Barrel-Aged Espresso Old-Fashioned.
Tom V.

Pretty good spot for a drink or a happy hour noshable. You have plenty of options in downtown Old Shawnee, but District Pour House probably has the most robust menu of eats among your choices. We dropped in for a drink and (unfortunately) there was a gathering/party going on at the same time, so it was super loud and with the high ceilings, somewhat noise-overwhelming. But that's not on District, and the service was friendly and attentive, always in a nearby orbit if we needed anything. This visit had me sampling a seasonal cocktail, an espresso old-fashioned, which had a coffee pungency with bourbon sweetness. Excellent execution by our bartender! We also snacked on a fresh order of Parmesan truffle fries, crispy and scorchingly hot, with a fine garlic aioli nestled alongside. Absolute winner of a shareable! Easy place to get into, good strong menu, and friendly service. I've had District's offerings from their days on Wornall and the vibe has carried over to Shawnee. Definitely worth the look if you're in the mood for a solid drink and food option.

Great experience. Stopped in for lunch with some friends. Waitress was super friendly and patient with all of our orders and questions. Place has a cozy vibe to it that somehow wasn't noisy even though they were busy. Our drinks remained full. My salad was delicious with tons of fresh flavors. I would definitely dine here again.

We actually really enjoyed our evening out here! I felt like they had the perfect amount of options on the menu. Food came out how and fresh as we ordered it. The rissoto balls for an appetizer were incredible - and already craving them again. The hot honey chicken sandwich was hot, fresh and crispy. We ordered the truffle fries with it - and over all - I enjoyed all of it. Cool place and atmosphere. Service was quick and responsive.

Definitely hit a local flavor to Shawnee! We had their Seafood dip- cheddar cheese, crab and lobster served with baguettes and chips. We had to ask for more fresh chops which didn't disappoint with the pairing of the dip! The Chicken sandwich had good flavor but with the chile infused honey it would tasted to well. Good and crispy just need more flavor to it.. I didn't get the chipotle aioli taste at all.

My husband and I stopped in today to get try out a cocktail and were very pleased! The decor was lovely with all the Christmas decorations that were tasteful and the ambiance was relaxing and enjoyable. We went about 5 pm and were seated immediately. We didn't have any food because we just ate dinner but wanted a cocktail. They have wonderfully tasteful infused liquors and my husband's was a berry basil type of martini and mine was an apricot type of cocktail (cannot remember the names! Oops!) But they were delicious! The waitress was great and we will definitely go back to try their other cocktails or food choices.

Yes, the answer to your question is yes! The place hasn't skipped the beat from their move from Waldo. My family enjoyed several cocktails, I recommend the pickle martini. My favorite entrée after sampling everyone's was the meatloaf, but I did like my WFC burger & tots! The biggest compliment I can give is our server. She had nicknames for all of us and we called her "Addy" For her adidas apparel. She provided our group a memorable experience with her vibe, great service and sense of humor.

Such a fun atmosphere. Open seating, cool bar area and a very unique private party room with a real bank vault door. Fast & friendly service. Food Mac & Cheese with bacon. Exactly what I needed for a cold day. Cheesy, warm and comforting. Paired with the flourless chocolate cake. One of the best cakes I have had in sometime. Plenty of menu options, including hand crafted cocktails using in house infused spirits.

I love how more and more amazing restaurants are opening up in Shawnee and this is not slacker. After an extensive revamp of the building that was, for lack of a better term, underused. Their food is a welcome change to the area. Not knocking on anything nearby, but an ACTUAL restaurant is welcomed!!! Now for the drink, you gotta give their special old fashions are tasty!

I went here last week with my parents. I grew up in Shawnee so it's fun to see so much growth downtown in the last few years. I've been watching this space for a while, especially when I enjoyed District Pour House when it was in Waldo. I'll start by apologizing for not remembering all the dish names. They don't have any pics of the menu or a website yet, so I can't remember the exact names a week later. We started with the risotto balls/arancini. The sauce was SOOOO good - like a romesco aioli. It was perfectly fried and I just loved them. High marks for the app! For the meal, I got the meatloaf, my dad got the fried chicken sandwich, and my mom got a chicken salad (I feel like it was named the sonora or sonoma.. something like that). I thought the meatloaf was tasty but the meal was room temperature, at best, and I thought the mashed potatoes could have used some salt. My dad liked his chicken sandwich well enough, but he wasn't particularly effusive (but that's him). My mom really enjoyed her salad. We ended up getting the lemon dessert. It was good but my parents thought it wasn't made in-house. ::shrug:: It's a cute space though I'm a little dubious about the bench booth that backs up directly to tables. I could see someone's long hair landing in someone's food. And sitting closer to strangers than to my dinner companions is kind of odd. More of a partition would be a good idea. I am happy that there is now a full-service dinner spot in downtown Shawnee. It will likely make a killing with all those bars and no other higher end options on the block, right now. I would certainly recommend this spot, but there is room for improvement.

This restaurant is in a GREAT location in downtown Shawnee. My wife and I loved them when we first visited at their old location and have been excited that they're much closer to us now. With the weather as nice as it is now, they have the space open to the outdoors so you have a nice view during your experience. Our server couldn't have been nicer and the service was good. We started with the seafood dip. The consistency was a little more like a chowder than a dip but the flavor was DELICIOUS. We also had some truffle fries that are a must. I had the duck risotto. I enjoyed the flavor of the balsamic with it, but it was missing that wow factor. I commend them for their ambitious menu that you won't find just anywhere and I think they're finding their footing in the new location. It's a good time!

Dropped in on a Wednesday around 7:15pm. Not busy at all. We were seated way in the back . Our server Izzy was very pleasant and attentive. We placed our orders and the food came out rather quickly. The ham sandwich was very good however the KC Cheesesteak was only mediocre. The meat was very overcooked ( crispy) , very few mushrooms and onions and the white cheddar cheese was flavorless. I requested extra crispy tots and they delivered.

Worst place ever. Very few customers, no one at the door. Took forever to be seated. Limited food choices. Never going back.

To have this exquisite sanctuary within mere walking distance of our front door feels like discovering a secret coordinate on an old traveler's map. It is a place that exerts an irresistible pull, anchoring itself as the absolute perfect destination for an intimate, romantic date night or a lively, laughter-filled evening meeting up with friends. There is a brilliant, transportive alchemy at work here, transforming a casual stroll through our neighborhood into a deliberate departure from the ordinary, where the modern world gently recedes into the background. The atmosphere is utterly on point, evoking the hauntingly beautiful, slow-burning elegance of a French colonial-era brasserie tucked away in the humid heart of Southeast Asia. There is a distinct, poetic nod to the writing of Joseph Conrad within these walls--a deliberate, masterful play of light and shadow that makes the space feel alive with a quiet, brooding mystery. It feels as though you have stepped off a river steamer and into a candlelit haven of rich textures, whirring fans, and lush greenery, where the air is thick with romance and the intoxicating charm of another era. Whether you are seated inside amidst the intimate, atmospheric glow or outside on the terrace watching the twilight deepen like the slow approach of a great, untamed evening sky, the setting holds you completely spellbound. The culinary journey matches this evocative allure step for step, navigating the menu with the flawless precision of an experienced captain. Having explored nearly every offering they have to craft, I can say with absolute certainty that the kitchen never misses its mark. Each dish arrives as a beautiful revelation, a sharp contrast of vibrant flavors and impeccable execution that satisfies something primal and deep within the palate. Penny's doesn't just serve a meal; they curate an experience that lingers in the memory long after the final plates are cleared. It is a rare, magnificent gem that brings a profound touch of old-world, literary magic right to the heart of Prairie Village, and we find ourselves endlessly drawn back to its extraordinary shores.

But when I pay the kind of prices they charge at Silo, I need to be wowed and I just haven't been the two times we've dined here--hence, only 4 stars. We hit the club for brunch with a group, and while the ambiance was pure "Country Club Chic," the execution was a bit more "Sunday Morning Sand Trap." The Liquid Courage I started off my round with two drinks. the Bloody Mary. It was fine--tasty enough, but it certainly didn't change my life or inspire any poetry. However, things got interesting with their Tequila/Cold Brew/Liquor 43 concoction. Topped with an egg foam cap, it was actually pretty solid. A bit of a gamble, but sometimes you have to roll the dice when the menu is trying that hard. The Culinary "Hit and Miss" Then came the food, or as I like to call it: The Great Consistency Crisis. The Steak: I asked for medium-rare; I received medium-well with a "char" that felt more like a personal vendetta against the cow. The Potatoes: Apparently, potato portions are determined by a lottery system. I received about half the amount of the person next to me. Maybe I didn't look hungry enough? The Eggs: My over-easy eggs had crispy, hard edges and arrived at a temperature I'd describe as "lukewarm at best." We also had to hunt down salt and pepper like we were on a scavenger hunt. Honestly, I probably should have just hit the buffet and cut out the middleman. The Service Our server was perfectly nice, but he appeared to be roughly twelve years old. Since he wasn't legally old enough to understand the complexity of a craft cocktail, he couldn't give us any info on the drink menu. We just had to "go with our gut"--which is a dangerous game when tequila and cold brew are involved. The Verdict I'm not saying I won't be back, but consider this a fair warning: if Round 2 involves another charred steak and a side of "room temperature" eggs, I'll be sending it back for a rerun faster than a shanked drive into the woods. 3/5 Stars -- Great for people-watching, questionable for potato-equity.

I usually come here for dim sum, and it is upsetting for me to say that my husband and I should've chose somewhere else to eat for dinner. For dinner, we ordered fried rice and chow fun. Those two main entrées were okay. You can't really mess up those two fillers at an Asian restaurant. We ordered scallion pancakes- they came out soggy and soft. Not even crispy like how they usually are. The flavor wasn't there either. If I wanted microwaved scallion pancakes, then I would've bought them from the store and made them myself. My husband ordered the short ribs- they were bland and tough like rubber. It had a funky taste to it that he couldn't describe and he had to force himself to swallow it because he didn't want food to go to waste. I ordered the chicken feet- this is one of dim sum's signature dishes and I am so upset I didn't even get to enjoy one of the dishes I always order. It was dry and the flavor wasn't there. The service was fantastic. They checked in on us and made sure our water was filled. The timing of the food coming in and out was fine. The ambiance was inviting. There was a sense of urgency and I appreciated that.
