What I received at Hurricane Allie's 0/10
Robert P.

I used to come here quite frequently for food and drinks. The last time I came here in a Saturday night I ordered 2 draft beers and Reuben sandwich. Beers were barely cold, service was terrible and the Reuben had 2 slices of meat on it. Probably won't be coming back if this is the kind of slop they are serving here. Step it up!

This is one philly we got.

OK... So we eat at Allie's at least once a month (for years). They WERE one of the best places in KC to get a Philly Steak sandwich until we came to eat SAT 5/17. The male short order cook made an abomination for our to-go order. Got home and it was horrendous looking slices of burnt, tasteless steak with hardly any peppers/onions. And the "cheese" was something that looked like a product of a reproductive organ. Fed it all to feral cats outside. And this was the same night that the internet/phone provider had it's network vandalized... so we couldn't call them to voice our displeasure. So if you or we walk in and there is a man cooking... just might need to turn around and walk out.

Thursday karaoke!

I love this place for karaoke!!! Thursday's and Fridays are the nights to go! KJ Chad on Thursday is so fun and everyone seems to know him! Tracy is so great, we always have drinks in our hand! She works so hard Love Hurricane Allies!!

I'm so glad Allie's fought to keep her place open until midnight during COVID! As a near-regular for their Friday night karaoke, it's nice to know a place to hang out these days! A purchase is necessary to sing karaoke, but - as the menu shows - it's not a big sacrifice. I put newest menu & daily specials on for your review. Now - the person who MAKES Allie's run smooth as silk, even when busy (Covid busy, you know), is TRACY! It was great to have ALEX back in the kitchen, but I've seen TWO servers with a cook not keep up like Tracy & Alex - all while keeping their cool & sense of humor. Without them, especially Tracy - I don't know how they'd do it. All the KJs are great - Jordan, Devin, Craig - the new guy (LOL) & you can go get your sing on Thursday-Saturday- just sign in after me!

Love this place...Been open since Sept 2010...Been told it was the location of the old "cheifs" bar (not sure about that). It's a small litter place with great food and friendly people. Has different specials everynight. Sunday they have a free poker league, that starts at 4, come join it's lots of fun!!! The food is great..ask for the cheesy corn, it's sweet with a bit of kick to it, all Allie would tell me is that it has jalopeno's in it....it sure is yummy. So if you looking for a clean bar this is diffently the place to try out.

The southwest burger was excellent! So was the service for that matter. This was my second time here, and both were good experiences!

As a native Alabamian, I'm always up for some southern cooking. I was planning on this being as…read moresweet as Van promised! We really enjoyed our Saturday afternoon meal! It's a lovely restaurant. It seems a bit out of the way with mostly corporate buildings around. The restaurant has a nice modern aesthetic. I like the purple hyacinths hanging from the ceiling in one area. It was very steady for an off time in the afternoon. First, our server Olivia was amazing! Very attentive and we were extra needy this day so I really appreciate her patience. We even dropped food on the floor. Oops! She was so nice about it and cleaned it up immediately. We had customizations and extra requests. No problem for her! She went above and beyond. I hope she sees this because she was such a joy! The food was also very good. We started with the biscuits and one peach compote and one blueberry. Both were yummy. They were traditional drop biscuits and I love a good biscuit! We also had an order of fried green tomatoes on goat cheese grits. You get 4 very large slices. I could only eat one. The grits were yummy but there were not enough of them in relation to the friend green tomatoes. They were also encased by a sauce. I'm guessing a remoulade. I don't really care for remoulade sauce so I'd have removed it had I known it came with the dish. It really overpowered the goat cheese taste in the grits. The tomatoes were very al dente and I would have preferred them cooked a bit more. The dish was still good but my least favorite and I would normally love anything with those ingredients and fried green tomatoes are a favorite so the remoulade (or whatever it was) sauce was a real problem for me. I would definitely get them again without the sauce because they are great otherwise. But that sauce just overpowers every other flavor! I got the chicken tender dinner and others in my party got the bone in fried chicken. Everyone liked their chicken. The tenders were a big size. 4 of them but I hit 2 meals out of them. Everyone liked the Parmesan rosemary potatoes. I really liked the bacon green beans. The only side we weren't impressed with was the Mac and cheese unfortunately. The cheese was not good. We got coffees and a chai. All of them were very good. A bit pricey for the amount you get though. Even with the smaller complaints, I'd still give th a 5 because of the outstanding service and the dishes were overall very good and large portions. We will definitely return and I hope to try out a breakfast item next visit!

We had some time to kill after dropping off our cat at the vet, so we thought we'd pop into Shake…read moreShack and grab lunch while we waited. The store wasn't busy at all, but was clean and pleasant enough. We started placing our order at the kiosk (no human order takers here, as far as I could tell) and, after ordering 2 burgers, 2 Shakes, and a side of of onion rings, plus a bottle of water, AND being solicited for a tip by the kiosk (who exactly is getting a tip here? The kiosk?), our total was $52. FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS. for 2 burgers, shakes, onion rings and water. These had better be the best damn burgers and onion rings I've ever had in my life at that price point. Here's the thing...the burgers were good. Just...good. Not outstanding, mind-blowing....just good. The shakes? Well, if you're going to make that the namesake of your business model, your shakes should be big and they should be amazing...but these were just middle-of-the-road, very very ordinary chocolate shakes. The onion rings were pretty good...a total of 6 onion rings, for $4.50. SIIX. Look, the food was fine, the service was fine, but the prices, especially in today's economy, were just over the top. If you don't mind blowing over $50 bucks for what amounts to slightly elevated fast food, then Shake Shack is probably ok for you....for me, it's just not worth the prices they charge. We enjoyed our first visit, but are unlikely to return as we didn't get what I'd consider a good value for our money. Had the total been $30, it probably would have gotten a higher rating and better review.

It's Shake Shack, so if you know the brand, then you know what you're likely to expect. You're…read moregoing to get a pretty good burger, maybe messier than other places, but it's going to be full of flavor and topped how you want it. But the brand that expanded westward so quickly doesn't seem to maintain its same zing, at least not at this location. This is a smaller location, clearly designed for more of a pick-up/delivery service operation, and the service definitely represents that. All of the ordering is done via kiosk, which is fine, but it embodies the impersonal nature of casual dining these days. The robotic nature of self-service seems to only lend to the blasé nature of the people that are working. They aren't rude by any means; they're just seemingly disinterested in actual service. Order, find a table, wait a few, and your food is brought to you. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's still a really good burger and there are lots of options. Shake Shack even gives you options for a mushroom burger, where the patty is replaced by a portobello mushroom. Maybe my burger wasn't perfect this time, and the "Parmesan Garlic Fries" were just fries dusted with powdered parmesan, so this visit wasn't exactly knocking my socks off. It was more a representation of the service than the brand. So if you're getting it to go, then you're probably in good shape. If you're getting it to stay put, then don't expect much.
