool outside atmosphere, decent food and service. read more

I've not found anything on the menu that I don't like. I go here for the cheesesteaks since I feel like they're the best I know of in OP. Coming from Philly you don't expect to have good cheesesteaks out here and Grinders is definitely worth the visit if you value your cheesesteaks. Aside from that, pizza is great, wings are great, burgers are great, the service here is pretty good and the atmosphere of the place just makes you feel comfortable. Will be back. read more

It's too bad that this place is missing a fantastic opportunity with the amount of land that they own and the location. The outdoor space could be phenomenal with some work put into it. Right now it is a junk yard. There are 2 Fisher Price outdoor play kitchens, a couple of rocking animals, an old stone fireplace that has a snow fence around it, and the grounds are in dire need of raking and yard work. They could have the tree canopy raised and have yard games, firepits, and seating galore in their yard area and just make it a place to hang out for a beautiful evening increasing their revenue. The pizza is decent, but the reuben is hands down one of the best around. Beer could be colder and they could have more on tap, especially a common Blue Moon, but I suffered through with a can poured into a not cold pint glass. KC people LOVE to sit outside whenever possible, so I just wish they would see the opportunity they have and take advantage of it! read more

I had a craving for cheesesteaks after watching an old rerun of Fresh Prince. AND my teenager had never had one, so off we went. The cheesesteaks at Grinders were very authentic tasting. The atmosphere is a fun one with very helpful wait staff. It's a casual atmosphere which is perfect for lunch time. There is an outdoor area which is a great option when the weather is nice. Since it's in a neighborhood area, it doesn't feel like you're inhaling exhaust fumes sitting outside either. The manager was walking around checking on people, which I thought was a good sign for quality control. The meat in my Sammie was good quality. It wasn't all fatty as I've had in some places. There are also lots of options for sides so everyone is happy. I will certainly be coming back here to fill my craving for the philly in the future! read more

Philly cheese steak was good. Lots of whiz and great bread. Rib eye was mostly tender and cut finely, however there were some pieces in several sandwiches we ordered which were grisly and tough. The atmosphere and service is great! They are known for their pizza, wings, and Philly cheesesteaks. I've been to Philly and had authentic cheesesteaks and this place was better. It comes pumped full of meat, very filling! The pizza is very size-able and also delicious! The Gouda potato casserole was average but don't let that distract you from the fact that their homemade potato chips are the highlight of the sides! I went here recently with some friends of mine, and the place couldn't have been better! Great selection of beers on tap, and their food is some of the best bar food I've ever had! We shared orders of their Big Ass Fries, topped with chili and cheese, and some of their Molten Chicken Wings; both were excellent, but I had my eyes on the prize... A full-sized South Philly Cheesesteak w/ onions, peppers, mushrooms and two kinds of cheese! Not one of us left that place hungry, but we still wanted more!
