My husband Tim and I ate here tonight, Thursday is half price burger night, and if you go during happy hour, pints are half off as well. Brooke, our server, is the absolute best! She is funny, sweet, down to earth, and just a joy to be around! The Smash burger is delish! Half fry, half ring combo, Boulevard Brews on draft. The pretzels are soooo good too! The beer cheese served with the pretzels, yum! We really like dining here, the food is always good, the service is excellent, it's comfortable, casual, just wonderful! read more

Johnny's is a great place to meet a couple of friends over a couple of drinks. It has plenty of seating and you can find a quiet corner if you want or sit at the bar or find a table that is surrounded by sports TVs, my buddy and I have met there a few times midday and it was very comfortable. Our last time there we had a wonderful server named Harlie. She was filled with positive energy. I think it was the second time she served my table, but I have noticed all of the servers being quite good. I would recommend this place for a simple, good time out with friends. read more

I recently ate here after a show for a cast dinner. The servers were incredibly kind and patient which i deeply appreciate as we were a large group and i understand maybe a little difficult but the next day at our closing night show many of the people who had eaten there or even just got a drink there the previous night got food poisoning and were vomiting or feeling queasy myself included when it had hit the following day. do better. read more

My first time stopping by but have seen it many times. Everything was fantastic. I wish I could have remembered our servers name. She was above and beyond amazing. Had my drink refill on the table before it was gone. Our meal was great and no issues at all. Prices are really good, serving sizes are big and menu selection is nice. Very nice clean spacious restaurant. Easy access to restrooms and exits. Really like the layout. read more

Waitress was amazing and checked in on us many times. For a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't too busy but maybe we just got there and left before the big dinner rush. Drinks came out quickly and all tasted amazing. They have a seasonal alcoholic drink menu and the daydreamin' was very sweet and little to no taste of alcohol which I really enjoyed. Food came out quickly as well. I got the clubhouse sandwich and really enjoyed the garlic aioli. I normally take mayo off but any aioli usually amps up the sandwich. The seasoned fries were really good and not pictured are their onion rings which are super crispy. Honestly, a typical bar and grill with good service, friendly staff, games, different games on the tvs, and a good place to eat. read more

just now New Went in to watch a World Cup game. Live local. Love Shawnee. I work service industry. Owner was in didn't like the music I paid quite a bit on in the touch tunes, paid extra to skip some pretty terrible music. He made the bartender skip 3 of my songs. Bartender was Extremely unprofessional and got yelled at when I asked about it. Maybe. . . Play your own music and not have a juke box if you wanna pick your own music. Disrespectful and zero customer service. read more

TRIVIA! I love that Johnny's has added trivia on Wednesday nights. There are a lot of options for bar trivia in the area, and they all come with their pros and cons. The trivia host, Hampton, is great! My only wish is that it lasted longer. Trivia nights (so far) only last for about an hour. Coupled with great food and awesome drink prices, Wednesday nights at Johnny's is a win....even if your trivia team happens to lose. read more

I've been to Johnnys a few times already, and was never extremely impressed. The food is always fine, the service is fine. This time though, our server was so nice and helpful and I got the French Dip sandwich with fries and it was so satisfying and delicious! When you order this, they ask if you would like mayo or horseradish for it, and the server let me in on a "secret" - if you get horseradish, it's straight grated horseradish, not horseradish sauce! She ended up bringing me both horseradish and mayo so I can make my own sauce and it worked out great! My one complaint would be how dark it is in there - at least in our section. I'm only 30 years old and I could also barely read the menu LOL read more

Stopped in for dinner and it was crowded as usual. We hadn't been in a while. The waitress was nice but she was too busy to give good enough service. We both ordered pizza and my husband's was good. I ordered their gluten free crust with light on the sauce, pepperoni and extra cheese. It use to be you could get up to 4 toppings but they changed it to only cheese and each topping is .75. Anyways, my pizza came out the exact opposite of what I ordered. First, it was cold and it had tons of sauce and hardly any cheese and the pepperoni. I sent it back which my husband was half done with his by the time I got mine. The waitress apologized profusely. The remake was better thankfully but I feel like their quality has gone downhill since that is what I always order in the past since there aren't many gluten free choices. It was very loud because it was packed but we knew that going in as it usually always is loud. I typically take more photos of a restaurant but I thought I had reviewed it so I only got photos of grey first order of pizza (not the remake as I was ravenous by then!) read more

Do you like bacon!? Mountains of bacon!? If not don't get here. At our table we had two items that had bacon bits on it. They came with heaps of bacon. I could barely see my salad for all the bacon. The food was mediocre after you scrapped enough bacon off to be about to see it. The service was the same. Note: we didn't ask for extra bacon read more

Johnnys is such a comfort spot for everyone! There's regular bar food and super cute lighting. We sat outside and chilled with our drinks. I got a margarita mango flavored and it was so good, I loved it! The pepper jack bites were to die for! Service was a little slow but we got our order in with a timely manner. read more

Arrived around 245pm on a Tuesday for a late lunch. The place was not crowded. We were between a round of golf an an evening Royals game. We have eaten here before. It is a pubbery with televisions everywhere for sports viewing. Service was cheerful and prompt we were sitting at one of the high tops in the bar area. Ordered a couple of lagers which came quickly. We just wanted a regular pizza pie and ordered it that way. It took about 10 minutes and came out as a white pie or we later learned a "cheese pie". There was no sauce on the pie and when I think "regular" I expect some cheese and some sauce. Our server agreed. The young chef came out and informed us that there was sauce in the pizza - no there was not. Seeing is believing. Our server took it back and about10 minutes later we got a pie that was much closer to our expectations. They did the right thing by making another pie for us and our server was always pleasant and accommodating. We think it was either a different chef in the back or a simple mis-communication. Anyway the pie we ended up getting was not the greatest pizza we ever had either. Total was ~$42 for a couple of beers and a less than wonderful pizza pie. We say food "f", service "a", ambiance "c", value "c". Mark. read more

Love this place. It's probably the best place in Shawnee to catch a game. I wish I took more pictures of the atmosphere but they have lots of TVs and a good amount of seating. It wasn't our first time there but the steak quesadilla is my favorite food that I've had there. I've found that many places make a dry quesadilla but this was not the case here. Steak was juicy and I enjoyed the tortilla as well. Nice drink selection too. Our server was very friendly and made good recommendations. read more

Johnnys has several locations and is very kid friendly! There's lots of TV's so you can watch any sport that is playing while you eat. We had a bad experience at a different location and were given a gift card so we decided to give it another try! I am glad because this time was a lot better- maybe the location or the other location had a bad day who knows! We both ordered a "mule" because it was the special of the day($5) I got the cranberry mule and my husband got the mango mule. We both liked our drinks. They weren't exceptional, but not terrible either. We then ordered a pizza with four toppings. The pizza was delicious for bar food. It's not my favorite pizza but good enough that I would definitely get it again. It was reasonable also maybe $12. Our waitress, though I cannot remember her name, was on point and very nice ! The only thing I find funny is all of the women workers wore different crop tops. Are they not allowed To wear a full shirt? Anyways, all in all we liked this location better, food and drinks are good enough, and service was great. read more

We love going to Johnny's for a quick beer, and enjoy the happy hour appetizers on social during the week. On Tuesday nights, they do taco Tuesday and it's a great deal. Tonight we tried the pizza, half off full pizzas on Monday nights. It was a huge 18 inch loaded pizza due $10! So good! We've never had anything but great service here, at the bar and at the tables. Great patio in spring and fall. read more

Best staff on the planet! They are always friendly and remember you by name. The food is great too.

Our server, Gretchen, was amazing. I wish I could say the same for the rest of the staff. Our entire dinner was like watching an episode of degrassi. The rest of the servers were too busy flirting and horsing around to do their jobs, leaving the few responsible servers to pick up the slack. read more

The food has always been pretty good at this location. Sadly, they have long ago discontinued two of my favorite sandwiches there, the meatloaf sandwich, and the pot roast sandwich. The remaining menu seems pretty mundane, typical bar, and grill food. read more

Excellent bar food! Johnnys has great specials. We love their taco Tuesday and BOGO burgers on Thursday nights. Servers are attentive and good. It is a great value and is family friendly. There are TVs everywhere if you want to watch sports. They also have a huge variety of other foods that are good on their menu. It is a bar atmosphere and isn't quiet, but that is what we expect! Steak quesadilla with Tank 7 cheese always hits the spot! The food is here is my perfect late night pick me up. Service is consistent.

Absolutely miserably freezing. I'm not sure why every location is so freezing cold, we've almost left after being seated more times than I can count. Especially in the summer months. BRING A JACKET ALWAYS! Also, we always come for the pepper jack bites. Not always in stock. Careful what you wish for. My boyfriend likes the ranch. read more

Visited on a Monday evening. We were promptly greeted upon entering and led to our seats. It took 10 minutes for our waitress to greet us and get our ur drink order. We ordered a pizza to share for the table. Said pizza arrived, without one of the toppings visible and we asked about it, we weee told it was in there somewhere under the cheese. Waitress couldn't care less. Pepperoni was nowhere to be found. Informed waitress and got a snippy response. Last time going there. read more

Great place to watch the game, shoot some pool, play a few video games. Outside patio is amazing and the open/close garage door concept makes it inviting. Massive bar, plenty to drink: 18 beers on tap. Staff is friendly and works hard (from my experiences). Had the large "Zeus" pizza (1/2 price Monday's) excellent choices. Zeus pizza was not the greatest (flavor combinations) but plenty of other choices. Still worth a 5 star review. read more

Stopped in for late lunch on the patio at Johnny's in Shawnee today, it was just what we were looking for. The KU game was playing so they were packed. Despite that, service was great, quick, efficient, our smiling pleasant waitress got my order just right. My shrimp skewer appetizer with "all the sauces on the side" was the best dish I've ever had at a Johnnys. I definitely recommend if you're a shrimp fan. He loves the burgers here. Love that they have a patio option and welcome our 4lb Milo (who doesn't love Milo though) read more

A solid, neighborhood bar, serving great food that will please everyone. There are various locations throughout Kansas City and they're all good. We dropped in to this location because they have a great outside patio. We started with the Fried Pickles and Jalapeno Caps ($9), a generous portion of house-battered pickle chips and sliced jalapenos. And we also ordered the Espi-Nachos ($13), your choice of chicken or beef, along with tortilla chips topped with espinaca cheese sauce, pico de gallo, black beans, black olives, queso fresco, and served with either classic salsa or salsa verde. Both were great and a definite crowd-pleaser when you have hungry people that need something fast. I ordered the Royal Bleu Burger ($14), a burger with Wilson sauce, bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, crispy onions, and garlic aioli. It was a glorious and delicious mess--you won't be able to put it down once you start in on it. The kids ordered the '78 Classic Cheeseburger ($11), the burger that made them famous, back when they started grilling these in Lawrence in 1978; a burger, with American cheese, in a bun, "Nuff said!" and a Buffalo and Bleu Wrap ($12), buffalo chicken strips (grilled or crispy), bacon, shredded lettuce, tomato, and Johnny's bleu cheese dressing in a jalapeno cheddar tortilla. All their burgers, sandwiches, and wraps are served with a large selection of sides: seasoned fries, fry/ring combo, cottage cheese, steamed broccoli, pub chips, fries, brown rice, or coleslaw. Needless to say, the kids loved it and it was way too much food for us. Overall, when you want to go get beers and bar-food, then this is place for all the classics. They are consistent and the servers are always on the nose with whatever you need. read more

We've been coming to this Johnny's since it was across the street at the old location and love it! I'm so glad that they've expanded because while it was fun in my 20s, I now kids and it's a little more family friendly nowadays. The patio is BOMB. We love entire space inside and out. We've had a little bit of everything on their menu at this point. Their apps, burgers, sandwiches, salads, wraps, WINGS (my husband's fave) have never disappointed. I'm a vegetarian these days and they even have some options in there that are vegetarian friendly. The service there is always on point. Food was good, service was fine. HOWEVER, it was so loud we could not hear anyone speaking. We had to yell to converse and still missed most of what was being said - this was at a 4 top (we were not spread out). We weren't the only table of people who were yelling. I'm out. I don't care if Johnny's Tavern wants to get people excited for a game; it is just too loud. We asked if there was anyway to take it down a notch, and the answer was a solid 'no'. If guests cannot hear one another, it's useless to go out with people to this place. Sorry, Johnny's - Atmosphere is a thing, and you've made it unwelcoming. read more

So we eat here all the time. But come on Johnny's. When your bun is bigger than your chicken the chicken better be amazing. Well..... I would say the McDonalds fish sandwich tastes more like a chicken sandwich. That chicken was dry, stringy, and plain crap. We ate at Tanners last night and their chicken sandwich was way better. This was a huge disappointment. Your double dipped fries were amazing. My wife's firecracker shrimp tacos were great but my chicken sandwich and our daughters boyfriend's chicken sandwich was horrible. You need to fix this. I would bet my next paycheck that the new McDonalds chicken sandwich would hands down blow this terrible excuse for a chicken sandwich out of the water. read more

Honestly, I have been to 1 or 2 Johnny's Taverns and they're good but nothing impressive. HOWEVER. This Johnny's, on Shawnee Mission PKWY, is awesome. I showed up at 10:50 to start Saturday Fun Day. They don't open till 11 but I'm sure there were already people inside. Anyway, my boyfriend and I walked in, took a seat at the bar and were immediately helped by the bartender. She was so great! Very attentive and friendly. The great thing about this Johnny's is the outdoor patio.... it is Patio Season now and I will be going back to hang on this patio! They have one downstairs and then stairs that lead to a smaller upstairs patio. Upstairs on the patio they have fake grass, corn hole, giant jenga and one other game. I was THRILLED. The weather was perfect. Downstairs, inside at the bar, you are still able to enjoy the beautiful weather because they have garage door type windows that slide up and open to the outside. On to the food: I always get the '78 Classic Burger. I get it with cheese only and french fries. You guys... the hamburger buns are probably my fav part. They are so soft and tasty. The real show stopper was my boyfriends lunch. He got the Dodge City burger with a fried chicken patty instead of hamburger. It came with an onion ring, cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce. The fried chicken was so good!!! So were the onion rings. Wow. Can't wait to go back. read more
