By far and away my favorite southwest JoCo sports bar/food & drink spot. Sure, it's a bar & grille, but their kitchen churns out some really good food and specials are always creative and featured. You'll find it right across the street from 3&2 Baseball's west complex. If there is youth baseball in the nicer months, then you can bet that some of those sluggers will matriculate across the street in search of lunch or dinner with families in tow. And with good reason, because Callahan's offers something for just about every palate. I would suggest sampling their BBQ, of which the menu is not vast but what they do, they do really well. The K-7 Combo is one of my favorites, a brisket & sliced sausage sandwich with a house BBQ sauce (or even the K-10, which subs in pulled pork for the sausage). Really good entrée and pairs just right with some of their sides, like a house potato salad or smoked beans. The wing game is pretty strong here, featuring a sweet & spicy glaze called the Honey Badger. It's not too sweet and not too spicy and sits nicely atop their twice-done wings. A basket of wings (8) runs $13.50 and that's a fairly good meal without a side. The kids' menu has plenty of the usual suspects, but Callahan's also does thin crust pizza from scratch and knocks those out of the park. I'd suggest the Big 8, which is their version of a 'supreme', and that's enough for at least two people, or maybe one teenager. Local knowledge: if you just want a side, then I'd suggest their sweet potato fries. Cut in-house and super crispy, and a basket alone is a phenomenal choice. Service is always friendly and quick and check the specials on the board as you come in. There are TVs in almost every direction, because sportsball, and there is not a bad seat in the place. The patio faces west and is open in nicer weather, and the bar has plenty of seating if you just want a solo spot. Prices are totally on par with the area, and the food delivers a value that matches or outpaces the price. Easy access, friendly service, and great food! read more

We moved out to the k7 corridor about 18 months ago and finally tried this place. I've been to the Callahan's on 87th in the past but don't remember it really. We came in on chicken finger night and split a chicken finger dinner and a burndt end grilled cheese. Both were delicious!! Solid bar food. This is def a local hang out kind of place so if you aren't a regular you may feel a little out of place but everyone was friendly and the food was good. I think they do huge 3&2 business so I'm guessing summer evenings post game time might be crazy. read more

This little bar and grill is nestled off of the K-7 in a strip with one other store in the strip which is a liquor store!! I would say the best part of coming here was the burrito bites!! It is a must have!! They make a burrito fry it and cut it. It comes with sour cream, queso, and salsa!! It was worth the $9. My husband and I shared this as an starter and we were almost full so make sure you have room for your main course. Now I had the Tailgate with an egg. Next time I probably will keep the egg off but the burger was really juicy and hot. My husband had the wings chared and he really enjoyed them. If you get an order of fries they can serve 2-3 people so just be aware. Overall nice place to come eat and watch a game and be with friends. read more

Where do you start with a simple sport bar and grill... the game well they were showing the one I wanted to watch Rock Chalk but since I live in a house divided my poor husband was left to watching Mizzou on his phone. So that part was on behalf of him. Ok so bar with friends for a drink and dinner perfect decide on the drink the men with blue moon tonight and the ladies with a clue Hawaiian. Well don't want too many blue drinks they ran out of beer after on the second order and while my girlfriend had several blue Hawaiians they soon ran out of the mixers for that as well Now the food was fair typical bar burgers sandwiches and apps and the BBQ smelled good. My friends enjoyed the flavor a little more than my hubby and I but we are more foodies and well I have had better. The sandwich had a ton of flavorful smoked turkey, crispy bacon ans melty swiss cheese. There was so much turkey it was falling out of the bun! The beans were tangy and tasty. Went there late afternoon Saturday. It wasn't busy and nice that we didn't have to wait for someone to seat us, open seating. Typical bar, atmosphere, and food. We had a pretzel, burger and coleslaw, all very tasty, especially the coleslaw. Hardly find any place that does diced sweet coleslaw anymore. only complaint was the sound of the KU game, so loud, we had to raise our voices considerably to talk to one another (in a half empty bar)but that was corrected halfway through our stay. I haven't been to the place yet but I use dashdoor because of these whole corana virus thing , so anyways they food was amazing not going to lie , the wings were delicious and the pizza just great the only down fall was the fries a little soggy not alot of salt or anything just plain. We eat at Callahan's West regularly. Today, at 12:45pm, we arrived, stood at the entrance for 15 minutes - employees looked at us but no one even greeted us, let alone seat us at at table. I've been going to Callahan's West for years. My husband and I are obsessed with the burrito bites. Second in line are the charred buffalo wings--ask for some of the white BBQ sauce to go with them. The Turkey gobbler and pork tenderloin are my sandwich favorites but my husband orders BBQ almost every time. The pizza is worth the trip, too. Honestly, you really can't go wrong! read more

What sets one sports bar apart from any other? In my opinion,it is only two things. The price of their beer and the quality of the food. Callahans Western Lenexa store can give you both good beer prices and good food. My fave is their tenderloin...a mega monster of breaded pork. Hard to tell from the photos but under that slab of pig is both halves of the bun and the toppings. Screaming hot when it hit the table, I had to do a "fold over" for it to fit better on the bun, making a double decker sandwich. A large mouth (like mine) is required to devour such a beast. The burgers, and other sandwiches are also of good rating, but the pork brings me back. Have not tried the pizza, so cant comment on that. The interior is pure sports bar. Can be noisy and busy. Patio seating is available in the right weather. Take warning however, it is across the street from a large ball complex with multiple fields, can be extremely hectic during usage of these sports fields! The one thing that I have to mention that really pulls off a 5 star rating is the "take away" charge for call in-carry out orders. This was lowered on some of my crowd on previous visits. The tenderloins are legendary, but far too large for me to eat by myself, so I don't get them very often... otherwise it would be my favorite. They can get very crowded when a couple of baseball teams come in at once (they are across the street from a large sports complex) and the service occasionally suffers for it -- if you see a bunch of boys in uniforms hanging around, be prepared to wait a while for your food. We have always found the staff at Callahans to be genuine, down to earth, and friendly. The pork tenderloin sandwich is spectacular as is the fried chicken salad (complete with homemade basaltic vinaigrette). My other half loves their BBQ and will get wings to go no matter what. We started eating at Callahan's on 87th and realized that there was one much closer to our house. Unsure if the food would be as good, we decided to it a shot. We were not disappointed. My favorite is the Ruben. They pile it high with meat and grill it to perfection. The tater tots are always hot and crispy. We are not big on the desserts, but that is not why we go there. The main dishes are never a disappointment. Service is nice, but not super fast. We have learned to accept that fact. It is still worth going. I do agree that if the lot is full and if you see a lot of baseball uniforms, the wait will be Very long. My first visit to Callahans today was an OK experience. When I first got there the server was great. She immediately came over and asked me what I wanted to drink. When my friend arrives she immediately came over as well. We ordered some chips and dip for the group to share and my friend ordered two kids meals for her children. The chips and dip or mediocre as the cheese sauce was very runny. The taste was OK but you didn't get much on a chip because of the runniness. The atmosphere was very fun and quite child friendly. They had big screens on. However, after our food was brought to our table we hardly saw our server again. We waited 20 minutes to get our ticket. Overall it was a pretty good experience except for the wait. The location is awesome and if you're wanting to meet a group of people as it is right off K7. read more

This is five-star food and service with maybe a 2-3 star atmosphere... The Food: Their Buffalo Chicken Tenders may just be the best in town for bar fare. The pizza IS the best bar pizza in the Kansas CIty Area as far as I am concerned! ----A little anecdote----- I actually challenged the cook to make my buffalo wings too spicy to handle...the heat didn't stop me by any means (though my tolerance is of a "crazy" level) but the important part is that he got it hot without sacrificing the flavor! The Drinks: Mainly domestics on tap and plenty of bar top to add more, but this location is still fairly new so I will give them some time. The Atmosphere: Tables are a bit wobbly, the chairs are nothing uncomfortable (but nothing to look at either)...the space in general feels a bit "thrown together." I visited at the grand opening and expected the overall seating, lighting, and decoration to be replaced eventually. I think they have been open for a year now (maybe more, maybe less) but not much has changed. On the plus side, however, there is a ton of headroom as the ceiling seems vaulted to 20 feet. read more

Being a vegan with meat-eater family and friends... this was one of the most satisfying and accommodating places I have been in a long time! I have been here multiple times for happy hour with friends (which I also highly recommend) but this is the first time as a vegan for a dinner. Amazing. I ordered the fish tacos and subbed out the fish for sautéed mushrooms, no sauce, no cheese. WIth a side of chips/salsa and extra jalapeños. Their salsa is spicy and delicious.
